[Dovecot] [BUG] Incorrect maildir quota value after maildirsize creation

I found a problem with maildir++ quota. When dovecot creates maildirsize file, it counts quota wrong. In fact, there are 7 emails (I delete only one of eight emails) which take 14182502 bytes together (deleted email taked 969 bytes): # find cur new -type f | wc -l 7 # find cur new -type f -printf '%s\n' | awk 'END { print a } { a += $0 }' 14182502 I figured, that dovecot after physically file removal, calls function maildir_quota_update(), which calls maildirquota_refresh() first (which in turn recalculate quota with new values), and then calls maildirsize_update(), which additionally and incorrectly decreases quota value. [Dovecot] [PATCH] include parameters can handle globbing

Hey guys, This patch will allow you to include different configuration files in the main dovecot.conf by using globbing [1] (like Apache for instance). !include = conf.d/*.conf !include_try = /etc/dovecot/extra* So with this you can split the dovecot.conf in different smaller configuration files. It's more the debian way to do that. But it's very handy if you have to generate dynamically parts of dovecot.conf based on a centralized main configuration (imagine you have 10 servers and you want to change the default quota for instance, do a script which update that based on the data contained in SQL/LDAP/XML/whatever). I designed this for my personal use with dovecot 1.2.1. It does the job. But I warn you :) My code may hurt your eyes. If so either close them or improve/fix my code or ... "Hare Krishna" [2] :) The include features has been done and almost kept hidden by Timo :) I've just add the globbing feature to !include and !include_try. The patch will modify - src/lib-settings/settings.c - dovecot-example.conf $ cd dovecot-1.2.1 $ patch -p1 < includepatch.diff It has been test with GNU/Linux Debian dunno if it compiles on FreeBSD/AIX/MacOSX but everything is POSIX compliant so... it should :) Cheers, Thomas [1]: Thanks Aria for the tip about the glob() function. Hello! I'm try to build additional 2 private namespaces namespace private { prefix = 1/ #location = ~/mail/1 list = yes subscriptions = yes } namespace private { prefix = 2/ #location = ~/mail/2 list = yes subscriptions = yes } First private namespace contains inbox and mail_location not defined (selects in sql query in userdb). Is dovecot have variable which contains current mail_location like current home? And if i have location = ~/mail/2 and subscrive to namespace in my mail client - i have error like mailbox does not exists. [Dovecot] Newbie: unable to access mailbox more than once

Hello, I'm using dovecot as a mail relay so that I can back up my providers IMAP mail locally. I'm impressed how easy this was to set up, but I'm having a quirk that I would like help with, if possible. There are many weak links in my set-up chain, if you will, but I think I've narrowed the problem. I'll describe my set-up anyway. I'm running dovecot 1.1.4 on ubuntu 8.10. I have a shared NAS drive running a NFS server. I have chosen to store the .indexes and .control directories on the NAS also, since I want a set-up that will remain backed up and easily replicated if I (accidentally) erase the ubuntu install in the future. I'm using imapsync to copy messages from my email provider. It works once only, and subsequent attempts seem to hang when accessing any local dovecot mailbox folders that were changed last time. I have succeeded in using Thunderbird to access the dovecot mailboxes once. I know the paths are being found, because I can 'list' mailboxes when I telnet locally: b list "" * * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "." "Trash" * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "." However, I attached a trace to the 'imap' process and got something interesting. I think maybe the lock process is failing for some reason? Hello, I am using dovecot 1.1.13 in debian lenny with exim4 and I have Outlook 2007 clients. I have configured lazy expunge plugin. User marks messages in INBOX for deletion then click "delete messages from server" then the messages are moved to .EXPUNGED folder which is correct but they are still marked with IMAP deleted flag which is bad cause when user marks another messages in INBOX for deletion and click again on "delete messages from server" the messages which were in .EXPUNGE are gone forever. Is there any possibility to change this behavior i.e. instead from: move messages tagged for deletion to .EXPUNGE folder to: move messages tagged for deletion to .EXPUNGE folder and UNSET deleted flag ? Hi, I'm new to Dovecot 1.2 and I'd like to replace uw-imap. I'd like to have the following setup: - Personal mailboxes using maildir for all users (no problem) - Public mailboxes for certain people who are in special groups from /etc/group localed in /var/spool/public as a maildir with subfolders for each group (which should only be visible for that group and also secured by filesystem group permissions). At best those folders should be visible for the users below "shared"-folder or parallel to the inbox. The public mailboxes should be secured by custom ACLs (so that not all ppl. can create new folders and so on). How can I make Dovecot authenticate against pam and use groups in /etc/group? When I activate the ACL plugin all public or shared mailboxes are hidden. How can I avoid this for the public mailboxes? Thanks in advance. Sven

