Oh, I forgot to mention that if I turn on plain text authentication, it works fine. But I'd to do TLS over the net. -Charlie ----- On Friday, March 31, 2006 fishgills(a)fishgills.net wrote: > Are there any how-tos or documentation on getting dovecot to be > thunderbird/outlook friendly? > > Thunderbird can connect about 20% of the time, the other 80% of the time, I > Get the error: > > "You may need to connect via SSL or TLS. [Dovecot] Repot: Problems with Fedora core 5, Dovecot and Thunderbird - is this a Dovecot bete3 bug?
by Robert Hart 31 Mar '06

31 Mar '06

Hi One Wed I posted the following message and have had no replies. I am reposting as I think this is a Dovecot bug but I am not sure. If anyone can assist on this I'd be most grateful. Tks ----------------------------------------------------- Hi I am testing FC5 before upgrading my main server and I am getting errors with dovecot 1.0 beta3 - both the distributed RPM and also the one at ATrpms and thunderbird (the distributed version which is thunderbird-1.5-6) I am running both dovecot and thunderbird on the same machine, pointing thunderbird at 127.0.0.1 for its imap server. The symptoms are an inability to access mail - thunderbird just keeps on trying and getting nowhere and even if I shut down thunderbird on the client, it still leaves processes running that have to be killed by hand. In the maillog I get Mar 29 09:17:25 bree dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<hartr>, method=plain, rip=::ffff:127.0.0.1, lip=::ffff:127.0.0.1, secured Mar 29 09:17:25 bree dovecot: imap(hartr): mbox sync: UID inserted in the middle of mailbox /var/mail/hartr (8 > 1, seq=2, idx_msgs=4) Mar 29 09:17:25 bree dovecot: imap(hartr): file mbox-sync-update.c: line 55 (mbox_sync_move_buffer): assertion failed: (ctx->mail.offset + ctx->mail.space <= ctx->hdr_offset + pos || ctx->mail.offset > ctx->hdr_offset + pos + have) Mar 29 09:17:26 bree dovecot: child 14242 (imap) killed with signal 6 When I point this thunderbird at my main (dovecot 0.99) server everything is fine, which seems to suggest that this is a dovecot problem and not a thunderbird one. Can anyone give me any pointers on this please as it's a show stopper for upgrading my main server. Tks -- Robert Hart hartr(a)interweft.com.au +61 (0)438 385 533 http://www.hart.wattle.id.au

[Dovecot] Courier to Dovecot Maildir converstion
by Jeff S. 31 Mar '06

31 Mar '06

Hello, I am running Dovecot 0.99 on OpenSuse 10.0. Previously, I was running courier IMAP with vpopmail on Suse 9.3. In the process of the change, I decided to sing MySQL to authenticate the users, provide home dir, uid and gid. I tar'ed up the old mail directories, moved them to the new server, added a new user and group to own the files, set the files uid/gid to match the values in the db. Next, I followed the Migration directions on http://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration. I can successfully authenticate the new users, have no errors in the log file but when I am logged in I only see the Inbox. There should be other folders as well as mail in the inbox. No errors in the log files. Any ideas?

[Dovecot] Authentication Problem MD5 hashs
by Fabrizio Steiner 31 Mar '06

31 Mar '06

Hello I've migrated to dovecot-1.0beta3 and I have taken over the password files from an older system. For some reason the md5 hashs have "[" chars in the salt. For example like this $1$[xxxXX[E$bg/d4JdSSf2kTL8sXXxXXX Now the problem is that in the file src/auth/db-passwd-file.c on line 43 for libpam-pwdfile compatibility it will be searched for "[" to find the type of the password hash. Then only the hash up to this point will be used in future for comparing the passwords. The problem line. p = pass == NULL ? NULL : strchr(pass, '['); I changed the behavior to always use the complete hash out of the file because I don't use pam. Does anyone know if [ chars are allowed in md5 hashs? Kind Regards Fabrizio Steiner

