doveadm backup + ISO 8859-1 mailbox name

Hi! I'm trying to migrate a mailbox from an old IMAP server (not Dovecot) to a new Dovecot server with 'doveadm backup'. The command fails because of an unexpected character in a mailbox name: doveadm -o imapc_user=ag(a)example.org \ -o imapc_password=XXX \ -o imapc_host=old-mailserver.webflow.de \ -o imapc_port=993 \ -o imapc_ssl=imaps \ -o imapc_ssl_verify=no \ -o imapc_features=rfc822.size,fetch-headers \ -o ssl_client_ca_dir=/etc/ssl \ backup -R -f -x ~* -u migration-ag(a)example.org imapc: dsync(migration-ag(a)example.org): Info: imapc(old-mailserver.webflow.de:993): Connected to 1.1.1.1:993 (local 2.2.2.2:46154) dsync(migration-ag(a)example.org): Error: Failed to access mailbox Entw?rfe: mailbox does not exist The problem is with "Entw?rfe" here. It's actually Entw<0xfc>rfe, which translates to "Entwürfe" in ISO-8859-1. Why can't doveadm find that mailbox? Is the old mailserver misbehaving (I hope not because I have no idea how to change that...), or does this happen on the new server? Can I tell doveadm something that makes this work? Autosubscribe to public folder

Hello everyone! I am trying to migrate from Dovecot 1.2 to Dovecot 2.2 and I can`t find information how to subscribe all users to public folder. In Dovecot 1.2 I have a few strings kind of "autosubscribeX = Public.Documents" and every users get subscribed to this Public folders and can`t unsubscribe. This is a goal. Is any posibility to make the same in Dovecot 2.2 or each user have to susbscribe to public folders themselves and this is kind of policy of Dovecot 2.2? -- С уважением, Рустам Багов.

TFA authentication in dovecot, using XMPP and RFC 4226

Hello, I would like to implement some kind of two factors authentication, in Dovecot. I am thinking about using the post login script, to check for unusual behaviour, like say, a different country / IP address or an unusual hour. I already wrote a simple shell script that check these factors, but now, I have some options for the following, and I need to know your opinion if this is feasible or not. I want to use google authenticator Debian package (support the HMAC- Based One-time Password (HOTP) algorithm specified in RFC 4226 and the Time-based One-time Password (TOTP)) The challenge would be send via XMPP. This second part is fairly easy to do, I have all the packages on Debian, for instance sendxmpp. The first tests are promising. In case of success, the IP address is added to the list, let's say for one month... My back-end for authentication is OpenLDAP. My questions are: - Do you see any performance issues for other users or login processes, if I implement this? - I am planning to use a timeout, for instance one minute to confirm the connection. Does Dovecot have a timeout on its side, that would abort the connection before? Otherwise: - Is it possible to have multiple authentication back-ends in Dovecot? For instance LDAP and/or OTP? - I think to have seen some TFA options in Dovecot, but AFAICS, they are mandatory. Hello, guys, I'm going to using sieve and quota plugins, but I'm not sure where shall I enforce against properly? I see somebody uses them against 20-imap.conf, 15-lda.conf, or 20-lmtp.conf I use LMTP as MDA, so where is the correct location to call these plugins and why? Thanks,

Trying to track down source of duplicate messages

Hi, I have a fedora28 system with dovecot-2.3.5 and I'm trying to figure out why I'm increasingly receiving duplicate emails. The message IDs are exactly the same. It's always two of the same messages. I don't think it's ever occurred in the inbox. It doesn't happen with every message or seemingly in every folder. I've read about dovecot deduplicate, but of course I want to prevent them from being duplicated in the first place. It's also happening much more frequently now. Could something in my configuration cause this problem? ssl_min_protocol

What are the possible settings for ssl_min_protocol? I only see it on the upgrade page where it mentions the default is TLSv1. Searching on the dovecot page gives me "Your search query "ssl_min_protocol" didn't return any results." -- Up the airy mountains, down the rushy glen... sql table definitions

Hi all, Trivial question ... I'm using PostgreSQL for my auth db. I used the example CREATE TABLE statement in the config file, but now I find the fields are too short. I assume dovecot will be fine with 'text' type columns replacing the varchars? Or failing that, I can change the length of the varchar fields? Cheers, Richard

mail_crypt not working on incoming messages?

[Dovecot v2.2.33.2] I'm testing out mail_crypt on a fresh Dovecot install to get a feel for how it works, but I'm running into something unexpected. The mail_crypt plugin does seem to be working, but NOT on incoming email. What I mean is, if I send a test email to the server that has Dovecot installed, the message correctly arrives in the user's Maildir folder (I'm using Maildir format, not mbox), as I can see the mail message file appear. However, the message file is in plaintext and is not encrypted. But, if, using my Thunderbird email client connected to that account via IMAP, I move that message out of the inbox of that account to a folder on another account, and then move it back in to the original inbox, the file that appears in the Maildir folder structure IS encrypted. I have confirmed that mail_crypt is active in 10-mail.conf, 20-imap.conf, and 20-pop3.conf. The global public and private keys are working because (a) there are no errors and (b) it DOES encrypt -- just not on incoming email. mail_crypt_save_version is set 2, as per the docs for Dovecot 2 instruct. What am I missing? Does anyone have any thoughts as to why JUST incoming messages aren't encrypted, but that messages moved into the IMAP account DO get encrypted? Did I set up something incorrectly? I'm using sendmail as the MTA, if that matters, and messages are routed to the user's Maildir folder structure using a .procmailrc in that user's home folder. -Dave

dovecot ssl error message from my own connections

Hello all, Just a minor thing. Not a big deal, because everything works fine, and I feel secure with my setup. But, I get this error message pretty much throughout the day/night, which appears to come from my own mail clients (desktop or mobile). I would like to resolve it, because it must me something (that is not good--that I may not understand), that may have other ramifications. So, here it is. date time myserver dovecot: imap-login: Debug: SSL error: SSL_read() syscall failed: Connection reset by peer Anyone have a suggestion of what this might hint to, other than obvious SSL. I tried parsing through various logs, but the most I find is just this single line. I can produce it, whenever I close my email client. Thanks in advance.