[Dovecot] Search fails on underscores in quoted-printable

Hi folks, currently I'm running Dovecot 1.2.1. Compiled from source on Fedora 10 Linux 32 Bit (all patches). Clients are Pine 4.64, Thunderbird 2.0.0.22 and Mutt 1.5.20 (using "=b" for server-side searching). When a message contains the text "under_score" and I let the server search for it, Dovecot does not find it in messages with a Content-Transfer-Encoding of "quoted-printable". It works perfectly well with messages without Content-Transfer-Encoding. If I replace the underscore with a space (search for "under score"), it magically matches on "under_score" (no space but underscore). Looks like something goes wrong with the encoding/decoding of quoted-printable (sorry, haven't tried with base64). Hello, My "exim" is doing the deliveries, "dovecot" handles POP/IMAP. Hi! I'm in the progress of upgrading from Dovecot 1.0.15 to 1.2.1. This has gone pretty smooth. I just have one question to check wether I have understood the documentation right. I have both system users and virtual users. That's easy to do when using LDAP for userdb. The system users use filesystems quota, the virtual users use maildir quota. I achieved this using the following in LDAP: "fs:" (for system users, obviously) and "maildir:storage=2048000" for virtual users. This has worked fine for years. But after reading the documentation, it seems I now have to use two ldap-fields to achieve the same thing? One "quota" and one "quota_rule"? Is this correct? It's of course not impossible, but it's kinda a hassle to hand craft a new schema, deploy, and update all the user's entries. If my users didn't have two kind of quotas, it would be easy, but with two quota methods, I don't see any other way than to use two ldap-fields. Which I hope I don't have to :) Thanks. Hi, I'm always surprised when I see output from configure like checking for really_not_needed.h... no The configure script is always 'checking sasl.h usability' even when the --without-ldap option was specified. The attached patch checks the presence of sasl.h / sasl/sasl.h only when using the --with-ldap option && all required LDAP headers and libs are available. [Dovecot] Several errors

Hi, Running OS: CentOS 5.3 (2.6.18-128.2.1.el5) 1. My Linux distribution comes with Dovecot 1.0.7. After trying to make it running, I encoutnered many problems. So I decided to upgrade to 1.2.1. When running dovecot -r from CLI, it returns with version 1.2.1. But at the top of the log file it says: Info: Dovecot v1.0.7 starting up So I am not sure which version I am running. That's the first problem. The other two problems I am having were also actual before updating to 1.2.1: 2. Some time ago I added the ability for IMAP clients to fetch messages' GUIDs using FETCH X-GUID command. Because of a bug it wasn't working in 1.2.0 or 1.2.1, but I've fixed it now. But now I'm starting to wonder: With Maildirs the GUIDs are the maildir base filenames, which contain host names. Is it a bad idea to expose them to users?

[Dovecot] Maildir from offlineimap, INBOX folder created

Hi, I'm using dovecot to serve up a Maildir created/served by offlineimap. The layout is typical (as far as I know) of maildirs, with the root folder having cur, tmp, new, and subfolders being a folder within the root folder. Since I'd previously used Evolution to access this maildir, my subfolders were actual subfolders (separator /). Anyway, it all works spiffingly well, except that I can't see my inbox at all. What happens is that attempting to subscribe to Inbox will create an INBOX folder in the root folder, which is (of course) empty, so I see an empty folder. Hi, I'm using version 1.2.1 with acl. How do I use acl_shared_dict? Especially with file:-dictionary. What's the layout of that file? Is it possible that the file is ignored with the current version? If the file doesn't exist or isn't readable, I don' get any error message. Best regards, Sven