[Dovecot] Custom Quotas
by Andrew Barrow 31 Mar '06

31 Mar '06

Greetings I'm currently working on a design, to integrate an IMAP server into our existing mail architecture. It's proving to be a difficult exercise, mainly because of how we structure our quotas. In our system, the quota covers more than just email. We have a single quota that covers email, ftp directory, and personal homepage. The quota is stored in a mysql database, in a werid table structure. The quota allocation is stored against the user, while the quota usage is stored in 3 rows per user, in a seperate table; One row each for www, email, and ftp per user. I'm currently trying to figure out how we could integrate this quota into Dovecot. I'm quite happy to write plugin to handle updating the quota in our system, but I have no idea where to start. Any information you could provide on updating a quota in a third party system would be much appreciated. Thanks for you help. [Dovecot] userdb prefetch not working for passdb sql

It seems to be ignoring the userdb_* fields. It works when I don't use prefetch, and it also works when I do use prefetch but change the SQL query to return "testuser" instead of "testuser(a)mydomain.com" in the user field. Anyone know why? Here's my dovecot.conf in case it proves useful: first_valid_uid = 900 mail_debug = yes default_mail_env = maildir:%h/.maildir maildir_copy_with_hardlinks = yes protocol imap { login_greeting_capability = yes } protocol pop3 { } auth_verbose = yes auth_debug = yes auth default { mechanisms = plain passdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf } passdb pam { args = "*" } userdb passwd { } userdb prefetch { } user = root } plugin { } Thanks!

[Dovecot] Dovecot abort while selecting INBOX
by Joshua Wise 31 Mar '06

31 Mar '06

Hello all, Recently, I was setting up SpamAssassin and procmail on my system (used to run Courier, and was converted using Courier convert scripts). I was setting up a rule in PINE to filter all previously marked SPAM messages into a folder, when I suddenly got disconnected from the IMAP server. I attempted to reconnect, but any attempts to access my INBOX would disconnect me. I looked in /var/log/mail.log on my server, and found this: Mar 26 12:42:17 dashnine dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<joshua>, method=PLAIN, rip=127.0.0.1, lip=127.0.0.1, secured Mar 26 12:42:17 dashnine dovecot: imap(joshua): Trying to allocate 0 bytes Mar 26 12:42:17 dashnine dovecot: child 31035 (imap) killed with signal 6 Looks like Dovecot aborted. I grabbed a tcpdump of the event after turning off SSL, which is available at http://joshuawise.com/pine.imap.tcpdump . My system is, summarized: * A Linux x86 machine: Linux dashnine 2.6.12.3 #2 Sun Aug 7 18:56:14 EDT 2005 i686 GNU/Linux * A Debian machine: testing/unstable * Running Dovecot from Debian: 1.0.beta3 * Converted from Courier using convert scripts * Using Postfix and Procmail * Using Maildirs in home directories (although in this case, lrwxrwxrwx 1 joshua joshua 23 Mar 11 22:08 Maildir -> /media/Maildirs/joshua/) * Using PINE connecting to Dovecot on localhost to access email Let me know if you want more information, or if you want me to try anything in particular. Thanks, joshua

[Dovecot] Confused about what MTA, MDA, IMAP/POP server to use
by Netlink Tech 31 Mar '06

