[Dovecot] help with expire plugin

Dear All, I am using version 2.0 and willing to use expire plugin in my setup but unable to set it up correctly. Here is the relevant part from output of doveconf -n # 2.0.0: /usr/local/dovecot/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf # OS: Linux 2.6.26-2-686 i686 Debian 5.0.6 base_dir = /usr/local/dovecot/var/run/dovecot/ dict { expire = mysql:/etc/dovecot/dovecot-dict-sql.conf.ext } mail_plugins = quota acl expire virtual namespace { inbox = yes location = prefix = separator = . type = private } plugin { expire = Trash 7 Spam 30 expire_dict = proxy::expire } } protocol imap { mail_plugins = $mail_plugins imap_acl autocreate imap_quota } I have also created the database and tables for mysql and made the following change in dovecot-dict-sql.conf.ext file connect = host=localhost dbname=mails user=root password=xxxxxx map { pattern = shared/expire/$user/$mailbox table = expires value_field = expire_stamp fields { username = $user mailbox = $mailbox } } I am not getting any error in log file and expire is not working too please let me know the issue ... [Dovecot] Why deliver+usercheck? deliver+MTA?

Hi, I successfully configured dovecot using virtual users (and LDAP/AD). deliver is the LDA and verifies if the user exists (as recommended in the WIKI). However, the howtos in the Wiki say *nothing* about the case that the recipients should be verified *before* receiving the messages (prevent backscatter, ...). All configurations in the dovecot-Wiki (postfix and exim) just accept the mails and pass them to deliver. Also, all howtos which I found on the web. If the user does not exist, the mail is bounced because the mail was already accepted by the MTA. Nowadays this is an unacceptable configuration! Is there a special reason why there is no discussion about this? However, as postfix seems to be really too unflexible I have set up exim to handle incoming mail and do the usercheck in the router (with an LDAP query). But now the user is doubled-checked: Once when receiving with exim and a second time in deliver. This is not necessary, so I guess I can disable the LDAP query for deliver and set up a static userdb. Why does the Wiki recommened to verfify with deliver when the user needs to be checked at the MTA anyway? Regards, Luke

[Dovecot] Pigeonhole feature request: automatically copy sieve_global_path (default script) to user's sieve_dir

We have used the great managesieve you have merged together, with sieve, to create pigeonhole. However, when a user creates a custom script through a GUI of ours, the default, as we expected, would be ignored. Maybe you could add a retain_sieve_global=yes|no setting OR be more complex by having the sieve_global_dir copied to the users sieve_dir on first managesieve script save, if another setting to do this was set to yes. This way the administrators can create a skeleton directory and the users can retain the default skeleton settings. Maybe, in the future, you can do, just like the master auth for logging into users' imap accounts, you could have the master=yes allow login to each user's managesieve. Just some suggestions but, until a new feature comes around, I will have a cron job or a imap-login script do the trick. Timo has said that you are a separate developer from dovecot. SoI had a hell of a time converting my qmail install to dovecot 2.0.5, so I thought I'd pass on what I learned. 1. When using vpopmail, do not use " --disable-many-domains". If you do, you'll need to recompile vpopmail without that setting and use the script found at http://qmailrocks.thibs.com/downloads/scripts/migrate-vpopmail-many-domains to collapse the tables. 2. Switch to mysql authentication. The following snippet works well. driver = mysql connect = host=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock user=vpopmail password=YOURPASS dbname=vpopmail default_pass_scheme = PLAIN password_query = SELECT CONCAT(pw_name, '@', pw_domain) AS user, pw_clear_passwd AS password FROM vpopmail WHERE pw_name = '%n' AND pw_domain = '%d' user_query = SELECT pw_dir as home, 1008 AS uid, 1003 AS gid FROM vpopmail WHERE pw_name = '%n' AND pw_domain = '%d' 3. When integrating Sieve, vpopmail apparently needs to own auth-master and authdb. (example available on request) 4. If coming from maildrop as the LDA, you can put the following in your maildroprc to allow a gentler transition (or to keep maildrop's ability to call external applications) `test -r /usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver` if ( $RETURNCODE == 0) { `test -r $HOME/$EXT/.sieve` if ( $RETURNCODE == 0) { to "| /usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver -d $EXT@$USER" } } 5. When completely switching, you can either replace the .qmail files or use one of the following in qmail/control/defaultdelivery |/var/qmail/bin/preline -f /usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver -d $EXT@$USER |/var/qmail/bin/preline -f /usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver -d ${EXT/-*}@$USER -a $EXT@$USER -- This should allow a final conversion to vpopmail 5.5 (from 5.4.30) with dovecot 2.0.x.. I haven't done that final step yet, but it should now work. Anyhow, I hope this saves someone a few days of head scratching. a.

Hi, I am running both IMAP/POP3 services. Recently, the POP3 users started complaining of slow performance. I tried to resolve it by advising them to trim their inbox, but to no avail. [Dovecot] Dovecot Version 1.2.12 Slow IMAP LIST Question

We are using Dovecot 1.2.12, FreeBSD 8.1 Stable, & SquirrelMail 1.4.21 Our problem is that SquirrelMail works fine inside our Network, but from the outside SquirrelMail times out before it can display the inbox contents. SquirrelMail times out for everyone, all of the time. In troubleshooting we have observed the following: >From the inside, if I telnet into Dovecot IMAP and issue ? LIST "" "*" I get an instant list of my folders. If I do the above from the outside, the LIST command slowly lists 10 - 15 entries and stops, then pauses for what seems to be 30 seconds to a minute, then lists another 10 - 15 entries. After about 5 minutes of this it finally times out. An interesting note is, when it stops listing and pauses, it doesn't stop at the end of a line (folder entry), it stops half way through a line entry. For example, say the folder entry is mailfolder/folder1/folder2, when it stops I see mailfolder/fol I don't think this is a SquirrelMail issue because of the IMAP LIST problem. We have turned on debugging, but the logs really don't show much, just the timeout. Can anyone offer additional troubleshooting to help us track down this issue? Thanks
