[Dovecot] Cyrus Virtual Domains: Domain migration from Cyrus
by Denny Schierz 27 Jul '10

27 Jul '10

hi, we want to migrate from Cyrus 2.x to Dovecot 1.x (!). We use the virtual domain feature from Cyrus for a better disk partitioning: /var/imap/domain.a/user/foo .. /var/imap/domain.b/user/foo .. /var/imap/domain.c/user/foo .. In a exported skiplist DB, it shows like: ================= domain.a!user.foobar 0 int foobar(a)domain.a lrswipcda postmaster(a)domain.a domain.a!user.han 0 int han(a)domain.a lrswipcda domain.b!user.solo 0 int solo(a)domain.b lrswipcda domain.b!user.yoda 0 int yoda(a)domain.b lrswipcda domain.c!user.luke 0 int luke(a)domain.c lrswipcda postmaster(a)domain.c That allows us, to separate the domains from each other on the filesystem. The cyrus imapd.conf config: defaultpartition: domaina partition-domaina /var/spool/imap/domaina partition-domainb /var/spool/imap/domainb partition-domainc /var/spool/imap/domainc What is the best way, to use this layout under Dovecot? cu denny ps. Cyrus gets this mails via LMTP over TCP from sendmail and Dovecot 1.x dont' have this service and I use postfix for smtp-> smtp-local-lmtp-> Dovecot. -- Denny Schierz <linuxmail(a)4lin.net>

[Dovecot] quota warning error with dict
by Daniel Luttermann 26 Jul '10

26 Jul '10

Version: Dovecot 2.0rc3 Hi, I try to get the quota-warning.sh script working with quota/dict but I get some errors. The script looks like: #!/bin/sh PERCENT=$1 USER=$2 cat << EOF | /usr/lib/dovecot/dovecot-lda -d $USER -o "plugin/quota=dict:user::proxy::quota quota:noenforcing" From: quota(a)dlutt.de Subject: quota warning Your mailbox is now $PERCENT% full. EOF In 90-quota I use: plugin { quota = dict:user::proxy::quota quota_rule = *:storage=0 } service dict { unix_listener dict { mode = 0660 user = vmail group = vmail } } plugin { quota_warning = storage=90%% quota-warning 90 %u quota_warning2 = storage=80%% quota-warning 80 %u } service quota-warning { executable = script /usr/bin/quota-warning.sh user = vmail unix_listener quota-warning { mode = 0660 user = vmail group = vmail } } When a mailbox is nearly full I get this error: Jul 24 01:08:34 tux dovecot: dict: Error: dict client: Broken handshake Jul 24 01:08:34 tux dovecot: lda(testuser(a)dlutt.de): Error: read(/var/run/dovecot/dict) failed: Remote disconnected Jul 24 01:08:34 tux dovecot: lda(testuser(a)dlutt.de): Error: Internal quota calculation error Jul 24 01:08:34 tux dovecot: master: Error: service(quota-warning): child 8139 returned error 75 Jul 24 01:18:11 tux dovecot: dict: Error: dict client: Broken handshake Jul 24 01:18:11 tux dovecot: lda(testuser(a)dlutt.de): Error: read(/var/run/dovecot/dict) failed: Remote disconnected Jul 24 01:18:11 tux dovecot: lda(testuser(a)dlutt.de): Error: Internal quota calculation error Jul 24 01:18:11 tux dovecot: master: Error: service(quota-warning): child 8201 returned error 75 Thanks. -- Daniel

[Dovecot] using Lazy_Expunge to enforce retention policy
by Jim Salter 26 Jul '10

26 Jul '10

Hi, I've been experimenting with using Lazy_Expunge as a tool to enforce document retention policies (by keeping users from deleting emails forever, instead expiring them after a set time). My problem is, how do I keep the user from deleting/expunging mails *inside the expunge folder itself*? I am using dovecot-1.2.10 built from FreeBSD's ports tree, and I am using the following settings for the "expunged" folder of Lazy_Expunge, as part of the "three namespaces" approach suggested in the wiki: # namespaces for lazy_expunge plugin: namespace private { prefix = .EXPUNGED/ separator = / location = maildir:/usr/local/vpopmail/domains/%d/%n/EXPUNGED } When a user expunges mail, it shows up in the folder listed just fine. But if the user expunges mail from /that/ folder, it's gone forever, which defeats the purpose in regard to "enforcing retention." As a partial workaround, I tried adding hidden=yes and list=no to the setting, and restarting dovecot: # namespaces for lazy_expunge plugin: namespace private { prefix = .EXPUNGED/ separator = / location = maildir:/usr/local/vpopmail/domains/%d/%n/EXPUNGED hidden = yes list = no } The problem is, while this does indeed *hide* the namespace from the user, it doesn't prevent them from *using* it if they know about it - I discovered this because Thunderbird still "remembered" the namespace from before I hid it; experimenting confirmed that, yes, I could still use Thunderbird to go into my expunged folder and permanently delete any email in it. If I remove the account from Thunderbird *completely* and reset it up from scratch, I can no longer "see" the namespace - but that's weak security at best, as I can still manually navigate to it and wreak havoc. How can I use Lazy_Expunge to completely PREVENT users from deleting email permanently? Thank you!

[Dovecot] Dovecot 2 and expire
by Brandon Lamb 26 Jul '10

26 Jul '10

expire_dict = proxy::expire I found this expire_dict somewhere, might have been the 1.x wiki, but on the expire plugin page there is no mention of it. I am trying to troubleshoot why my mysql table has no entries. Do I need this line? Is that correct for using mysql? In dict {} I have expire = mysql:/etc/dovecot/conf.d/dovecot-dict-expire.conf.ext and in plugin {} i have expire_dict = proxy::expire expire = Trash 30d expire2 = Trash/* 30d expire3 = Spam 14d expire4 = Spam/Removed 6h expire5 = Spam/Delivered 2d expire6 = Deleted* 30d expire7 = Archive 30d Contents of dovecot-dict-expire.conf.ext connect = host=servername dbname=mail user=un password=pw map { pattern = shared/expire/$user/$mailbox table = expires value_field = ts_expires fields { username = $user mailbox = $mailbox } } I must admit I dont understand what pattern means, I just copied from something when I was setting this up.

[Dovecot] Dovecot and LDAP - virtual hosting problem
by Pavel Dimow 26 Jul '10

26 Jul '10

Hello, I have a small ISP and we have a dovecot for virtual mail hosting with a postfix and openldap as backend. Now the problem is that there is one primary domain (example.com) and many other virtual domains with different users. When user from primary domain logs in, he is using username as his username (without domain part) and when user from virtual domain logs in, he uses username@virtualdomain as his username. I don't know how to make dovecot-ldap.conf to authenticate both users from the same ldap tree. My ldap tree is organized like: ou=people,o=example.com,dc=acme ou=people,o=somevirtdomain.cp,dc=acme and so on... The only one thing that comes on my mind is something like (default domain) in dovecot.conf (if %d is empty then %d=examle.com, othewise...) I know this option does not exist but is just comes on my mind... Maybe some specific filter_search or something like that? Than you for any help in advance.