31 Mar '06

Hello...I'll TRY make this short. This post is not specific to Dovecot...but many subscribers to this list have probably been down this road. (private replies welcome if you want it to go off list) I currently use Sendmail with MailScanner, SpamAssassin, ClamAV, Procmail, and qpopper for POP3 (hash mail dirs for mbox files)on RedHat 9 server. Roaming users currently only have the option of UebiMiau webmail interface to POP3 (doesn't work well) I will be moving to a server with Fedora Core 5.(x86_64) Things I would like to accomplish: 1) Move to maildir mailbox format (currently large mbox files cause I/O flushing errors and problems for users retrieving). 2) Use squirrelmail for webmail (IMAP) (local or roaming users) 3) Enable local users (ones with current accounts on the server) to continue to use their current client setup. 4) Enable any user to use the webmail interface to retrieve/send email. 5) Enable roaming users (ones connected from any location) to use Outlook Express or similar with SMTP_Auth and port 587 for message submission and POP3/IMAP. 6) Enable mail quota. I want the current users to use their current settings (unless they roam...then require that they use webmail or SMTP_Auth and port 587), but moving forward with new users, I have no reason to give them shell access/system accounts....so I was thinking virtual users using user@domain and storing their auth information in mysql db. (mysql will be used for radius...so it is already running on the server). Because I am trying to figure out how to keep the existing users system accounts and move forward with new users only having virtual accounts (just mail access with no login), I don't think I can use file system quotas. I have used Sendmail for 10 years, so I am familiar with it and it has been very stable for me. (so I prefer to stick with it if I can) I rely heavily on MailScanner to scan/mark/clean virus and Procmail to filter marked spam. Qpopper is on the way out...A couple of weeks messing with the test server and I already love Dovecot. Questions: 1) Recommendations please: How to accomplish with what configuration. 2) Quotas? 3) SMTP_Auth using Mysql for virtual users? (works fine with PAM/system passwords) Sorry for not being Dovecot specific on the list. Curt

At the moment when a project finishes we have to move it to another store so that it's not clogging up everyone's public folder list. Allowing people to only see the folders they want is one of the features that has attracted us to shared namespaces. > Unfortunately I don't think it's easy to currently make namespace's > subscriptions exist in another namespace. Don't add it in the TODO - you've already done it (basically). I'd cobbled together a real kludge to use the dovecot-shared permissions on the subscriptions file (kinda - only the group permissions, not the user) and was about to post it to the list when I came across the way you'd already handled it. The subscriptions file is stored in the folder pointed to with the "CONTROL" directive - I just put this to a separate place for every user and it works fine. The only thing that's left is getting this added to the Wiki - I don't think anyone's done that yet. i recently helped a friend of mine migrate from imap-uw using mboxes to dovecot on top of Maildirs and came up against two issues. this is quite embarrassing as ive been claiming dovecot is Solid As A Rock(tm) and hasn't ever given me any issues. 1. if dovecot runs out of file descriptors it will loop forever trying to open new logging pipes. the code in question is at line 624 of src/master/login-process.c 2. we get a sig11 in the imap process. heres the bt: dlg@mail dlg$ gdb -c imap.core /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/imap GNU gdb 6.3 Copyright 2004 Free Software Foundation, Inc. [Dovecot] Realm Stripping
by Michael Baird 29 Mar '06

29 Mar '06

I saw some discussion on this from the middle of last year. Looking through the archives, there didn't seem to be a full solution using a standard dovecot configuration. Did this issue get resolved within dovecot? Will it strip domains from the login presented by the customer. I currently am using dovecot for imap with a webmail system (I strip the domain there before it hits dovecot), but I'd like to replace qpopper with dovecot's pop3, just need to work out the domain stripping bit. [Dovecot] Solution to Dovecot-lda configure problem on RHEL4/FC4
by Tomi Hakala 29 Mar '06

29 Mar '06

Hello, After a long break from Dovecot I finally managed to compile Dovecot-lda on RHEL 4 x86_64 platfrom. For some reason $LIBICONV translates to a @LIBICONV@ on config.status which generates loop for sed. Solution is to manually edit "configure" after autogen.sh. In configure change line s,@LIBICONV@,$LIBICONV,;t t to s,@LIBICONV@,,;t t After this configure finishes succesfully. Tomi

[Dovecot] [PATCH] integrate dovecot LDA into dovecot
by Timo Sirainen 29 Mar '06

29 Mar '06

(ops, messed up the first send, again) > what do you think about replacing the deliver source in dovecot with > deliver from dovecot LDA? It would make it much easier to compile and > deploy dovecot LDA. It would, but I don't want that, at least not currently. My plan is to merge them in some way at some point, but the Sieve code will always be kept out of the main Dovecot tarball as some kind of plugin. The Sieve code is something I don't really want to touch myself, and I don't want it to be included in Dovecot's "1000 EUR for security hole" competition (or whatever it should be called). Since the patch was a bit too large, I didn't accept your original mail to the list.

