Hello all, I am new to dovecot and have had a good experience so far. I'm using fetchmail - exim - dovecot - my email clients (mac os mail and thunderbird so far). I'm also using Ubuntu Server i.e. debian. I didn't like the inflexibility of mbox so I did a tweak to exim to deliver mail to a Maildir folder in my home directory on the server. I restarted Dovecot and it found it! Very nice but mysterious. I don't remember if I did anything to the dovecot.conf file. My clients balk at the ssl certificate that was created at install time. I see a little bit of documentation on SSL. I'll struggle with it. I'm going to look at more client setups like evolution and a webmail client. Can anyone recommend a good ajax-driven webmail client? Dovecot is good software. I'm happy I found it.

[Dovecot] Dovecot using authsasld

Hi, Trying to simplify the postfix/dovecot/saslauthd setup with less than 10 users, I was looking for some way to NOT duplicate the username/password setup. Currently I need to use a seperate file for dovecot as I do for saslauthd. (One is a simple shadow-alike file, the other the sasldb) I know that postfix 2.3 can use dovecot directly for sasl authentication, and that would be a neat solution, but we're stuck with postfix 2.2. I was wondering if anyone ever succeeded in making dovecot use saslauthd for authentication so that saslauthd becomes the authoritative source for password authentication for virtual users. (both for smtp auth as pop3/imap) My other idea to simplify was using something like pam_unix, but modified to use a seperate file (not /etc/shadow) and use pam in both dovecot and saslauthd. But I can't find something like that, pam_unix is fixed, and pam_userdb is something I'd like to avoid. Any ideas ? [Dovecot] put procmail between postfix and dovecot

Hello, a couple of months ago, also thanks to help from this list, I set up postfix and dovecot for virtual domains on a Centos 4 remote server. I have postfix set up to deliver all email for marco(a)domain1.net to /var/mail/vhosts/marco_domain1.net/ Everything is fine, as far as postfix is concerned: all email to marco(a)domain1.net goes in that mailbox, dovecot sees it, etc... Now I need to add sorting all incoming email in subfolders: mail from SOME_LIST to marco_domain1.net/SOMELIST/ (lots of other rules for custom folders) all else to main inbox I have to do all this sorting with procmail for two reasons: - I want to have as little sw as possible on that server, and update it semi-automatically, if possible only from the official repositories: procmail has these characteristics - I want to reuse as is, with the smallest possible amount of translation, filtering, etc, the very long and complicated procmailrc files I have built over the years on several servers. My question is how do I have to modify (with a perl or similar script) the procmail rules so that they sort messages in maildir folders which: - are fully compatible with dovecot (and Squirrelmail) - (very useful, but not mandatory) can be viewed in categories and subcategories from Squirrelmail: personal/ friends/ family/ mailing_lists/ postfix/ dovecot/ .... work/ - *all* the messages, no matter how they were sorted on the server, can still be downloaded with fetchmail from home Note that I am not asking anybody to write the script for me (if you want to share a ready one, of course, I'll be glad). I just need to know what is the exact syntax/ folder naming conventions I have to follow to make all I wrote above happen. [Dovecot] Locally accessing IMAP folders from Windows

Hi all, I've just configured Dovecot as my IMAP server in my Ubuntu machine. Everything works fine: I can access my IMAP folders remotely, I have also installed Squirrel webmail to access it thru the web... Although I'm most of the time working with Ubuntu, sometimes I boot my machine with Windows XP. However, since the server is not running then (because I'm not running Ubuntu), the only thing I can do is read the files directly. Is there any client able to display the messages directly from the files and folders stored in Maildir? I am configuring dovecot 1.0rc7 to authenticate users (system users) in /etc/passwd. [Dovecot] ldap quota limitation (one more time)

hi there i have a such problem: in dovecot.conf ... protocol imap { listen = *:143 ssl_listen = *:993 mail_plugins = quota imap_quota } ... quota = dirsize:storage=10240 ... in dovecot-ldap.conf: ... user_attrs = uid,,,uid,uidNumber,gidNumber,boxQuota=quota=dirsize:storage ... when an user try to answer out from overquoted box he got the message "overquota blahblahblah", BUT the message still goes... it seems that the imap_quota worked (report about the overquota) but plugin quota dont work. in dovecot logs : ...
