That's why I suggested to use ntpdate to force the correct time to be set before ntpd even starts and the ntp init script returns. Admittedly, this won't work if you have no network connectivity during boot up, but if you have, this paticular problem is most likely solved. ntpdate optionally can be given a timeout value and indicates success or failure via its return code so that a calling script might initiate appropriate measures. [Dovecot] Time just moved backwards error even with ntpd

Scenario: server PC abruptly switched off due to power cable problems (an UPS cannot solve this issue), so during shutdown Linux was not able to resinchronize the system clock. After a few hours the server come back on, Linux booted and the services (ntpd, dovecot and many others) started But the system clock was 45 minutes ahead, so: Jan 19 11:13:39 gw ntpd[2112]: synchronized to LOCAL(0), stratum 10 Jan 19 11:13:39 gw ntpd[2112]: kernel time sync disabled 0041 Jan 19 11:14:43 gw ntpd[2112]: synchronized to 62.48.35.100, stratum 2 Jan 19 10:31:55 gw ntpd[2112]: time reset -3600.221385 s Jan 19 10:31:55 gw ntpd[2112]: kernel time sync enabled 0001 Jan 19 10:31:55 gw dovecot: Time just moved backwards by 3600 seconds. The problem is that I cann't see the "inbox" of the mailbox, in other words when a mail arrive in this mailbox I can not see it, but only what is in other folders. Why? Is it normal? What can I do to let my users to see new messages? Thanks for you help. Bye

[Dovecot] Patch for assertion failure in 1.0.10
by Richard Platel 19 Jan '08

Hi FETCHing a largish (~30K) zlib compressed maildir message causes an assertion failure on an attempt to grow the stream buffer to smaller than its current size. I believe the attached patch fixes this.

[Dovecot] Out of the box: Thank you!
by Patrick Ben Koetter 17 Jan '08

I've just enabled IMAP quota support on a LDAP userbase in about an hour. In this hour I read the Dovecot documentation on quota support, extended the customers LDAP schema, added a "mailQuota"-attribute and a value to all users, enabled the plugin in dovecot.conf, added the attribute query in dovecot-ldap.conf, reloaded the system and tested the functionality and ... everything worked out of the box. [Dovecot] Need help to install dovecot on solaris 10 with openldap libs
by Dovecot Jami 17 Jan '08

17 Jan '08

Hi, I install dovecot with ldap support at Solaris 10 (x86). I know that solaris LDAP is broken and so I install openldap. OpenLDAP shared libraries are at /usr/local/lib and /usr/local/include. While installing dovecot, I did the followings: I execute this before run "./configure --with-ldap" LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.2/lib -R/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.2/lib -L/usr/local/lib -R/usr/local/lib" but dovecot is using the Solaris default LDAP lib files. I also run LDFLAGS="-R/usr/local/lib" and LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.2/lib -L/usr/local/lib /usr/local/lib/libldap-2.3.so.0 " But dovecot is still using solaris ldap libs. ldd /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/dovecot-auth libcrypt_i.so.1 => /usr/lib/libcrypt_i.so.1 libpam.so.1 => /lib/libpam.so.1 libldap.so.5 => /usr/lib/libldap.so.5 libsocket.so.1 => /lib/libsocket.so.1 libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1 librt.so.1 => /lib/librt.so.1 libsendfile.so.1 => /lib/libsendfile.so.1 libc.so.1 => /lib/libc.so.1 libgen.so.1 => /lib/libgen.so.1 libcmd.so.1 => /lib/libcmd.so.1 libsasl.so.1 => /usr/lib/libsasl.so.1 libmd5.so.1 => /lib/libmd5.so.1 libnspr4.so => /usr/lib/mps/libnspr4.so libplc4.so => /usr/lib/mps/libplc4.so libnss3.so => /usr/lib/mps/libnss3.so libssl3.so => /usr/lib/mps/libssl3.so libmp.so.2 => /lib/libmp.so.2 libscf.so.1 => /lib/libscf.so.1 libaio.so.1 => /lib/libaio.so.1 libpthread.so.1 => /lib/libpthread.so.1 libthread.so.1 => /lib/libthread.so.1 libdl.so.1 => /lib/libdl.so.1 libsoftokn3.so => /usr/lib/mps/libsoftokn3.so libplds4.so => /usr/lib/mps/libplds4.so libdoor.so.1 => /lib/libdoor.so.1 libuutil.so.1 => /lib/libuutil.so.1 libbsm.so.1 => /lib/libbsm.so.1 libsecdb.so.1 => /lib/libsecdb.so.1 libtsol.so.2 => /lib/libtsol.so.2 libm.so.2 => /lib/libm.so.2 Please help me to solve this problem. [Dovecot] convert plugin fails - drops root privileges then tries to create file in /
by Mikel Ward 17 Jan '08

17 Jan '08

Hi I just tried to run the convert plugin as described at http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Convert (except with mail_location = maildir:~/Mail) It fails with an error message: Eopen(/.temp.falcon.endbracket.net.18618.8d5e0a038da6cf06) failed: Permission denied Error: imap dump-capability process returned 89 It looks like Dovecot execs /usr/libexec/dovecot/imap, which drops root privileges (probably via get_imap_capability), then loads /usr/lib/dovecot/imap/lib01_convert_plugin.so, which tries to create a file in the root directory, which it obviously won't have write privileges on. I'm running dovecot-1.0-1.2.rc15.el5 on CentOS 5. If I change the paths from ~ to /home/%u, I get this error message: Emkdir_parents(/home/dump-capability/mail) failed: Permission denied

[Dovecot] Postfix & Dovecot LDA
by tomzu＠buu.lv 17 Jan '08

17 Jan '08

Hi, I was using Dovecot (POP3,IMAP+quotas) with postfix quota "addon". But the postfix's quotas were reported differently and the quota file gets messed up all the time. So now I have also Dovecot's LDA, and everything works like charm... but... Now postfix can pass only one mail at a time to LDA. And that slows down delivery. Postfix master file: dovecot unix - n n - - pipe flags=DRhu user=vmail:vmail argv=/usr/local/libexec/dovecot/deliver -f ${sender} -d ${recipient} Is there a way to pass more than one mail at a time?