[Dovecot] new mails don't always show
by Bjoern Rost 29 Mar '06

29 Mar '06

Hi, I am having some trouble with dovecot (0.99.14) and maildir. Some users are reporting that sometimes, they don't get (pop3, various clients) new mails for a while even though they should. I checked and confirmed this: mails were delivered by MTA (sendmail, procmail). But when the problem existed, the new mails were in cur/, not new/ and dovecot would not report any new messaged to the client. A 'solution' was to send another mail to the same account, and ususally this would end up in new/ On the next fetch, this new message and the new ones from cur/ are downloaded. I also had the same problem with imap and evolution today. My inbox showed as empty but there were many messages in cur/ I could access all other folders without a problem during this period. Again, a simple mail to myself 'solved' this. This behaviour does not happen all the time and I don't know how to trigger/reproduce it. Just the relevant (imho) parts of dovecot.conf: login_process_size = 256 login_processes_count = 64 login_max_logging_users = 1024 default_mail_env = maildir:%h/Maildir client_workarounds = outlook-idle oe6-fetch-no-newmail outlook-pop3-no-nuls everything else is set to default values Any ideas/help? [Dovecot] Too many links
by Feraudet Cyril 29 Mar '06

29 Mar '06

Hi all, I've a problem during a big migration to dovecot. I'm not sure that is a really a dovecot bug ... but maybe somebody here know one solution ... I have more than 150000 imap account to migrate from an obscure mail system based on a database to an imap/dovecot system. During the migration (simple but very long process) I get a "Too many links" error from dovecot. This error is not obscure but I'm unable to find a solution with this error on google. I kown the /proc/sys/fs/file-max for increase the number of open file, but it's not the problem here. This probleme occure with more than 130000 directory and more than 350000 file. Have you an idea ? Thank, Cyril Feraudet

[Dovecot] Problems with Fedora core 5, Dovecot and Thunderbird
by Robert Hart 29 Mar '06

29 Mar '06

Hi I am testing FC5 before upgrading my main server and I am getting errors with dovecot 1.0 beta3 - both the distributed RPM and also the one at ATrpms thunderbird (the distributed version which is thunderbird-1.5-6) I am running both dovecot and thunderbird on the same machine, pointing thunderbird at 127.0.0.1 for its imap server. The symptoms are an inability to access mail - thunderbird just keeps on trying and getting nowhere and even if I shut down thunderbird on the client, it still leaves processes running that have to be killed by hand. In the maillog I get Mar 29 09:17:25 bree dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<hartr>, method=plain, rip=::ffff:127.0.0.1, lip=::ffff:127.0.0.1, secured Mar 29 09:17:25 bree dovecot: imap(hartr): mbox sync: UID inserted in the middle of mailbox /var/mail/hartr (8 > 1, seq=2, idx_msgs=4) Mar 29 09:17:25 bree dovecot: imap(hartr): file mbox-sync-update.c: line 55 (mbox_sync_move_buffer): assertion failed: (ctx->mail.offset + ctx->mail.space <= ctx->hdr_offset + pos || ctx->mail.offset > ctx->hdr_offset + pos + have) Mar 29 09:17:26 bree dovecot: child 14242 (imap) killed with signal 6 When I point this thunderbird at my main (dovecot 0.99) server everything is fine, we seems to suggest that this is a dovecot problem and not a thunderbird one. Can anyone give me any pointers on this please as it's a show stopper for upgrading my main server. Tks -- Robert Hart hartr(a)interweft.com.au +61 (0)438 385 533 http://www.hart.wattle.id.au

