[Dovecot] any limitations running on a Mac?

I have postfix/dovecot/mysql installed using MacPorts on a quad-core 2.8GHz MacPro running Snow Leopard (10.6.2). I moved the base mail directory to a pair of 10k RPM Raptors that are mirrored (/Volumes/email/) and everything seems to be working fine on an unused domain with very little traffic. I used imapsync to pull everything from the current mailserver to this test server to play with. Our current mailserver's IMAP performance *really* suffers when an IMAP folder exceeds ~500MB or ~5k messages. I've become very tired of being the mailbox police trying to get my 20 users to delete email or divide into smaller mailboxes. Are there folks on the list running postfix/dovecot on similar Mac hardware that can share their experiences? Specifically, are there any limitations (file descriptors, other?) that can impact performance I should be aware of? How does dovecot on the Mac deal with >500GB maildirs? Is there a recommended tool for loading and testing the server? Postal? I have 20 IMAP users, with a total of ~37GB of mail currently. [Dovecot] client cert handling not working properly on centos 4.8

Dear List I've successfully installed/configured dovecot 1.2.10 with "require client cert" on centos 5.4 and ubuntu server 9.10 I also need to install on centos 4.8 and after the following the exact same procedure I can only get it working if I commented out ssl_require_client_cert =yes and ssl_username_from_cert = yes from the working config file. This is even after compiling dovecot with openssl 0.9.8l on centos 4.8 If I copy the same "client_ca.crt" from centos 4.8 to centos 5.4 then centos 5.4 does not problem in verifying client cert. That file contain CRL as well as certificate which signs the pkcs12 file installed on the client. [Dovecot] IMAP Folders Don't Make Sense

I noticed for some reason that I am missing an IMAP folder called 'Symantec' that was under my Inbox. I see all my other folders listed on my mail client except 'Symantec'. When I try and click on the Symantec folder as a sub folder in 'Drafts', I get an error: "The mail server responded:Mailbox doesn't exist: Drafts.Symantec" So why does it show up there and why can't I see it normally with all my other IMAP folders under my Inbox. Hi everyone..... I Build a plugin to concat my body and header splited.... Its have 2 "versions". One is with the body without modifications. The second, is with the body with crypto, and this crypto increase a little the size of email. So, without crypto, works fine, but with crypto i got stuck in some modifications. Because the email is splited, to handle it, i made a copy from istream-concat.c, and in i_stream_concat_read i made this changes. Every place that have the i_stream_get_data i get the index from concat (if is the frist or second stream) and if is the second, (my body) the unsigned char *data is the return from my function. if(cstream->cur_idx == 1){ data = decrypt_data(cstream->cur_input, &data_size); }else{ data = i_stream_get_data(cstream->cur_input, &data_size); } In this part, i get the function i_stream_get_data and put in the function too, to get the data in the same way, but i dont return the (_stream->buffer + _stream->skip;), i put this in a unsigned char * too, and work with this variable. The size_r, with the _stream->pos - _stream->skip, i update it, with the new value get from my total length from the decrypted buffer. In resume, every (inside istream_concat_read and istream_concat_read_next ) i_stream_get_data(cstream->cur_input, &data_size); // (in istream_concat_read is "pos" variable) I change to if(cstream->cur_idx == 1){ data = decrypt_data(cstream->cur_input, &data_size); //(in istream_concat_read is "pos" variable) }else{ data = i_stream_get_data(cstream->cur_input, &data_size); //(in istream_concat_read is "pos" variable) } Setting the unsigned char *data, with my decrypted data and the pos or data_size, with the length of buffer data , decrypted. I Think there is Ok with this, and must be work, but i got some errors with this, when the Email is read to get them, the total length read is diferent from the W flag in header name. FETCH [] for mailbox INBOX UID 2 got too little data: 1351 vs 1352 FETCH [] for mailbox INBOX UID 1 got too little data: 1357 vs 1360 FETCH [] for mailbox INBOX UID 3 got too little data: 691 vs 1303 There is some variable or something that i forgot to update with this news values ? Previously i was using cyrus at that time when i am sending a mail to the two groups there will only one mail in the user mailbox . But now the user is getting one more copy of same mail. Seriously, I just have to ask this question. Why mark via the subject line a message as "OFF LIST" and then send it via the normal list framework. Doing so only insures that the message is actually "ON LIST" irregardless of what nomenclature is used in the subject line. If a message is truly supposed to be "OFF LIST", then why not send it directly to its intended recipient(s)? If, on the other hand, it is meant for general review by the groups members, then why mark it "OFF LIST" to begin with? I am aware of the prefix "OT" used in several forums; however, that is usually only used to thwart the moderator of the forum from banning the message or chastising the OP. Hello, is it possible to use differnent ssl certs for pop3 and imap ? I like to have differnet dnsnames for pop3 an imap services configured at customers clients. I tried to configure ssl_key and ssl_cert inside a <protocol>-login {} section but this failed. Of course I know sslcerts containing multiple dnsnames. But this seemes not a real, clean solution to me. You are conflating UI blocking with network blocking (download), probably because that's how TB does it. IMHO, when you open a mailbox, messages should fill in and be accessible immediately, ie as soon as the headers are downloaded. Beyond a screenful, the client should continue to download headers so that when you do scroll down, there is no delay. This is especially useful when you are on a slow link. You spend SO much time doing nothing, ie reading messages, while the client could be doing work for you, and then when you scroll you have to wait again? Also you have to adjust this behavior if server-side sorting is not available and the user wants something other than message order. If you're worried about "wasting" bandwidth, a valid concern, the client need only prefetch another screenful of messages at a time. If your client is configured to sync message bodies, it should go ahead and do that before you start actually reading them, so that you are not waiting on download. Apple Mail, for one, seems to implement things as I've described. Note I am in now way endorsing Apple Mail as a good IMAP client. -frank

