[Dovecot] Strange and sudden deletion of mails messages
by נור דאוד 06 Nov '08

06 Nov '08

Hello everyone, I'm having a bizarre problem (bug?) concerning deletion of messages from one of the mailboxes. The platform is set up as follows: FreeBSD 7-STABLE Postfix 2.6-20080411 Dovecot 1.0.13 Webmail using RoundCube 0.1-STABLE The trace (in Postfox logs) revealed that the message has been actually received, and saved to maildir, and then viewed once in Webmail. Hitting Reply in Webmail produced an error, and the letter (somehow) was nowhere to be found on the server! I have no clue what's the cause of this. Is there a way in Dovecot to catch all commands sent to the server, thus revealing who in effect deleted the message? Thanks in advance. Noor

[Dovecot] feature request for dovecot 1.2 Master users/passwords for virtual domain admins
by Robert Schetterer 06 Nov '08

06 Nov '08

Hi Timo, currently superadmins can be configured in dovecot i.e in mysql as "superadmins" this means the can log in in any mailbox on the server this is a very nice feature in real world scenarios specially for support people in postfixadmin i.e there are also defined domainadmins ( this is for delegate usermail creation/delete etc in the postfixadmingui ) in mysql it would be nice to have or simply use postfixadmins mysql domainadmins in mysql table entries to login for domainadmins only login to mailboxes of their related maildomain this would be also massiv helpfull for postmasters/support people in a full virtual setup perhaps you might get this in dovecot 1.2 before closing at beta stage -- Best Regards MfG Robert Schetterer Germany/Munich/Bavaria

[Dovecot] How do I use plus-addressing in Dovecot 1.1.x?
by Jon Fullmer 06 Nov '08

06 Nov '08

I'm using Postfix, Amavisd-new/SpamAssassin, and Dovecot. They all run on the same server (running Linux). The mailboxes are stored on the same server in maildir format. The logical path for incoming messages (as I understand it) is: 1) received by Postfix; handed off to Amavisd-new 2) Amavisd-new checks to see whether or not it's spam/undesirable; hands off to Dovecot deliver 3) Dovecot deliver delivers the message to the local mailbox Under each of my user's mailbox is a submailbox called "spam". Just so I don't confuse terminologies (I'm no IMAP/maildir expert), for example, we have someone(a)domain.com. My configured mail_location is "maildir:/srv/mail/%d/%n", so this person's mailbox is located here: / srv/mail/domain.com/someone/ Within this directory is another mailbox: /srv/mail/domain.com/someone/.spam/ The plan is to have Dovecot deliver send a message (which has been labeled by Amavisd-new as spam) directly to the ".spam" submailbox, instead of the INBOX (/srv/mail/domain.com/someone/). With Dovecot 1.0.x, I used "plus addressing". Amavisd-new was configured so that, if a message was found to be spam, it delivered the message to Dovecot deliver, but changed the delivery address. Now, instead of "someone(a)domain.com ", it was "someone+spam(a)domain.com". Dovecot deliver took this message and delivered it correctly to the ".spam" submailbox (/srv/mail/ domain.com/someone/.spam/) Just to emphasize, this process does work (using Dovecot 1.0.x). With Dovecot 1.1.0, this process is broken. Now, spam messages are delivered to the INBOX instead, and, when checking the dovecot- deliver.log, I'm seeing "save failed to spam: Unknown namespace". As best as I can tell, the answer seems to lie in "namespaces" as a feature added in Dovecot 1.1.0. The problem is that I don't understand how I could use them to resolve this situation. I've read the documentation. I've looked at as many example configurations as I could find. Please help. I want to get this working again. I'm sure it's something very straight-forward, but I don't understand. How must I change my Dovecot 1.1.x configuration so that my "plus addressing" set up (detailed above) will work again? Or is there a better way? Thanks so much for your help, and thanks for a great product! - Jon

[Dovecot] Limit simultaneous pop3 login for users?
by Patrick MacDonald 05 Nov '08

Is there a way to limit simultaneous pop3 logins for users? Like for a user that has pop-every-minute running on two different computers from two different networks? If dovecot can't stop it, anyone know of a trick I could implement? Thanks in advance! Patrick

[Dovecot] mUTF-7 vs UTF-8 in mailbox names
by Timo Sirainen 05 Nov '08

05 Nov '08

(This is about v1.2 only, v1.1 will stay as it is.) Until today Dovecot didn't care about mailbox names. IMAP RFC requires them to be modified-UTF-7, but Dovecot didn't try to enforce it in any way. Mailbox names in Sieve scripts should be UTF-8, but currently Dovecot doesn't translate them to mUTF-7 as it should. Cyrus also did this until the latest release (v2.3.13). Now that I finally today wrote code to do mUTF-7 <-> UTF-8 conversion, Dovecot can finally do the right thing. But should there be an option to keep things backwards compatible? - IMAP: CREATE command requiring the mailbox name to be valid mUTF-7 is probably ok. Several other servers already verify that mailbox names are valid, so I doubt there are clients left anymore that don't send mUTF-7 names. - deliver -m assumes now that the mailbox name is UTF-8 and converts it to UTF-7. Should there be a -7 parameter that changes this behavior back? - Stephan's Dovecot Sieve also needs to be changed so that the mailbox name in fileinto commands can be UTF-8. If -7 parameter is added, it could control this behavior too. Also I'm wondering if in the future the mailbox names in filesystem should be converted to UTF-8. Probably not anytime soon though.. I also added imap_utf7 binary for doing mUTF-7 <-> UTF-8 conversion.