The following message appeared in the logfile: dovecot: Mar 23 07:00:58 Error: pipe() failed: Too many open files We have one dovecot instance for pop3 and one for imap, so while the pop3-service was still available, the imap-service was not running any more. I've seen a lots of users keeping there imap-connections idle for hours, often more than one per mailbox. How can I limit this? Can I limit the maximum time a connection can be open? Regards Marten

[Dovecot] Re: OS X-centricities? Too many files, temp, indexes, etc...
by Roger Weeks 27 Mar '06

27 Mar '06

We're an ISP with approximately 9000 email customers. Up until early in January our primary mail servers ran on OS X, with exim as the MTA and courier-imap as the pop/imap server. We had continual problems with courier on OS X. The load it generates on the machine is horrible. You'll get absolutely no help from the courier mailing list or developers with OS X issues. When we started evaluating Dovecot, we first attempted it on OS X, however we were unable to get it running in an NFS environement on OS X in any sort of stable manner. I can't recommend highly enough getting off of OS X if you can for mail services. We went to Red Hat machines, and they have been amazingly stable and reliable. I love OS X, and use it for other things, but it makes a bad mail server at least for the volume of mail we process. -- Roger J. [Dovecot] LDA sieve library
by Luca Corti 27 Mar '06

27 Mar '06

Hello, is the LDA linked against the Cyrus SIEVE library or against the fork at libsieve.sourceforge.net ? It seems Cyrus SIEVE from src/libsieve/README in the lda sources. libsieve seems to be better suited for inclusion in non-cyrus software and should be completely independent from libcyrus. The README for cyrus version of libsieve also states that: "It should compile without libcyrus, but then it does not implement the "address" test." thanks -- Luca Corti PGP Key ID 1F38C091 BOFH excuse of the moment: Interference from the Van Allen Belt.

[Dovecot] %d empty even though username has @domain
by William Ross 26 Mar '06

26 Mar '06

hello, Sorry to jump straight in with a question, but I've searched the archive[0] and I'm pretty sure the answer's not there. I'm using dovecot to replace courier imap, so authentication is by vpopmail and the Maildirs are stored in the usual domains/domain/user/ Maildir. Everything seems to work very well, and setting it up has been easy, so thank you very much for that. I have only one problem left: %d is empty when interpolated into default_mail_env. I expect there's something obvious I'm doing wrong, but it's hard to tell because the wiki isn't always up to date (i'd be happy to update the vpopmail sections once this is working): Config has this [1]: default_mail_env = maildir:/home/vpopmail/domains/%d/%n/Maildir and i log in over imaps with the account i'm using for testing: username: sysadmin(a)spanner.org password: ... Authentication seems to work perfectly, but then the logs show: dovecot: Dec 05 12:24:59 Info: imap(sysadmin): maildir: root=/home/ vpopmail/domains//sysadmin/Maildir, index=/home/vpopmail/domains// sysadmin/Maildir, control=, inbox= any suggestions, please? thank you, will [0] This has come up before: http://dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2005- June/007530.html [1] the rest of dovecot.conf, less comments: base_dir = /var/run/dovecot protocols = imaps log_path = /var/log/dovecot mail_debug = yes protocol imap { } protocol pop3 { } auth_verbose = yes auth default { mechanisms = plain passdb vpopmail { args = } userdb vpopmail { } userdb prefetch { } user = root } namespace private { separator = . prefix = INBOX. inbox = yes } default_mail_env = maildir:/home/vpopmail/domains/%d/%n/Maildir pop3_uidl_format = %v-%u ssl_cert_file = /usr/local/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem ssl_key_file = /usr/local/ssl/private/dovecot.pem

