Hi, I've been trying to follow the documentation that I am finding, but am running into trouble getting things set up correctly for postfix + virtual domains (using ldap) with dovecot LDA. I can get it to work without LDA, but I'm running into permissions problems when I try to run with LDA. I am wondering if anyone has any good examples of configuring this. I basically have a 'vmail' user (1015) that owns a /var/vmail/domains directory tree. I get the following when trying to send the user a message: setuid(1015) failed: Operation not permitted Doing 'postmap -q leah(a)frauerpower.com ldap:/etc/postfix/ldap-mailbox.cf' returns 'frauerpower.com/leah/mail/' which, in the non LDA mode worked okay, plonking the mail under /var/vmail/domains/frauerpower.com/leah/mail How is this sort of thing normally set up? Saving Direct to Shared Mailbox (Was: Re: [Dovecot] Sending email over IMAP?)

Thinking along similar lines to this sending email via IMAP... What I am thinking, is using Shared Folders/Mailbox's, like mailing lists. We have the power of ACL's, and if you have the appropriate permissions, you can 'append' emails to the folder. Except, when you think of a mailing list, you usually just hit reply. One of the projects I am working on, will be setup with a number of shared folders, an 'official' folder that everyone has read access to, (probably thier own index files as well, so the Seen flag isn't global), and a few admins have write access to. The problem still comes, as to the easiest way to 'send emails' to the folder. I could set up a virtual user, that delivers to that folder, but then you need a second system of ACL's that determine who can send emails to the folder.... Unless, Dovecot LDA handles that.... So, other than lack of client support for saving directly to a folder, instead of sending to a folder... Can Dovecot LDA do what I want, or be made to do what I want? I have no problems having a 'virtual' user that people send the emails to, as long as Dovecot LDA will handle the ACL's for it as well. [Dovecot] Bug in yesterday's CVS..

Hi Timo. I'm doing some testing with yesterday's CVS code and believe I've found a bug. In SquirrelMail, I get 5 messages in INBOX (doesn't matter how). I click "Toggle All" then "Delete". All 5 messages move to Trash. The Trash folder gets a link "expunge". I click that and get the following error: ERROR : Bad or malformed request. Query:STORE 1:6 +FLAGS (\Deleted) Server responded: Error in IMAP command STORE: Invalid messageset There are 5 messages in Trash, not 6. After this error is displayed, I see the following in syslog: May 2 09:37:24 dev3 dovecot: IMAP(jtest): Fixed index file /var/mailstore/72/af/375887/Maildir/.Trash/dovecot.index: first_recent_uid_lowwater 10 -> 9 (this might not actually be the right message for the error, but it's always first_recent_uid_lowwater getting decremented by 1) If I hit refresh in the browser, I can then click Expunge without issue once first_recent_uid_lowwater is fixed. I am able to replicate this easily in NFS, GFS (cluster) and local disk. Steve

[Dovecot] greetings and logging

Howdy, I've been working with a new CentOS installation and this is my first experience with dovecot. I would like dovecot to provide more logging, however I'm not finding much on how to alter it's logging. http://wiki.dovecot.org/DovecotFeatures speaks of having Logging Control. i use openbsd/i386, dovecot-1.0b7 i see the error message in maillog dovecot: statfs(mail/username) failed: No such file or directory i guess the statfs() can not find the directory, because i run dovecot-imap in chroot userdb static { args = uid=34567 gid=34567 home=/var/./mail } i am sure, i have this directory "/var/mail/username", and i add "nfs_check = no" to dovecot.conf, the error message will gone

[Dovecot] .imap locaction

Hi is it possible to have the .imap directory and sub-directory located under the same directory as mbox users. i.e /var/spool/mail/%u is where mbox files are i would like to use /var/spool/maildir/%u/.imap reason being i do not want my users /home/username used for anything otherthan their website. how big do the files under .imap get? Hello Timo and other dovecot-dev or users, It looks like Dovecot accepts (with APPEND command) messages that begins with 'From[SPACE]' line, which are not valid from RFC 2822 point of view. Additionnally, Dovecot will store them as they are APPENDed, I mean with the starting 'From[SPACE]' line, which generates a bad Maildir format. http://www.qmail.org/man/man5/maildir.html states the following : << Each file in new is a newly delivered mail message. The modification time of the file is the delivery date of the message. The message is delivered without an extra UUCP- style From_ line, without any >From quoting, and without an extra blank line at the end. The message is normally in RFC 822 format, starting with a Return-Path line and a Delivered-To line, but it could contain arbitrary binary data.
