Hi, Before some major changes in our infrastructure, I was interested in the performance impact of moving indexes to our NAS (Emc Celerra v5.5). So I downloaded both dovecot-1.1.19 and dovecot-1.2.6, compiled them and wrote 2 confs for each of them, one with local indexes and another with indexes in the NAS. Then I created 19 pam users, and tested system performance this way: - uninstall current installed version - install a new version - start dovecot - for each user run: imaptest user=user pass=pass host=localhost port=143 mbox=${MBOX} seed=123 secs=300 | tail -1 > file - stop dovecot I'm not sure if these tests are real, but our results are: * In our conf, 1.1.19 and 1.2.6 performance are roughly the same * Moving the indexes to our NAS makes the system 3 times slower As we currently only have 1 system accessing mails or indexes, I tried later with nfs_* = no, and mmap_disable = no. This makes performance 10% better in any situation. Our testing setup (very close to the real one) - Dell PowerEdge 2850, 2 P4 Xeon 3GHz, 3GB RAM - RHEL 4.7 (not sure about this, the last RHEL4) 32 bits - mailboxes are always in a nfs filesystem - for testing mbox file I've used dovecot-cvs.mbox I've attached a couple of graphs to show this results (I've a lot of them, but result are pretty close from one to another). Also, dovecot -n output for 1.2.6 with indexes in the NAS. Only needed changes have been applied from one conf to another. If you feel that the benchmark can be more "real" with some changes, just tell me. Also, if you are interested in the rest of graphs or date, tell me. [Dovecot] How to see if sieve is active ?

Hi, I think I activated sieve, but it's doing nothing. I know manage-sieve works so I made some rules. But they do nothing. I ran sieve-test, which seems to work, but does not move the mail I test. Is this how it works ? I thought the -e parameter just "tested" the rules and did nothing and my command was supposed to do the "real thing". I read there should be a log. I don't find this, how should I enable this ? I just found that lda can have a separate log. I'll enable this and see. I read the wiki-page different times, but I don't see what I'm doing wrong. I attached some files. Sieve-test.txt is the command and output from sieve-test. Phpscript.sieve is the file .dovecot.sieve points to, and dovecot-config is my dovecot config ;-). [Dovecot] dovecot-shared and shared "\Seen" flags

(Running Dovecot 1.1.0) Is it possible to either - (a) Still have shared "\Seen" flags even while using the dovecot-shared file or (b) Indicate to Dovecot in some way other than the dovecot-shared file which permissions to use for any messages created? The problem is, in my shared folder (using symlinks) scenario I am using, I have to use the dovecot-shared file to make sure new messages get written with the correct user and group permissions so that everyone appropriate can access them, but I still would like the functionality of the shared "\Seen" flags in these shared/symlinked folders (which having dovecot-shared seems to knock out). Is it possible to do both somehow? Dave

Option (a) sounds like the cleanest solution, but a bit of testing showed that Postfix doesn't wait on deliver before replying to DATA so this seems to always result in a bounce. I've perused the postfix documentation but so far no luck; if anyone reading this has any insight on how we might configure postfix to behave this way, could you please let me know (maybe offlist would be best, as this may be considered somewhat off-topic). We are using something similar to option (b) currently, but it's not really an elegant approach and we would really like to move away from it. Option (a) sounds great, if we can somehow get it to work. TIA, Marty

[Dovecot] Question about Windows Mail for Vista IMAP client

When TBird logs on, it does it quietly, that is it opens one or two logins. When you start working it'll open a few more. Quiet, no thrashing around When WM4Vista opens, it appears to login and disconnect (immediately) once for every folder a person has. 20 folders, 20 logins and disconnect, ripple fire. Anybody have an idea why WM4V is so busy and TB is quiet doing the same thing? Hi to all, i migrate an imap server from courier-imap to dovecot 1.1.13. Would it be sensible/"cost effective" to make dovecot-deliver generated X-Delivered-To header(s) based on command line parameter(s)? [after striping such existing headers, before consulting sieve] I need it to: a) *clearly* mark POP/IMAP account fetched by fetchmail [with fetchmail using directly dovecot-deliver in --mda option] b) cleanly implement "shared mailboxes" with MTA such as sendmail that can be easily forced to generate "one header per one recipient" [AFAIK] -- [pl>en: Andrew] Andrzej Adam Filip : anfi(a)onet.eu Order and simplification are the first steps toward mastery of a subject -- the actual enemy is the unknown. -- Thomas Mann

[Dovecot] Multiple LDAP Userdb lookups

Hello one & all, I understand it is possible to do multiple lookups for userdb info of different types, for instance a local "real" account & virtual MySql lookups. Is it possible to do two separate ldap lookups to differnt parts of the same AD domain? I have a config file to do my authentication lookup against the domain. Then I have a 2nd config file for the userdb lookups which uses ldap to query our AD for their userdb info. I need to query a 2nd part of the AD for another group of users & unfortunately putting all users into one container isn't possible. [Dovecot] Thunderbird and Trash folder

Hello, I have my problems with the Trash folder in thunderbird. Most of the times (it did work, but only for a short period) Thunderbird is not considering the "Trash" folder (or in my case the "Papierkorb") as the trash folder. The symbol disappears and I am not able to delete folders. Deleted emails are disappearing at all. The usual Google solutions like maildir vs. mbox doesn't help a lot, I am using maildir and the directory structure looks fine. I noticed that I have two trash folders, one with "INBOX.", one without. That may be a problem with Squirrelmail, because I am using both Thunderbird and Squirrelmail.
