hi all i use qmail toaster. i recently changed over to dovecot. posting below my evaluation on the same my machine dual core dual xeon 5140 processor, with 4 gb ram, centos linux with qmailtoaster i had setup a qmail tap account which backups up data for a client of mine mailbox size over 30 gb setup dovecot with squirrelmail and logged in it had over one hundred and thirty nine thousand emails 139019 emails in the 30 gb mailbox Reports 1) first login : took 7 minutes to parse 139019 mails but never timed out. this was simply impossible with courier 2) the next login it took 5 seconds by which time the mail numbers increased to 139045 3) next i changed squirrelmail display preference to list 500 mails per page and then clicked on inbox ... expecting dovecot to take atleast around 1-2 mins to show the mails ... the mails were displayed in just 8 seconds .. awesome performance qmailtoaster is simply waiting for a dovecot integration i am evaluating the stability of dovecot now in the next 2-3 weeks i post stability report rajesh

[Dovecot] linking problems of dovecot 2.0.3

Hello, I'm currently packaging dovecot 2.0.3 under Mandriva Linux. It has been using LDFLAGS="-Wl,--as-needed -Wl,--no-undefined" for shared libraries for over two years[1]. And I've found there are lots of linking problems with dovecot 2.0.3. [Dovecot] Problems with dovecot 2.0, sieve and mdbox

Hi guys, I tried to use a global sieve skript to sort spam mails into a subfolder of INBOX. I´m using mdbox. [Dovecot] dovecot 1.2.3: TB fails to unsubscribe folder after deletion

Hi, I'm running dovecot 1.2.3 with "imap_client_workarounds = tb-extra-mailbox-sep" and noticed that after deleting a folder (moving to Trash and emptying it on exit) that folder in Trash still keeps subscribed. I think the reason for that behavior is that the call for mailbox_list_set_subscribed() in imap/cmd-subscribe.c (line 84) is fed with the original mailbox name and not the stripped version in verify_name. Assigning verify_name to mailbox in the workaround-conditional fixes this issue for me. I'm not very familiar with C programming but while tracing cmd_subscribe_full() I stumbled upon another thing. In mail_namespace_find_mask() (lib-storage/mail-namespace.c at line 413) mailbox is reassigned with a local string (not t_strduped). I think this might be a problem when mailbox is dereferenced after returning from that function?! .max

[Dovecot] Can't connect to auth server

I'm trying to phase out procmail and move to dovecot-sieve instead. It ain't proving easy. I'll describe my setup: - Centos 5.2 box with dovecot 1.1.4 and dovecot-sieve 1.1.6 from ATrpms. - A single user account is used to store all our email (the account is called maildb). - Getmail is being used to fetch the email from various ISP mailboxes. I want to deliver mail to different folders in maildb's Maildir/ depending on who the email is addressed to (the procmail recipes currently do that). - Getmail destination section looks like this: [destination] type = MDA_external path = /usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver arguments = ("-d", "maildb") allow_root_commands = true - When I run getmail I get this error in dovecot.log: deliver(maildb): May 04 22:15:26 Error: Can't connect to auth server at /var/run/dovecot/auth-master: No such file or directory It's true that I don't have a file called auth-master. I guess I should have but until I started this dovecot-sieve work it was never a problem. I have no idea what that file should look like. As I installed from binary RPMs I would have thought one would have come with the install. Can anyone help? Regards, Phill

[Dovecot] Feature request - statistics for the COMPRESS imap protocol

Unless I have failed to read the manual for the second time in two days (?), it doesn't seem to be possible to get COMPRESS statistics at logout time from the IMAP protocol? Assuming not, then can I make a feature request that this might become available in some future version (pretty please?) Can I also just check that the meaning (as of today) of the "imap logout" statistics "%i/%o", presumably they refer to bytes over the wire, ie they are the compressed data sizes? Thanks - Dovecot 2 adds a fantastic bag of new features! Ed W

Hi, I've recently significantly improved the automated Dovecot Debian package builder. At the beginning it only produced i386 binaries for Debian testing. A few weeks back I added a slave builder that builds packages for Debian stable. Today I have extended the slave builder with support for multiple architectures and I've added amd64 binaries to the repository. The master builder still builds packages for testing/i386 every hour. The slaves check for new source packages about 20 minutes later. Hi! How can I convert old mailboxes in "maildir-dbox hybrid" to a current dbox? I have a Dovecot installation that was upgraded from 1.2.x to 2.0.x. Having used the old convert plugin during the 1.2-times I am now stuck with mailboxes which are partially converted (maildir-dbox hybrid state). On <http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Upgrading/2.0> it just says to contact the mailinglist. :) | If you have any Maildir files in your dbox, you need to convert them | somehow (contact Dovecot mailing list) Regards, Roland. V2 of dovecot has had the following releases (to recap) 2.0.0 2010-08-16 2.0.1 2010-08-24 2.0.2 2010-09-08 2.0.3 2010-09-17 2.0.4 2010-09-26 2.0.5 2010-10-01 I am on FreeBSD, and the port committers want to wait till dovecot V2 "stabilizes" prior to adding it to the FreeBSD ports base. So, my question is, respectfully, is dovecot V2.0.5 stable enough for prime-time on a busy ISP mail server? I'll install it myself independent of the FreeBSD ports tree if so. Thanks,

[Dovecot] gnus/dovecot open transactions panic

I have been using dovecot with gnus for a long time. Recently, I started getting failures, and I think it's a dovecot problem triggered by gnus being more aggressive, but I'd like to hear opinions about whether I should pursue this as a gnus bug. The log shows: Oct 25 19:27:36 gdtserver dovecot: IMAP(gdt): Panic: Trying to close mailbox foo.bar with open transactions Oct 25 19:27:36 gdtserver dovecot: dovecot: child 26231 (imap) killed with signal 6 (core not dumped - set mail_drop_priv_before_exec=yes) and this seems to be triggered when dovecot is going GCC: to a local mailbox (not imap) when sending, but also semi-randomly. most of dovecot -n: (I'm sure that I'm not having auth problems and would rather not post that part): # 1.2.14: /usr/pkg/etc/dovecot.conf # OS: NetBSD 5.1_RC1 i386 protocols: imaps login_dir: /var/run/dovecot/login login_executable: /usr/pkg/libexec/dovecot/imap-login login_processes_count: 4 login_max_processes_count: 16 max_mail_processes: 32 first_valid_uid: 128 mail_location: maildir:~/IMAP I have 162 mailboxes polled by gnus on this dovecot instance. I get the panic on various mailboxes and I can't see a pattern. I do get Checking new news... nnimap-send-command: SIGPIPE raised on process *nnimap*; closed it From gnus. I then look at the listed one in the panic, and *imap-log* From gnus. This just may be an artifact of pipelining, but the panic-list mbox has 30 more after it that were sent, as in: 19:35:43 506 EXAMINE "mbox.named-in-panic" (QRESYNC (1208908407 1)) [30 more lines] I'm guessing that this is a dovecot problem. I realize I should update to 1.2.15 :-) but I didn't see anything in the 1.2.15 release notes that looks like a match.
