[Dovecot] problem with dovecot and thunderbird while deleting

Hello! I have very strange problem with dovecot and thunderbird while deleting messages. The problem is that they are not actually deleted from storage filesystem and if I later run mutt I can perfectly see them, though marked with 'D', so mutt ask to delete them on exit and this time they dissapear from filesystem. I enabled in thunderbird 'remove it iimediately' feature, but this doesn't help. When I delete message from mutt it removed from filesystem just fine. IMAP server: OS: FreeBSD 6.1p2 dovecot: dovecot-1.0.b9 Client: OS: Debian sarge Thunderbird: thunderbird 1.5.0.4 (from backports.org) Any suggestions ?

[Dovecot] Squirrel mail search tool fails

When I do a search in squirrelmail, it will start giving several results, but then fails. I use squirrelmail via https. maillog reveils: file message-body-search.c: line 391 (message_body_search_ctx): assertion failed: (input->v_offset <= part->physical_pos) Squirrel mail browser interface reveils: ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server. I just cut-over to CentOS4.3 (fresh install) from FC1 and this is the first bug which I have never seen before. Never have used Dovecot before. Hi guys, I've run into a strange problem using beta 8 and beta 9 when using the latest version of Horde/IMP Through IMP, I can see that there are messages in the maildir on the sidemenu(popup menu) but the emails don't show in my actual inbox. I thought this was an IMP problem, but then I downgraded to dovecot 99 series RPM and this resolved the problem. I was seeing the following error in my logs, when I tried to log into a mailbox through IMP. Hello, I recently converted my 300+ email user system over to Dovecot. It is working fantastically, except for UID sync errors. I read everything I could find and only saw others with those problems in version 0.99 below. My log shows errors like this all day long for pretty much all users: dovecot: Jun 25 19:12:46 Error: POP3(nmichel): Maildir /home/rtb/users/nmichel/.Maildir sync: UID < next_uid (42 < 43, file = msg.oP8c:2,) dovecot: Jun 25 19:25:59 Error: IMAP(lcrowe): Maildir /home/dentist/users/lcrowe/.Maildir sync: UID inserted in the middle of mailbox (70 > 4, file = msg.AM81:2,) When this happens, IMAP and POP3 drop the connections sending errors to their clients. I use squirrelmail over IMAP and some new emails never appear until I delete the index files. I have tried deleting indexes, and the problem continued. I went from dovecot-1.0.beta3 to dovecot-1.0.beta9 and still happens. The only way it doesn't happen is when I append the INDEX=MEMORY trick as in: default_mail_env = maildir:~/.Maildir:INDEX=MEMORY but then it's all so slow for large mailboxes, it's painful. Here are some of my specs: Linux kernel 2.6.15 Maildir Auth from /etc/shadow Users from /etc/passwd Does anyone have any hints on where I should start? Thanks in advance. I love Dovecot. Hello. This isn't actually a dovecot question, but I'm running in clienys servers dovecot mostly as pop3 server and now started to migrate some servers to imap. But as clients uses Outlook Express how to transfer their pop3 settings and mailboxes to imap?. Making a new mail account for imap is easy, and drag & drop the default folders (inbox, outbox etc) messages to imap accounts default folders is easy, but what about subfolders? Some users have hundreds subfolders and creating them & transfering messages by hand is a pain. So have anyone a better and faster solution how to migrate Outlook Express pop3 account to the imap account, preserving the same folders, rules etc. -- Sysadmin

I've included a patch file for quota-fs.c <sys/quota.h> on RHEL 3 sets _LINUX_QUOTA_VERSION to 1 if it's not defined by default. I copied <sys/quota.h> to ./sysquota.h and edited it to set _LINUX_QUOTA_VERSION to 2 if not defined since that's the version i'm using on my machine. I don't know if that's necessarily appropriate so I'm not including that file. (I then modified quota-fs.h to load "sysquota.h" instead of <sys/quota.h>) I was able to get it to compile and properly show the quota information now. I'd like to do more testing (like seeing if explicitly setting _LINUX_QUOTA_VERSION to 2 is really necesssary) but my one and only RHEL 3 machine is my production mail server, so I can't really do that. And file rebuild but still ssl doesn't work. I try # /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/ssl-build-param /usr/local/etc/dovecot-ssl-parameters.dat SSL parameters regeneration completed And ssl doesn't work and I still get message Waiting for SSL parameter file /usr/local/etc/dovecot-ssl-parameters.dat I do not know what to do. I have another server with 1.0.beta8 and ssl work fine.