Thanks but for mbox it is ".subscriptions", "subscriptions" is for maildir, but I found the BUG !!! ~/mail/.subscriptions is on an NFS mounted filesystem, it keeps on getting deleted... does not like NFS (the files are renamed .nfsXXXXX when deleted) if I patch the code to get it on a local filesystem, like my indexes (in storage->index_dir instead of storage->dir): /var/indexes/%u/.subscriptions then it stays alive and work. [Dovecot] Clash between multiple authentication databases (security problem?)
by dovecot-ri 26 Mar '06

26 Mar '06

Hi all, I just installed dovecot-1.0_beta2 and love it! However, I've run into issues using multiple authentication databases. I use both pam (for users on my system) and sql (for virtual users). I've noticed that if I have system user "userabc" and virtual user "userabc(a)otherdomain.com" (two distinct users) and my "auth default" section contains these passdb/userdb entries in this order (the order in the example config): passdb pam passdb sql userdb pam userdb sql then when userabc(a)otherdomain.com logs in, he'll get the system user userabc's mail instead of his own. It appears that the sql password check succeeds, then Dovecot grabs the home directory from pam, NOT sql. I can work around this by setting up "userdb prefetch" and adding that section *before* "userdb pam". If I put "userdb prefetch" after "userdb pam" or after "userdb sql", then Dovecot doesn't actually do the prefetch (which causes an error since Dovecot issues the default SQL query for "user_query", which my MySQL database doesn't like). Is there a safer way to do this? If not, should there be? Thanks! Richard ====================================================== complete working dovecot.conf: ====================================================== first_valid_uid = 900 mail_debug = yes default_mail_env = maildir:%h/.maildir maildir_copy_with_hardlinks = yes protocol imap { login_greeting_capability = yes } protocol pop3 { } auth_debug = yes auth default { mechanisms = plain passdb pam { args = "*" } passdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf } userdb prefetch { } userdb passwd { } userdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf } user = root } ====================================================== dovecot-sql.conf: ====================================================== driver = mysql connect = host=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock user=mail password=** dbname=mail default_pass_scheme = SSHA password_query = <query that returns user, password, userdb_home, userdb_uid, userdb_gid>

Going CVS, can we build and install dovecot-lda and keep the dovecot executable the way it is? Or do we have to rebuild the dovecot executable from the CVS tree too? Thank you. Marilyn Davis

[Dovecot] Some moved or copied messages get stuck in tmp
by Luis Meléndez 26 Mar '06

26 Mar '06

Hello. I have seen in recent posts that there are other people with this problem, and it is very important for me, as it is the only cause for not putting Dovecot in production in all mail servers in my University. When moving/copying messages, some of them get stuck in the tmp directory of the destination folder, effectively lost for the user. I have been tracing the problem, and it looks that it happens with messages that have flags. The others don't have problems. But if I copy/move several flagged messages, one of them is copied, and the others are kept in tmp. In maildir-save.c there is the following comment: /* if we have flags, we'll move it to cur/ directly, because files in new/ directory can't have flags. alternative would be to write it in new/ and set the flags dirty in index file, but in that case external MUAs would see wrong flags. */ that looks like a clue. It happens with CVS versions 20060320 and 20060325 I hace done almost all tests with Thunderbird. [Dovecot] OS X-centricities? Too many files, temp, indexes, etc...
by Dean Blackburn 25 Mar '06

25 Mar '06

I'm just writing to see if anyone else is seeing the following issues, and particularly if they are running OS X (especially 10.4), and/or have compatible solutions (I've been reading the mailing list quite a bit, and every now and then, I find a solution that just "doesn't work" because of the differences in OS: 1) Too many files open - no plimit command on OS X, so I can't figure out how to increase the max number of open files... Also, are there any alternative means of CLOSING the files? stopping/restarting dovecot didn't seem to help; 2) I was running 1.0beta1 last week, and am now on 1.0beta3, but I'm still not seeing corrupt indexes/other dovecot files rebuilding themselves. I really can't stick with this solution if I'll always have to worry about manually fixing broken caches/indexes. 3) Any advice on fcntl/flock on OS X, particularly? They both appear to work, but I'd prefer to use the fastest/least resource intensive options for everything if possible. Thanks! -deano

