Hello, I have dovecot 1.1.1 with dovecot-sieve-1.1.5 and managesieve 0.10.3. Everything is working, with exeption of this filter: if header :comparator "i;ascii-casemap" :regex "X-Spam-Score" ".*\+\+\+\+" { fileinto "Spamq"; stop; } Which I think should match only messages with ++++ somewhere in their X-Spam-Score header - but matches everything (this is filter generated by ingo fom horde.org framework). [Dovecot] can't download attachment from the wiki

Hi. At http://wiki.dovecot.org/ManageSieve#line-229 , I want to download the patch that's supposed to fix two problems in Avelsieve. Unfortunately, when I click on the link to the patch, I always get an error message: You are not allowed to do AttachFile on this page. Annoying. I've created an account and logged in, but still no joy. Can anyone suggest how or where else I can get that patch? Thanks, Andrew.

[Dovecot] Cannot access IMAP from other computer on network

I am a newcomer to Dovecot so apologies if this is elementary. I want to set up dovecot to allow other computers on my home network to read emails on my desktop via IMAP. This computer is called arcadia. dovecot is running and I can access the mail on the same computer with mutt -f imap://ac@localhost. If I use the above line on a different computer in the network it says "authenticaing 'PLAIN'" and then "logging in ..", then "login failed" and cuts out. In /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf I have set disable_plaintext_auth = no I have no idea how to proceed further. Anthony Campell

[Dovecot] newbie: problem with IMAPS + mutt + Thunderbird

Hi, I'm a Dovecot newbie and have some problems with the configuration/the resulting interoperability. My setup looks like this: I receive my mail using qmail-ldap and sort it with a number of means into ~/Mailbox/ (= INBOX) and ~/Mail/folder/ for various values of 'folder' (generally one folder per mailing list). The sorting is done via .qmail-* files, LDAP entries, and procmail (this is a "legacy" setup that I'd rather not change too much). I usually access my mail using 'mutt' on the local machine (Debian 4.0), and everything is fine. I'd like to be able to access the same email using Thunderbird over IMAPS as well, to gain foreign character support (ie, Chinese), while continuing to use mutt as my main MUA. There are, so far, two problems with this setup: 1. I can't find the folders in ~/Mail/. As an interim solution, I symlinked them from my ~/Mailbox/ dir, but this is _dead_ugly_. 2. (MUCH more serious) As soon as I access the email using Thunderbird, Dovecot moves all new mail from somefolder/new to somefolder/cur, thereby making mutt flag all my new mail as 'O' ("old") which was flagged 'N' ("new") before. If I remember which the new mails were, I can flag them as 'N' in mutt, and they get moved to .../new again, but this isn't usually the case because my mailboxen are often large (> 10.000 messages), and it's undone as soon as I access the mailbox with Thunderbird (over IMAPS). I also have a wish list. Both Mutt and Dovecot (can) make use of index files to speed mail access. It would be great if this could be unified so that both programs use the same index files (in a consistent manner, of course). Hi List, last time i did a lot of packaging and installing different versions of dovecot 1.0.x (rc not included ;) )and all was fine. Now a have a little problem. But it seems that it was not first pop-login after dovecot update. Update time was 14:57 Uhr. Pop-Login which "created" this mails was 3rd after update. It is not a big problem, seems to happens one only time but i want to know the backgrounds. Do you need further data? [Dovecot] Can I stop users from creating and renaming folders?

Hello I have a Dovecot IMAP account running. It's a shared account between a few people. I want to stop users being able to rename existing folders and to stop them creating new ones. I've searched for this, so I suspect the answer is no. Is it possible? Hello everybody! I'm trying to configure dovecot 1.1.1 with different proxy hosts and/or ports for different protocols (IMAP, POP3). I'm using LDAP for authentication. [Dovecot] How to pull /var/mail mbox leftovers to Maildirs?

