[Dovecot] Out of memory problem

Hi guys, Running SuSe 9.3 with dovecot 1.0.alpha3 source installation. One of the users has quite a lot of important email in a folder, but when he trys to view this folder, it either sits and waits, and then times out, or just logs out straight away. Looking in the log(/var/log/mail), I'm getting the following error. Feb 6 09:22:08 mail postfix/qmgr[27221]: 198B96D1CE: removed Feb 6 09:22:08 mail dovecot: imap(ralphs): pool_system_malloc(): Out of memory Feb 6 09:22:08 mail dovecot: child 23018 (imap) returned error 83 (Out of memory) I've searched around on google for this error and haven't found anything useful as of yet. My next step is to upgrade to the latest version of dovecot, but this is quite a large company, and I will need to wait until after hours to do the upgrade. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Does any schedule exist for beta3? I'm now running stable snapshot from cvs, but i don't think it's a good thing, beta2 has memory leak in mysql code So what should i do? apply patch to beta2 or beta3 will be really soon? -- Pavel

[Dovecot] How to have a "public" readonly folder?

I searched the website and the mailing list and had difficulty finding an answer. I have my email users who are using dovecot-1.0.beta2. I also have setup a dummy account to get the Linux Kernel Mailing List (LKML) traffic. I would like to have it so that my IMAP users (maybe POP3 but don't need that) be able to read the LKML mailing list from that email account. I can put the email into an mbox or a maildir for the LKML mail. I have played around with the namespace and public option and I can't get it to work :( I tried this: namespace public { separator = / prefix = Public/ location = maildir:/home/virtemail/lkml/ } In my email client (Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5), I am unable to view the Public folder. If I select subscribe, I can see the Public folder but it is grayed out. Any ideas? Thanks, John

I keep getting the following error which I'm hoping someone here can help me troubleshoot. Alexander - We had this exact same issue with MySQL authentication. We resolved it by changing this entry in the auth section of the dovecot.conf: # Number of authentication processes to create #count = 1 We set count=20, and then through testing lowered it to count=10. This starts 10 auth-worker processes and to this point we have not had problems with the out of memory condition. -- Roger J. [Dovecot] Mixed IMAP/POP3 environment: further informations

Hello All, some further information. While waiting for some info I'm rolling back to UW and I discovered that if I delete the user "~/Maildir" automatically created by Dovecot, so including any index, the POP3 server works as expected. So it isn't the "Status" flag stored in the mbox file that prevents the download but some status information stored in the IMAP indexes created by Dovecot. [Dovecot] Dovecot index issues (Solaris/Thunderbird)

Folks - My setup is that my mail is filed (by procmail) in ~/.mail/Maildir, an NFS filesystem. But I'm running Dovecot (1.0alpha5) on my local machine (as myself on port 2143), just to serve this mail to my browser (Thunderbird 1.0.2). The NFS data is on a netapp which seems to be creating .nfs files LIKE CRAZY. I expect these are the remnants of lock files, so I'm trying to move my indexes onto local disk. To that end, I've created /var/tmp/mario/dovecot and put the following into my dovecot.conf: default_mail_env = maildir:%h/.mail/Maildir:INDEX=/var/tmp/mario/dovecot Dovecot happily makes index files, but then fails to serve some of my subscribed folders! Thunderbird is less than helpful in telling me what's going wrong, but dtmail shows that dovecot is reporting "out of sync" and a couple other errors (UID out of sequence), then closing the connection (for those folders). This may happen only after Thunderbird has tried to open the folder that I see these errors with dtmail: Dovecot ready. [UNSEEN 227] First unseen. [UIDNEXT 341] Predicted next UID IMAP connection broken (server response) No-op dead stream [CLOSED] No-op dead stream I've turned mmap off and set locking to fcntl. As a last resort, I've turned indexes off default_mail_env = maildir:%h/.mail/Maildir:INDEX=MEMORY but this makes thunderbird reload all headers every time I open a folder, which takes a very long time. Any suggestions? How do I debug this further? Mario

Hallo! I installed dovecot at a customers and it is not working. Neither the 1.0.alpha4 (Debian testing) nor the 1.0.beta2 (Debian unstable) do. in /var/log/mail.err I get following error message over and over again: Feb 7 07:12:02 harmserv dovecot: imap(duerkop): file mbox-sync-rewrite.c: line 106 (mbox_sync_headers_add_space): assertion failed: (start_pos < data_size) Feb 7 07:12:02 harmserv dovecot: child 21001 (imap) killed with signal 6 Please notice the client reads the index but cannot access the contents themself! [Dovecot] passwd-userdb with args

I'm not sure why the 'passwd' userdb didn't allow args, but it meant (for instance) that the quota plugins weren't usable. I spent quite a bit of time trying to get my new quota-rquotad plugin to work, only to find out that it was my 'quota=rquotad:<filesystem list>' argument that wasn't being passed to the imap child :) The attached patch implements arguments for the 'passwd' userdb, just like it exists for the 'static' userdb (in fact, mostly copy-pasted from 'static'.) It doesn't try to avoid clashing with the values found in the passwd-struct, but I suspect it ends up overwriting them. That could probably be a feature ;) I don't use the passwd-file userdb, but that one would probably also enjoy being argified. -- Thomas Wouters <thomas(a)xs4all.net> Hi!
