Poking around in the code for dovecot-stable seems to indicate that support has been added for the {SSHA} password scheme. This is not reflected in dovecot-ldap.conf. Is the SSHA code actually functional? Thanks! -Ben

Hi all, just noticed a small problem in test70. If you have an mail in your maildir 'new' directory, and use another method to delete that email (for instance pop it through another pop server), dovecot will continue to report that email as being on the server. So if you had 1 email, delete it through pop, dovecot will continue to say that 1 email is on the server, even if you disconnect/reconnect. If that same email is in the 'cur' dir (so its been read), this doesnt happen and dovecot will report 0 emails. Cor

hi, wondered whether some people tried dovecot and openmailadmin ? http://www.openmailadmin.org "openMailAdmin is a little administration interface to IMAP mailservers." "openMailAdmin works with most of the popular MTAs, such as Postfix or Sendmail, and with almost every complete IMAP-server, i.e. Cyrus or Courier" a google-search didn't show any useful results so far, i'm just curious whether some people already tried it with dovecot (of course i can try it myself, but quite busy currently)

OK. After checking the 0.99->1.0 migration documentation, it seems I've been a little confused between customflags and keywords. (Though this is partly due to my repeated requests for clarification being ignored.) The page (http://wiki.dovecot.org/moin.cgi/UpgradingDovecot) says 1.0 does not use .customflags any more. Now, I'm hoping they're still supported, in which case I'm curious to know where those details ARE stored? Is it possible for dovecot to strip realms and force lowercasing of usernames? We have a lot of dumb customers who try logging in to pop3 with crap like UsERNAmE and bla(a)nonexistentdomain.com. All our usernames are lowercase and we have no realms. Trying to get hundreds of customers to fix this is hard and is a significant and costly support burden. It would be nice if dovecot could handle this in some way. -Dan

And other stuff: - COPY shouldn't crash anymore with 64bit systems - If PAM modifies username, keep it - When auth workers died they leaked file descriptors in dovecot-auth - Auth workers were leaking memory for each request - Make MySQL connect abort in 10 seconds if it can't connect - 32bit UID/GIDs were truncated to 31bit value - dovecot-auth reports cache hits and misses on SIGUSR2

I've finally got it to work, kind of .. It should allow you to log in, but several settings don't work yet and there are probably many bugs. Anyway, I thought I'd show this already in case someone is interested of looking how it works :) One thing I'm still wondering a bit is if I should show process names as: 32602 pts/19 S 0:00 dovecot/config 32603 pts/19 S 0:00 dovecot/log 32604 ? Ss 0:00 dovecot 32606 ? S 0:00 dovecot/imap-login 32607 ? S 0:00 dovecot/auth -s 3 Or if I should name the binaries all as dovecot-config, dovecot-log, etc. One nice thing with the above is that it also shows imap and imap-login processes while grepping for dovecot. You can get the tarball from http://dovecot.org/tmp/dovecot-1.0-test67-mrewrite.tar.gz (it has all the test73 changes despite the name..) Example configuration file (with bare minimals) is at http://dovecot.org/tmp/dovecot.conf I think I'll create a separate dovecot-master.conf for those service-blocks in the above config file (after I add include-directive to config file parser code). After the code is working better, I'll commit it to CVS and it'll be in future -test releases.

A few days ago I installed dovecot stable to replace uw-imap. The install went well and all boxes were converted ok. When accessing the new imap server though, certain operations seem much slower, in particular, moving mail between boxes is very slow, and I have received several complaints from users that the mail server has slowed down. I can't figure out what the slow point is as maildir should be faster than mbox. -- I sense much NT in you. NT leads to Bluescreen. Bluescreen leads to downtime. Downtime leads to suffering. Hi, I'm trying to use pop-before-smtp with Dovecot IMAP (not running pop3). Pop-before-smtp has fixes to work with the fact that Thunderbird holds the Dovecot Imap connection open and therefore doesn't record regular 'login' entries in maillog. Problem is that pop-before-smtp relies on Dovecot recording a disconnect in the maillog when an Imap client disconnects. Dovecot doesn't seem log disconnects. How can I get it to do this please ? I have installed dovecot version 0.99.11 on my Slackware 10.1 system recently and it basically works as expected. However I can't get it to 'see' existing mbox hierarchies. I have the following in dovecot.conf:- default_mail_env = mbox:/home/%u/Mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u (I also originally tried with %h/Mail) IMAP MUAs can see the INBOX OK but I can't get them to see any of the mail in $HOME/Mail. There certainly is lots of mail there, 250Mb or so of it, and a local mutt can see it without problems. Hi all, For several day's now I've been attempting to get Dovecot working, but without much success so far. I've compiled both 0.99.14 and the latest 1.0 stable version with mysql support, which seems to be working for the 0.99.14. I am setting up dovecot for imap on a new Fedora 3 box. Through SquirrelMail I can access my email - no problem. However my other users are getting this error message: ERROR : Connection dropped by imap-server. Query: CAPABILITY Looking in the maillog file for further error details gives me this: dovecot: chroot directory no included in valid_chroot_dirs: /home/user Looking through the dovecot.conf file I see where it says not to add in home directories under valid_chroot_dirs if the users have access to those directories. So I'm stuck now as to what I need to add to the conf file and I'm a little confused as to why it works for my email account and not the other users. Everything with these user accounts is setup the same (same maildir format, etc.). Thanks for any help :) Lisa B.

Hello Timo, I've upgraded from dovecot-0.99 to dovecot-1.0-stable (the 2005-05-09 version) on FreeBSD 5.4 and encountered the following problems (problem #4 (assertion failed) made me downgrade back to dovecot-0.99...) : 1. mbox sync: UID inserted in the middle of mailbox /var/mail/gopauld (5230 > 4407) --> OK, that's documented on the Wiki, not a real problem 2. imap(cxxx): mkdir_parents(/opt/dovecot/c/cxxx/.imap/INBOX) failed: Permission denied --> I can't understand why since /opt/dovecot/c is rwxrwxrwt and belongs to root:wheel 3. dovecot: IMAP(xxxx): UIDs broken with partial sync in mbox file /yyyy/zzzz/xxxx/Mail/Drafts 4. dovecot: IMAP(xxxx): file istream-raw-mbox.c: line 383 (istream_raw_mbox_get_body_size): assertion failed: +(rstream->body_offset != (uoff_t)-1) --> That one occured each time a user connected with Eudora (on OS-X) moved messages from INBOX to some of her IMAP mailboxes. Since it was in real life, I hadn't time to get a gdb backtrace. Notes : . that user had restarted her client (Eudora). . my messages moves from one IMAP mbox to another did work. . the assertion failed occured with the version of 2005-06-04 as well (which I tried since the ChangLog mentionned some similar problems). Hey: When I run dovecot and retrieve any mail for a user, a mail directory is created in the users home. It has a subdirectory Inbox. No mail goes there however, it all goes to /var/spool/username. [Dovecot] Problem with configure.in in dovecot-stable CVS

I am having trouble with using dovecot-stable from CVS. I get the following error when running autogen.sh: configure.in: 4: required file `./[config.h].in' not found I see the config.h.in file in the root dir, but I cannot figure out what the brackets are for. If I modify the file and remove the brackets, it works properly and I can compile dovecot. What are the brackets in the name for? Am I breaking something by removing them?
