[Dovecot] Folder renaming oddities.

Hi Timo, We are observing some weird behaviour when we try to rename an inferior folder, followed by the superior folder. These folders have an asterisk in the name. * LIST (\HasChildren) "." [Dovecot] Dovecot + OCFS2

Hello, We are running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 4) with OCFS2 for our mail servers. There are three nodes in the cluster with shared storage and OCFS2 filesystem on it. The filesystem is used for mail storage(using Maildir layout) and is accessed by smtpd, pop3 and imap processes(DOVECOT). The system works fine but when there are mailing lists the load increases dramatically. It only occurs when there are mailing lists. We have tested it in lab with good results and now in production we are having some load problems caused by dovecot´s deliver process. In lab we had sent lots of mails but always to a few accounts. It was OK. Now there are sent less mails but there are more accounts. The load increases until it reaches about 100 and only restart fixes the problem. The umounting of the OCFS2 filesystem is not possible even when all process accessing it are killed. Any suggestions? TIA Info: Three nodes. [Dovecot] Subscribe to root of Maildir namespace?

Our users currently make use of a single namespace, mbox format: namespace private { separator = / prefix = hidden = no inbox = yes location = mbox:~/:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u:INDEX=/var/spool/poptemp/dovecot/%u } I'd like to give them access to additional Maildir-format storage area, so to the above I've added: namespace private { separator = / prefix = archive/ hidden = no location = maildir:/newmail/%-3.3i/%u/:INDEX=/var/spool/poptemp/dovecot/%u.a-thumper-mail } I can set up subfolders of archive/, and they work as expected. I can also designate the "root" of archive/ as INBOX and that works properly. But "SUBSCRIBE archive" fails. Is it possible to subscribe to the "root" of this new Maildir heirarchy as if it were just another folder? If not, would this be a useful feature to add? [Dovecot] problematic ACL with shared folders and maildir

Hello, Recently we have been asked to deploy some shared imap folders within our instance of dovecot. However, we ran into a problem with how ACLs are implemented, and consequences regarding maildir++ mailboxes. Long story short: * IMAP clients sees the hierarchy as a tree: sample/1, where 1 is a child of sample * on the filesystem, sample/1 is represented as .sample and .sample.1, both on the same level This presents a problem: dovecot-acl file meant for sample mailbox does not apply to mailbox 1. In fact, a user with permissions to create mailboxes under sample, will not be able to access those mailboxes, once created. Wonder if anybody has been in a similar predicament, and found a solution. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. I did find something new (or I have not noticed it before) If you kill (not just restart) the Dovecot process itself and restart it with existing connections (someone was connected to IMAPS when you killed Dovecot) Dovecot will not restart, complaining that port 993 is taken already. This happens regardless of the shutdown_clients = yes/no setting. This may be particular to the new version 1.1, I do not know. > Jerry

[Dovecot] Compiling drac.c on a 64 bit system

I have just installed dovecot and want to set up the drac interface. However, when I compile drac.c I get the following link errors; anybody know what the right compile options are for a 64 bit system? [Dovecot] Deliver prints passwort to the syslog

Hi, I've got the problem that dovecot's deliver prints the authentification information to the syslog. [Dovecot] UIDL and IMAP

I finally got my aging FC2 box retired and moved all email to my new CentOS 5 box. My site is all-IMAP, no POP3. I have one user who downloads all email to Thunderbird on his laptop so that he can work offline while away from a network connection (eg. on an airplane). I forgot to change the pop3_uidl_format setting as described here: <http://wiki.dovecot.org/Upgrading/1.0> So he was seeing repeated downloads of all his mail (about 300 MBytes) every time he connected. (I'm not sure why it didn't happen only the first time.) I changed the setting and haven't heard back whether if fixed things for him. Does this setting in fact get used by IMAP? It's in the POP3 section, so I'm wondering if it takes effect when one is using IMAP from the client. CentOS 5 is currently shipping with: dovecot-1.0-1.2.rc15.el5 I may look for a newer release. CentOS, based on RHEL, is intended to be a conservative distro, so I'll probably need to look at RPMForge (an addon repository of more exotic and bleeding edge software) to see if it offers a newer release.

[Dovecot] Dovceot user pop3 last connect info?