Hello Dovecot users, Relatively many bugs and problems were reported recently in a short period of time. Apparently, now that Dovecot v1.2 is finally stable, the new Sieve plugin is also starting to get used much more. No known bugs remain. Let's hope I didn't spawn any new ones. Apart from the bugfixes I made the deprecated notify plugin implementation compatible with CMUSieve. You can use it, but keep in mind that the (rather stupid) denotify command is not (yet) implemented and that the $text$ substitution does not work (yes, there is a world of differences compared to enotify). Changelog Sieve v0.1.9: * Removed the unfinished sieve-filter tool from the default build. It is now only built when the --with-unfinished-features switch is supplied during configure. + Started building support for the ereject version of the reject action, which has a preference to use an SMTP/LMTP protocol error in stead of a bounce message. This is to be used to make the Sieve plugin honour Deliver's -e parameter. This is not yet finished and not built by default. + Improved 'Permission denied' error messages just like Dovecot does, precisely specifying what permission is missing to access or create a file. + Added additional headers to the list of allowed headers for the address test. The restrictive nature of the address test is not always appropriate. Still thinking of a better, less restrictive implementation. + Made the deprecated notify extension compatible with the old CMUSieve plugin. However, the denotify command and the $text$ substitution are not yet supported. + Made the discard action log a message to avoid confusion about disappearing messages. - Fixed behavior of fileinto when delivering into a namespace prefix. It now uses silent delivery into INBOX as fallback. - Fixed logging of folder namespace prefix upon delivery into a prefixed namespace. Formerly it only logged the bare folder name. - Fixed a potential segfault in the argument validation. It didn't surface because no command could have a :tag followed by an associated parameter as last argument. - Fixed segfault bug occuring in envelope test when performed on null (<>) envelope path. The fix involves a rather large restructuring of the code to make sure envelope addresses are properly handled everywhere (bug reported by Nikita Koshikov) - Envelope: fixed bug in application of address parts; failure to obtain the part would cause inappropriate match success (bug reported by Ron Lee) - Fixed extension conflict checks during validation. It could sometimes produce useless errormessages. [Dovecot] Compiling Dovecot

I'm attempting to compile Dovecot 1.2.1 from source with support for ManageSieve, with little success. ./configure seems to complete successfully, but make fails with the message: make: *** No targets. Stop. I checked the Makefile, and it's empty. I run into the same problem no matter the configure options, with or without the managesieve patch applied, and even with earlier versions (I also tried 1.2.0 and 1.1.17 just to see if it would work, but no go). I've had no problems compiling other software, so I'm at a bit of a loss here. Any thoughts?

[Dovecot] PAM_USER falsely assumed immutable

In 1.2.1 there's: passdb-pam.c:230 status = pam_get_item(pamh, PAM_USER, &item); passdb-pam.c:237 auth_request_set_field(request, "user", item, NULL); so "item" is PAM_USER, which is then checked by auth_request_set_field: 1022 if (strcmp(request->user, value) != 0) { 1023 auth_request_log_debug(request, "auth", 1024 "username changed %s -> %s", 1025 request->user, value); that it hasn't changed. You're not allowed to assume that PAM_USER doesn't change. See, for example, http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/libs/pam/Linux-PAM-html/adg-security-user-i… to say nothing of the fact that Rutgers has PAM modules that do exactly that (change PAM_USER). This check needs to be relaxed (or, perhaps if you want a config directive for DontComplyWithThePAMSpec = true, you can have a tunable). Can this be as simple as ditching the call to auth_request_set_field, or is there concern over interactions between PAM and other auth features?

[Dovecot] Defunct processes w/ v1.2.1

I have limited information at the moment (currently distracted by other projects) but I'm hoping that someone has already found and solved this problem. I have a v1.2.1 installed on my development box waiting for me to tinker with the configuration. On several occasions, I have noticed that all the dovecot processes are listed as "defunct". I don't recall seeing anything significant in the logs the last time I checked. The system is not under any load. Has anyone else encountered this before? If not, I will dig deeper.
