[Dovecot] 1.0-stable loses flag changes sometimes?
by Chris Wakelin 24 May '05

24 May '05

I've been struggling with an odd bug in the latest 1.0-stable (20050427) release. Sometimes Dovecot seems to forget that a message has been read or deleted and marks it unread (or not deleted). As far as I've been able to determine, it seems to happen when 1) There have been several recent deliveries 2) Possibly some of those deliveries are of multiple messages 3) Possibly they are read very quickly (say only a second for each message) 4) Folder is an mbox (haven't tried Maildir) I've seen it with Thunderbird mostly, but did manage to recreate it once in "telnet" - the debug IMAP client ;) - using "IDLE" "FETCH" and "STORE msgid +FLAGS (\Seen)" commands. I managed to catch it in the act with one Thunderbird session, and it seemed to occur when Thunderbird, for some reason, issued an IMAP "CHECK" command. In this case it issued an extra "* 710 FETCH (FLAGS (\Recent))" response (the new messages had been msgid 711-715). Incidentally, Thunderbird seems to do a "STORE .. +FLAGS (\Seen)" command even though this is implicit the "FETCH .. BODY[..]" command (and it gets informed of the flag change in the response). I've tried and tried to find a "formula" for re-creating the problem "on demand", but it only goes wrong occassionaly. My guess is it's some sort of timing thing with mbox sync (BTW we have "mbox_dirty_syncs = yes" and "mbox_very_dirty_syncs = no"). Has anybody else seen this? I'm hoping to roll out this version to our wider group of testers soon and would like to get this issue solved first if possible (it counts as an annoyance rather than a serious problem). [Dovecot] Info request
by Filip Cristian 23 May '05

Hello, I'am Filip Cristian System Administrator at Astral Telecom and i'am using on our email servers dovecot for pop*, imap* auth with mysql suport. I have noticed that in the 1.0-test* release you have support for multiple password databases. From what i have tested this it's working but only if you want to fallback to another supported password databases different that the privios. Is there a posibility to use multiple mysql authentication ? I mean to use two or more mysql hosts on wich to connect and search for the username if the user it's not in the first database? Hi I'm have problems with dovecot and the php imap_open function. Can't seem to get it to work. I just get a "Aborted login [127.0.0.1]" in the dovecot logs. The php error is: [client 192.168.1.254] PHP Warning: imap_open(): Couldn't open stream {127.0.0.1:110/pop3/notls/norsh/novalidate-cert}INBOX in /var/www/html/mail/auth.php on line 89, referer: [client 192.168.1.254] PHP Notice: (null)(): Can't open mailbox {127.0.0.1:110/pop3/notls/norsh/novalidate-cert}INBOX: invalid remote specification (errflg=2) in Unknown on line 0, referer: Same type of error with ether imap or pop3. Anyone have a trick around this? Thanks for any help. Regards Daniel

I've just found out what it's doing, so I thought I'd include the useful symptom. When I move new mail to the inbox in the remote client, it moves the mail to $HOME/Mail, and creates cur/tmp/new/.customflags directly into that folder, instead of using .INBOX, which is the folder underneath that! Is it buffering some information/setting/mapping somewhere? [Dovecot] (no subject)
by Brent Clark 23 May '05

Hi all I have just finished installing / configuring my dovecot IMAP server. Im seeing something weird happing. It seems my Winblows Outlook users are experiencing a problem whereby when they delete an email, Outlook puts a line though the email, but the mail does not delete. Im not sure if this is a an outlook problem or a dovecot IMAP problem. I cant see anything in the conf file to suggest that it is a IMAP problem. If anyone has any tips or advice, it would greatfully be appreciated. Kind Regards Brent Clark

[Dovecot] utime() failed: Value too large for defined data type
by Brian Hechinger 22 May '05

22 May '05

i have recently rebuilt dovecot on my mail server as i wanted to add SSL support for it. well, my OpenSSL libs are 64-bit, so what they hey, i'll build dovecot 64-bit as well. worked just fine, no issues at all. the setup is: Solaris 9/SPARC Sun C compiler Dovecot 0.99.14 after rebuilding it 64-bit, i now have a small problem however. I cannot save messages to IMAP folders from Mail.app on OSX 10.3.9. OE6 and mutt work fine, no problems there, but when I try to save a message from Mail.app, it tells me it couldn't save the message and i get the folloing in my log file on the mail server: May 19 16:24:37 wiggum.4amlunch.net imap(paula): [ID 702911 mail.error] utime() failed for /usr/home/paula/Maildir/.Sent Items/tmp/1116534277.P10885Q0M105223.wiggum.4amlunch.net: Value too large for defined data type does anyone have any clue as to what could be the cause of this? i would say simple 64-bit uncleanliness issue, but why doesn't it also affect OE6 or mutt? there is some way that Mail.app accesses IMAP that is specifically tickling this problem. thank you very much for your time, and if there is any other information you might need to track this down, please ask and i'll get it right away. -brian -- "I fear death only slightly more than I hate my life." --8-bit Theater

[Dovecot] dovecot deliver question
by Reuben Farrelly 17 May '05

17 May '05

Hi Timo, How much of the code base is shared between dovecot-lda and the dovecot CVS? I'm asking because when I tried out 'deliver' a few weeks ago I was seeing all sorts of nasty index corruption errors in the logs...and obviously lots of fixes have gone into core dovecot (but haven't seen many go into dovecot-lda) Reuben

[Dovecot] Dovecot-stable rpms
by Topher Fischer 17 May '05

17 May '05

I've been searching, and I can't find any rpms of dovecot stable for RHEL 4. Does anybody know where I can get one? Ever since we went from IMAP-UW to Dovecot, we've been having frequent problems with mbox corruption, and I've read that 1.0 fixes many of those types of problems. Has anybody else found an rpm for RHEL 4 of any Dovecot greater than 1.0? -- Topher Fischer System Administrator - TMCB 1140 GnuPG Fingerprint: 3597 1B8D C7A5 C5AF 2E19 EFF5 2FC3 BE99 D123 6674 javert42(a)cs.byu.edu