[Dovecot] Corrupted transaction log file dovecot.index.log: unexpected end of file while reading header
by Matthias Saou 25 Mar '06

25 Mar '06

Hi, I'm using dovecot 1.0.0beta3 on a RHEL4 x86_64 server. I'm seeing this error each and every time a user checks his emails : Mar 15 18:19:34 s1 dovecot: pop3-login: Login: user=<user@domain>, method=PLAIN, rip=::ffff:195.x.x.x, lip=::ffff:195.x.x.x Mar 15 18:19:34s1 dovecot: pop3(user@domain): Corrupted transaction log file /home/vmail/domain/user/dovecot.index.log: unexpected end of file while reading header Mar 15 18:19:34 s1 dovecot: pop3(user@domain): Logout. top=0/0, retr=0/ del=0/2, size=1213 From my basic testing, this seemed harmless. But after putting this in production, it appears that when emails are retrieved, long ones always get truncated after a few kB, changing attachments into garbage :-( Has anyone seen this problem before? Any ideas what could be causing this? [Dovecot] Segfault when parsing configuration on x86_64
by Matthias Saou 25 Mar '06

25 Mar '06

Hi, Using the exact same build of 1.0.beta3, one i386 and the other x86_64, I get segfaults upon startup with the x86_64 version when using the exact same dovecot.conf file. Here is the error : # dovecot -F Unexpected eof found when reading file 'UNOPENED' (Errcode: 0) Segmentation fault (core dumped) And the backtrace (I don't have symbols for all libs, sorry) : (gdb) bt #0 i_stream_next_line (stream=0x52c3a8) at istream.c:182 #1 0x000000000040e345 in i_stream_read_next_line (stream=0x52c3a8) at istream.c:201 #2 0x000000000040aaa9 in settings_read (path=0x41798e "/etc/dovecot.conf", section=0x0, callback=0x409580 <parse_setting>, sect_callback=0x409a50 <parse_section>, context=0x7fbffff880) at settings.c:222 #3 0x000000000040a0e1 in master_settings_read ( path=0x41798e "/etc/dovecot.conf", nochecks=false) at master-settings.c:1159 #4 0x000000000040875a in main (argc=2, argv=0x7fbffffa18) at main.c:762 #5 0x0000003d4341c4bb in __libc_start_main () from /lib64/tls/libc.so.6 #6 0x000000000040357a in _start () #7 0x0000007fbffffa08 in ?? () The really weird part is that I've managed to get my dovecot.conf in a state where the problem no longer happens, but simply adding a line with '#', or removing trailing spaces (normally harmless) on some config lines makes the error re-appear. My quick guess would be that something is wrong with the config file parser on 64bit archs... Actually, I've just made some more tests, and it is "partially" reproducible on i386. In this part of my configuration : auth default { mechanisms = plain passdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot-mysql.conf } userdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot-mysql.conf } } There is a trailing space on both "args = ..." lines. Well, if I remove them, I get this message with the i386 build. When I put them back, all is fine again. [Dovecot] Per-user "Seen" flags with shared namespace stored as maildir?
by Mark Lidstone 25 Mar '06

25 Mar '06

Hi all, I was wondering if the above was possible. I know that the "seen" flag is stored in the filename, but was wondering if anyone knew of a way to separate it out? I know this would strictly-speaking break maildir compatibility, but it would be extremely useful for shared folders. I've been given the task of replacing the (extremely heavily used) shared folders functionality of our Exchange server and have almost everything working. I have authentication working against AD, shared folders, per-user subscriptions, "mail enabled folder" functionality and seem to have sorted all the other permissions issues I've been having. Apart from a nice easy-to-use front end for changing folder permissions this is the last thing I can think of that I need to look into before I can show this to my boss.
