Ok, sorry to bother again, but i am going crazy to make work cmusieve with dovecot. I intend to use it for the vacation system, but...seems the system ignores the .dovecot.sieve file into the user dir... I am doing something wrong, but i don't know what... I'm trying to make a regex to match common mailing list addresses and file messages to corresponding folders. I'm using sieve-test to try and understand what is happening. The sieve script is: require [ "fileinto", "regex", "variables" ]; if header :regex ["Sender"] ["(.*>[ \\t]*,?[ \\t]*)?([^-@]*)-([^-@]*)(-bounces)?@antlr.org"] { fileinto "${0} :: 1:${1} 2:${2} 3:${3} 4:${4} 5:${5} 6:${6} 7:${7}"; } The email contains: Sender: antlr-interest-bounces(a)antlr.org I'm trying to form a folder from the first two parts of the sender. In the real script, that will do a "fileto antlr.interest;" Running sieve-test, I get: * store message in folder: antlr-interest-bounces(a)antlr.org :: 1: 2:antlr 3: 4:interest 5: 6:-bounces 7: I don't understand why parts 3 and 5 are empty. From the regex grouping, I expected Part 2 "antlr" Part 3 "interest" Part 4 "-bounces" The regex groups break done as: 1: (.*>[ \\t]*,?[ \\t]*)? - match leading name, comma or spaces 2: ([^-@]*) - match first part: 'antlr' in his case - - Hyphen between parts 3: ([^-@]*) - match second part: interest in this case 4: (-bounces)? - When cc'd, -bounces part isn't used The same regex tested with perl works as I expected. Without the first group of the regex '(.*>[ \\t]*,?[ \\t]*)?', it works correctly. That group isn't getting matched anyway, so it shouldn't matter. This is with 1.2alpha5. What am I missing? [Dovecot] Migration question: .INBOX?

Hi, Not much left to fix in my migration script (moving between two dovecot servers). However, I discovered a mail folder .INBOX without cur, new and tmp subfolders, and the .imap.index files were rather old (feb 2006). Is this an old relic from early dovecot versions (I once ran 0.99 on this old server)? Or is it old client software? There are no data in it. [Dovecot] Intermittent "certificate cannot be verified" error

Hi guys, Not sure where to start looking for this. I've got a few users getting intermittent "certificate cannot be verified" messages when connecting through SSL to Dovecot. Connections go through haproxy to Dovecot 1.1.8 on the back end servers. I've got verbose_ssl and auth_debug enabled. Since there are no real errors in the Dovecot logs I'm suspecting that haproxy is perhaps not routing every packet correctly leading to Dovecot not getting all the data needed for the connection. Are there any other possibilities I've missed? HI All, We have the latest Dovecot 1.1.6 running and I need to migrate some POP3 users over from Courier to Dovecot and would need to convert the courierpop3dsizelist to maintain the UIDs. I just need to confirm that the script (http://www.dovecot.org/tools/courier-dovecot-migrate.pl) only works for Dovecot v1.0 and not for v1.1? As the dovecout-uidlist file that is created (by the script) is not in the same format as dovecot-uidlist file that is created by the 1.1.6 server. Thanks, Warren

