[Dovecot] strip realms and force lowercasing of usernames?

Is it possible for dovecot to strip realms and force lowercasing of usernames? We have a lot of dumb customers who try logging in to pop3 with crap like UsERNAmE and bla(a)nonexistentdomain.com. All our usernames are lowercase and we have no realms. Trying to get hundreds of customers to fix this is hard and is a significant and costly support burden. It would be nice if dovecot could handle this in some way. -Dan

Hopefully doesn't break anything. And other stuff: - COPY shouldn't crash anymore with 64bit systems - If PAM modifies username, keep it - When auth workers died they leaked file descriptors in dovecot-auth - Auth workers were leaking memory for each request - Make MySQL connect abort in 10 seconds if it can't connect - 32bit UID/GIDs were truncated to 31bit value - dovecot-auth reports cache hits and misses on SIGUSR2

[Dovecot] master/config rewrite

I've finally got it to work, kind of .. It should allow you to log in, but several settings don't work yet and there are probably many bugs. Anyway, I thought I'd show this already in case someone is interested of looking how it works :) One thing I'm still wondering a bit is if I should show process names as: 32602 pts/19 S 0:00 dovecot/config 32603 pts/19 S 0:00 dovecot/log 32604 ? Ss 0:00 dovecot 32606 ? S 0:00 dovecot/imap-login 32607 ? S 0:00 dovecot/auth -s 3 Or if I should name the binaries all as dovecot-config, dovecot-log, etc. One nice thing with the above is that it also shows imap and imap-login processes while grepping for dovecot. You can get the tarball from http://dovecot.org/tmp/dovecot-1.0-test67-mrewrite.tar.gz (it has all the test73 changes despite the name..) Example configuration file (with bare minimals) is at http://dovecot.org/tmp/dovecot.conf I think I'll create a separate dovecot-master.conf for those service-blocks in the above config file (after I add include-directive to config file parser code). After the code is working better, I'll commit it to CVS and it'll be in future -test releases.

[Dovecot] Dovecot stable slow

A few days ago I installed dovecot stable to replace uw-imap. The install went well and all boxes were converted ok. When accessing the new imap server though, certain operations seem much slower, in particular, moving mail between boxes is very slow, and I have received several complaints from users that the mail server has slowed down. I can't figure out what the slow point is as maildir should be faster than mbox. -- I sense much NT in you. NT leads to Bluescreen. Bluescreen leads to downtime. Downtime leads to suffering. [Dovecot] Pop-before-smtp issue

Hi, I'm trying to use pop-before-smtp with Dovecot IMAP (not running pop3). Pop-before-smtp has fixes to work with the fact that Thunderbird holds the Dovecot Imap connection open and therefore doesn't record regular 'login' entries in maillog. Problem is that pop-before-smtp relies on Dovecot recording a disconnect in the maillog when an Imap client disconnects. Dovecot doesn't seem log disconnects. How can I get it to do this please ? We're getting ready to set up a new mail server running dovecot 0.99.11 (CentOS 4) with maildir and filesystem quotas. I saw on the Dovecot web site that "hard filesystem quota can also be problematic." How problematic? What problems might we anticipate? Thanks. Josh Kelley

[Dovecot] Can't see existing mail folders

I have installed dovecot version 0.99.11 on my Slackware 10.1 system recently and it basically works as expected. However I can't get it to 'see' existing mbox hierarchies. I have the following in dovecot.conf:- default_mail_env = mbox:/home/%u/Mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u (I also originally tried with %h/Mail) IMAP MUAs can see the INBOX OK but I can't get them to see any of the mail in $HOME/Mail. There certainly is lots of mail there, 250Mb or so of it, and a local mutt can see it without problems. [Dovecot] Question regarding dovecot 0.99.14 & 1.0 stable

Hi all, For several day's now I've been attempting to get Dovecot working, but without much success so far. I've compiled both 0.99.14 and the latest 1.0 stable version with mysql support, which seems to be working for the 0.99.14. Unfortunately version 1.0 stable wont start and quits with this: dovecot: Jun 13 16:44:47 Error: child 27346 (auth) killed with signal 11 dovecot: Jun 13 16:44:48 Error: Auth process died too early - shutting down Version 0.99.14 starts though! I've not included my dovecot.conf and dovecot-mysql conf here because of their size, if you need them please ask me by email. This version seems to work, I can see the databse getting queried, and can get authenticated.
