Ok, I now have Dovecot working but I'm having an issue with my start up from xinetd. I tried to follow the examples in the documentation, but why can't I just have a single entry for IMAP with just dovecot? Wouldn't this also open up the SSL and the POP3 stuff as well? [Dovecot] Unused SQL API

Greetings, recently I've been writing a database driver module for Dovecot to use SQLite. It's mostly for my own use, but I do recall other people have asked for this. Firstly - Timo, I grow to love your work more and more every day. :) I have not had any trouble figuring out what is needed of the driver, even without any API documentation. However, the one part of the driver that's given me pause has turned out to most likely be unnecessary. Whilst I was trying to work out how to deal with the sql_result->get_values() call without leaking memory, it seemed an odd method to have along side the other calls. So I decided to look for where it was used, to try to understand. Only, it isn't. The _only_ point I can find in the sources that calls that method is in the Postgress SQL driver. [Dovecot] Upgraded from alpha 3 to 4 getting errors

I just upgraded from alpha 3 to alpha 4 and now I'm getting these errors: dovecot: Nov 28 16:17:37 Info: Dovecot v1.0.alpha4 starting up dovecot: Nov 28 16:20:11 Info: imap-login: Login: user=<jdoe>, method=PLAIN, rip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, lip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, TLS dovecot: Nov 28 16:20:13 Info: imap-login: Login: user=<jdoe>, method=PLAIN, rip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, lip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, TLS dovecot: Nov 28 16:20:13 Error: imap(jdoe): flock() locks not supported dovecot: Nov 28 16:20:13 Error: child 15661 (imap) returned error 89 I'm using maildir so locking shouldn't be an issue. Mail storage is NOT nfs mounted. I'm on Solaris 9. Any ideas? -- Andy

[Dovecot] Question on moving folders

Is there a way to move an imap subfolder up one level? I have a bad mouse and every now and then I have accidentally dragged an imap folder on top of another folder. I am unable to get the original folder back up one level. I've tried using several clients and I can't get it to work with dovecot. I keep getting a "folder already exists" message. I'm guessing dovecot still sees the original folder before it was moved. Any tips... besides getting a new mouse? -- Andy

Hi, Does anyone know if it is possible to make dovecot to only accept connections from specific clients such as Thunderbird on Squirrelmail an deny access to Outlook (as it creates folders) etc.. /jon

[Dovecot] Chrooting question

Hi, All. I've got a feeling it's a simple matter and it was discussed on this list (i've searched the archive) but still all answers i've found didn't solve this problem. We want to move from UW-IMAP to dovecot, when users INBOX is /var/mail/USER_NAME and his folders are ~USER_NAME/mail/. In addition the host is an FTP server that uses chrooting in order to prevent users from accessing files outside their home directories. Our /etc/passwd line looks like this: some_user:x:1234:123:Some User:/home/./some_user:/bin/shell When i try to check mail on this host with this user i receive the following error message: Dec 1 08:21:11 server dovecot: [ID 935345 mail.error] Invalid chroot directory '/home' (user some_user) (see valid_chroot_dirs in config file) After which comes a line with: "Internal login failure" I've tried to configure different chroot options in configuration file, but had no luck at all. Of course when i remove the "." from passwd line everything works great (except FTP:). I'm using 1.0 alpha 4 on Solaris 9. Please let me know if you have such setup and what is the exact setting i need to add to configuration. Thanks in Advance, Greg

I'm using dovecot 1.0.alpha4 on a freebsd 5.3 i386 system. Dovecot is configured to use mysql authentication and I'm running mysql 5.0.15 . Everything works fine, but after a period of inactivity (20-30 minutes ) when I connect and try to authenticate it just hangs. Another question would be why read(4, "", 478) returns 0 ? this means that the server closed connection right ? why would the auth server close the connection with the auth worker ? I had a similar problem with dovecot 0.99 but there I got a "login failed" error message immediately , with 1.0alpha4 it just hangs. I also used a nightly cvs snapshot and the problem is there too. [Dovecot] Graceful shutdown

Hello all, I am running Dovecot v1alpha4 on Fedora 4 from the command line (as opposed to deamon). Is there a recommended way to shut it down gracefully? Or do I just use killall -9 dovecot? I'm not using the included version, so I can't do SERVICE DOVECOT STOP. Thanks, Cliff
