[Dovecot] Dovecot with LDAP on multiple domains ?

Hello, I intend to set up a mail server for a few domains with Dovecot/Postfix/MySQL/DSPAM and antispam plugin. The better solution to manage users would be to set up a ldap server. HiWe need to track exactly when our users read messages. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out how we can achieve this with Dovecot. Then I saw the mail_log plugin.Is it possible to extend the plugin to also log system flag changes? This would be great, because then we could see in the log files when the Seen flag has been set. Changes in user defined flags would also be interesting to track.I know this would create a lot of log entries, but for us this wouldn't be a problem. [Dovecot] "nopassword" extra field useless with LDAP passdb

Hi, We are trying to implement a highly secure mail server with user authentication restricted to SSL certificates only (not using passwords at all). Still, user information is stored in a LDAP directory. In this configuration LDAP is used to check whether the user is registered (and probably supply quota and other info), and actual authentication is done by SSL layer. According to wiki, a "nopassword" extra field should be supplied, together with empty password. But there is no way to return an empty password from LDAP, as LDAP simply does not allow "empty attributes"; if an attribute is present, it is not empty. Supplying empty password as a static field (like this: pass_attrs = uid=user,=password=,nopassword) works an odd way, allowing empty password only, not "any password", and most MUAs (including our target Thunderbird) do not allow empty passwords. [Dovecot] OT: Looking for a robust IMAP client

This weekend we had a runaway email endless loop. When it was killed after 18 hours, my inbox had 135,000 messages in it...there were two messages that were being endlessly sent and bounced and I'm on the postmaster alias. Thunderbird was able to do a mass select of one of the two messages, and deleted 65,000, but after that it locked up. I ended up firing up Pine to do the final 65,000...whereas TBird had had mulitple imap sessions (and failed), Pine only had one and did the job. And even after I had done the mass delete of the other 65,000 and the inbox was down to 2000 messages, TBird was still hiding under the covers and telling me there were still 135,000 messages. In the end, I had to kill the TBird profile for that account and recreate it. Is there a simple robust IMAP client to replace Pine (which I *think* is no longer supported)? GUI or TTY session? I'm wondering if there is something we can tell users to use when Things Are Dire. [Dovecot] [PATCH] drop root privileges on solaris, request for testing

Hello all, this patch allows master process to drop more root priveleges under Solaris. My limited testing shows that code works, but I'm not sure that defined privilege set is permissive enough for dovecot. Unfortunately I have no root access to our Solaris servers to really test it. [Dovecot] Dovecot imap processes pinning CPU

In recent days, dovecot's "imap" processes keep getting stuck. Each time I check my server (running dovecot 1.1.7) there's a bunch of "imap" processes (sometimes 2 of them, sometimes 4, sometimes 6) that are using all of the box's CPU. And worse, there's no way to kill the processes either (neither kill -15 or kill -9 works), which means that I wind up having to reboot the box every time this happens. REALLY irritating. I don't normally even *see* the imap processes in htop, as I think they're pretty short lived. And I'm not sure what they're looping trying to do. My debugging skills on Linux are a bit weak, and so I don't know how to look at the process and see what it's doing. Also, not sure what's changed on my system to cause this, as this is definitely a recent problem. Maybe the upgrade to Thunderbird 2.0.0.18 (since I usually use T'Bird to access my email). I don't seem to run into this problem when I use Squirrelmail. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Or, if not, then suggestions on how I might be able to debug the situation myself? Hi Guys, I am using the SSL Client Certificate authentication method for my Dovecot instance, however rather then just requiring the client certificate it also prompts me for my user password. My certificate was securely generated on a smart card and is passphrase protected so I would like to stop having to enter my certificate passphrase and my user password to collect my mail. This is assuming that the IMAP client uses FETCH ENVELOPE command, not all do. Note that it doesn't affect versions older than v1.1.4. + dovecot -n and -a now prints some system information at the top. + More error/debug message logging improvements. - pop3-login: Fixed assert-crash if a client sent USER+PASS+USER+PASS commands in the same IP packet. - Parsing an invalid message address like "From: (" caused an assert-crash in v1.1.4 and v1.1.5. - Folding whitespace wasn't handled correctly inside quoted-strings, causing some messages to be parsed incorrectly. - mbox: Fixed saving messages that begin with a valid From_-line.

Hi, I have just installed dovecot and offlineimap on my laptop for syncing with my gmail, and reading in gnus, as outlined in this article: http://sachachua.com/wp/2008/05/08/geek-how-to-use-offlineimap-and-the-dove… I am using Debian Etch, and I am the only user. The only change I made to the default dovecot.conf file was to set: mail_location = maildir:~/MailDir I read that gnus doesn't handle Maildir very well, so I need to connect directly to dovecot, and this is what I have specified in my offlinemap conf file: [Repository Local] type = IMAP remotehost = localhost port = 143 remoteuser = me remotepass = secret I want to sync my other online email accounts aswell. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Thanks.

