[Dovecot] maildir locking and 'racing'
by William Ross 02 Mar '06

02 Mar '06

hello Timo, list, quick error-message question. A few of the accounts on my main mailserver are failing to log in with errors like this: dovecot: Mar 02 19:33:35 Error: imap(user(a)example.com): maildir_file_do(/var/lib/vpopmail/domains/example.com/user/Maildir) racing if I log in by telnet everything is fine, and from the source it looks like the error happens when dovecot fails to get a lock on some important file or other. Could it be to do with concurrent connections? No idea. Has anyone seen this, and can you suggest a quick fix? I can't see any obvious difference between the accounts that work and those that don't :( nb. this is with vpopmail, and the Maildirs have just been moved over from another server that was also running the same version of dovecot. Some of the accounts do work. Perhaps it's just an obscure file permissions problem, or something? I'd be very glad of any suggestions. thank you, will

[Dovecot] Postfix: Command died with status 89: "/usr/lib/dovecot/deliver"
by Jacob Elder 28 Feb '06

28 Feb '06

One of our servers running Dovecot 1.0.beta3 and dovecot-lda has failed to deliver a few messages and I can't figure out why. Very few messages bounce and I don't see any common thread between them other than time. The 15:19:11 message was a company wide announcement and the other 4 servers (identical configuration) were able to deliver it. [Dovecot] Maildir Quotas
by wink＠gettcomm.com 28 Feb '06

28 Feb '06

Hey guys, Does anyone have any ideas as to when this may be implemented? I'd love to be able to use dovecot, but without quota support, it just won't fit the bill. Is there any developer documentation as to what would be required to fully support maildir quotas as I'd be willing to help implement it assuming it's not going to take me weeks to become familiar enough with the codebase. Thanks

[Dovecot] using dovecot for postfix sasl
by h＠hpjt.net 28 Feb '06

28 Feb '06

I have followed the Dovecot/Postfix/SASL howto, and modified the main.cf and dovecot.conf files, yet when trying to authenticate during a postfix SMTP session the log reports: "postfix/smtpd....warning: SASL authentication failure: Could not open db" Dovecot itself is authenticating IMAP logins correctly, and it is creating the auth file in the location specified under /var/spool/postfix/private. Why is postfix not able to get to the Dovecot auth mechanism? Thanks. Hugh

[Dovecot] Error "make install" of dovecot 1.0b3
by David A. Lee 28 Feb '06

I just downloaded dovecot 1.0b3 and running "make install" gives me an error This seems like a fairly simple bug in the Makefile ... but I'm not sure if maybe its a symptom of something more complex. I've tried "make uninstall" , "make install" and removing the entire /usr/local/lib/dovecot tree and same thing. dovecot does run ... but for other reasons I'm having problems getting it to work so thinking maybe this error could explain things System: Linux [root@lee dovecot-1.0.beta3]# uname -a Linux lee.calldei.com 2.6.11-1.27_FC3 #1 Tue May 17 20:27:37 EDT 2005 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux CPU: x86 Filesystem: standard linux fs.
