Most of my IMAP access is achieved by 'ssh $mailhost exec dovecot --exec-mail imap'. I'm testing Dovecot 2.0, and this doesn't seem to work any more — and I can't seem to work out how to make it work. The wiki page at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Upgrading/2.0 has no mention of it. I looked through the git history to find the commit that broke it and see if I could find the replacement that way, but it was the commit entitled 'Initial commit for v2.0 master rewrite.', and wasn't particularly edifying. Once upon a time in the dim and distant past, I believe I used to run /usr/libexec/dovecot/imap directly. But that doesn't set the environment up correctly, so isn't the right way to do it... is it? -- dwmw2

Hello there, I am a new user of Dovecot. I am using version 1.2.12. Here is the config file: I attached the dovecot.conf file as a screenshot using dovecot -n because I am blind and haven't quite figured out how to copy from the terminal to Gnome yet. My intentions here are as follows: 1. To allow only pop3s because I want to use ssl for security. 2. I am going to be using fetchmail to grab the mail and give it to dovecot. 3. There will be three people adventually grabbing their mail through pop3s. Another question I have is when you tell someone to configure their mail client through pop3s how does that work as far as the server name meaning like most ISp's have pop.whatever.whatever.? Also I am using a smarthost with postfix to send out the mail through Google how do I tell someone how to configure the smtp server in their mail client such as Isp's such as smtp.whatever.whatever. I am using Windows for two of the clients with Windows Mail on a Vista machine and Windows Mail on a Windows 7 machine and Evolution on a Ubuntu linux machine. Looks to me like everything is copeastetic except for how to log in. The SSL cert file in "/etc/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem" is a bit tricky cause I didn't create the cert so I am not sure of the password but I did try my normal root password. Not sure if that works. Other than this actually Dovecot is quite easy to config.

Well, it seens the virtual plugins is not working correctly or i miss undertood how to configurate it. http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Virtual as this wiki says, I should be possible to make an ndeamespace namespace { prefix = virtual/ separator = / location = virtual:~/Maildir/virtual } And in side of ~/Maildir/virtual create virtual folders and inside of those folders create dovecot-vitual. But it does not work. Right if i make this conf, on my imap client it shows a folder called virtual ( the prefix, or whtever i put in there ) and show nothing, only shows something if i create a dovecot-virtual inside of ~/Maildir/virtual/ i would appreciate if someone explain what i am doind wrong. I am unable to login to my new mail server running Dovecot and Postfix for some reason. [Dovecot] $MAIL environment variable to override mail_location works in v1.2.16 but not in v2.0.7 for /usr/libexec/dovecot/imap

Hi, For the past day, I have been researching about making dovecot to support mailfront (http://untroubled.org/mailfront/) imapfront-auth natively and able to use mailfront imapfront-auth with dovecot imap v1.2.16 without starting any dovecot related services and no /etc/dovecot.conf file is required. More information about this can be read at: http://lists.untroubled.org/?list=bgware&cmd=showthread&month=201011&thread… However, same trick can't be used for dovecot v2.0.7. First error is /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf must be exists so I just simply touch /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf with empty content to bypass that error. I noticed v2.0.7 is not using $MAIL environment variable to override mail_location? I have read the following: http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailLocation Any idea to override mail_location setting? Hi, I been using dovecot for awhile and its been solid, however I been having some issues with dictionary attacks. I installed fail2ban and for the most part is working fine. However today I got another spammer relaying through my server. Does anyone have any idea what could of happened here. I mean if the user/passwd was already harvested by 94.242.206.37 why would they bother to start another dict. attack. I'm using a config from dovecot 1.2 adapted to 2.0 After update config, and restart dovecot service: If I do a doveadm user user1 then it is found correctly. If I do a doveadm auth user1 then it is ask for the password user, and it's running correctly. But if I tray to login by telnet using IMAP then I get: . login user1 pass1 Connection closed by foreign host. I can see at logs a Info line with: Internal login failre with auth failed It's very odd that with doveadm runs ok and but not with IMAP.