Hello, i have following problems using dovecot-antispam plugin (Dovecot >1.1.3, FreeBSD 8.0-Current, dovecot-antispam 1.0/1.1) dovecot-antispam compiled using dspam-exec/mailtrain, with/wo debugging (i've tried all possibilities) When i try to move message to SPAM folder (using dspam-exec backend) i'm getting IMAP error: antispam signature not found and in dovecot logs: Nov 23 23:44:24 freebsd dovecot: IMAP(mr): Next message unexpectedly lost from 2708619 Using mail backend gives this error too(only IMAP error changes: failed to read mail beggining). Hello, I use the debian packages from http://xi.rename-it.nl/debian/ version 1.1.7-0~auto+17 If I put a sieve script into /home/vmail/sieve-scripts/test.de/test.sieve it is used, so cmusieve works. [Dovecot] Replace Domainname in Mail Location

Hello, I dont fully understand how the domain name replacement in mail_location takes place. If I connect to the server using my username as in the text file i can not access my Maildirs as %d gets not replaced. If i user username(a)domain.com the %d is correctly replaced. But, how would i configure my mail_location, to take the domain part from the server name i connect to? So i could set up my client to connect to mydomain.com and have just my username set as login? I did not find a variable that seems to be more correct than %d. So i guess i have to configure that elsewehre? In userdb? [Dovecot] Horde IMP w/ dovecot folder list

Hi! I'm using dovecot-1.1.7, Horde-3.3.2 and IMP-4.3.2. The left-side folder list has some folders, whos names contains localized (non-ascii) characters. This is displayed correctly when I select the "English (American)" language entry on the login page from the dropdown menu. But when I choose my locale, which is "Magyar" (Hungarian), the folders won't display the correct characters. It's like this: With "English (American)" locale: Ügyfél With "Magyar" locale: &ANw-gyf&AOk-l The latter is the same displaying as with the folder's name on the filesystem: # ls -1 user/Maildir/ [...] .&ANw-gyf&AOk-l/ [...] I've sent this message to imp@ but, they say it is a problem with my mailserver, which I suspected, because the wrong folder names are exactly the same as the folder names on the filesystem. Hi, When user exceeds it's quota then dovecot can't create it's files and it's showing zero mails :( This also means that user is unable to delete it's own mails. Sounds like kind-of bug, right? I have dovecot serving a maildir in ~/Mail.imap. In Mail.imap I have cur/ new/ tmp/ .maillist1/ .maillist1/cur .maillist1/new .maillist1/tmp ... I made a sieve script, which looks like: require "fileinto"; if header :is "Subject" "test" { fileinto "test"; } ... with no final else clase. When mail is delivered to a maillist, caught by my sieve script, it goes into the correct subdir of maildir. But, when not caught by the script, I get: Dec 14 11:53:27 localhost deliver(nbecker): msgid=<d9f848520812140850q190f104fva5f586e43fa03994(a)mail.gmail.com>: saved mail to INBOX I can't find this mail saved to INBOX. There are no modified directories under maildir that I can find. Where did this mail go? I wanted it to go into the toplevel cur/, which is where my client finds them.

Hi, I am using SIEVE to filter/sort my incoming mails. I am subscribed to tens of mailing lists and I would like to file messages into folder of this pattern: INBOX/list/<tld>/<domain name>/<list name> So for example help-gnu-emacs(a)gnu.org would be filed under: INBOX/list/org/gnu/help-gnu-emacs The problem is Dovecot is telling me that this mailbox name is invalid. When I ran /usr/local/sbin/dovecot, the variable login_log_format_elements from dovecot.conf was honored. Now when I run /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/imap-login from /etc/inetd.conf, it isn't. How do I get imap-login to write log lines that use login_log_format_elements for the format? This is dovecot-1.2.alpha3 soon to be alpha4. Thanks, Jonathan

Hi all, I just had a panic with dovecot 1.1.6, two days after replacing 1.0.15 with it in production. Here are the logs immediately preceding the panic, I think they're related. It seems the user connected simultaneously from two different clients, from his own computer and a webmail running on the server, then manipulated mail folders on one side, and logged out. The panic occurred 3 seconds after the logout. Is there a setting I might have missed that could avoid that? [Dovecot] proxy and master user

Hi For some application we need a master user on our IMAP servers. We use dovecot 1.1.7 in proxy mode, with proxy_maybe (some mailboxes are on the proxy itself, others are on remote servers, also running dovecot). But the proxy removes the '*master' suffix from the username when using the master user to log in on the proxy. So the base name of the user with the master password are submitted to the real server, which of course fails. Is there a way to tell the proxy to forward the master user to the real server, without forcing it in destuser, since we also need to have regular (non master) logins? While researching a possible bug in our custom-made Maildir++ expiration script, I found the following in src/plugins/quota/quota-maildir.c. | static const char * | maildir_list_next(struct maildir_list_context *ctx, time_t *mtime_r) | { | [...] | *mtime_r = st.st_size; | return str_c(ctx->path); | } As far as I unterstand, this seems incorrect, because the value in mtime_r is used, for example, in maildirs_check_have_changed to check whether any maildirs or folders have changed. Also, is there any smtp client which can be used with it for a open-source standalone server? i want very-small foot print+secure server, qmail and sendmail are dinos, and i felt xmail is trying to do everything. [Dovecot] imap quota makes the Alarm clock expire

Hello list, I have a strange problem with dovecot and quota. The error message is not obvious... The whole system is on a XEN machine and I have multipe copies of this image running on other machines with no problem. [Dovecot] freebsd 7, panics - kqueue?

Hi, We have a issue with a server pretty much just running dovecot, there's about 250gb of maildirs which has about 200 simultaneous connections to it running on freebsd 7. The machine has stayed up for about 8 days before it panics but sometimes panics after about 24 hours. We are running a PAE kernel (with ULE scheduler) as the machine has 2 (4 core processors) and 8gb of ram, dovecot is compiled with kqueue support which i suspect is causing the panics. We are currently trying with a GENERIC kernel to see if this addresses the issue but looking back through the dovecot lists there seems to be some issue with kqueue, freebsd and dovecot, i am tempted to simply disable kqueue in dovecot but am not sure on the performance penalties. [Dovecot] Dovecot authentication not supported in Entourage

Hi Guys, I recently configured an mail server running postfix + dovecot + mysql + postfixadmin, everything is running ok except for Mac Entourage clients which is a PITA IMO, I always get a authentication not supported error while thunderbird and outlook on windows don't.