Hello folks An Apple user here have troubles between Dovecot and its Apple mail client that presents ALL attachements inline inside emails instead of "Attachements" the problem occurs only when using IMAP , when using POP3 attachements appears as they are supposed to do. I do have two questions related to the managesieve setup in dovecot 1) I did setup a global sieve filter, that is invoked if a user has no other sieve filter. If a user installs a sieve filter and activates it (PUTSCRIPT, SETACTIVE) then the sieve filter gets compiled (.sievec) and deliver does use it. If I want to deactivate the filter (SETACTIVE "") only the symlink (to the .sieve script) is removed, the .sievec file remains intact. On the other hand the dovecot documentation reads (http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Sieve) To stop using sieve, both the .sieve source file and the compiled .sievec file must be deleted How can I let a user switch between the globally installed sieve filter and an own filter. Activation seems to be ok, but deactivation would not result in the switch back to the global filter if I believe the docs. 2) To use the SASL authentication with managesieve the name of the service has to be given. In the managesieve RFC http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-sieve-managesieve-09 I can read (page13): The service name specified by this protocol's profile of SASL is "sieve". On the other hand I can find in managesieve-0.10.4 in client-authenticate.c #define MANAGESIEVE_SERVICE_NAME "managesieve" The name is important for the Kerberos5 auth I am doing, as I have to provide a service key for managesieve.hostname@REALM instead of sieve.hostname@REALM. Currently I have adapted my auth to the "managesieve" service name but maybe that should be changed. Hi all I'm considering moving over my POP3 service from qmail-pop3d to Dovecot for the following reasons: - Support for Maildir++ which I have yet to implement - Already using Dovecot for IMAP, so makes sense i.t.o Maildir++ - Support for SQL based user authentication My primary concerns are performance and security. Before I go down that route of migrating away from qmail-pop3d, I'd appreciate some answers and feedback on the following. There is mention of the Maildir filename extension W= for virtual file size here: http://wiki.dovecot.org/POP3Server However, I can't find any MDAs which support writing the filename in this format. Maildrop seems to support S= only? If Dovecot is only able to read W= in the filename, I would imagine that it might make sense to have an MDA like Maildrop write the message to disk, replacing all LF with CR+LF and finally write the filename with identical S= and W= filename extensions included? Example: Maildrop replaces all LFs with CR+LF in incoming message. Maildrop writes message as: 1035478339.27041_118.foo.org,S=1000,W=1000 (where 1000 is the file's RFC822.SIZE) Then Dovecot doesn't have to calculate virtual message sizes. I've also found this thread: http://markmail.org/message/oznf2f7m7hvsxqn6 ... which suggests changing mail_get_virtual_size to mail_get_physical_size in src/pop3/client.c Would this read the size from S=, or do a stat()? 5. Hello all I would like to ask if there is adequate mechanism to authenticate users through POP3 against Active Directory by Outlook Express so that users will authenticate seamlessly using logon credentials. I have implemented LDAP authentication but users must supply their credentials to Outlook Express although they have logged on to Windows (AD). the ntlm auth in Dovecot 1.1 (windind) satisies this requirement (no credentials in Outlook)? thanks Dimitrios

[Dovecot] Move from 1.0.rc29 to 1.1.7?

Hello! I am moving my mail from the old server with 1.0.rc29 to a brand new server with 1.1.7. I use Maildir in both servers. A few questions: 1) The new server has another name, can I just copy the mail files as-is, will the server name in the file names matter? 2) The new server has a different architecture and different endian, so I plan not to copy the index and cache files; they seem to have become broken from time to time in the old server anyway. Dovecot will also re-create them when needed. Ok? 3) 1.0.rc29 did not store the message size in the file name as later versions. When will Dovecot do the check and rename the files to include the message size? There are some folders with quite large number of messages, the largest is some 45,000 messages. Hello all. We start to use Dovecot at our email production but it runs not such fast as we expect. We use Dell 2950 with 4GbRAM at FreeBSD-7.0-p9 - load avarage never upper a 0.5 We have about 500 clients most of it use Outlook 2007 via IMAP. We run in this problems: 1) Sync of imap folder is really slow(I think it is Outlook problem) 2) Time after time we got Sync error from outlook 3) Time after time our monitoring system says what IMAP port not answer in 10 sec. In real life it start to answer in 15-20 sec what is not really good - client thinks what server don`t work. If I restart dovecot - it start to answer in 1-3 sec. Last Wednesday at 12:21 I made this switch, which seemed to be uneventful. In any case, no user has reported problems since the migration. Not content to leave well enough alone, this morning I scanned the syslog and maillog for dovecot related errors. Hi i want to migrate from dbmail to dovecot, the main problem is passwords. dbmail uses "md5-hash" wich crypt "111" to "$1$tZNR7pR4$jMuuKWm7ljRyL8iEMfjep.". Tried all dovecot pass schemes thru `dovecotpw` and no one matches. The main question is how to migrate dbmail -> dovecot.