Hey Folks, i am trying to get Dovecot LDA to work with Active Directory dovecot --version 1.2.9 While using Postfix to deliver mail, dovecot does only imap-Services, passdb is auth bind and userdb is static. NOW i want to use Sieve Scripts. So LDA of dovecot is required. So userdb lookup is required. With use of virtual Mailboxes i have a working postfix setup, which needs to be transferred to dovecot. dovecot-ldap-userdb.conf uris = ldap://192.168.0.42 auth_bind = yes dn = myldapuser@mydomain dnpass = mypass #ldap_version = 3 base = DC=base,DC=com deref = never scope = subtree user_attrs = sAMAccountName=mail=maildir:/home/vmail/%$/.EMAIL, =uidNumer=5000, =gidNumber=5000 user_filter = (&(objectClass=user)(|(sAMAccountName=%u)(mail=%u)(othermailbox=%u))) pass_attrs = sAMAaccountName=user,userPassword=password pass_filter = (&(objectClass=person)(sAMAaccountName=%u)) My errors are: - While logging in with IMAP 2010-11-10 00:32:30 imap-login: Error: Timeout waiting for handshake from auth server. my pid=16293, input bytes=0 - manual execution of deliver -d myuser(a)domain.tld: 010-11-10 00:34:16 deliver(myuser(a)domain.tld): Error: userdb lookup(...): Connecting timed out As i said - postfix works! [Dovecot] Problem with dovecot delivery (version 2.0.7)

Hi! I've been having an issue with dovecot since yesterday and can't figure it out. All my users can send mail without any problem but all incomming mail are deffered. Here is the log from postfix complaining the mail has been deferred: Nov 9 23:35:51 www postfix/pipe[50019]: A20EB145FC2C: to=, relay=dovecot, delay=819, delays=819/0.01/0/0.01, dsn=4.3.0, status=deferred (temporary failure) And here is the log from dovecot complaining it can't complete the operation /var/log/dovecot-deliver.log: Nov 09 23:35:51 lda(EMAIL REMOVED FOR PRIVACY): Fatal: setresgid(6(mail),6(mail),6(mail)) failed with euid=143(dovecot): Operation not permitted If anyone could help me, it would be much appreciated! Hi, I am kind of restricted to using packaged versions of software due to company policy, and we have f12 on our mail server with dovecot-1.2.15-2.fc12.i686 package. we have recently had some brute force attacks on the pop3 and imapd and this results in many processes being used for login attempts. Our dovecot is hosted on a Virtual Private Server which restricts access to IPTABLEs and also make a limit on the number of processes that can be running So I can't restrict the attackers IP addresses via IPTABLES, as we don't have access to that. I can't really patch dovecot as we are reliant on the distro packages. I spent some time trying to get dovecot to run under xinetd but had no luck, and I read some reports that it was not possible using recent versions. I was hoping some advice on what avenue I should proceed with to automatically block brute force attacks on the dovecot server, (that dont use iptables) Thanks, Tom

[Dovecot] emails getting mangled when dragging from Exchange account to IMAP shared folders

