Hello, i use successfully mysql-quotasystem with dovecot 1.2.11 on different servers except for mysql 4.0 servers dovecot internally uses sql: "ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE" which was introduced in mysql 4.1 Is there a chance to make this statement mysql 4.0 compatible or should i update mysql? i want to avoid updating mysql because some old software is running which is not compatible to higher mysql versions. Hello, I need to restrict outgoing email. I am using RedHat CentOS 4.7 and Dovecot 0.99.11 Today all users can send emails to Internet. But some people should only be able to send email to other user in this mail server. Just a few persons can send emails to the Internet. How can I do that? THANKS! Hugo

Hello, It seems dovecot 2.0 beta4 still behave strangely without tcpwrap. I still get the errors: 2010-03-25_17:26:59.33848 Fatal: service(tcpwrap) access(/opt/dovecot/libexec/dovecot/tcpwrap) failed: No such file or directory 2010-03-25_17:27:00.36108 Fatal: service(tcpwrap) access(/opt/dovecot/libexec/dovecot/tcpwrap) failed: Permission denied It's easy to solve by touching and chmodding 0755 that file, but prod version shouldn't exhibit that behavior. Hi chaps We're using the mbox_snarf plugin to snarf mail from /var/mail/%U to ~%U/Mail/inbox and using dotlocking on all accesses. This is on Solaris with NFS mounted home directories. We're getting a few (very few) of these for just a couple of users: Error: nfs_flush_file_handle_cache_dir: rmdir(/var/mail) failed: Device busy Which, having searched, I see some discussion of in the past, but not with 1.2. We're using: mail_privileged_group = mail For the /var/mail 'inboxes', which I thought would tackle this problem. Couple of questions, if you don't mind: 1. Does dovecot user need to be a member of the mail group? 2. Does this error message represent a real problem that needs solving? It's very strange how rare it is and that only a few select users have encountered. Hello! I think about migrate from FreeBSD to Linux because I need DRBD for clustering. I want to use Debian Lenny but run on some problems. I want near latest Dovecot packages. Native repos are too old. Backports seems to don`t have a Sieve&Managesieve support and we need it(am I wrong?). Stephan Bosch auto packeges is not for production. How could I solve this without make own packages? What Debian folk`s do in this situation? P.S. I don`t want to use RedHat like OS because I not familiar with it. -- Best regards, Proskurin Kirill

Hey, I have several thousand email addresses, the vast majority of which are definitely no good, and I want to figure out which are good. So I will send out an email to all the email addresses. By making a list of the ones that bounced, and comparing that list with the full list, I can determine which are still good. This is for a non-profit association -- I am not in the spam business. Knowing exactly which emails bounced would be much easier if I could set up an in box implementing VERP. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_envelope_return_path In other words, I want an in box accepting all mail where the email addresses match a wildcard pattern like this: mail_admin_??????(a)domain.org, where ?????? are 6 digits. The digits would be a scrambled contact ID. Since they will be digits only, here is the regular expression: mail_admin_\d{6}. (We will pick a wildcard pattern that does not conflict with any existing address on the server.) Sending the outgoing emails, each with a different "From" address matching the wildcard pattern, is not a problem -- I have a working python script for this. The challenge is getting one in box to accept emails with different "From" addresses (matching the wildcard pattern). We are running IMAP server Dovecot 1.0.7. How do I set this up in the IMAP server to accept emails to addresses matching the wildcard pattern? Thanks, Rick Graves

I looked into dovecot-1.2.11/src/lib-dict/dict-sql.c, there seems to be a check for "ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE" on line 588. I recompiled dovecot on mysql 4.0 machine and tried again but there was no change. SQL is successful when dataset in quotatable is existing. in this case dovecot triggers an update of the data. But if no line for user is existing in quotatable and an insert is needed there is still the error: sql dict: commit failed: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE bytes='12525'' at line why is the mysql 4.0-recompiled dovecot thinking my mysql is able to do "ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE"? To implement quota followed the documentation of the link http://wiki.dovecot.org/Quota/Dict, did not understand what you mean the field "where_field = path" would be the path on the filesystem of your mailbox? I would have to create the table that he says in the documentation or can I force a value with concat and using the AS (ie select '/var/vmail/domain/user' as path from table) ? [Dovecot] Is it possible to prevent users from ever deleting anything?

Hi, dear dovecot-users, is it possible to make dovecot ignore the DELETE command for some accounts? Basically what I want to achieve is: users shall not be able to delete their emails - but they still should be able write emails. This is meant for a setup where different users are sending and receiving emails for a "support" account. I looked into IMAP virtual folders and ACL but I did not see a way of totally disabling the possibility to delete emails and share the whole account. I realize there may be race conditions with a setup like this and a web based ticket system might be a better solution, but it is only a very small team and we can always talk to each others to resolve conflicts - so using only one mail account for support seems practical and could keep the overhead small - but we do not want to delete anything from it (accidentaly). Of course, at one point in future somebody has to delete some mails from this accounts to get rid of old stuff - so I would like to implement a super-user that is able to do that kind of mailbox maintanance. How would I use ACL to setup such a scenario? Is it even possible? Or did I misunderstand IMAP shared folders completely??? Thank you very much for your attention! Have a nice day, Snaky

This is probably not the best place to ask this question; however, I figured I had to start somewhere. I want to write a sieve script that can sort incoming mail into specific locations. I am new at writing sieve scripts, and have not come up with any way of preventing this from happening. If anyone has a suggestion, I would love to hear it. [Dovecot] Removing Duplicates