[Dovecot] antispam plugin

First off, I have to say I really like the antispam plugin. I am running a (relatively) new freebsd 8.0 server with postfix/dovecot/dspam/squirrelmail and it works great. Create a SPAM folder and tell the dovecot antispam plugin to use INBOX.SPAM as the spam folder and drag messages from INBOX to the spam folder and they are trained as spam. Here is the problem though: after training dspam for a couple of weeks, I had a couple hundred messages in the SPAM folder, so I selected them and hit the DELETE button and they were gone. Except they weren't. I had forgotten that by default squirrelmail moves deleted messages to a Trash folder under INBOX. So the messages were moved out of the SPAM folder, resulting in them being retrained as ham. Oops :( I then hit the purge link in squirrelmail and the messages were forever gone, so I couldn't rectify my gaffe. I have temporarily reconfigured squirrelmail to delete messages outright rather than save them in the Trash folder, but I don't like that as a long-term solution. What occurred to me is this: the current algorithm is: if message moves from * => SPAM, it is trained as spam, if it moves from SPAM => *, it is trained as ham. It would be nice if you could elaborate on that such that the ham rule was "if message moves from SPAM to X, it is ham" (and in my case, I would defined X as INBOX. Thoughts?

Hi, I'm a long term dovecot user, packager and believer, but on the other side of the wire I've been a mutt user for longer than I can think. Which modern email client under Linux is working best with dovecot? I just did a grep on User-Agent:/X-Mailer: on my dovecot archive (which goes back to 2004) and found that the top ten are: 28% Thunderbird 25% Evolution 9% Apple Mail 9% Mutt 5% Mozilla 3% KMail 2% Outlook 2% SquirrelMail 1% Alpine 1% Mulberry ... So it looks like most Linux people here like to use Thunderbird and Evolution. This is not a my-email-client-is-better-than-your-email-client thread, I just want to know which client(s) make proper use of imap features for fast searches/copies/deletions etc. Thanks! -- Axel.Thimm at ATrpms.net

[Dovecot] namespaces/virtual folder & archiving

Hi, I was following the earlier namespaces discussion and I would like to repost a doubt. I need to have some kind of archiving, it means, store old messages into a cheap storage. But I couldn´t think any other solution than symlinks. Then, I thought about store 'Sent Items' (as having old messages and less acessed). But I also needed to do with nfs and symlinks. So, it comes the namespaces discussion and a little brainstorm: 1) Could I have a namespace only with INBOX and the personal folders (drafts, sent items, etc) in another one - and those would be stored in huge sata disks while inbox in 300g sas disks ? 2) Could I maintain the prior configuration, but let the second namespace hidden and having the inbox subfolders (or any specific as sent items) as virtual folder ? I don´t know if this makes sense... 3) Could I have my normal Inbox and a folder (in another disk - ex. huge sata one) storing files older than 30 days and through virtual folders join these messages in a common virtual INBOX while acessing imap or pop3 ? Hello folkz, I'm trying to compile and install Dovecot 1.2.10 from sources. When I execute: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/dovecot make make install I reasonably expect to find dovecot libraries in /usr/local/dovecot/lib but it puts them into /usr/local/dovecot/lib/dovecot. It add this extra 'dovecot' at the end of almost every installation path. Could somebody please clarify what extra configuration parameters should be set to make to change this strange dovecot installation directories layout. Thank you very much in advance, Alex

