Steps to reproduce: 0 login userid password 1 select myfavoritemailbox 2 sort (FROM) UTF-8 ALL I tested alpha5 and it works fine. Here is the trace of beta1. I see many adds in revision 8726(hg annotate mail-storage.c), but that line number(674) is very old. So it might be a local problem. All fail but 777. ps -ef|grep exim shows that exim is run by user 101. A look into /etc/group reveals the user as libuuid. Debian-exim is user 103. Could this be what is causing my problems? Hi list I am just experimenting with seting up my own email server. I want some tips and hints on how to secure my setup to prevent unauthorised assess to my email. I have read through the wiki and have not found many tips. I hope to improve the wiki with tips gathered from the emailing list. :-) A basic measurement I could take right now would be to set more secure file premissions on my setup. My setup is based on http://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/VirtualhostingWithExim with a few addittions: fetchmail and exim4 deliver mail to my maildir and dovecot grants me access through imap. dovecot authenticates against /home/postmaster/passwd.digest and ./passwd.cram -- Daniel Aleksandersen <aleksandersen(a)runbox.no>

[Dovecot] Calling dovecot deliver from procmail

I came up with this trick That is Since my previous mail server had a bunch of complex procmail recipies and I am not sure that I can turn them into sieve scripts I am calling dovecot deliver to drop mail in it's final $DEFAULT destination. :0 | /some/path/dovecot/deliver in order to update the index, control files etc upon delivery time. So far in my "tests" it works. But I wonder if this is wise or not. Regards, Harry.

[Dovecot] Dovecot problem after last Debian sid update

Hi All, After upgrading dovecot for sid Thunderbird no longer displays the contents of any emails I have had a working IMAP setup for as much as a year even though I don't understand dovecot configuration well enough to know how I got it to go in the first place. [Dovecot] OT: Fixing Messages To Be RFC 2822 Compliant

So....apparently I have some messages which are not RFC compliant sitting in my mailboxes (mostly older ones), and I have some software which is refusing to handle such messages. 1. Does anyone know of a nice way to verify that all my messages are compliant/find those that aren't? (I suppose I could use the existing failing software, but I was hoping for something a little more robust...) 2. Does anyone know of any tools that will do The Right Thing as far as fixing these messages are concerned? Googling didn't turn up much for me, but maybe I wasn't hitting the right terms ("RFC message repair", "fix email message", etc.). Thanks.

Hi I think there is a technical reason for this, but I am not sure. My IMAP client shows a folder called INDEX. This is my maildir. I wonder if it is possible to change the name of this folder to something else? -- Daniel

Inspired by the "Dovecot as a email storage system" thread... Is there a way to instruct Dovecot go into read-only mode for an account, or a mailbox? Could I maybe fake it by setting perms on the maildir directory to 440?