I just got my preferred postfix+dovecot(-1.1.1) configuration working on Ubuntu 8.04 server. Users and Maildirs migrated, etc. I wasn't seeing inbound mail (in the email client) until I set: sudo postconf -e 'home_mailbox = Maildir/' Which I hadn't needed in the previous server's main.cf I have a few hours worth of inbound mostly-spam in /var/mail/(username) during the time I was figuring this out. What command line tools could I use to pull those message from the mboxes to the Maildirs? Thanks.

The messages are from one to other moment in mbox, there is no delivering by postfix etc. this is completely new to me. Hmm.... Hello all. Sorry for a lot of question - im making a new mail system now. Im wondering how to auth different MUA. For example Thunderbird & The Bat 4.x - CRAM-MD5 MS Outlook 2007 - DIGEST-MD5 Im create a 3 users and store passwords in LDAP using MD5-CRYPT(1), CRYPT(2) and MD5(3) - for tests. [Dovecot] 1.1 namespaces and message corruption

Hello, I've been trying out the new dovecot's namespace support, and I'm having some issues moving messages between namespaces. Specifically, when I move some messages from a Maildir-based namespace to an mbox-based namespace, the message gets corrupted: its contents are removed, and an entirely empty message is added to the destination mailbox. This is 100% repeatable (some messages just *cannot* be copied intact). I have two namespaces, set up like so: namespace private { # Default separator = . hidden = no inbox = yes prefix = location = maildir:%h/Maildir } namespace private { separator = . hidden = no prefix = "INBOX.ArchiveTest." location = mbox:%h/Maildir/Archive } All I do is tell my client (mutt) to copy a message from a folder in the maildir namespace into a folder in the mbox namespace. Does anyone know what might be going wrong or how I can even debug this? No error messages of any kind are showing up in the dovecot log file, and the mail_debug setting doesn't seem to give me any useful information. Hi I am needing a bit more detail on IMAP protocol and setup possibilities (for an application in mind). I note that 'The Book of IMAP' has recently been published in English (May 08). It seems to be focused on Cyrus IMAP rather than Dovecot. Does anyone on the list have the book? Is the book's treatment of Cyrus IMAP much different from Dovecot? Thanks for any comments. Bob G

Hi, I've been trying some benchmarks to compare 1.0 vs 1.1 -this is the easiest way to explain the move to my boss-, so I've compiled dovecot 1.1 and imaptest-20080627 in my secondary machine running RHEL4, with homes in NFS, indeces in local files and control files also in NFS. Then I've created 100 new users imaptest001-imaptest100, and set the password paquitoelchocolatero to all of them. [Dovecot] Can't create subfolders when activating namespaces, e.g. private/public

Hi, i am using hardy dovecot, 1.0.10. If i enable namespaces (the private and a public one) i am unable to create new subfolders in my private namespace, only top level folders works. There is nothing in the log about that error even if i set mail_debug = yes. If i comment out everything (no namespaces at all, implicit private one), it works again. Any hints whats going wrong, why is my client getting the message about not being able to create this subfolder? kinds regards Torsten

Hi, I use a non-root user to run auth program and get an error: auth-worker.18163) failed: Permission denied and cannot start dovecot. But with the same configration at another server, it works fine. If I use root, it works also. Any help? Hi, I've upgraded mail server to dovecot-1.1, on solaris-10 with mysql user database. I used sql query "SELECT NULL as password, login as user, concat('/mail/var/dovecot/',login) AS userdb_home, 501 AS userdb_uid, 501 AS userdb_gid FROM users WHERE login='%n' AND password=old_password('%w')" with dovecot-1.0.15 and it worked perfectly. But since upgrade the server can not authenticate any users, complaining in info_log: "Empty password returned without no_password". How to set up such things in dovecot-1.1? We have noticed off and on all school year that every so often a user gets an email that they just can't delete using Thunderbird or Outlook over IMAP (we do not support Pop3 anymore.) Essentially the user clicks the email and takes it to the trash. When they empty the trash the email appears again in their inbox as if it was new! Up until this point I would just tell people to login to Usermin which is still set to access the email natively through the maildir format and delete it that way. What we have found out is that emails which have their info fields repeated twice are emails which can't be deleted. They will do the thing I described above. If I remove one of the info fields they can be deleted. We also found if we create a fake email and name it "test:2,ae:2,Sae" it too will have the nondelete problem. Unfortunately I don't know how or why these emails are created. As far as the vitals go: We are running Dovecot 1.0.14 now, but I have been able to observe this problem through a few of the last versions. The server runs Slamd 64 10.2 (Opteron 64 CPUs) and all of the home directories are on a ReiserFS formatted Volume Anything else I can tell you please let me know and of course any info anybody can tell me about how to make this weirdness go away would be greatly appreciated. [Dovecot] Poor pop3 over nfs performance

