Dovecot LMTP rejecting mail from address with apostrophe

Hi, I have an OpenSMTPD / Dovecot installation on an OpenBSD server. I recently came across an issue where Dovecot LMTP would reject a message sent to a local user from an address which contains a single apostrophe (e.g. firstname.o'lastname(a)example.com) Apparently apostrophe, as well as a number of other special characters, are valid characters in the local part of the email address (that's everything to the left of the @ character). The part of the message: LMTP server error: 501 5.5.4 Invalid FROM: Invalid character in localpart is returned by dovecot-lmtp. I’ve had a brief look at the source code, and it seems the responsible code is somewhere inside src/lib-smtp/smtp-address.c and, if I understand the code correctly, the address parsing in actually done in src/lib-smtp/smtp-parser.c. My question is is there a configuration option, similar to auth_username_chars which lists valid characters in the email address, to stop Dovecot LMTP from rejecting such emails? or maybe you know another way of getting it to accept an email from such address? My dovecot version is: $ dovecot --version 2.3.5.1 (7ec6d0ade) And in case that makes any difference, I'm running OpenBSD 6.5 patched to 005_libssl. Thanks! Problem syncing e-mails with Outlook

Hello all, I am running dovecot- 2.3.5.2 with mdbox storage. I deleted the dovecot.index* from all my folders, which led to mails not being displayed. I rebuilt the indexes for all the users after that, using: doveadm force-resync -u user@domain "*" However, the problem now is that Outlook,configured for IMAP, is not able to sync the mails with the server. I can login to the server using webmail and I see all the e-mails listed. However, when I connect outlook, it does not sync all these e-mails. I am seeing the errors below. Not sure how to fix that. I'm using mdbox. What's the consequence of deleting dovecot.index.* from all folders? All mail gets lost or I can rebuild the indexes and get the mails?

mailbox encryption

Hello, I've got dovecot 2.3 going, and I've got a file 10-mailcrypt.conf which is loading mail_crypt, thinking that that plugin would propagate through all the services, sieve, lmtp, and mailbox message storage. I'm not seeing anything in the logs indicating that the encryption is happening. I am using a file format dbox specifically sdbox format, and in my mailbox I am seeing files like u.5 and others, a file check on them reveals them as data. Should I be seeing encryption in the logs? LDA vs LMTP change in header

Switching to dovecot LMTP appears to have change the information in the received header, which appears to be causing my spam filter to wig out and mark local to local emails as spam. What does Solr index do and how to handle its high avaliablity?

Hi, guys, Can you give me an example of solr usage in dovecot? As far as I know, you can search email easily by MUA like outlook, so which role does solr play? And based on https://dovecot.org/pipermail/dovecot/2019-April/115575.html I'm going to use an VIP to host 2 mail servers. Currently, it works in fail over and fail back test except solr index, so how to resolve this? Is it possible to put dovecot index on shared storage like NFS? How to if it's a yes. It seems it's under /var/solr/data/dovecot/data/ How to rebuild if I don't put index data on shared storage in case of fail over? Thanks,

Dovecot, quota, warning, and issue with setup?

Hello, I'm having an issue or two with my new Dovecot setup. I'm running version 2.3.6 new setup, and using sdbox as the mailbox format. Self-signed TLS client certificates

Dear List, I self-host my e-mail and run Dovecot since ever I do that. Dovecot version is 2.3.4.1 (f79e8e7e4), running on Debian testing. Now I am trying to configure Dovecot for client TLS certificates. I have a self-signed certificate whose private key resides on a smartcard (Yubikey, to be exact). I wanted Dovecot to accept that TLS client certificate instead of a password. So I searched and found this wiki page: <https://wiki2.dovecot.org/SSL/DovecotConfiguration#Client_certificate_verif…> But that Wiki page says: > The CA file should contain the certificate(s) followed by the matching > CRL(s). Note that the CRLs are required to exist. I have now messed three hours or so with OpenSSL to get a CRL generated for my self-signed certificate, but I can't get that to work (the problem appearently being that OpenSSL doesn't play well with private keys on smartcards). It doesn't make sense anyway, why does one need a CRL for a self-signed certificate? If the self-signed certificate's key gets compromised, the CRL does not help at all. So, here are my questions: 1. Is a CRL really a hard requirement? 2. If not: can I just use the self-signed certificate of my private key for the ssl_ca setting? 3. NOTIFY: bug on mailbox renaming and deletion ?

Hello, Testing the NOTIFY extension on imap.vivaldi.net, seems there's a bug when a mailbox is renamed or deleted. Requesting events with: A1 NOTIFY SET (inboxes (SubscriptionChange MailboxName)) Here are the sent events: - mailbox creation with automatic subscription (ok): * LIST () "." foo * LIST (\Subscribed) "." foo - mailbox renaming (bug ?): * LIST () "." bar ("OLDNAME" (foo)) * LIST (\Subscribed) "." bar * LIST () "." foo - mailbox deletion (bug ?): * LIST (\NonExistent) "." Trash.bar * LIST () "." Trash.bar It seems that for the two latter cases, the last received event is incorrect, Dovecot notifying of mailbox unsubscription after the mailbox has been renamed or deleted. In that case a client would consider those two last events not as mailbox renaming or deletion, but as a mailbox creation, wouldn't it ? Am I missing something ? Cheers. -- kael