I'm having the most frustrating issue, and I'm at a loss for what is happening. I'm not even sure it is with Dovecot, but that's why I'm posting this here... if it isn't a dovecot issue, maybe someone can get me headed in the right direction? I've posted relevant dovecot and config info at the bottom of this post. Here's the scenario: We recently migrated our email from Postfix+Dovecot+Amavis+SA to Exchange (not my choice, unfortunately). Now, users have to use Outlook (as opposed to before, when they could choose between Outlook and Thunderbird), and have the new Exchange account set up, as well as their old IMAP account, which they still use for shared project folders. So, emails come in to Exchange, then they drag the emails from the Exchange mailbox to the shared branch under their IMAP account, and into the appropriate job folder. Emails to one specific user in my organization (let's call him Roy(a)Ocean.org) is having his emails mangled when dragging certain items from his Exchange mailbox to the IMAP account. I can't reproduce the issue with any other user. Also, this only seems to happens with emails from one other specific domain (let's call them tornado.org) So, in summary, user1(a)Tornado.orgsend an email to Roy(a)Ocean.organd Sue(a)Ocean.org. Both drag the email from their Exchange box into any folder (shared or otherwise) in the IMAP tree. Sue's copy makes it in just fine, while Roy's copy gets mangled. What puzzles me is why Roy's gets broken here, when the others' do not; they're the exact same email, so you'd think they would all get broken. I can't figure out A) where that byte sequence is coming from (our Exchange server, Tornado.net's exchange server, or one of the two of our external spam filtering service... they use BigFish.com, and we use MxLogic), or B) if that's even the issue. I've rebuilt Roy's entire machine, reconfigured Outlook from scratch, still happening. When he logs onto another machine and sets up his Exchange account on another outlook, it still happens. Our Exchange administrator (I don't have access to Exchange) says there is nothing wrong with his Exchange account, for what it's worth. I don't expect anyone to have the solution here, since there are many variables, and there is other info that would probably be needed. What I DO want is to be pointed in the right direction on how I might track this down. For example, what is the path that this mangled email would take in this case? Even with full logging in Dovecot and postfix, I can't see any info on the path that this email follows in our system, and where it might be getting mangled. Does it actually go through the same path as an email that was actually sent to the IMAP account, or is it different when it is dragged in from another account in the same mail client? Is this more likely a problem with Postfix, or Sieve, or....? (I've disabled Amavis and SA to get them out of the picture, and same problem). Dividing the imap processes's system CPU usage by number of imap processes: imap : 0.478872 of 975 imap : 0.460797 of 1242 imap : 0.409641 of 2482 imap : 0.424035 of 4711 imap : 0.488494 of 6148 imap : 0.56809 of 7031 imap : 0.734864 of 6965 So it's about 0.5 seconds of system CPU per imap login. I also get something like 0.3 seconds of system CPU per imap login on my system. Also setting: service imap { service_count = 0 } (i.e. reuse imap processes) reduced the system CPU usage to almost nothing. But if you use different UIDs for different users you can't do that. So, yeah, looks like the process initialization is wasting time somewhere. I'll look further into it.

Hi there, I am setting up mail client with DoveCot and, at the same time, use Postfix to deliver message to DoveCot via LDA. I want to support having user name "jsmith" on my mail client, and that gets all messages for email address: dovecotdemo@domain. (The user name is different from what is in the email address). In addition, all user & password look up is handled by LDAP. Here is my problem: 1. my mail client will login as "jsmith", that goes through LDAP to find mail/home/password for this user. (this matches user name) 2. When postfix delivers a message, DoveCot LDA will find a match with email address "dovecotdemo@domain", it goes through the same LDAP configuration. (this matches email address). You can see the two search criteria are different, but by default they use the same passdb and userdb configuration. I want to use a different LDAP config. file for LDA to use, where it will match the email address (so that it is different from the default dovecot-ldap.conf, which is used by authentication). DoveCot Deliver can specify a separate configuration file with "-c", so I tried that. But I cannot get LDA to use a different configuration. Would should be an example of config file used by Deliver? I'm getting constantly high numbers of page reclaims & involuntary context switches for dovecot/auth. page reclaims = minor faults = cpu switching back to system-mode, But why is the auth process doing that so excessively? Hi List, If I use doveadm expunge in this format expunge will delete the email doveadm expunge -u test(a)planetseafood.com mailbox Archive ON '8-Nov-2010' But in this format doveadm expunge -A mailbox Archive ON '8-Nov-2010', it will list all the users in the database and display the following and no messages are expunged. doveadm(test@planetseafood.com@planetseafood.com): Info: User no longer exists, skipping. The iterate_query = SELECT username AS username, domain FROM mailbox which is correct for the DB layout. I am not using the expire plugin. Is this a permissions issue? Thanks Kilburn