[Dovecot] Another dovecot-antispam plugin can't call dspam
by Rob Klingsten 05 Nov '08

05 Nov '08

Hi folks - I am configuring a new system and the antispam plugin is the last piece I need, everything else is working. Thanks to Johannes for this plugin, it's exactly what I want and an elegant solution for filter training. But I've been trying everything I can think of for the last 3 days to get this to work, no success. I've got: Postfix 2.5.3, dspam 3.8.0, Dovecot 1.1.6, Maildrop 2.0.4 and dovecot-antispam 1.0 tarball. I've built dspam from source with --disable-trusted-user-security to try and isolate the source of the plugin problem, which is the message at the IMAP client "Failed to call dspam." Here's what I've got configured for the plugin: antispam_signature = X-DSPAM-Signature antispam_trash = trash;Trash;Deleted Items;Deleted Messages antispam_spam = SPAM;Spam antispam_dspam_binary = /usr/local/bin/dspam antispam_dspam_args = --user %u And here's what happens: Nov 5 09:31:29 venus imap: antispam: plugin initialising (1.0-notgit) Nov 5 09:31:29 venus imap: antispam: "trash" is trash folder Nov 5 09:31:29 venus imap: antispam: "Trash" is trash folder Nov 5 09:31:29 venus imap: antispam: "Deleted Items" is trash folder Nov 5 09:31:29 venus imap: antispam: "Deleted Messages" is trash folder Nov 5 09:31:29 venus imap: antispam: "SPAM" is spam folder Nov 5 09:31:29 venus imap: antispam: "Spam" is spam folder Nov 5 09:31:29 venus imap: antispam: no unsure folders Nov 5 09:31:29 venus imap: antispam: dspam binary set to /usr/local/bin/dspam Nov 5 09:31:29 venus imap: antispam: dspam extra arg --user dump-capability Nov 5 09:31:29 venus imap: antispam: signature header line is "X-DSPAM-Signature" Nov 5 09:31:29 venus dovecot: Dovecot v1.1.6 starting up Nov 5 09:31:29 venus dovecot: auth-worker(default): mysql: Connected to 127.0.0.1 (postfix) Nov 5 09:31:30 venus dovecot: auth(default): new auth connection: pid=686 Nov 5 09:31:30 venus dovecot: auth(default): new auth connection: pid=687 Nov 5 09:31:30 venus dovecot: auth(default): new auth connection: pid=688 Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: auth(default): client in: AUTH 1 PLAIN service=imap lip=xxxx rip=xxxx lport=143 rport=55904 Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: auth(default): client out: CONT 1 Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: auth(default): client in: CONT<hidden> Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: auth-worker(default): sql(rob(a)xxxx.org,xxxx): query: SELECT password, email AS user FROM users WHERE email = 'rob(a)xxxx.org'; Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: auth(default): client out: OK 1 user=rob(a)xxxx.org Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: auth(default): master in: REQUEST 1 688 1 Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: auth(default): master out: USER 1 rob(a)xxxx.org uid=5000 gid=5000 home=/var/mail/xxxx.org/rob Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<rob(a)xxxx.org>, method=PLAIN, rip=xxxx, lip=xxxx Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: auth(default): new auth connection: pid=688 Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: IMAP(rob(a)xxxx.org): Loading modules from directory: /usr/lib/dovecot/imap Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: IMAP(rob(a)xxxx.org): Module loaded: /usr/lib/dovecot/imap/lib90_antispam_plugin.so Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: IMAP(rob(a)xxxx.org): Effective uid=5000, gid=5000, home=/var/mail/xxxx.org/rob Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: plugin initialising (1.0-notgit) Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: "trash" is trash folder Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: "Trash" is trash folder Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: "Deleted Items" is trash folder Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: "Deleted Messages" is trash folder Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: "SPAM" is spam folder Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: "Spam" is spam folder Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: no unsure folders Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: dspam binary set to /usr/local/bin/dspam Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: dspam extra arg --user rob(a)xxxx.org Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: IMAP(rob(a)xxxx.org): maildir: data=/var/mail/xxxx.org/rob Nov 5 09:32:45 venus dovecot: IMAP(rob(a)xxxx.org): maildir++: root=/var/mail/xxxx.org/rob, index=, control=, inbox=/var/mail/xxxx.org/rob Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: signature header line is "X-DSPAM-Signature" Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: mailbox_is_unsure(Spam): 0 Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: mailbox_is_trash(INBOX): 0 Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: mailbox_is_trash(Spam): 0 Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: mail copy: from trash: 0, to trash: 0 Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: mailbox_is_spam(INBOX): 0 Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: mailbox_is_spam(Spam): 1 Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: mailbox_is_unsure(INBOX): 0 Nov 5 09:32:45 venus imap: antispam: mail copy: src spam: 0, dst spam: 1, src unsure: 0 Can anyone give me some more suggestions? thanks! [Dovecot] problem with i_stream_next_line()
by Giorgenes Gelatti 05 Nov '08

Hello there, I have a "subscriptions" file that is *not* ended with a line break (created by another system). When I do a "lsub "" "*"" the last mailbox name is not listed. Debugging a little showed that it looks like i_stream_next_line() is not returning the last line if it doesn't end with a line break. Is this a bug? btw, i'm using version 1.1.6. []'s
