[Dovecot] Dovecot 1.0.3: mbox problems for newly created users

Hi, I am having problems with Dovecot 1.0.3 and Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 when using a new user account without any mbox files present. Directory /home/$user/.imap_mail/ does not exist when Thunderbird first tries to login using IMAP to the account. On login this directory is created with a zero byte Trash file and .subscriptions containing string "Trash", so far, so good. Now I create a new message in Thunderbird and save it as draft. A zero byte file "Drafts" is created in /home/$user/.imap_mail/ but the message I wanted to save got _lost_, /home/$user/.imap_mail/Drafts stays at zero bytes. The next message I try to save as draft finds its way to the Drafts mbox however. Please note that no /home/$user/.imap_mail/inbox has been created although a inbox is shown in Thunderbird. When I move the saved message from Drafts to the inbox folder shown in Thunderbird, it gets saved in /var/mail/$user instead of /home/$user/.imap_mail/inbox, I guess this is due to the use of the mbox_snarf plugin, right? /home/$user/.imap_mail/inbox is the maildrop for Exim, which handles incoming mails, but in this scenario the user did not receive any emails yet. If I manually create /home/$user/.imap_mail/inbox, then moving a message from Drafts to the Thunderbird-displayed inbox works. How to fix this problem? Especially messages getting lost is really bad because I am in the process of changing our mail server setup from Exim/UW-Imapd to Exim/Dovecot, where I have to move 100+ /var/mail/$user mbox files to /home/$user/.imap_mail/inbox. But when Dovecot can not properly save files to previous non-existing mbox files, like Drafts, this is really a problem. [Dovecot] IP based virtual users: stripping login domain?

Hello. I have a likely unusual request regarding IP based virtual dovecot users. When you specify a passdb passwd-file name containing "%d", then the domain portion is stripped from the login username, before the user is checked in the passwd-file. However, if you specify a passwd-file name containing "%l" (the local IP), the domain portion of the login is not stripped off before the username is checked in the passwd-file. This behavior makes sense, and should be considered the right and proper thing to do. But in this case, I want to do something different anyway. In the setup I'm working on, most logins will use domain based virtual usernames. However, if a customer logs in with an unknown domain in their login username, I'd like to fall back to IP-based virtualization, based on the local IP they connect to. I can't use auth_username_format to strip off %d, because that would break the domain based virtualization. What I need is an option to make %l work the way %d already works; or a format inside a passwd-file which allows for partial matches in the "username" column. If I can do this directly using a passwd-file, I'd like to do that. It seems like it'd be easy if I were using an SQL back end, but that's not an option. It's possible with an external authentication script, but I want to explore more direct configuration options, first. Does anyone have any recommendations? If what I want can't already be done, and I patched dovecot to do one of these things, how likely would it be to have that patch merged into the project? Hello, I am trying to migrate our configuration that use Courier-imap to dovecot, appart some users that have some issues with pop and leave messages on servers that retreive all mails into their mailboes... but this is ok for me :).. One problem that it seems that Sent / Drafts and Trash folder are not automaticaly added as subscribed folder... I also finally did some larger API changes and code cleanups that I had been planning on doing for a long time. I also changed copyright notices in the code to: /* Copyright (c) xxxx-2007 Dovecot authors, see the included COPYING file */ So my name isn't there anymore. It wasn't always correct anyway. I'm planning on updating the -2007 year at the beginning of each year to all the files. It's annoying to try to keep it updated manually.

[Dovecot] Dovecot stops talking to the auth server.

Hi, I have an RHEL4 machine running dovecot-1.0.3 + postfix-2.3.2 + postfixadmin + mysql-4.1.20-2.RHEL4.1 + amavisd-new-2.5.2-1. The machine only has a gig of memory in it, I am trying to keep it running until I get new hardware to replace it in a couple of weeks. For the most part it works as advertised but every once in a while it stops talking to the auth server. I think I have tracked this to periods of high auth requests. I just transferred the files in my home directory from an x86_64 machine to an i686 machine. This included the .dovecot.sieve and .dovecot.sievec files in my home root, and the Dovecot index files in my ~/Maildir directory. Everything seemed to be working until I tried sending an email that triggers a Sieve "redirect" command, then I got the following in the logs. I then tried the same dovecot.sieve file using a separate account which has always been on the i686 machine (and the index files have always been written there too), and the Sieve "redirect" worked fine. [Dovecot] Dovecot Periodically Stops Authenticating Users