[Dovecot] body search very slow since upgrade from 1.0.15 to 1.2.10

Did you mislead me Timo? You said search in 1.1+ is faster than 1.0. I'm seeing approximately 20x *slower* search times in 1.2.10. Via Thunderbird, a full body search of my 11,000+ message IMAP folder hosted by 1.0.15 used to take less than 10 seconds. Since upgrading to 1.2.10 the search is taking over 3 minutes, the imap process servicing the client pegging one CPU at 100% for the duration of the search. Here's the mbox file: -rw------- 1 stan stan 50M Feb 23 07:41 1-Spam-l Doing the same search via grep results in a time of: real 0m0.361s user 0m0.204s sys 0m0.140s grep takes less than half a second, yet dovecot 1.2.10 takes 3 minutes for the same search? Actually grep is searching the entire file including headers, so it's doing more work than the imap process. Something is *SERIOUSLY* wrong here. Did I somehow nerfed something in dovecot.conf that's causing this? I deleted all the index files as per the upgrade instructions. Hi, I'm trying to set Dovecot up in a way that is compatible with console usage of the same mailboxes (ie, w/o IMAP). My mailboxen are almost all maildirs (I can ignore all other formats), and are laid out as follows: INBOX = ~/Maildir All other folders are maildirs in ~/Mail Eg. ~/Mail/archive, ~/Mail/sent, ~/Mail/some-mailing-list I configured this, along the lines of http://wiki.dovecot.org/Namespaces: # I unset 'mail_location' namespace private { separator = '/' prefix = location = maildir:~/Maildir inbox = yes list = yes subscriptions = yes } namespace private { separator = / prefix = archives/ location = maildir:~/Mail hidden = no #subscriptions = yes inbox = no list = yes } which I thought should do it, but it doesn't. In TB (3, if it matters), I see: Inbox Trash archives Trash Inbox (shaded) directory (shaded) And that's about it. I don't see any of the pre-existing maildirs in ~/Mail. I also can't delete the two additional "Inbox" and "Trash" folders, and I can't subscribe to the second "Inbox", nor to "directory". I proceeded to create a new folder under "archives", which mostly ended up to be a new maildir + index files under ~/Mail, but it had a '.' in front of it. Also, the separator was automatically reset to '.' for the second namespace, as I found out when I renamed one of the directories from 'dir.1' to '.dir.1'. Am I still doing something wrong, or is this a bug or limitation in Dovecot, or in this version of it? Kind regards, --Toni++

[Dovecot] Occasional problem with POP3-Download

Hello everyone, I have two mailservers [1] running dovecot. Mail store format is maildir. Every once in a while I have the following problem: When a User downloads his mail via POP3, the client says something like "the server has closed the connection unexpectedly, and gives this reason: [...blahblah...]". One can now cancel the download, and restart it, and the problem shows up again and again. The first few mails get downloaded, and then the process stops. Strange to say the "blahblah"-portion is a piece of text out of the email that doesn't want to get downloaded. Then I remove this single message out of the Maildir/cur-directory, and everything is fine again. It is easy to figure out which mail to delete because it's the first one that is not market as seen [...] filename...:2,S otherfilename...;2, <= this file must be deleted [...] For me it looks as if dovecot had a problem with some byte sequence in this mail, and for some reason it gives an error message to the client which is taken out of the mail. On the SuSE-Machine, before dovecot there was a courier-imapd running, which never showed this kind of problem, so it should not be a client problem. Hopefully my description is clear enough. Does anyone have an idea what's going on here? Thanks. Hello, dovecot-1.2.10 dovecot-sieve-0.1.14 dovecot-managesieve-0.11.11 I believe I patched dovecot successfully and compiled the dovecot and dovecot-sieve source tress. patching file README.managesieve patching file dovecot-example.conf patching file src/master/child-process.c patching file src/master/child-process.h patching file src/master/listener.c patching file src/master/login-process.c patching file src/master/mail-process.c patching file src/master/main.c patching file src/master/master-settings-defs.c patching file src/master/master-settings.c patching file src/master/master-settings.h Then I configure dovecot-managesieve and this completes without error. Hi, I have an Android Mail App which worked fine with IDLE pushes before (K-9 Mail) under 1.2.10. With 2.0 beta 3 it seems to be looking for an IDLE prompt from the server, otherwise it will disable connection idling (whether this is valid or not). is there a plugin or some other method by which i could have a user ONLY have access to subscribed folders? having a separate login or a separate instance of dovecot is ok if necessary. the iPhone always shows ALL folders, not just subscribed ones. i'd like to be able to see only the subscribed folders.

