[Dovecot] Something other than dotlock for uidlist locking?

If I read the code correctly, only dotlocks are supported for locking of dovecot-uidlist. And I don't see any settings in the config file for it. As it turns out, dotlocks are very slow on my system, due to their implementation via hardlinks. Would it be possible to support other locking mechanisms for locking of the uidlist file? -jdb

[Dovecot] Newbie Questration

Actually, it is a frustration: The client does not work, have tried Opera mail and Outlook, to receive mail. the client can send, but not receive. I know the mail is sitting in the user account Maildir ready to be picked up. Dovecot "compiles" fine. What am I doing wrong? Someone please help me, I know it is something simple. I have racked the net trying to find a solution, but no 2 mail setups are the same. My setup is the simplest I can make it. I have Postfix and Dovecot installed on Linux. All recent versions. Plain text authentication off shadow passwords and login user accounts. Mail is configured as Maildir, IMAP. As you can see below, I have turned logs on and there is nothing in them that shows an error. I am on a real static IP behind a firewall. I have opened the SMTP and IMAP ports. BTW, Postfix can send and receive local and outside. IMAP does not work to/fro outside or locally. I have also logged into Dovecot like so: telnet localhost imap 1 login test testing 2 select INBOX It lets me login and I have tried it with root, which it rejects and with another account which works. It selects the INBOX and I hit the return key multiple times to exit because I don't know what else to type. So, it looks like it is authenticating. Postfix is working fine, it can send and receive mail both locally and the outside world. It puts the messages in the Maildir directories as it is supposed to. Hello, Is it possible to use dovecot version 1.0.rc6 to authenticate users against Active Directory on a Windows 2000, without PAM, Kerberos or SAMBA. Thanks,

Hi to all. I upgraded my dovecot from rc5 to rc6. Prior to upgrading, it was working seamlessly. But now I couldn't start dovecot. Here's what the log says: Aug 10 10:39:17 proxy dovecot: Dovecot v1.0.rc6 starting up Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: Login process died too early - shutting down Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: child 29033 (login) killed with signal 11 Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: child 29034 (login) killed with signal 11 Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: child 29035 (login) killed with signal 11 Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: child 29036 (login) killed with signal 11 Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: child 29037 (login) killed with signal 11 Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: child 29038 (login) killed with signal 11 I tinkered with the login_* configuration options but to no avail. The only configuration option that I removed is the login_max_logging_users, which is now deprecated in the new version. [Dovecot] IMAP/POP3 proxying and capability

Hi, I setup a rather large POP3/IMAP configuration and want to use dovecot proxying feature. I have noted that the capability announce when connecting via the proxies are not the same before you are authenticated and after. Before you are authenticated the proxy announce is own capability and after it announce the final server capability. The problem is that some (most ? all ?) mail client ask for capability before authenticate to the server. So if the proxy capability are not the same as the final server capability the client gets wrong information. I use the QUOTA extension and it doesn't make sens to activate the quota feature on the proxy. Any other suggestion ? Perdition can hardcode the capability string the his configuration file. [Dovecot] SSL hangs? Try this

Since apparently 1.0 RC5 didn't fix the SSL hangs for everyone, could you try if replacing src/login-common/ssl-proxy-openssl.c with this helps: http://dovecot.org/tmp/ssl-proxy-openssl.c It's basically the old proxying but with some new changes, plus hopefully also fixing the original rarely occurring hang which my rewrite was intended to fix.

[Dovecot] When auth_process_size is reached

What does Dovecot do when dovecot-auth reaches the max size defined by auth_process_size? Does it just prevent it from growing further, or does it cause any problems? Thanks, Bill