Hi, It seems that my dovecot installation periodically stops authenticating users. Restarting dovecot resolves the issue temporarily. I'm authenticating via PAM to OpenLDAP on a CentOS 4 box. I've seen several related posts about this issue but no resolution. [Dovecot] Migration woes from tpop mbox to dovecot maildir

I was hoping some one might be able to offer me some advice on a little problem I have. I am looking to A. move from mbox to maildir B. looking to move from tpop to dovecot to bring both pop and imap under the same program. anyways the problem I am having is this tpop3d mbox uses MD5 sum of the mailbox headers in hex which is option %m in the uidl section but the problem is when dovecot convert plugin runs and makes in a maildir it fails to find the md5 of this because it is only used for mboxs. if I change this from %m to %Mf it downloads every message on the clients computer which is not desirable. Instead fsck is run which preserves as much of the original index as possible. This is important with dbox at least since index files are the only place where the latest flag/keyword changes are. Recent alphas were also modifying process's fd limits. The current behavior is: - If current fd limit is less than login_max_processes_count (imap +pop3) + max_mail_processes, log a warning at startup: "fd limit 1024 is lower than what Dovecot can use under full load (more than 1234). Either grow the limit or change login_max_processes_count and max_mail_processes settings" - Since 1024 is a common default limit, I dropped max_mail_processes default to 512. - Login processes drop their fd limit to the maximum number of fds needed, plus a few more just in case.

[Dovecot] Proxy problems with 1.0.5 !

Hi I am trying to do a staged migration over to dovecot, but having troubles at the first hurdle. I setup the proxy feature to redirect most of our users back to the current Courier imap/pop server, and it's partly working, but I'm getting some serious errors using Thunderbird and IMAP. Now, I had expected the proxying to be fairly transparent and basically just dovecot doing an auth and then passing the stream on to the other server? My problem is that using Thunderbird I can read all my folders OK, but I can't save anything in my Sent Items or Drafts folders... Basically I get errors every time I try and send an email, or try to save to the draft folder. Curiously, directly browsing into those folders works fine, as does deleting emails, and apparently copying them works fine also... Why is the saving of sent messages failing...? The setup is basically taking a working Thunderbird install, changing the server name from pointing at the Courier server to point at the dovecot server - dovecot in turn is told to proxy back to the original server. All I'm getting from Thunderbird is an "Invalid Command" response. Is there an easy way to get a look inside the imap stream to try and see what's failing? Any suggestions on why this is happening at all? One idea is that I have setup completely different namespaces in Dovecot, (with a hidden namespace which should be courier compatible), but I wouldn't have expected this to affect the Proxy stuff at all?! [Dovecot] auth_default_realm for different listeners

We provide POP3 service for several realms, each of which has a substantial number of users logging in with no realm (bare username). We would like to use Dovecot, but I haven't been able to findout how to vary auth_default_realm for each listener. My most recent attempt was to set up one auth {} block for each realm with a different auth_default_realm and socket master path. I then set up one protocol pop3 {} block for each realm, listening on different IP addresses and with a auth_socket_path corresponding to the auth block for that listener. I'm not sure if I'm on the right track here, but I'm seeing two problems: 1. [Dovecot] namespace prefix issue with avelsieve

Hi! I am currently testing a setup with dovecot's lda, the cmusieve plugin, pysieved and the avelsieve plugin for squirrelmail. The issue I am stumbling upon is that avelsieve is generating folder names including the namespace prefix when creating "fileinto" rules. E.g.: A rule: If the header "Precedence" contains "bulk", then file it into the folder INBOX.bulk. Also keep a copy in INBOX, marked as deleted. translates into sieve: require ["fileinto","reject","vacation","imapflags","relational","comparator-i;ascii-numeric","regex","notify"]; if header :contains "Precedence" "bulk" { fileinto "INBOX.bulk"; addflag "\\Deleted"; keep; } But what happens when a matching email is delivered is that a new mailbox ".INBOX.bulk" in the user's Maildir is created. I.e. the email is not delivered to ~/.Maildir/.bulk as intended, but into ~/.Maildir/.INBOX.bulk, creating the new folder on the fly. The same happens when trying to fileinto folders from other namespaces. It seems that either avelsieve is generating "too much" and should remove the prefix (at least for INBOX) or dovecot's deliver is not able to use the namespaces definition in dovecot.conf correctly when interpreting sieve's fileinto directive. Did I miss something? hi all, after i successed in install / configure dovecot, and transform mbox to maildir i got error in outlook expres. outlook expres is authenticated . dovecot accep user/passwd. when i try to receive folder list is giving me error: "downloading folder from server.ro" "one or more problems occurred downloading your list of folders from your account. The folder list may be inaccurate." any ideea? thanks.