Hi all, I am running Dovecot v1.1.7 in a relatively quiet and calm environment. Suddenly overnight cron job started throwing out errors like: /usr/sbin/dovecot --exec-mail ext /usr/lib/dovecot/expire-tool Error: userdb(user1(a)mail.example) didn't return a home directory Error: userdb(user2(a)mail.example) didn't return a home directory Indeed, running this command produces: ------------------------- $ sudo /usr/sbin/dovecot --exec-mail ext /usr/lib/dovecot/expire-tool --test Error: userdb(user1(a)mail.example) didn't return a home directory Info: User lookup failed: user1(a)mail.example Error: userdb(user2(a)mail.example) didn't return a home directory Info: User lookup failed: user2(a)mail.example ------------------------- Yet these mailboxes are valid, corresponding users can login, send and receive mail. Other mailboxes are OK, too. Where to to start looking? I found that similar error message with v1.1.6 is fixed in v1.1.7, but I am running v.1.1.7 already. Please see dovecot configuration attached. Hi, ok, I'm am developing a new solution that includes dovecot, and will be wanting to use the latest sieve implementation, so I have chosen to start with 1.2 as the base. I had a working install of 1.1.8 installed, and got a checkpassword setup working properly with it to authenticate a user. I used the passdb to call checkpassword, and the prefetch userdb to tell it to use the values that I sent back from the checkpassword script... I compiled and installed 1.2.alpha5, and now my checkpassword does not seem to be working, and I can't figure out why. Its working nice for regular recipient addresses like user(a)example.com and addresses with an extension like user+foo(a)example.com. Alias addresses are currently ignored. * An alias may expand into multiple destinations. Hello. Our clients use damn Outlook 2007 and it is can not move deleted messages to Trash folder. As I see dovecot have a experemental plugin "deleted-to-trash" right for this thing. Hello. I found what if you have a something like this: autocreate = Trash autocreate2 = Sent autocreate3 = Spam *Then I delete autocreate2 string* and... autocreate3 will not work. If I add autocreate2 - all work well. Yes it is seems to be right what they all must go after each otherm but if i have a 20 or 30 autocreate folders and i want to delete autocreate2 for example - all other from 3-20 will not work. Hi Timo i found "the bug" with autocreate in dovecot 1.2 last weeks i tested a lot with namespaces i finally declared shared namespace before private namespace in dovecot.conf by doing a lot of copy paste namespace test variants getting autocreate to work i finally copied my private namespace declaration above the shared namespace in dovecot.conf and now its working. So it simple autocreate parses the dovecot.conf from begin and uses the first namespace found in dovecot.conf , if that namespace doesnt match its going do log namespace not found in the log and stop working so its by design ,not really a bug , but it should dokumented elsewhere if you wont fix that behavior in the future -- Best Regards MfG Robert Schetterer Germany/Munich/Bavaria

I'm using Dovecot 1.1.7 in a simple setup with a static userdb: userdb: driver: static args: uid=50018 gid=50019 home=/home/dovemail When my users create folders via IMAP, the ownership of the mbox file is user dovemail, group dovemail, and permissions are 600. Hi to all, Today i have manually copied at least 250 mail from a mailbox to another and i have encountered some problems with dovecot. When finished to download all the messages, via pop3, at the next check mail dovecot give me that error: dovecot: Jan 15 10:59:55 Info: POP3(michele(a)domain.net): Mailbox init failed top=0/0, retr=0/0, del=0/29, size=932800 Then, the messages from the pop server was deleted, to the client an error was given but no mail downloaded. I have resolved that deleting all the dovecot files into the mailbox, so: dovecot-uidlist dovecot.index dovecot.index.cache dovecot.index.log Then, all restarted to works normally, but...the most bad thing is... the lost mails! I use OpenSuSE 11 with dovecot11-1.1.3-5.1 with postfix and virtual users on mysql. Hi I am having problems with a new server that I'm setting up. For some reason it doesn't want to create the directories for the users. Hi all, Is there a way to enforce STARTTLS for all connections, regardless their authentication mechanism? disable_plaintext_auth only takes care of the auth conversation, but I would like to have all communication encrypted. As far as I can see, this would only be possible when using imaps and disabling imap. However, I would like to have the other way around; disabling imaps and using imap for all communication (with enforced STARTTLS). Am I missing something? Durk
