[Dovecot] "Disconnected in APPEND" sometimes when with attachment

Hello! [Dovecot] Problem with ldap error logging

I configured dovecot to authenticate through ldap. When for some reason the ldap server is not working dovecot writes this message to the system log: dovecot: auth(default): accept(type 1) failed: Too many open files "Too many open files" is caused by an openldap bug. [Dovecot] mail_uid and mail_gid are not set in environment (for expire-tool and so)

Hello, I've just subscribed to the list, as a recent user of Dovecot (1.2.4 by now). I eventually missed a point, so I tried to find other doc or comments about my issue, but failed to. If the following has already been discussed, please simply reply with a URL to the corresponding thread or doc ;-) Now that I have covered my ass, here is the problem I meet. In dovecot.conf, I have the following: mail_uid = vmail mail_guid = vmail which is confirmed with 'dovecot -n' I have a script my-expire-tool-test containing: #!/bin/sh set which basically only display environment variables. When I run : /usr/sbin/dovecot --exec-mail ext my-expire-tool-test I do not see any variable MAIL_UID nor MAIL_GID. As a consquence, when I run /usr/sbin/dovecot --exec-mail ext my-expire-tool with my-expire-tool containing: #!/bin/sh # This script is a workaround for Dovecot 1.2 having issue to load modules when running expire-tool. # More information: http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Expire, search Dovecot v1.2 MAIL_PLUGINS=${MAIL_PLUGINS//antispam/} MAIL_PLUGINS=${MAIL_PLUGINS//imap_acl/} MAIL_PLUGINS=${MAIL_PLUGINS//imap_quota/} MAIL_PLUGINS=${MAIL_PLUGINS//mail_log/} exec /usr/lib/dovecot/expire-tool "$@" It politely tells me: Error: userdb(user@domain) didn't return uid and mail_uid not set Actually, this is this message error that lead me to check the environment variables. Then I also checked the source code, and run: grep -r env_put . | grep -i mail_ No trace of mail_uid nor mail_gid. Did I find a bug or did I miss a point ? [Dovecot] odd dovecot / spampal interaction

[Apologies if you've seen this message twice. I originally sent it from another e-mail account but it never seemed to appear on the list for me.] Apologies if this has been mentioned before. I've searched quite a few of the archives, but haven't found an answer. I've just installed dovecot 1.1.6 on my qnap server, and have found an odd interaction with spampal that I've not seen before using other imap servers. Let me attempt to explain. On the mail server machine, I use XMail to pull in new messages from my external pop3 mail account. These messages are then visable to dovecot's imap server. On my mail client machine, I have a spampal proxy between outlook express and the imap server. So, when I wish to read mail, outlook express connects to the spampal proxy and spampal then connects to the dovecot imap server. That all works fine until a message that spampal thinks is spam arrives. spampal instructs the dovecot imap server to move the message from Inbox to the Spam folder and then expunge Inbox. However, erroneously, a random message in my Inbox now seems to lose its seen flag. So if I have 5 new spam messages arrive, all 5 get moved from Inbox to Spam, but correspondingly 5 messages in the middle of my Inbox are now apparently not seen, so outlook express says there are 5 unseen messages, and lets me move down to them. It's almost as if the flags for the Spam folder are being applied to the Inbox folder instead. I've used wireshark to capture an example session of this happening when 2 spam messages arrive, in the hope that somebody wiser than I can work out what is going wrong, and where. [Dovecot] offlineimap with dovecot: file-time is one hour in the future

I use offlineimap to sync my remote IMAP-server with my local IMAP-server (maildir format). But I don't understand this behavior: every new mail in the INBOX has a file-date which is one hour in the future. Is this 'normal'? Is this a problem of offlineimap? I tried this debugging (for dovecot): mail_executable = /usr/lib/dovecot/rawlog /usr/lib/dovecot/imap and this (for offlineimap): offlineimap -d imap,maildir,thread -l ~/offlineimap.log But I can't find any helpful information in these files, which shows me what went wrong. Has anyone a better technique or a hint how to find out what caused this (little) problem? -- Dieter Faulbaum

[Dovecot] v2.0 configuration parsing

I'm trying to figure out how exactly v2.0 should be parsing configuration files. The most annoying part is if it should always just "use whatever comes first in config" or try some kind of a "use most specific rule". The "most specific" kind of makes more sense initially, but then you start wondering how to handle e.g.: 1) User logs in to imap from 192.168.0.1. What is foo's value? protocol imap { remote_ip 192.168.0.0/16 { foo = foo } } remote_ip 192.168.0.0/24 { foo = bar } 2) User logs in from 192.168.0.1 to 10.1.2.3. What is foo's value? local_ip 192.168.0.1 { remote_ip 10.1.2.0/24 { foo = foo } } remote_ip 10.1.2.3 { local_ip 192.168.0.0/24 { foo = bar } } Any thoughts?
