[Dovecot] How to create .dovecot.sieve through IMAP?

Hi All, I suspect that the answer is "no way," but there's hope. I'm trying to set up a PHP application Ingo (part of Horde suite) to create the file <home>/.dovecot.sieve for the "advanced" LDA to do mail sorting. Because PHP is running under a Web server user, Ingo can't really write this file directly. My question is, is there any way for Ingo (or any other tool, for that matter) to create that file via IMAP protocol interaction? Horde authenticates users and "knows" login/password combination (that's how it accesses mail folders). Thank you! Sergey.

[Dovecot] using uid in ldap to send email with postfix to dovecot-users!!

Hallo @All I want to use the uid entry in an ldap-database to send email to virtuell dovecot users. What have I to to in postfix?? Allways get an error message user does not exist!! Can abybody help with an example?? Thanks a lot

Thanks Reuben......I got there just as your reply came in......for some reason I didn’t find them before. Found them all as hidden directories under Maildir. [Dovecot] Really dumb question

Just got dovecot running inside MEPIS 3.3.2 SOHO (debian). I am impressed. It works really well and I am planning to move my mail away from my Win server and access the mail from dovecot using imap. I have copied some folders from my existing Outlook mail system into the imap mail server without any problems....so here is the dumb question: where are the mail files/folders stored on the MEPIS server? I have been all over the file system and cant find any files that look right. The dovecot doco talks about mail location for the index files - but I have looked in all of those and cant find anything. The MEPIS system has a Maildir for the user......but that looks just as it did at install: contains three folders, cur, new and tmp all of which are empty :( Please dont flame - I have looked and I did try to find the answer but I although I can see the folders and messages through the imap client I cant actually find anything on the server.......and I would like to see something before I turn my Win mail server off. [Dovecot] Apple Mail cannot connect (1.0 beta3)

I'm testing 1.0 beta3 on our mail server, and finding that Apple Mail seems unable to connect to it. I'm running the 1.0b3 on port 997 so we can test it in parallel to 0.91 to compare performance (so far, it's hella faster). I've ensured that the users testing are _not_ connecting in any way to the 0.91 version running on port 993. From the OS X client side (10.4.5 + latest patches), Apple Mail simply sits there and spins, and eventually times out. The error it gives is: ----- Alert There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "UCSD" or try again. The server error encountered was: The connection to the server "csefast.ucsd.edu" on port 0 timed out. ----- I'm thinking, "port 0, WTF?" ... On the server, I get this out of the logs: ----- Mar 2 11:54:48 csefast dovecot: imap-login: Disconnected: Inactivity: rip=<client_ip_address>, lip=<server_ip_address>, TLS Mar 2 11:54:48 csefast dovecot: imap-login: SSL_accept() syscall failed: EOF [<client_ip_address>] ----- Apple Mail is configured to connect to port 997 and has "Use SSL" checked. I'm not getting anything else useful out of the Mac in terms of debugging info. Thunderbird seems to be working fine (all platforms). [Dovecot] Thunderbird 1.5 and dovecot 1.0 beta 3 problem

My mailhosting provider has been testing dovecot 1.0 beta 3 as a proxy server and they asked the customers if they would like to test it out and report any issues. I am using Thunderbird 1.5 (IMAP) and have been with this mailhosting company for two months and have no issues at all with their current setup which uses Perdition as their proxy servers. The problem(s) I am encountered have been reported here a few times previously over the last couple of years but in searching I have not found any concrete solutions. When I first tested it out there was a continuous problem of a failure in saving a copy of an email to the sent folder although the message was sent. One of the staff of the mailhosting company noted this exact problem as well and believed the issue was Dovecot announcing different IMAP capabilities than the real backend IMAP servers (via the CAPABILITY command). This was supposedly fixed and initially there were no issues with the first set of test emails. However, in short order, this problem re-emerged and there would be sporadic failures to copy a message to the sent folder. Another issue would be that every now and then, when clicking on a folder in the left-hand pane (and no other activity going on with Thunderbird like downloading a new mail) Thunderbird would hourglass for 10-15 seconds as if it were trying to open a connection and was having difficulty. The maximum number of connections setup in Thunderbird is the default 5 and I am advised that this is the correct setting with their servers. Reducing the maximum number of connections does not appear to change matters in terms of avoiding these problems. Changing back to the current system (ie not using the test proxy server) both these issues disappeared. I have been in communication with the mailhosting provider as to my findings but it would be most appreciated if others here would perhaps have some insight into this matter. Peter

[Dovecot] lock files on mbox using 1.0 stable

Hi i am using dovecot 1.0 stable no SSL on FC3 and mbox format i have a user who seem prone to file locks. he had a pop3 process running for 8 hours. i killed it and deleted the lock but it returned a few hour later. the user is using Outlook express only. as a test i have setup a new account for him but would like to know if there is a way to stop this happening. i have gone thru the conf and default_mail_env = mbox:/var/spool/mail/%u #lock_method = fcntl #mbox_read_locks = fcntl #mbox_write_locks = dotlock fcntl #mbox_read_locks = fcntl mbox_dotlock_change_timeout = 30 Mark -- No virus found in this outgoing message. [Dovecot] maildir locking and 'racing'

hello Timo, list, quick error-message question. A few of the accounts on my main mailserver are failing to log in with errors like this: dovecot: Mar 02 19:33:35 Error: imap(user(a)example.com): maildir_file_do(/var/lib/vpopmail/domains/example.com/user/Maildir) racing if I log in by telnet everything is fine, and from the source it looks like the error happens when dovecot fails to get a lock on some important file or other. Could it be to do with concurrent connections? No idea. Has anyone seen this, and can you suggest a quick fix? I can't see any obvious difference between the accounts that work and those that don't :( nb. this is with vpopmail, and the Maildirs have just been moved over from another server that was also running the same version of dovecot. Some of the accounts do work. Perhaps it's just an obscure file permissions problem, or something? I'd be very glad of any suggestions. thank you, will