I have been running dovecot 1.2.10 without problems. I am trying to install 2.0.beta3. I have I think translated all my configuration customizations correctly, but I have problems. I can start dovecot, but I can't login, at least not with SSL. And since I had to break some of them, I decided it could be a good time to do some other less necessary API cleanups. This made things again much simpler. I'm hoping to get v2.0.rc1 out in not too distant future. Pretty much the only big missing feature that I wanted to do is being able to add per-protocol auth settings (e.g. protocol smtp { userdb { .. } }), but that doesn't seem to be all that easy to implement. There are of course some bugs still left to be fixed, mainly related to mdbox and dsync. User visible changes: - imap_zlib plugin implements COMPRESS=DEFLATE IMAP extension - zlib plugin: Added support for compressing mails while saving - zlib plugin: fixed reading bzip2 compressed mail files - zlib plugin: Added support for dbox and mdbox formats - mdbox: doveadm purge moves old mails to alt storage (if using alt storage) - added support for tcpwrappers - added support for SHA512 password scheme (by Mark Washenberger) - mailbox deletion is now free of race conditions (e.g. quota calculations). if another session tries to access mailbox before it's fully deleted, it'll get "Mailbox is being deleted" error. - "key = $set" in config file now sets key's value to "set" setting's value. this is probably rather limited outside the only place where I created it for: service { user = $default_internal_user } - default_internal_user and default_login_user settings now specify what users should be used for them. currently the default is still dovecot and dovecot, but I'm hoping to change default_login_user to something else.. - Removed maildir_copy_preserve_filename setting. It's now always tried to be preserved (or rather: message's GUID is preserved) - auth failure penalty tries to avoid increasing penalty for IP if auth is failing always with the same user+password combination. - doveadm penalty command can be used to see the current penalties - login processes: config lookups are now cached, so it no longer asks for configuration from config process every time (except if there are remote {} blocks in config. also the local {} caching could be smarter.) - Tons of mdbox fixes - Tons of dsync fixes, especially with mbox So some of the changes visible to developers are: - dovecot-config file changed. if your external plugin uses this file, you need to change it to use the new format. - added dovecot.m4 file that can be used by external plugins' configure script to get Dovecot settings. This was mainly done by Dennis Schridde. - mailbox_alloc() no longer has stream parameter, instead there's mailbox_open_stream() - mailbox_close() renamed to mailbox_free(). added a different mailbox_close(), which only closes opened mailbox, but doesn't free it. - mailbox_delete(), mailbox_rename() APIs changed - notify plugin's delete/rename API changed as well - mailbox GUID is now looked up using mailbox_get_guid(), not mailbox_status() - dict_iterate*() API changed