Hi, About a week ago I upgraded our reasonably heavily loaded mail servers from a pretty recent courier version to dovecot-1.1rc10. IMAP performance on dovecot is amazing, however POP3 performance is worse than courier :-( I have uploaded some munin graphs taken today to http://linweb.atlas.pipex.net/dovecot/; the dovecot server is handling about 2000 pop logins/sec and 300 imap sessions (but these are negligible in terms of nfs ops). The courier server is handling a similar number of pop logins/sec but no imap (slightly less traffic overall but a similar number of logins). As you can see, dovecot seems to issue an awful lot more read requests than courier. The big spike at 10am is where I tried setting the :INDEX=MEMORY flag on dovecot as I assumed that's what courier is doing. I've also attached graphs of the relative network usage - as you can see, dovecot is using up to 100mbps whereas courier is using less than 10mbps; I believe this is due to the read. I initially assumed this high read load was due to courier building up its index files, but this has now been happening for about a week with little variation. The servers are both centos 5.0 (perhaps 5.1 actually, but with the latest centosplus kernel which fixes the nfs lookup bug in the standard kernels); and are not running any other nfs programs. The NFS server is a high performance NAS unit - no issues there. We're only using Maildirs; relevant config options are: mmap_disable: yes dotlock_use_excl: no mail_nfs_storage: yes mail_nfs_index: yes lock_method: dotlock maildir_copy_preserve_filename: yes Thanks, Mark

Hi Timo, Regarding our conversation in IRC, I'm attaching the uidlist and copying in the original message just in case. I'm using dovecot version 1.0.13 on reiserfs on hardware RAID-0, but I'm getting the following error in the logs every time one user tries to access his old mails in the .Sent directory: dovecot: 2008-06-23 15:09:46 Error: IMAP(marek.chajecki): Invalid data in file /var/mail/Maildir/marek.chajecki/.Sent/dovecot-uidlist As a result he fails to get access to the emails in this folder. I've googled a bit and read that deleting the uidlist makes dovecot recreate it, but after some time the same thing happens. It's a new hard drive, so I don't think this is a hard drive fault. Some additional info: this server is being used by about 200 users who get about 100 emails daily each one of them. Hi, I tried the FTS (and FTS Squat) plugin today, and it works as advertised. But: On my 13000 folders with 160000 mails maildir I use for testing, the speed increase is not as big as one would wish (it still takes several minutes to complete a search). Is my assumption correct, that there is no way to do a search over a big IMAP folder hierarchy in a reasonable amount of time, because each folder has to be 'selected', and only one folder can be selected at once? Hi, It seems my previous mail has been lost, I apologize if this is a duplicate. I am using Dovecot 1.1.1 with user's INBOX in /var/mail and other folders in their home directories. I have setup file system quota on /var/mail to limit their usage. I would like dovecot to display such information in IMAP client and ignore all others. OS: Solaris 10 Dovecot version : 1.1.1 file system of /var/mail : NFS from Solaris file system of /home : other NFS server that not support rquotad. The error message below appears in the system log quite frequently. I have run a test which shows that this message is due to 2 or more users accessing the same mail (i.e connecting using the same userid). This happens for various reasons including the fact that some users have their client machine set up (typically using Thunderbird) with more than one account within a single Thunderbird configuration. Thus, more than one person may be reading or sending mail from a single Dovecot account. [Dovecot] Dovecot index, NFS, and multiple architectures

