Hello Dovecot admins. I've started writing manual pages for Dovecot v2.0. I'm sure they are not perfect yet. I'd like to ask you all to read the manual pages. It would be nice to get some ideas/suggestions/improvements. So that that the Dovecot v2.0.0 release could be distributed with /fine manuals/. I've deleted some empty IMAP folders, using Thunderbird. But before deleting them, I had a look into Trash directory on the filesystem: /home/pvo/mdbox/mailboxes/Trash/ ├── dbox-Mails │ ├── dovecot.index │ ├── dovecot.index.backup │ ├── dovecot.index.cache │ └── dovecot.index.log ├── Dev │ └── dbox-Mails │ └── dovecot.index.log ├── S4 │ └── dbox-Mails │ └── dovecot.index.log └── Server4 └── dbox-Mails └── dovecot.index.log (Yeah, looks good, no dbox-GUID file.) Hi Stephan, ManageSieve uses the wrong™ service name for the authdb lookup. With dovecot-1.2-managesieve the service name was changed from 'managesieve' to 'sieve'. So I altered my table layout in order to make the query "SELECT userid AS "user", password FROM dovecotpassword('%Ln', '%Ld') WHERE %Ls" work again. When I try to login on the sieve port 4190/tcp, I find this in my dovecot.log: auth: Error: pgsql: Query failed, retrying: ERROR: column "managesieve" does not exist auth: Error: LINE 1: ...", password FROM dovecotpassword('user', 'example.org') WHERE managesiev... Hi, I've a set of public mailboxes that all users can access. The index is stored per user, so each user can mark the message as read for themselves. This is with dovecot 1.2.10. However, when selecting the mailbox, system flags are not announced as permanent but only as session flags: 3619 SELECT "public.Admin" * FLAGS (\Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Seen \Draft) * OK [PERMANENTFLAGS ()] Read-only mailbox. * 324 EXISTS * 0 RECENT * OK [UNSEEN 171] First unseen. * OK [UIDVALIDITY 1254326934] UIDs valid * OK [UIDNEXT 1102] Predicted next UID * OK [HIGHESTMODSEQ 1] Highest 3445 OK [READ-ONLY] Select completed. I think (reading the RFC, but I bet you know it better than me) that FLAGS should also been set in PERMANENTFLAGS since they can be permanent. The relevant code seems to be in commands-util.c (dovecot 1.2.11): void client_send_mailbox_flags(struct client *client, bool selecting) { […] if (mailbox_is_readonly(client->mailbox)) { client_send_line(client, "* OK [PERMANENTFLAGS ()] " "Read-only mailbox."); } else { […] } } Even if it's true that the Maildir is read-only, it's still possible to store \Seen permanently. Am I getting things wrong, or is this a bug? If I'm correct, a simple fix MAY be not to send the PERMANENTFLAGS at all since the RFC says: OK [PERMANENTFLAGS (<list of flags>)] A list of message flags that the client can change permanently. Hi, I'm using dovecot 2.0.beta5 (IMAP and LMTP+sieve) and I'm getting lots of errors like this: Warning: /data/mail/4567/Maildir/dovecot-uidlist: Duplicate file entry at line 3: 1274182284.M635158P16414.mail,S=767,W=785:2,S (uid 5 -> 16) All data is stored on local disk (ext3, no NFS!). As this is a fresh installation of dovecot I do not know if older versions work better. One user complained about loosing email from inbox but I guess that's probably a user error :) I think that the error might be related to deliveries via LMTP as this (new) functionality has not been tested extensivly (?) With 1.2.11 and mbox storage, the delay time in pulling new mail headers to the client from imap folders seems to be directly proportional to mailbox size, regardless of the number of new messages. At present, if the mailbox is large, pulling new headers is rather painfully slow. Is this expected behavior? Especially given that the client already has all the "old" mails in the folder cached, and thus wouldn't be asking for them? Is there a setting(s) I can change to optimize/fix this? -- Stan