Hello, while reading config options for dovecot v1.2.10 I've noticed a very small bug: # ./configure --help | egrep -- 'Dovecot|--with-gnu-ld' `configure' configures Dovecot 1.2.10 to adapt to many kinds of systems. --with-gnu-ld assume the C compiler uses GNU ld [default=no] --with-gnu-ld assume the C compiler uses GNU ld default=no I think the latter entry should be removed. Hello everyone, I am currently running Dovecot as a high performance solution to a particular kind of problem. My userbase is small, but it murders email servers. The volume is moderate, but message retention requirements are stringent, to put it nicely. Many users receive a high volume of email traffic, but want to keep every message, and *search* them. This produces mail accounts up to 14+GiB. After seeing the failures of my predecessors, I transitioned to Postfix/Dovecot and haven't looked back. Things are running nicely with the below setup. Postfix and Dovecot running on the same virtual machine on a Dell 2950 with 1x Xeon E5440 on ESXi 4. Maildirs served up by 10x146GB 15k RPM SAS drives on RAID-10 via direct attached Dell MD-1000. We are transitioning other services to high availability, and I'm wondering exactly how to provide some kind of near-realtime failover for my Postfix/Dovecot machine. The MD-1000 provides nothing in the way of iSCSI, but it *does* have two SAS connections available, only one of which is in use. I have been looking at the Dell EqualLogic stuff and it seems to provide what we need. I can get most of the information I need from the rep, but I wonder if anyone has any experience with high performance requirements on these kinds of storage. I'd like to continue running my current hardware as the primary mail server, but provide some kind of failover using the SAN. The primary usage of the SAN will be to make our 2TB document store highly available. I'm wondering what kind of options I might have in the way of piggybacking some email failover on this kind of hardware without sacrificing the performance I'm currently enjoying. Is it possible to go with a virtual machine mounted on iSCSI acting as a backup mail server? How would I sync the two, NBD+MD? Any experience doing this with maildirs? I wonder about the performance. Can it be as simple as attaching my MD-1000's second controller to the SAN magic box via SAS and pressing the Easy button? Is it as expensive as running my primary mailserver mounted from the SAN via Fiber Channel? Will that get me under 30ms latency? Hi, This might be a silly question: which would be the best inode ratio for a 5 Tb filesystem dedicated to Maildir++ storage? I use ubuntu server, which has a preconfigured setting for mkfs.ext4 called "news" with inode_ratio = 4096, and after formating the fs with that setting and then with the defautl setting I see this difference of space (wasted space, but more inodes): 4328633696 free 1K-blocks with mkfs's "-T news" switch = 1219493877 free inodes 4557288800 free 1K-blocks with default mkfs settings = 304873461 free inodes I'll be storing e-mail messages for around 20,000 accounts on that partition (average 512 Mb per account). Would you consider worth the waste of about 200 Gb of the filesystem space in exchange of more inodes? Thanks. Rodolfo.

Hi, I'm having trouble implementing the virtual pop3 inbox solution in Dovecot 1.2.x. As the following wiki page describes (http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Virtual) one should only set the inbox=yes flag for the virtual namespace which then flattens all mailboxes in the realmails/ prefix. In the above example when I set the inbox=yes flag for the virtual namespace, the inbox in the realmails/ prefix gets left out for obvious reasons. How did the original author intend this to work? Hi everybody, we're currently in the process of drafting our new mailserver-setup. Instead of a single-server-setup we'd like to have two equal servers behind a loadbalancer like LVS and shared mailhomes on NFS. We'd like to use dovecot for POP/IMAP, dovecot-deliver as LDA. - It's probably the best idea to direct SMTP and POP/IMAP always to the same server behind the loadbalancer (because dovecot-deliver is used which updates indexes?) - If we think of a "active/passive" setup: dovecot index-files locally or on the nfs-share? - Is it possible to activate loadbalancing for SMTP in this environment if dovecot index-files are held locally on each machine (POP/IMAP is directed only to one of the two servers?) Dear List, I have a few questions regarding dovecot sasl authentication that are somewhat related to each other. I have a working dovecot config with ---------- ssl_verify_client_cert = yes .. . ssl_require_client_cert = yes ssl_username_from_cert = yes --------------- (With this set up I need not set a correct user name in my mail client so long as I have it correctly in cert.) It turns out that I cannot export client socket to postfix to do smtp authentication unless I comment out ssl_require_client_cert=yes Does it mean that postfix is not passing to dovecot any information about certificate? Is passing certificate information not part of sasl framework? If so I won't be able to use it with a different sasl implementation. Also if I comment out ssl_require_client_cert=yes, then I can no longer use username from cert to log in to retrieve my pop mail. I prefer to get username this way otherwise my thunderbird mailbox reads user@domain.org@domain.org; I could have more than one domain in my dovecot servers. Thanks mr.wu

I have some procmail rules to decide where mail should go, which can't be migrated to sieve (uses external programs). So far I write it to maildirs, but I wonder to migrate to mdbox, and procmail can't handle it. Any ideas? hi all, I'd like to make deliver put mail into a nearly full mailbox even when they become overquota as a result. The same problem came up a few weeks ago: http://dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2010-January/045695.html Since no solution was offered may I suggest this topic as an additional feature for future releases? ;-) This is a important for me because sometimes users are lazy. They think "oh, still 10% left, no reason to delete mail" while in the meantime large messages are already bounced, while some small ones arrive in the users inbox. cheers, achim

