Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew of the mysterious fix to this problem that Curtis describes in his followup: "I vaguely remember something like this, but I don't recall the fix" I recently installed dovecot on a server running RHEL4-AS-U2 and have updated to RHEL latest dovecot package, dovecot-0.99.11-2.EL4.1. Seeing as this is close to the version Curtis is running (dovecot-0.99.14) I was wondering if anyone had some insights. There seems to be a Thunderbird specific problem when trying to retrieve messages from the server. Other imap clients (Mac OSX Mail, squirrelmail, etc) don't experience this problem, however Thunderbird 1.5.0.5 experiences it on Linux, Mac OSX and Windows boxes. In thunderbird, new messages don't reliably appear and the retrieval button doesn't work when new mail is present. Clicking on an email which isn't cached retrieves new ones as well as waiting around an hour to retrieve messages. Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide. [Dovecot] Can't move messages

Hi, I use dovecot with IMAP over SSL and with Plain Text authentication. I've been using that for quite a while, but now (with my new PC), it's not working like it should (I tried several 1.0* releases, including 1.0-rc6. The problem is that I can't move messages from one IMAP folder to another, no matter which mail client. When I use KMail, I get: "The connection to the server parena was unexpectedly closed or timed out. It will be re-established automatically if possible." But everything still works. The messages hasn't moved (deleting (so send to Trash folder) also doesn't work), it stays where it is. With Thunderbird, it just goes nuts in the status bar saying "Connecting..." and some other messages: clearly it tries to move, loses the connection and tries again and again... An extra weird thing is when I move a message from my IMAP account to a local folder, it works. And then I can move that message from the local folder to my IMAP account. It only doesn't work when moving messages within the IMAP account. I use: openssh 4.3_p2-r1 openssl 0.9.7j I hope someone can help me, 'coz my wife will soon start to find it just as annoying as I already do. ;) Paul van Erk

[Dovecot] rc6 compilation problems (obsd 3.9 stable)

Starting with rc6, there seem to be problem with compilation on openbsd 3.9, (possibly due to autoconf 2.60 switch mentioned in other thread ?). I keep getting this when enabling quota plugin for pop/imap dovecot: [ID 684838 mail.error] child 22990 (imap) killed with signal 10 protocol imap { mail_plugins = quota imap_quota } protocol pop3 { mail_plugins = quota } quota = dirsize:storage=1024000 the user has only 40+mb in the home dir and the quota plugin properly shows 4% usage. However, messages can not be deleted or moved.

Hi! My mail server (ubuntu breezey badger) is connected by ADSL and has a dynamic address. I have noticed that, every day after the IP address changes, dovecot is no longer reachable from the net. Iguess this is because dovecot doesn't register this change and continues to listen on a non-existing interface/address. I'm trying to solve this problem by putting a script in /etc/ppp/ip-up/ dovecot --===--- #!/bin/sh # By kresho # dovecot ip-up script (/etc/ppp/ip-up.d/dovecot) # /etc/init.d/dovecot restart ---===--- So far, it seems to work. I doubt I'm the first one to come across this problem, yet I couldn't find anything similar on google. Any comments? -- kresho

[Dovecot] Purging old mails

Hi all, Firstly if this is a FAQ and I've missed it - let me apologise in advance. I use dovecot as a backup mail store and would now like to purge all mails over a certain age. Is it as simple as using find and rm'ing the results or is there more to it? I'm using maildir if that make a difference? Thanks in advance. Daveh

[Dovecot] RC6 startup failure: "Login prcess died too early"

Greetings. I have been running Dovecot-1.0rc2 on a test server for the last couple of weeks. No problems. However, when I installed RC6 this morning, Dovecot refused to launch completely. Here's the relevant snippet from /var/log/maillog: Aug 7 10:08:36 mercury dovecot: Dovecot v1.0.rc6 starting up Aug 7 10:08:37 mercury dovecot: Login process died too early - shutting down Aug 7 10:08:37 mercury dovecot: child 26127 (login) killed with signal 11 Aug 7 10:08:37 mercury dovecot: child 26128 (login) killed with signal 11 Both RC2 and RC6 compiled cleanly with "--with-pop3d". For reasons beyond my control, I have to set protocols = imap pop3 disable_plaintext_auth = no ssl_disable = yes I do have a valid /etc/pam.d/dovecot file (we're using PAM). I made certain that the localized settings for /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf matched what they were in RC2 for RC6. (I did use the RC6 dovecot-example.conf as source for RC6, then made the local changes. I also tried testing RC6 with my old RC2 config file--same failure). So, RC2 starts just fine. RC6 fails to start with the messages logged above. Can anyone give me any pointers? RHEL (Linux Kernel 2.6.9-34.0.2.ELsmp), built from source, nothing out-of-the-ordinary.