Dovecot experts, I am a newbie to Dovecot. I am in the process of replacing qpopper with dovecot to support pop 3 clients. I have installed the latest version of Dovecot on Fedora Core 6. Everything seems to be working fine using ldap, etc. However, with qpopper, I used to have .pop.username files which would give me a time stamp of the last time a user established a pop3 connection. I know that Dovecot has logs of connection in the /var/log/maillog files, but these files rotate out over a relatively short period of time. [Dovecot] Disable imap proxy access

I work on a dovecot cluster (15 servers) we need to add a new storage array and move the data for a list of user from the old storage to the new one. We use dovecot proxy to redirect imap and pop3 to the same server everytime. How to disable pop3 and imap access during the data migration process (duration 5 minutes to 10 minutes). Good Day All! I am attempting to configure deliver as our LDA. I am also configuring the server to use Postfix instead of Sendmail. I'm doing in-site migration of accounts from /etc/passwd to an LDAP directory. The migration should be progressive (not all users at the same time). I'm already able to check mail for accounts in /etc/passwd and accounts in LDAP. The problem is with mail delivery. I'm using Postfix + Dovecot-LDA. Sparked from the discussion on the list, I've put my antispam plugin into git and split up the code into a frontend and possibly multiple backends. See http://git.sipsolutions.net/dovecot-antispam.git/ (URL functions as both gitweb and git URL) Andreas, I took your README file and adjusted it, I hope you don't mind. I didn't fork from your git tree because you'd already implemented the libdspam backend there. Maybe you could take a look at the new backend/frontend separation and implement a libdspam backend. Aria, it should be possible to write a spamassassin plugin, quite easily if spamassassin supports training based on signatures, not quite so easily otherwise though I intend to plan this. Timothy, you could write the mysql logger as a backend too. I take patches :) Oh and as always thanks to Timo for implementing such a nice server and string, memory and mail handling API. johannes

I am trying to get a SPEC file for an RPM to build a devel package. I have it working, except for one thing. 1.0.5 doesn't actually install the headers with that option to configure found in the subject. It does create the directory, but it doesn't put the files there. Timo, is this a known/unknown bug, or am I doing something stupid? Thanks, Trever

Hello, Occasionally, I get mail that's missing a Date header. The usual suspects are iTunes weekly mailings and NYTimes email-to-a-friend articles. I use qmail, which doesn't "fix" these malformed emails by adding a Date header (like Sendmail does), so when they get to my mailbox, they're just as badly formed as they were when they were sent, which is to say, they have no Date header. Unfortunately, this means that SORT (DATE) puts them at the beginning of the list---and in a mailbox with lots of old mail, that's usually the wrong spot. Now, my email clients will do some basic guesswork about when the message was sent, usually by falling back on the timestamp of the first-added Received header. So, they will display a date. But they have to then sort all messages themselves in order to get a valid sorting. Would it be possible to get Dovecot to fall back to Received header parsing whenever a message is missing a Date header? The idea is that SORT (DATE) would then become useful even in the face of commonly malformed email. How hard would this be to hack into the current Dovecot source? I'm running dovecot on my desktop with kmail as IMAP client on my laptop. When I start kmail on the laptop it sometimes takes several minutes to "calm down". The number of messages listed in the IMAP inbox increases greatly - maybe from 2500 to 3000 - and then slowly decreases. There are sometimes a large number of duplicate messages, which kmail allows one to delete. I don't know if this is a kmail or dovecot problem. It is quite likely there is something wrong in my setup. Any suggestions or advice gratefully received.

Hi, I'm running version 1.0.3 of dovecot using IMAP and using javamail to access the mail. The application I'm using (when stress testing the system by doing simultaious creation of email and deleting emails, it sometimes get into the state where the application (via javamail) ask for the UID of a message that has been expunged and deleted (no longer exists). Dovecot returns with the following error: AXXX FETCH 14 (UID) AXXX BAD Error in IMAP command FETCH: Invalid messageset This can easily be reproduced by using telnet to 143 and giving the command by hand. When I read through the source code, there were obvious comments that states the dovecot will not return NO on fetch errors, only BAD. So I assume it is done on purpose. My question is that in RFC 3501 for fetch it says: (section 6.4.5) Result: OK - fetch completed NO - fetch error: can't fetch that data BAD - command unknown or arguments invalid No I guess a UID that is out of range could be considered "arguments invalid", but shouldn't it be a soft error with NO as a result where "can't fetch that data" is more appropriate according the the RFC. The command isn't syntactically BAD, the requested data just does not exists. The same command tested against another IMAP server returns AXXX NO message not available Not that they are necessarily correct, but it just begs the question. Hi to all, very strange! I tried to debug why imap process takes 100% CPu and it is very slow when I move an email from an imap folder to another imap folder and then I typed: strace -tt -o /log-imap.txt -p <process number> well, during the trace the imap process doesn't crash and it is very fast. If I stop the tracing, I have again the problem and sometimes the crash of the process. Any help? [Dovecot] plugin problem

I'm trying to do a rewrite of the dspam_plugin for dovecot 1.1b1. There are some API changes that warranted an update of the plugin. Also, I wanted the dspam_plugin to be able to handle pristine mails for dspam retraining, as opposed to the signature based retraining. Question: How can I retrieve the full unix path for a specific mail? The original code uses mail_get_first_header() to retrieve the signature header. I need something like mail_get_mail_file_path(&path) which I then could pass on to dspam. Is there some such function available? Thanks in advance /Lars