Hi all, I crawled through the archives for a bit but didn't see anything helpful, so I apologize if this has already been addressed. We've been dying to move from Courier to Dovecot across our whole infrastructure for quite some time, but until recently our setup wasn't possible until this happened: "Dovecot allows mailboxes and their indexes to be modified by multiple computers at the same time, while still performing well. This means that Dovecot works with NFS and clustered filesystems." Now that NFS is officially supported, we figured why not make the switch. All of our mail touches NFS in some way, so we need to check on the stability before completely migrating. In test trials we're having issues with the NFS'd index becoming corrupted. Here's the setup: * Linux workstations running Fedora 8/9 i386 and a locally called Dovecot 1.0.14 * NFS'd homedir with Maildir setup * NFS is on Solaris 9 sparcv9 (64bit) running Dovecot 1.0.14 Now this setup is just a test example and not exactly what we'll be running in production, but it tipped up the problem either way. Since the index is shared by both the Linux i386 machine and the sparc64 Solaris machine, if mail is accessed from both, lets say with Pine for example, the index becomes corrupted and breaks. As long as only one architecture only ever touches it there are no issues. I'm assuming this is an endian issue, which would make the most sense. Is there a way around this with flags or server options? Is this something that has maybe been addressed in 1.1.0? Unfortunately, we are not going to be able to move to Dovecot across all of our systems until this is no longer an issue. We run a lot of mixed environments that have everything from Linux i386/x86_64 to Solaris 9 64 to Windows. If a user accesses IMAP from a Windows box, then logs into the front end which is a Linux x86_64 box and runs Pine, and all of this is on a Solaris sparc NFS system, we're going to have serious issues with the index. ;) Any help would be appreciated. Hi all, I wanna to set up shared folders for a couple of users and I'd like that everyone could keep the \Seen flag as private. So if user #1 reads some messages and user #2 not, those messages appear as "unseen" to #2 and "seen" to #1. I've implemented shared folders using namespaces with every user having their own "control" and "private" directories. But all the flags (\Seen included) are "shared". Am I on the right path? Just upgraded to Dovecot 1.1 and thought I'd try out managesieve plugin. My situation is I have two front end proxy boxes and four storage nodes in the back. I have been able to load the managesieve plugin just like I should on the storage nodes, but not on the proxy boxes. My proxy boxes have multiple server sections to deal with unique configurations for 5-7 different mail domains: server mail.host1.com { listen a.b.c.d protocols = imap imaps pop3 pop3s ..... } server mail.host2.com { listen a.b.c.e protocols = imap pop3 .... } If I add the managesieve to the protocols line like I do on my storage nodes, I get this: Error: Can't access mail module directory: /usr/local/lib/dovecot/managesieve: No such file or directory Funny thing is /usr/local/lib/dovecot/managesieve does not exist on the the proxy boxes. It also does not exist on the storage boxes where managesieve loaded just fine. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions? -c

Hi all, We've been running Dovecot since December '07 with with no glitches. It's a great solid piece of software, thanks so much Timo!! I thought I'd try out 1.1.1, so I brought it down and tried compiling it on AIX, using the IBM compiler, xlc. It's what I've used all along. Hi, I'm coming from courier-imap and i'm trying to migrate to dovecot. I can't find how to create a maildir with a quota file(maildirsize) I saw that if there was a maildirsize it would get its quota from there but can't find how to create that file. I'm using pam auth and would like to set different quotas for each users. With courier-imap there is a useful command : maildirmake -q 100000S Maildir/ to assign a quota to a maildir.
