I would like to have the ability to execute a command on a folder based on a user doing something like copying a message to that folder. This could be accomplished with a config file directive. For example, this would be EXTREMEMLY useful as a spam learning hook. Take a scenario where each user has their own spamassassin bayes database, and you want to give the users the ability to train their own database based on what they think is SPAM. It would be nice to give all the users a folder called Spam, and tell them to just copy/move mail into that folder, and spamassassin will automatically learn about it. If we had a configuration hook where you could execute on a copy/move, then I could tell Dovecot whenever a user puts a message into the Spam folder, execute 'sa-learn --spam --file %s' on that message. Sure we could just do an external script in a cron job to do it every hour or something, which I'll probably do in the mean time, but often users will just delete messsages after they copy into it. Doing it through IMAP means spamassassin will learn about it immediately. How cool would that be? It seems like an easy hook to implement. I would like to patch it myself for my own use, but I'm not very proficient in C. I saw someone on the net patched Courier to do the same thing so I know I'm not alone in wanting this. Anyone know how I could patch it? Can we add that to the feature request list? ~Adam

I know you say the syntax is the same for other tools but I don't know it for them yet either. :-) Guessing at the syntax for the source, it looks like the first thing is the format of the source (mbox:) followed by a directory containing mbox format files. The INBOX portion specifies the location of the mbox that the MDA puts incoming messages into. I can see the variables defined in doc/variables.txt, got that already. Is it intended to run both directions? That is, if I swap the last two args is will it convert maildirs into mboxes? [Dovecot] auto move of purged mail to trash

I am moving a courier installation over to Dovecot and I am wondering if there is a way to set Dovecot to automatically move purged items to trash (under IMAP). Additionally, is there a way to automatically delete old items from a Trash folder? -David

My mistake, good point. I thought that creating the indexes would take a long time, but after a couple of tests, I found that Dovecot is so fast that it beats UW IMAP even while creating the indexes and after that, it is just fast. I migrated from UW IMAP/Qpopper to Dovecot using: # indexes on /var/indexes is faster: local, not NFS mouted default_mail_env = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u:INDEX=/var/indexes/%u # Qpopper pop3_reuse_xuidl = yes The new mail is sent to in /var/mail/%u in mbox format How can I migrate some users to maildir and have them receive their emails either in POP3 or IMAP. [Dovecot] LDA Sieve debugging

Hello all, I've installed and setup the LDA with postfix. I'm trying out Sieve support, and wrote the following global script: require "fileinto"; if address :contains "To" "luca(a)mydomain.tld" { fileinto "Spam"; } and tried to send an email to that address. The sieve script seems to be processed and sieve-global.scriptc is compiled, but the message is not filed in the correct folder. [Dovecot] PAM authentification problem

Hi everybody, we try to migrate our IMAP service from uw-imap to dovecot because of horrible server slowdown when a lot of people poking in theirs huge imap folders. So, I try to run testing instance of dovecot on different imap port (12143) I have trouble with authentication by PAM module of MIT Kerberos. It successfuly works for authentificate users of wu-imap but not for dovecot. So, line "shadow ... invalid password field" is OK (when I made a local password in shadow the login was success) My dovecot.conf looks like: sl_disable = yes protocol imap { listen = *:12143 } auth_default_realm = FZU.CZ auth_verbose = yes auth_debug = yes auth_debug_passwords = yes auth default { mechanisms = plain passdb pam { } userdb passwd { } user = root } original /etc/pam.d/dovecot I introdused by lines auth sufficient pam_krb5.so auth required pam_unix2.so use_first_pass nullok or tryed to substitute whole file pam.d/dovecot by actualy working one of imap: #%PAM-1.0 auth sufficient pam_krb5.so auth required pam_unix2.so use_first_pass nullok auth required pam_unix2.so account required pam_unix2.so but similary fruitless. Which direction I have to dig? P.S. Dovecot was built from dovecot-1.0.beta3-6.src.rpm on SuSE 9.0 with the same result like from dovecot-1.0.beta3.tar.bz2 :(

[Dovecot] Install/configure on FC4 with maildir and mysql

Hello, I have a FC4 x64 server that I am configuring/testing. It had dovecot 0.99 loaded after I did a yum update. That worked great with mbox, the passwd file, and test users in /home/users/username. I would like to be able to authenticate virtual users by 'username(a)domain.com' and have them be able to use squirrelmail or Outlook/Outlook Express to access their email. Users have no reason to have a login (shell) account on this machine. I also would like to use the maildir format for performance. I also have hundreds of users currently on a RH9 mail server using qpopper in mbox format, hashed mail spool. Questions: 1)Is a mysql database the best way to support "user(a)domain.com" email users? (they don't have any reason for a shell account on this machine) 2)What version of dovecot should I be using? I prefer RPMs and at http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2006-February/011467.html I found http://fedora.ivazquez.net/yum/4/x86_64/RPMS.alternatives/dovecot-1.0-0.iva… I installed this and then configured procmail for maildir delivery. I configured dovecot-sql.conf for mysql driver...but the mysql driver does not appear to be compiled in this rpm. 3)Anyone have any general tips on how to configure such a beast? Thanks, Curt