Hi all, I am starting fresh with a local repository of mails, which almost certainly have duplicates in them. I am going to use maildirs, and ensure all mails are input with CRLFs. The question is: does anybody know how I can find and remove duplicates, either while injecting mail with IMAP, or afterward? I can use tools to find duplicate Message-IDs, but don't know of a way to remove duplicates in mailboxes that are already imported as opposed to incoming mail. Perhaps there is a way to use the IMAP protocol for this? Cheers, Sabahattin

Hi all, Speaking of Debian, what relative position are the Debian Unstable (Sid) packages in to the latest "Bleeding edge" builds of RCS-based releases from the Wiki? If using Unstable is it recommended to stay or use the newer ones? I'd say it was production, yes, but I'm forgiving of problems in the latest releases, so long as they aren't meant to be beta (i.e., known breakages). Cheers, Sabahattin

Hi all, I have a small problem with the dovecot-antispam plugin. When I try to move a message to my spam folder, I have this error: IMAP4> 149 UID COPY 15 SPAM IMAP4< 149 NO [CANNOT] Failed to call dspam And in the server log file: mail dspam[12339]: Unable to determine the runtime user I'm running dspam 3.9.0 with dovecot+managesieve 1.2.10 and dovecot-antispam git (2010-03-22). Hi, I've been able to configure --with-mysql in Solaris 10 which has MySQL version 4.0.31 bundled in. Since beta4 build fails due to change in src/lib-sql/driver-mysql.c. I've never used this feature but so I don't need it. This is just a FYI if someone reads mailing list. Hello Timo, I'm trying to set up shared mailboxes with dovecot-1.2.11/Maildir. I previsouly used public namespaces with 1.1+ to somehow implement them but I'm looking at the real ones now. I've read the Wiki but I'm still confused or not 100% sure about the following (basic) points : 1. Namespaces prefixes My understanding is that a namespace prefix is just an escape mechanism for the client to access the mailboxes this namespace holds. So the real location is _only_ defined by the "location" directive, independently of what the prefix is. So, for example, If you've got : prefix="foo/bar/" location=maildir:/some/folder/%u mailboxes are physically in /some/folder/%u, not in /foo/bar/some/folder/%u or something am I correct ? 2. Other Users mailboxes RFC234 states that shared mailboxes (which they call "Other Users" mailboxes) are "mailboxes from the Personal Namespaces of other users." Dovecot's Wiki takes as an example : # User's private mail location. mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir # You need to create also a private namespace: namespace private { separator = / prefix = #location defaults to mail_location. inbox = yes } namespace shared { separator = / prefix = shared/%%u/ location = maildir:%%h/Maildir:INDEX=~/Maildir/shared/%%u subscriptions = no list = children } and states : "This creates a shared/ namespace under which each user's mailboxes are." [Dovecot] dovecot-2.0.beta3 tcpwrapper support in Solaris

Hi, 2.0 compiles fine in Solaris but and I've found only one glitch so far. Tcpwapper support needs some tweaks. I need to add CPPFLAGS=/usr/sfw/include because tcpd.h is in there. Then also LDFLAGS='-R/usr/sfw/lib -L/usr/sfw/lib' is needed. It would be nice to have --with-tcpwrap-dir or something. After this linking gives an error Undefined first referenced symbol in file deny_severity /usr/sfw/lib//libwrap.so allow_severity /usr/sfw/lib//libwrap.so These are not defined but application itself should define these globally so I've added these to configure and src/util/tcpwrap.c #include <syslog.h> int allow_severity = LOG_INFO; int deny_severity = LOG_WARNING; Tomppa

[Dovecot] Dovecot 1.2.11 renames Maildir filenames on first read of foreign POPstore - how to avoid

Greetings, I'm converting from a custom POPstore ( > 100,000 messages) which is Maildir-like and uses the filename as the UIDL and doesn't store it inside the message. I'm wondering whether there is hope for config-file options to keep devecot from renaming files when it first sees them, or whether I'm going to need to create a new backend for dovecot based on Maildir. The renaming not only blows my current UIDLs, it seems to upset Dovecot's indexing, Cheers! -sam My POPstore looks like this: /zdata/domain/%d/folders/%n/{cur, new, tmp}/ and message filenames like this: msg.yyyy:mm:dd:hh:mm:ss.random I was able to get Dovecot to see the store by the symlink: INBOX -> . [Dovecot] configure dovecot to read-only ?

Hi, I like to configure the use of IMAP to read-only on a special backup system. Users should only be able to read archived email, they should not be able to create folders or delete email. I know how to configure user- or folder-specific acls, but it seems to be a bit complicated to setup a ACL for every user. Any simple global option available ? [Dovecot] Possible programming error in maildir_mail_get_save_date

The maildir_mail_gate_save_date routine (lib-storage/index/maildir/maildir-mail.c) returns the save date when that was determined by looking at the ctime of the corresponding file. This is different from all other get_save_date routines which either return -1 if the date could not be determined or 0 to signal success. A particular problem caused by this would be that the first_nonexpunged_timestamp routine (plugins/expire/expire-plugin) never finds a not-yet-expired e-mail after the first message in a mailbox has been expunged when using the maildir storage and file ctimes for save dates, causing the expire_mailbox_transaction_commit function (same file) to delete expiry information for the mailbox in question from the expires table despite mails supposed to expire still exist.