Hi Timo&all, a recent change in the sql drivers introduced escaping, but sqlite is a different in this aspect: You cannot escape with a backslash, the only character that needs escaping is the quoting character itself (by doubling it, as the SQL standard says). As the escaping function does not know which quote character is used, one should only use the single tick ' (again, as the SQL standard says) and the escaping function double any single quote in the string. (untested) patch for the latter attached. Hi, today I have built dovecot from cvs sources, and upgraded server from beta-7 to this newer version. Then i got problems with opening INBOX using thunderbird 1.5.0.2. Timo - The only behavior change that I notice is that when I exit the telnet session the truss also exits. Previously, the truss hung around until I did the "pkill dovecot", after exiting the telnet session. So, that's weird. But, hold on! I have just upgraded from courier to dovecot and things seem to be working okay (after a few problems getting shared folders working correctly). During the early Dovecot LDA brainstorming discussions, there was some talk about the possibility of including an LMTP interface, and I've noticed that there's an "is it needed?" question about LMTP in Dovecot's TODO file. I'd like to put in a vote for LMTP, and I'm wondering if anyone else has a need for it. Specifically, I'd love an LMTP-enabled LDA that uses hard links when when delivering the same message to multiple recipients (I'm thinking Maildir files), as it would be a nice way to facilitate so-called Single Instance Storage. [Dovecot] imap - mailbox in an inconsistant state

Can anyone help me with this issue? The CEO of our company keeps getting IMAP time out errors and "mailbox is in an inconsistent state" messages. He uses Outlook 2003. There are errors on the server side. This is what it says: "Jun 19 08:08:34 burmail imap(ed): Corrupted binary tree file /home/ed/mail/.imap/INBOX/.imap.index.tree: UID to be inserted isn't hi gher than existing (2 <= 504)" Can someone tell me what that means?? I have been assigned to take over for a departed sys admin and have never used or administered Dovecot before. Thank You! Patrick

hello The homedirectories are stored as a relative path in my userdb One problem ocoures with rawlog: rawloging occures only if a directory $HOME/dovecot.rawlog exist. this is checked with lstat for me $HOME is always "username/". Hi I've been reading a lot, but I think I'am confused about namespaces. We are planning a migration of our pshychical mail storage. This will mean that subfolders are moving from /home to /var/spool/mail. I was thinking, for the migrations of creating a realm. I would like that if a user logs in with his username, the old location is used, if the user logs in with username@REALM, the subfolders are to be searched in the new location, is this possible? Can I use a different mail location per realm? thx in advance Arne

We have just one reoccuring problem: When using thunderbird as the imap client sometimes when messages are moved from the inbox to other folders (including Trash) they shortly thereafter reappear in the inbox - this can happen multiple times to the same message. We have multiple namespaces set up so that inbox is mbox format in ~/.poffice/username and other folders are maildir in ~/Maildir - both of these are on NFS. Indexes are on local storage. The problem only seems to happen with thunderbird. kmail, mac mail, outlook, pine all work fine. If we effectively move a user so that their inbox is also maildir then the problem doesn't happen. The inbox being mbox format is for historic reasons and medium to long term this should change to maildir but in the interim can anyone see anything different that thunderbird does to other imap clients that might be tickling an underlying bug? cheers mark

Hi folks. I'm using evolution 2.2.3 on Fedora Core 4 with simap to dovecot 1.0beta9. I had the same problem with dovecot 1.0alpha1. The problem is that I can't seem to subscribe to any folders. Nor can I seem to get this combination to list all of my folders. I'd be fine with either. It used to be, that if I just toggled "show only subscribed folders" a few times, I'd start getting folders, but not anymore. Of course, sometimes the behavior would be the opposite of what I'd selected, but I wasn't too worried about that. Any suggestions? Thanks!

[Dovecot] maildir++ Quotas - bizarre behavior.

Hi Timo et al. I've been trying to track down why Dovecot recalculations of maildirsize are so wildly different (lower) than what Maildrop comes up with. I think I've found some bizarre behavior in Dovecot -- this is in beta9 as well as CVS from yesterday. It appears Dovecot isn't looking at /Maildir/cur ... /Maildir/new and /Maildir/tmp. It is, however, looking at /Maildir/.Drafts, /Maildir/.Sent, and /Maildir/.Trash. None of these folders contain any messages, but Dovecot seems to count the existence of . and .. as message files. Worse, it's coming up with actual usage data for these empty (of messages) folders. Presumably it's counting the log and cache files. I've attached a diff to quota-maildir.c which will enable some verbose logging. Also attached is a ls -lR of the Maildir in question as well as the output of the aforementioned debugging. Please help. Steve

I've just configured a new Suse Linux 10.1 distribution that comes with: - postfix 2.2.9 + mysql tables - dovecot 1.0.beta3 - mysql 5.0.18 - kernel 2.6.16.13-4-bigsmp i386 on a Intel Xeon 2.0Ghz with 3Gb RAM I've also added postfixadmin 2.1.0 to build an IMAP server with virtual users/virtual hosts management, and ran the script DATABASE_MYSQL.TXT to build correctly database/tables and user/permissions. Hi, I'm still getting the errors below on Debian Etch with Dovecot 1.0.8-4 and Dovecot LDA. Is this something that's fixed in 1.0.9? It doesn't seem to have an effect but I'm wary of messages I don't recognise!
