[Dovecot] Dovecot, Outlook Express and new accounts

I have come across a strange situation, involving new accounts. I am running Dovecot 0.99.10-5 on Fedora Core 2. Dovecot is configured to use pam for authentication, and the dovecot pam service is configured to use pam_mkhomedir. When an account is created and the user logs in through SquirrelMail, there is no problem. The standard folders are available - Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items and Trash. When logging in through Outlook Express first, it gives the following error:- The server did not respond to this IMAP command before the connection was terminated. My suspicion that Outlook Express is not intelligent enough to create the folders, although the sudden connection drop might indicate a bug. If it is not a bug, is there a workaround? [Dovecot] Asserion Failure in Current CVS

Just installed the version from CVS as of Oct. 27. I noticed three problems quite quickly: Still seeing "(imap) killed with signal 14" My INBOX closed with "access error" after reading it for a bit. There's nothing in the logs or anything, but this hasn't happened for quite a while now. There where quite a lot of incoming messages at the time and I was marking messages as deleted using pine. After reverting to the last version of dovecot that I was using and restarting pine, it opened quickly (no reindexing) and the deleted emails where marked as deleted. [Dovecot] Folders mysterously deleted

Using alpha 3 on Solaris 9. One of our users reported all folders except his inbox were missing. I went to the server and looked at the logs and could find no indication that a sysadmin had logged in and deleted the folders. Also found no indication of anything unusual in the dovecot log file. Has anybody seen a situation where dovecot deleted folders?

I tried to research this but could not find anything. Apologies if someone already reported this issue. I was running alpha 3 on Solaris 9, and having some timeout issues on lasge mailboxes. Decided to upgrade to rc4 before tweaking anything else. [Dovecot] dovecot-example.conf error with POP3 UIDL format?

I just installed dovecot 1.0alpha4 on a very busy RHEL4 server with about 1300 users. So far so good, except for the dreaded duplicate emails in outlook for users who use POP3 and have "leave message on server" selected. After searching the archives I found that this is usually related to the UIDL format. The example in the .conf file is this: / # If you want UIDL compatibility with other POP3 servers, use: # UW's ipop3d : %08Xv%08Xu / Note that 'v' comes first, then 'u'.. But, right under it, is this: / # Note that Outlook 2003 seems to have problems with %v.%u format which was # Dovecot's default, so if you're building a new server it would be a good # idea to change this. %08Xu%08Xv should be pretty fail-safe. / In this example (and the next example just under it) 'u' comes first, then 'v'. So is the first example right, in that %08Xv%08Xu is compatible with UW ipop3d, but not outlook? Or is the UW ipop3d example a mistake? For what it's worth %08Xu%08Xv seems to have fixed my users' duplication problems. Shayne

I'm running dovecot 20051026 version on Redhat4. I tried to do a stress test. However dovecot dies after I login a few hundred users. I have some error messages in my mail log and am not sure if they are related to the problem. Hi, I have just built a copy of dovecot on my sparc based solaris box. I now have dovecot running but when I try to log in using thunderbird or the solaris default package I get bombed out and the following error is generated.... dovecot: Nov 09 21:42:57 Error: child 20780 (imap) returned error 89 dovecot: Nov 09 21:42:57 Error: imap(ppchurch): flock() locks not supported I have set the lock method to fcntl and restarted dovecot but I still get the same error ... anybody else seen this before? [Dovecot] Moving from mbox to maildir?

Hi all, New to the list. I have an updated FC4 box with Dovecot version 0.99.14.4.fc4. My mbox size is about 76 megs and growing rapidly because of several high-volume mailing lists I'm subscribed to. I have noticed that over time the performance of the Evoluion/Spamassassin/Dovecot combo deteriorates. Someone on the Fedora users list suggested I have a look at moving to a maildir setup. Reading the docs I can't really figure out what to. Does anyone have a suggestion how I can safely move my mbox setup to a maildir setup? Much appreciated! Regards, Patrick