[Dovecot] Client behaviour with sieve

Hi, I have a working dovecot imap-server, with sieve. I find it odd that my mail-clients (Thunderbird 2 and 3) don't report anything that's new in the folders. What I mean is this : Postfix get's a mail and hands it over to dovecot's LDA and sieve moves it to a folder. When I log in with Thunderbird, I see new messages in my Inbox. But that message that was moved to a folder is "invisible" until I click on the folder. Then Thunderbird sees there are new messages in that folder and reports the number of new messages and makes the foldername bold. Is this the expected behaviour ? Or did I configure something wrong ? Upgraded from Debian Dovecot 1.0.15 to Debian Dovecot 1.2.10-1~bpo50+1. I use Postfix local delivery to and Dovecot mbox. As per upgrade directions, I stopped dovecot processes and deleted all dovecot.index.cache files in /home/%user/mail/.imap. Performed upgrade to 1.2.10-1~bpo50+1. Modified new dovecot.conf for my environment. Started dovecot. Problem: Instantly noticed in TB 3.0.1 Win32 that all emails in all folders were marked as unread. Stopped TB, stopped dovecot, deleted *all* files in /home/%user/mail/imap/ so indexes and caches could be rebuilt from scratch. Started dovecot, started TB. Same problem. Then I got ugly, stopped TB and dovecot, deleted all ~.imap/ files *and* deleted *all* TB cache and index files with a time stamp of today. Restarted dovecot, restarted TB. Same damn problem. I sit hit right clicking folder after folder and selecting "mark as read", only to see all the emails in the folder go "read" and then within seconds go back to marked as unread (bold). Opening messages one at a time and moving to the next doesn't even keep them marked as read. WTF is going on? Why won't they stay marked as read? I've got over 25,000 emails in these folders and I get a few hundred list mails a day. I really need to get this read/unread business straightened out. What the heck am I missing? Is this a bug in the Debian backport? Good thing I have no hair or I'd have pulled half of it out by now... -- Stan

hi... which are the diference to configure quota plugin when LDA is dovecot: these setting: protocol imap { : mail_plugins = quota imap_quota : } protocol pop3 { : mail_plugins = quota : } .vs. these setting: protocol lda { : mail_plugins = quota : } Note: - dovecot version is 1.2.0 thanks in advance!! -- Salu2 ;)

dovecot 1.0.15 Hello, i try to set quota settings for my users. currentyl i use a mysql table for auth process and now i want to add quotasettings for each individual user. at the moment i have the problem that only global quota is effective and no userquota which is stored in usertable. [Dovecot] auth processes

With 1.0.15 my configuration I a single dovecot-auth process, which is what I want now. Since upgrading to 1.2.10 I have two such processes: root 16992 16990 0 Feb15 ? 00:00:00 dovecot-auth root 16997 16990 0 Feb15 ? 00:00:00 dovecot-auth -w I can't seem to tweak dovecot.conf to get this down to one auth process again. I've tried setting each of these below to 0, which resulted in either none, or one auth process. In the case of the one auth process, T-Bird wasn't working correctly, although it presented no pop up or other errors. When I'd click an IMAP folder it would just show whitespace and never pull up the emails. auth_worker_max_count = # Number of authentication processes to create count = This is an extremely low volume host, and I'm an efficiency freak. I don't like having "unnecessary" processes running if it is at all possible to avoid it. Given my IMAP user load, I know for a fact that I should only need one auth process, and for that matter, given my load, running all the dovecot processes from inetd is even a valid option, although I've not yet attempted that. hi Today I have been in a puzzling fight with 2 dovecot versions that I would like to ask some comments on. The situation is this: - I have a considerable mail archive in mbox format (yes, I know, but that is what I have..). - My mail reader is mutt 1.5.20 by the way. - Some of these mbox files have names like firstname.initial.lastname Note the . seperating the parts of the email-ers name. - On my old system I have dovecot v 1.1.7 which has always worked flawless - On my new system I have dovecot v 1.2.8 which refuses to handle these dot-seperated files. I get the somewhat familiar "Mailbox doesn't allow inferior mailboxes". On a not-previously-existing mbox dovecot 1.2.8 produces the directory hierarchy thing: firstname -> initial -> lastname - I am using the same dovecot.conf on v.1.1.7 and v.1.2.8 Can anyone tell me if v1.2.8 no longer is able to do what v1.1.7 did? And what I dearly would like to get working :-( And if it can, what should I put in dovecot.conf to make that happen? thanks, Wilko -- wilko(a)FreeBSD.org
