[Dovecot] Question regarding dovecot 0.99.14 & 1.0 stable

Hi all, For several day's now I've been attempting to get Dovecot working, but without much success so far. I've compiled both 0.99.14 and the latest 1.0 stable version with mysql support, which seems to be working for the 0.99.14. Unfortunately version 1.0 stable wont start and quits with this: dovecot: Jun 13 16:44:47 Error: child 27346 (auth) killed with signal 11 dovecot: Jun 13 16:44:48 Error: Auth process died too early - shutting down Version 0.99.14 starts though! I've not included my dovecot.conf and dovecot-mysql conf here because of their size, if you need them please ask me by email. This version seems to work, I can see the databse getting queried, and can get authenticated. [Dovecot] chroot directory question

I am setting up dovecot for imap on a new Fedora 3 box. Through SquirrelMail I can access my email - no problem. However my other users are getting this error message: ERROR : Connection dropped by imap-server. Query: CAPABILITY Looking in the maillog file for further error details gives me this: dovecot: chroot directory no included in valid_chroot_dirs: /home/user Looking through the dovecot.conf file I see where it says not to add in home directories under valid_chroot_dirs if the users have access to those directories. So I'm stuck now as to what I need to add to the conf file and I'm a little confused as to why it works for my email account and not the other users. Everything with these user accounts is setup the same (same maildir format, etc.). Thanks for any help :) Lisa B.

Hello Timo, I've upgraded from dovecot-0.99 to dovecot-1.0-stable (the 2005-05-09 version) on FreeBSD 5.4 and encountered the following problems (problem #4 (assertion failed) made me downgrade back to dovecot-0.99...) : 1. mbox sync: UID inserted in the middle of mailbox /var/mail/gopauld (5230 > 4407) --> OK, that's documented on the Wiki, not a real problem 2. imap(cxxx): mkdir_parents(/opt/dovecot/c/cxxx/.imap/INBOX) failed: Permission denied --> I can't understand why since /opt/dovecot/c is rwxrwxrwt and belongs to root:wheel 3. dovecot: IMAP(xxxx): UIDs broken with partial sync in mbox file /yyyy/zzzz/xxxx/Mail/Drafts 4. dovecot: IMAP(xxxx): file istream-raw-mbox.c: line 383 (istream_raw_mbox_get_body_size): assertion failed: +(rstream->body_offset != (uoff_t)-1) --> That one occured each time a user connected with Eudora (on OS-X) moved messages from INBOX to some of her IMAP mailboxes. Since it was in real life, I hadn't time to get a gdb backtrace. Notes : . that user had restarted her client (Eudora). . my messages moves from one IMAP mbox to another did work. . the assertion failed occured with the version of 2005-06-04 as well (which I tried since the ChangLog mentionned some similar problems). [Dovecot] mail directory in user home?

Hey: When I run dovecot and retrieve any mail for a user, a mail directory is created in the users home. It has a subdirectory Inbox. No mail goes there however, it all goes to /var/spool/username.
