[Dovecot] Pop-before-smtp and MySQL?

Hi, I found that dovecot have many nice features. Now I write because I'm tring to setup the dovecot server, I would substitute a qpopper daemon (patched for mysql authentication) The problem I find is to set up the pop-before-smtp using sql (mysq) as written in http://wiki.dovecot.org/moin.cgi/PopBSMTPAndDovecot (Waiting for post_login ;-) I would use the script popbsmtp.sh and not a perl pig. (I'm using qpopper patched to store the relay IP in mysql and it works) I set .my.cnf in /root What happen is that the $3 don't contain the IP that should be written to the DB. Is there something I miss ? I tried to modify the dovecot.conf file like this mail_executable = /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/popbsmtp.sh /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/pop3 %r "%r" and it write to the db the litteral value %r and not the ip, otherwise it write nothing. the connection with mysql works and any other operation on it works. this should be the last step for my setting. [Dovecot] Tools to analyze status/stats?

Hello, I recently installed dovecot on a server running Debian. I only have 10 users, but we probably have 6Gig of email between us. Things were working flawlessly for a couple of weeks, and I'm still getting email, but the last few days we are getting fewer emails that we typically do. So although things seem to be working well, everyone is suspicious something is wrong due to the lack of email volume. Is there a size limit that dovecot can manage? Are there any admin tools to get status messages for dovecot? Are there any reporting tools to show how many messages are processed/managed by dovecot? Thanks!!

[Dovecot] 1.0alpha4: pop3_reuse_xuidl patch

hi all, this is needed to make the pop3_reuse_xuidl option work in 1.0alpha4. I am using maildir and I noticed that for each message which doesn't have an indexed X-UIDL header, the entire message is read from disk. as this is reading only headers, it is probably reasonable to stop reading at the end of the headers. it would also be neat if dovecot could be configured to only try reading X-UIDL headers from messages if the mailbox indexes don't exist, since I guess it would be common to want to preserve existing X-UIDLs but not bother for new messages (perhaps some mtime comparison, or something). opinions? I haven't looked at the source enough yet to be able to do this, but these two optimizations would vastly reduce the amount of disk IO as a result of using this option. grant. [Dovecot] Unknown message data

Running 1.0-alpha4 on Sarge, when I move a message with a blank subject from one mailbox into another, and then open that destination mailbox in Pine, Pine gives me the error "Unknown message data: 1001 FETCH", where 1001 is the UID of the message. Paul

[Dovecot] Struggling with namespaces...

Hi all, I've been using dovecot 0.99x as a basic POP3/IMAP server at a couple of sites for a few months now and am very happy with it's simplicity, stability and performance, especially over the rather 'clunky' courier and the mammoth cyrus. I'm building up a top level mail server for our organisation and am desperate to use dovecot in there but I'm really struggling with using namespaces to create some shared maildirs - note that in this case I'm using the 1.0alpha4 debian packages that recently made it into 'etch'. I have very simple requirements here - I just want to be able to have some common folders subscribable by certain users, for my testing an announcements folder accessible by all and an archive folder I want to place some restrictions on. Whenever someone needs access to someone elses folder (ie. holiday watch), symlinking should be sufficient. I can start up dovecot, log in as a user (I authenticate against LDAP btw), see the directories specified in my namespace directives be created but I can't subscribe to anything. Squirrelmail gives an error stating "[TRYCREATE] Mailbox doesn't exist: archives" while Thunderbird shows the folder names in grey and refuses to subscribe. Am I missing the point of namespaces or have I failed to create something in the folders to get them to play? I read something about a dovecot-shared file but I think this is a 0.99 thing, although I tried creating the file with the permissions I wanted applied to the folder and it didn't do anything... I did notice that when the folders are created, they are created owned by the first user logged in. I have tried chmod'ing them to 777 to see if it makes a difference, but alas, no. The relevant bit of dovecot.conf is: namespace private { separator = / #prefix = #location = inbox = yes #hidden = yes } namespace public { separator = / prefix = announcements/ location = maildir:/var/mail/announcements/Maildir } namespace shared { separator = / prefix = archives/ location = maildir:/var/mail/archives/Maildir } I'm sure I'm just being picky, but a better explanation of namespaces in the docs might be in order, maybe with some examples. [Dovecot] 1.0.alpha4 process creation wierdness

Hi list! I'm a little confused. I have set "login_process_per_connection = yes" and "login_processes_count = 1", and this is how my pstree looks when nobody is connected: dovecot -,- dovecot-auth `- imap-login However, when I connect with a client it looks like this: dovecot -,- dovecot-auth |- imap `- 2*[imap-login] I would expect it to only have one imap-login running. Anyway, when I disconnect the client, the imap process exits but imap-login keeps running: dovecot -,- dovecot-auth `- 2*[imap-login] This is when it gets really wierd. When I connect a client again, my pstree looks like I would have expected it to on my first connect: dovecot -,- dovecot-auth |- imap `- imap-login If I re-connect, we start over again (i.e. dovecot-auth, imap, 2 * imap-login). [Dovecot] Feature/bug starting from xinetd

Hi, I hate to have my first post be a bug, but this drove me crazy for a while. I compiled the latest version from source and followed the instalation instructions. I then copied the xinetd.d entries from the Wiki and proceded to test. No matter what I did I could not log on. I found that while I was editing /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf, nothing was hapening. I then started it manualy and found several errors in my editing. :-) After fixing the errors and getting it to work properly, I went back to running it from xinetd. It would not allow me to log on, nor would it use any of the loging options I set. After making a symlink from /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf to /etc/dovecot.conf, it worked perfectly. My suggestions: 1. Change the Wiki to point out the difference in the config file location. 2. Change the inetd version to default to /usr/local/etc. 3. [Dovecot] New Install Assistance

Hello, I built a Fedora 4 sendmail server to replace our old one. I wanted to try the stock Dovecot popper (we currently use pop3d). I tried implementing Dovecot this morning and failed. All I want to use is the POP portion (no IMAP). From what I could find on the Internet, all I had to do is change dovecot.conf protocols line to read like this: protocols = pop3 Apparently, that wasn't enough. Here are the errors I saw in maillog: Oct 31 07:54:23 sendmail dovecot: child 25511 (pop3) returned error 89 Oct 31 07:54:24 sendmail pop3(cliffhayes): mbox: Can't create root IMAP folder /home/cliffhayes/mail: Permission denied Oct 31 07:54:24 sendmail pop3(cliffhayes): MAIL environment missing and autodetection failed (home /home/cliffhayes) Now, I did find out that I had a permissions problem with /var/spool/mail (I had done an SCP of all our users to var/spool/mail on new box). All user mailboxes had root/root as user/group. I know how to fix that for next time, but why is it trying to use a home directory (we don't use those)? And what MAIL environment is missing? Do I need to mess with the following settings: # default_mail_env = maildir:/var/mail/%1u/%u/Maildir # default_mail_env = mbox:~/mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u # default_mail_env = mbox:/var/mail/%d/%n/:INDEX=/var/indexes/%d/%n Thanks, Cliff

[Dovecot] Big quota problem

Hi, I'm using dovecot 1.0a3. I setup my system with quota filesystem. If a user is over quota and he try to read the email in pop3 dovecot return the following error: Oct 14 18:51:59 blackhole dovecot: pop3(user): write_full(/home/user/Maildir/dovecot-uidlist.lock) failed: Disk quota exceeded I think it's a big problem.