Hi there, I've been working on rolling out the "deliver" service so we can implement sieve. Dovecot 1.2.11, Postfix 2.6.6, FreeBSD 8, installed by ports. Clustered environment, NFS backend. Everything is working great for the most part, I'm using it to sort a copy of my personal email on a test server. However, I noticed two emails were not properly sorted. I had added a rule (using Ingo, nice little piece of software) to redirect the nightly FreeBSD security output emails into a folder "servers". However, nothing had triggered that rule, and the "Maildir/.servers" directory had not yet been created. I'm assuming they were all sent to deliver at the same time, they all thought they needed to make the directory, the one with msgid 20100529070110.17A781B53B9(a)mail-out02.xecu.net was able to make the directory and get delivered, whereas the other two freaked out because they couldn't make the directory they thought needed to be made, and just sent the mail to the inbox. That's a reasonable approach, although I wonder if deliver/sieve could be (or perhaps "has been in 2.0") adjusted to more intelligently handle that edge case. Also, I'm wondering about "dovecot_destination_recipient_limit = 1". [Dovecot] Unresolved client rejection

Hi, would it be possible to prevent users who try to login from an unresolved IP from connecting to Dovecot IMAP? I have a suspicion that it should be done via the authentication module (ie PAM) but I am not sure (if this is the case could someone recommend a good resource or even a solution). For example sendmail has a relevant macro to achieve this, I was wondering if Dovecot can have similar behavior. Thanks

[Dovecot] imap folder aliases for different mail clients naming convention

Hi, sorry if this was asked before and/or if there is allready a solution different imap mail clients, have different imap folder naming conventions typical by sent , trash, spam i normally use thunderbird conventions, as its working on all major plattforms and configure hord/imp , squirrelmail to use it like thunderbird does, additional i use autocreate with this folders it would be nice to alias other mail clients naming conventions to TB folder naming conventions without poke around with i.e symlinks etc, i guess there might be some solution with namespaces but i hope i could be done more easy eventually with a alias plugin etc? -- Best Regards MfG Robert Schetterer Germany/Munich/Bavaria

Hello, recently I inspected the sourcecode of the lmtp server. I searched for changes that would add return-path header. ( http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2010-February/046401.html ) But I found, that all mails are spooled via files in /tmp. Hello guys, Firstly I would like to state that I am fairly new to Dovecot. I have played around with it in the past here and there but mainly with debian packages. I have compiled this version of Dovecot from source, so please go easy with me. Ok now down to my questions: I am having trouble getting Dovecot to 'ignore' the Trash folder when summing up the used quota for a user. I am running Dovecot 1.2.11 (with LDA), Postfix 2.5.5, and Postfixadmin 2.3. I am able to send and receive emails fine. Roundcube displays the quota used but this quota also counts what is in the users Trash can. Postfix is configured to hand over delivering of the mail to Dovecot. I have tried different methods from the documentation on ignoring the Trash folder, but have not come up with anything that has worked yet. If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be great. Hi, I'm getting an error trying to make 1.2.11 with mysql drivers on. Hi, I have a littel Problem. I?m running a Debian Lenny/Postfix/Dovecot Server. I hade immigrated from Courierer. Now I have the problem, that I get mail under Mail.app double. (same header, Message-ID ,...) When I use Thudnerbird under MacOS there is all OK. Are there some Configs that I need to make for MacOS / Mail.app ? Hi, I'm doing the final tests before I migrate my 10000 users from RHEL 4 + dovecot 1.1.20 to RHEL5 + dovecot 1.2.11, and I'm having some serious problems with outlook 2007 clients disconnecting very often. In dovecot's log I see lot of connects and disconnects from these clients (as oposed to my kmail, that just connects once when I come in and disconnects when I shut it off). After unchecking the "chek every X minutes" thing in outlook I get fewer of those -while functionality remains-, but the main problem still persists: every now and then (more or less 30 mins), the client disconnects, and sometimes the client goes offline. This didn't happen with my previous setup. I use the outlook-idle workaround, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Any ideas? Is there any way to still be able to login/delete email via dovecot-imap when the user's filesystem quota is exceeded? [Dovecot] Cannot Access Inbox

Hello Folks, Yesterday while messing around with procmail for SpamAssassin I had my IMAP client open and it lost it's ability to see my Inbox except for two messages. I tried another IMAP client and no success. I can see all other directories such as sent and the ones I have made. The mbox file is there and catable/grepable. I even made a new one. I can read a test account Inbox from the same server with my usual client. Also my small number of other users appear to be using pop3 as normal. Tried so far: * Multiple clients including pop3. * Removed spamd and procmail stuff. * Various permissions. * New mbox. * Restart everything, although I am not sure I rebooted the server last night. * Searched for lock files that may need to be deleted. * Googled. Server setup: * Mandriva Linux 2009.1 * Dovecot 1.1.13 * Postfix 2.5.6 The mailbox in question is my business and some personal email so I would greatly appreciate any help towards fixing this issue.
