[Dovecot] Trouble with basic Dovecot setup

Hi, I have compiled dovecot-1.0_stable. (http://dovecot.org/nightly/stable/dovecot-stable-20050328.tar.gz) I have it set to "userdb = passwd" & "passdb = passwd" I have a user "wise" with an maildir type mailbox at ~/Mail The actual maildirs are all subfolders with the INBOX "inbox" being one of them. I also have setup the ssl certificates with the script from the source doc directory. I start dovecot, and try to login from a seperate machine running thunderbird. I tell it to use ssl ( 993 ). (I specified both dovecot logs in the config file.) This is what I get from the dovecot logs: "info_log_path = /etc/dovecot/info.log": dovecot: Mar 29 08:30:15 Info: Dovecot v1.0-stable starting up dovecot: Mar 29 08:37:44 Info: Dovecot v1.0-stable starting up dovecot: Mar 29 08:39:04 Info: imap-login: Aborted login [###.###.###.###] I get that last line every time I try to connect from thunderbird. [Dovecot] QUOTA support timeframe? (also -- folders in folders?)

I see it's been in the wishlist a while. Any possible timeframe for getting it working, or maybe a patch (or is it too big a change) to support it? I'm building a new server to move an existing userbase to. So far I have working: Postfix (with Maildir quota patches that work fine) Amavis-new with ClamAV scanning for viruses (will add SpamAssassin soon) SquirrelMail IMP (Horde) (Yes, 2 webmails to allow customers a choice of interface) Right now my test accounts have quotas, but they have no way to see where they stand without IMAP++ QUOTA support. Also, a question. Does Dovecot support folders within folders other than INBOX? I hadn't even thought about that question until I tried to create a test folder from within Squirrelmail and checked the "Let this folder contain subfolders" box and the creation failed ---- nevermind, that must be a Squirrelmail oddity. I created another folder inside the test folder and it worked OK -- just have to NOT check that box. Thanks all, Gerald

[Dovecot] new to dovecot, dealing with MH foders

Hello, I'm sorry if this is a repeat, a few choice searches into google didn't help and I found no search for the archives. I can no longer put of moving away from UW-IMAP. Dovecot certainly seems to be the right choice, but I am having problems getting it to do what I need it to for all my mail. The machine is running the dist version, 0.99.12. I have a system mailbox and a large MH mail tree (~25K messages.) I saw that dovecot didn't support mh trees like UW did. It looked like maildir would be a good common target. So I found a script that would convert the mbox to maildir and have adjusted postfix, and that all works fine. Then I found mh2maildir, and ran it over my entire mh tree. Then I tried just for a test copying one of the small top level directories under ~/Maildir, but my MUA (mulberry) doesn't see it. So how do I get dovecot to see things other than the inbox in maildir format? How can I easily test to see if it's dovecot's problem or the MUA? thanks for any help, jerry Jerry Scharf laguna way consulting

[Dovecot] FC2 POP3/SMTP Configuration

OK, let me try this again. . . . I'm a newbie to dovecot and a little bit less of a newbie to linux. I am in the process of moving my server from RH9 to FC2. The only obstacle remaining is my email. I run dovecot (v0.99.14) POP3 and sendmail (8.12.11-4.6) with Mozilla (1.4.2 and others), Thunderbird (1.0.2) and Netscape (7.1 on PC's, etc) mail clients - mostly PC's (W2K, WXP). They all can read their mail but none of the users can send any mail. I have also tested with Outlook and it works!? Ximian Evolution (1.4.6) also works!??? I just tested and IMAP doesn't ignore case either. Remove the UPPER CASE maildir created by your POP3 login then do the same thing with an IMAP client. Set up the IMAP client to use an UPPER CASE username and when you log-in/refresh folders it creates the new UPPERCASE empty Maildir all over again. Crap, between this and the missing QUOTA feature I guess I'm gonna have to rip out Dovecot and use Courier. I really wanted to use Dovecot for it's speed with the indexing. What I don't understand is -- all usernames in my test database are stored in lower case -- shouldn't it simply fail to match and cause the login to fail? Can anyone point out how to force the match to be case sensitive? I'll investigate and get back to the list. It would be "nicer" though if Dovecot converted all username input to lower case before authenticating to maintain uniqueness of email addresses. after reading good comments on dovecot i'm trying to get it going I've got an apple g4, with osx 10.3.8 Compile and install went fine. I can also start dovecot, and telnet to it...but I can't login Even before I try to auth i get this in the log: >>localhost dovecot: Dovecot starting up >>localhost imap-login: opendir(".") failed when trying to get list of authentication servers: Permission denied I can't find any reference to this error message, and I'm completely puzzled about it I just need to know how to figure out what is causing this...is it related to pam, folder permissions, server config, .... [Dovecot] Anybody tracking the GSSAPI patch?

Hey all, I'm doing some Kerberos stuff at work, and I'm thinking it'd be nice if dovecot had GSSAPI support. I found http://dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2004-July/004039.html (thanks Colin :), but it's a long ways away from applying to the current stable tree. [Dovecot] test65 killed by SIGSEV

Hi, I had successfully set up dovecot-1.0-test62 + ldap pass/user db, but now I'm encoutering a SIGSEV problem with a similar set up of a brand new dovecot-1.0-test65 installation. The auth process is killed by a SIGSEV as reported in the error log file : dovecot: Mar 30 17:06:59 Error: child 28291 (auth) killed with signal 11 To be precise, the problem occurs in the "ldap_lookup_pass" function (auth/passdb-ldap.c) just before loging the ldap request parameters (auth_request_log_debug) and to actually perform the search (db_ldap_search). The signal occurs on the call of t_strarray_join(attr_names, ",") What I'm observing is that the "attr_names" array of the "passdb_ldap_conn" ldap connection doesn't seem to hold the right attributes : while in the test62 version it holded 'uid' and 'userPassword', it holds now 'uid' and 'homeDirectory'. As a matter of fact, the content of this array seem to change between the "preinit" and "init" passdb function and I'm not quite sure this is legal. So my client (actually just a test through telnet) gets a 'NO Temporary authentication failure'.
