[Dovecot] More logging for Deliver (eg file name)
by Andrew Hearn 09 Dec '09

09 Dec '09

Hello, I can't see from the wiki if it's possible to log extra information with Deliver - such as the file name it's using to save the message in (Maildir). Currently I get the date, address, ID and folder, eg: Dec 09 12:07:06 deliver(my_address@invalid): Info: msgid=<302ce8b50912090406y634d1340j96ebd54466a2d08b(a)mail.gmail.com>: saved mail to INBOX.Lists.centos Thanks. -- Andrew

[Dovecot] quote warning not being triggered (yet again)
by Ralf Hildebrandt 09 Dec '09

09 Dec '09

I'm using 1.2.6 with the managesieve patch and maildir++ quotas (via the maildirsite file). Again, I found that the quota warning is not bering triggered. Testing via: smtp-source -4 -f sender(a)charite.de -t recipient(a)charite.de -m 1 -l 1000000 -C 1 mail.charite.de:submission recipient(a)charite.de being a mailbox with a 10.0 MB limit. I attached dovecot -n and the quota warn script. -- Ralf Hildebrandt Geschäftsbereich IT | Abteilung Netzwerk Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin Campus Benjamin Franklin Hindenburgdamm 30 | D-12203 Berlin Tel. +49 30 450 570 155 | Fax: +49 30 450 570 962 ralf.hildebrandt(a)charite.de | http://www.charite.de

[Dovecot] After upgrading to 1.2 - absolute path questions
by Proskurin Kirill 09 Dec '09

09 Dec '09

Hello. I have this: /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf: mail_location = maildir:/var/spool/dovecot/domains/%d/%n /usr/local/etc/dovecot-ldap.conf: user_attrs = mailQuotaSize=quota_rule=*:storage=%$M ,=uid=1002,=gid=1002,=home=/var/spool/dovecot/domains/%d/%n Two absolute paths seems to it is not right(but it works good...) Right way will be: mail_location = maildir:%d/%n =home=/var/spool/dovecot/domains/ ? -- Best regards, Proskurin Kirill

[Dovecot] Different Formats Per User?
by Tony Rutherford 08 Dec '09

08 Dec '09

For migration possibilities, we're considering whether it's possible to have Dovecot run some users using standard Maildir format, while other users would be using filesystem (LAYOUT=fs) format? We could determine which one's users have, but is there a way to tell Dovecot this information, and is it even part of the Dovecot design to deal with this scenario? Thanks, Tony

[Dovecot] DELE before QUIT
by Davy Leon 08 Dec '09

08 Dec '09

Hi folks I'm new to Dovecot. I'm wonderng if it's a way that dovecot delete a message just after the DELE POP3 command and not just mark the message for deletion and wait until the QUIT command is received. The main reason is for slow and unstable links fetching mail this is madness. Any suggestions? David

[Dovecot] permission issue when moving / copying a message
by Jean-Christophe Baptiste 08 Dec '09

08 Dec '09

Hi all, I am having an issue with permission that may be a bug. The issue happens when moving / copying a message from a folder to another : sometimes the message gets the wrong permission (umask). The typical use case is, inside a maildir box and within imap, moving a spam message to the spam folder. Then a cron script is supposed to access to it to feed the antispam database. I wish the message file to be created with umask 0002 but sometimes it creates it with 0022. There is an example in my maildir : # ls -la /home/vmail/domain.com/contact/.spam/cur total 84 drwxrwx--- 2 vmail vmail 4096 déc. 7 23:19 . drwxrwx--- 5 vmail vmail 4096 déc. 7 23:19 .. -rw------- 2 vmail vmail 1303 déc. 7 14:37 1260211373.M462708P12977.genki:2,S -rw-rw---- 2 vmail vmail 73090 juin 8 14:57 1260224357.M884229P14370.genki:2,S As you can see, one file is OK and the other one not. Parents directories have the correct permissions, which should be pushed to the children (according to the doc). With my current configuration, it is something I can reproduce it often but I could not find what exactly triggers it. Thank you in advance for looking at this case and for your help, Regards, -- Jean-Christophe Baptiste <jc(a)phocean.net>

[Dovecot] Mbox corruption
by Erinn Looney-Triggs 07 Dec '09

07 Dec '09

I am trying to track down an mbox corruption issue that has been happening for one of our users. It appears that the mbox file is getting truncated and the all important From line no longer exists which then leads to the mbox being useless. It also appears, as in most truncations, that parts of the mbox are being lost. I am not sure how to debug this to find out whether this is a client or server issue and any pointers would be appreciated. Here are the facts as I have them: Server: RHEL5 x64/ Dovecot 1.2.8 Client: Win/ Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 This appears to only be happening for one user out of several hundred across 30 or so Dovecot servers, so I am leaning towards this being a client issue, but I don't know a great deal about the low level working of IMAP to debug. For example, I assume that the client issues a request to the server on the order of delete message 34 and the server then overwrites the mbox file (this then would point to it being a server issue)? The corruption occurs in a random assortment of this users files, so sometimes the inbox, others the Trash or one of many other folders this user has. The user also reports that before the corruption occurs duplicates of e-mail will start to appear in folders, even folders that have been unused for a long period of time. Oh I suppose I should also mention that this is about the third or fourth time this has happened to this user and it seems to happen about every 2-3 weeks. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Any suggestions as to how to root this out? Thanks, -Erinn

They are all running version 1.2.8 and are all configured identically minus compile differences for RHEL4 or 5 and x86 vs. x86_64. So the user is always accessing the same server. It is extremely odd that this issue is happening only to this one user on this one system which still make me lean toward it being a client issue but I am unsure of how to determine that. -Erinn

[Dovecot] 1.1 -> 1.2 upgrade?
by Dave McGuire 07 Dec '09

07 Dec '09

Hey folks. I'm currently running Dovecot v1.1.6, and would like to move to 1.2.x soon. I'm using MySQL-backed LDA and fully virtualized mailboxes. Are there any upgrade gotchas I should be aware of? How much config file hacking should I expect? Thanks, -Dave -- Dave McGuire Port Charlotte, FL
