I'm sitting here working away on various unrelated projects and watching patch after patch after patch flow in from Timo to fix all sorts of problems people are reporting. A coding madman on fire. [Dovecot] Some question about "auth default", "auth default_with_listener" and others

Hello, Trying to set in dovecot.conf more than one auth section found that imap and pop3 auth process use bose of them. Loooks like thay do in round-robin way or maybe another way. Example of config: auth default { mechanisms = plain passdb sql { args = /usr/local/etc/dovecot-mysql.conf } userdb prefetch { } user = root socket listen { master { path = /var/run/dovecot/auth-master mode = 0600 user = dovecot group = dovecot } } } auth smtp_auth { mechanisms = login plain passdb sql { args = /usr/local/etc/smtp_auth.conf } userdb prefetch { } socket listen { client { user = mailnull # User running Dovecot LDA group = mail # Or alternatively mode 0660 + LDA user in this group path = /var/run/auth-smtp-plain mode = 0660 } } } Main problem - dovecot-mysql.conf and smtp_auth.conf have doferent sql querys inside, and if user try to auth via pop3 service but thru the "auth smtp_auth", than it's failed in any way. Quetion - Is exist any way to limit default doecot auth process to use just "auth default" for authintification ? maybe some options like "services= POP3 IMAP" inside? Or maybe there is anather way to do this ?

To say nothing of having built the whole edifice with the integrity, simplicity and elegance, that these changes are possible. I've long felt that doing programming can give one an awed appreciation for Creation. [Dovecot] quota warning

Hi, As suggested by Timo, I have tried to implement some warning when the user gets close to his quota limit. The patch is attached. It is configured in the plugin section of the configuration file: quota_warning = 80:0:/usr/local/bin/quota_warning.sh With this one, /usr/local/bin/quota_warning.sh is executed each time a mail brings the total size from below 80% to 80% or above. The second number serves as a limit for the count. The /usr/local/bin/quota_warning.sh script builds the warning message and delivers it with cat << EOF | /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver -c /etc/dovecot-nowarning.conf where /etc/dovecot-nowarning.conf is the same as my normal configuration file, except that it lacks the quota warning option (that is required in a situation where the warning message is large enough to bring over the 80% limit, to avoid a warning loop). [Dovecot] user_global_uid - tricky to set

Hola! Dovecot should serve virtual mail users. So I've set user_global_uid and user_global_gid in dovecot_ldap.conf to vmail/vmail. Also I've commented auth the user_attrs field. Still Dovecot tries to switch to the uid that is defined in the LDAP entry. It took me some time to figure out, that the only way to prevent this is to set user_attrs = foo=uid,bar=gid or something like this, so Dovecot doesn't have a chance to find the uid/gid. Still it will perform some LDAP lookups. In my oppinion, Dovecot shouldn't try to get the uid/gid from LDAP if the user_attrs field is undefined. I'm using Dovecot 1.0rc24 on Debian sid. Regards, A.

Hi, I just tried the below with the current version 1.0 RC15 and I still got the Problem: telnet gives me the following output: -----8<-----8<-----8<-----SNIP-----8<-----8<-----8<----- +OK dovecot ready.u-ERR invalid command u s-ERR invalid command s e-ERR invalid command e r-ERR invalid command r -ERR invalid command u-ERR invalid command u s-ERR invalid command s e-ERR invalid command e r-ERR invalid command r _-ERR invalid command _ 1-ERR invalid command 1 -ERR invalid command -----8<-----8<-----8<-----SNIP-----8<-----8<-----8<----- The above output results from the following entry: user user_1[ENTER] So now I know that this is no version issue. Can you tell me something on how I can find the solution for this problem? I don't think its a firewall issue, I disabled my Desktop Firewall. On the server I use shorewall, but of course, port 110 is open and it works disabling AntiVir on the client side. The error also occurs when I disable the Server Firewall as well. The error is reproducible on several PCs (I tried 3 PCs). Have you got any hint? Without solving the problem, I have to switch the pop3 server to another one, because this problem is really a crucial one.The only problem is: I loke dovecot. :) Thanks in advance! When I configure my dovecot server to do just plain pop3 I can telnet from a windows box without any flaw, but as soon as the client uses some pop3 proxy (for example outlook uses avira antivir Mail-AntiVirus Protection), queries to that server fail. A log line looks like this: pop3-login: Dec 05 22:53:24 Info: Disconnected [::ffff:84.165.54.42] Moreover with the proxy activated, a telnet to port 110 (pop3) is not working properly, the cursor stays right behind "+OK dovecot ready." and as soon as I enter a character, the server rejects this character as an unknown command (Without pressing ENTER). As soon as I turn off the Antivir-Proxy the telnet to port 110 runs flawlessly and I can login. So I'd like to know is there anything I can do with this version or is it worth trying the newest version? Is this a known issue? [Dovecot] 1.0rc25: double INBOX folder (weird)

Let me start off by saying the initial cause was *not* a Dovecot bug. :) If you have the default namespace "INBOX." (Courier emulation mode from the Wiki) and an actual folder in your ~/Maildir/ with INBOX in the name (~/Maildir/.INBOX.Miami), then Dovecot presents them both to the client as the real Inbox in Thunderbird: Account Inbox (3) Drafts Sent INBOX (3) ...where (3) is me representing a new email account; if you click on either INBOX folder (parent or child) they show the same contents of the single Inbox. It was really confusing until I figured out the Maildir was messed up on the backend. Sometime back in 2004 the Courier-IMAP server let one of my (dovecot) testers create a folder called .INBOX.Miami; until the 1.0rc25 upgrade we never even knew it was there - it has been invisible this whole time. I can only assume that a bug in Courier allowed that folder to be created in the first place, I'm not bothering to track it down. Once I upgraded to 1.0rc25 this morning all the sudden there it was -- obviously not Dovecot's fault for putting it there and it was easy enough to fix by hand, but I thought I'd report it in case it exposed some logic gap in the code.