Actualmente tenemos dovecot 1.2.15 que ha demostrado ser bastante estable, pero con el que podemos tener problemas de corrupción en ficheros de índices de Dovecot (dovecot-uidlist). Este problema, podría llegar a ocasionar la descarga de todos los correos desde el cliente del usuario. En Dovecot 2.0 tenemos una mejor gestión sobre NFS mediante un nuevo sistema llamado director. Con este director se consigue que dovecot haga a su vez de proxy/balanceador e intente direccionar las conexiones de un usuario a un mismo servidor si este permite conexiones. En resumen, conseguimos evitar escrituras "concurrentes" sobre cachés de NFS que podrían ocasionar corrupción en determinados índices de dovecot. Para este cambio básicamente deberíamos repetir ciertas pruebas que hemos realizado para dovecot 1.2 así como ciertas tareas. 1. Actualizar configuración 2. Actualizar plugin TrataSPAM (MarcaSPAM/DesmarcaSPAM) Usando skel creado por Timo durante las sesiones de Málaga. 3. Pruebas de tiempos de indexado con SQUAT 4. Búsquedas concurrentes. 5. Pruebas de IMAP IDLE. 6. Migración { Keywords, suscriptions, flags, status...} 7. Condiciones de estrés. 8. Actualizar Doc. En una primera estimación. El total de estas tareas no debería superar las 45-50 horas. A cambio obtendríamos: 1. Un mejor soporte por parte de Timo. 2. doveadm para realizar búsquedas, gestión del director, pruebas de depuración... 3. Mejoras en el comportamiento ante storage en NFS. 4. Mejoras en la coordinación con SOLR para cuando comencemos con el buscador avanzado con ficheros adjuntos. 5. Mejoras para conexiones concurrentes. La razón por la que no empezamos directamente con dovecot 2.0 es porque no preveíamos que fuera relativamente estable en poco tiempo. Observando la lista de correos y después de la conversación con Timo, la última release de dovecot 2.0 es lo suficientemente estable como para usarse en sistemas de producción. Si lo creéis necesario, podemos organizar una reunión para tomar la decisión, aunque sí que esta reunión debería ser para esta semana o a principios de la siguiente.

Hi, In ower mail system we use postfix and dovecot v1.2.10 with sieve plugin and i think is work fine but..... i need to have access to variables values like in these test script require ["enotify", "variables", "envelope"]; keep; notify :importance "1" :message "TEST SIEVE ${from}: ${subject}" "mailto:i_not_exist@hotmail.com"; but when i receive message, the values for "${from}" and "${subject}" are empty. i don't know the reasons about these (i'm some lost with these issue).. if help ... i put in master.cf (postfix) these value for dovecot delivery: dovecot unix - n n - - pipe flags=DRhu user=mail:mail argv=/etc/dovecot/libexec/deliver -f ${sender} -d ${recipient} ¿is here the problem or what could be? thanks in advance! *Salu2 ;)*

Hi, I'm using Dovecot 1.2.14, and I've read PostLoginScripting on the wiki. Is there any way to make Dovecot use the same username/password for database access as userdb and passdb queries? Specifying the password with -p doesn't seem like a good idea, so I'm wondering if it can be handled by Dovecot directly. Can dovecot-lda, keep a copy of any email that it receives in a diferente folder ? Like if user(a)domain.com get an email. It goes to user(a)domain.com inbox and goes to other folder..diferente that his mailboxes ? I want this with all users. Can it be done ? If not, does any one have any ideia how could it be done ? We are having serius problems with backups, with this we gona be able to at least save one or two days of each emails, than rotate them again. I though about using postfix always_bcc, but would be everyones emails only in one account. Though in migh use sieve for filter this acount and separete it for each folder.. but i don't guess sieve could get a parameter from the email to make a filter.. or can it ? like, if email from user2(a)domain.com it goes to user2 folder, but this user2 would be variable, otherwise i have to create a sieve too bigm and would work i guess. I'm using 2.0.6, mdbox, and the mails are stored on a local XFS partition. I did recently start running xfs_fsr to defragment - could that do anything? -- Daniel

Hello, is it somehow possible to use sa-learn on sdbox-mailboxes? Maybe i can use dsync to "mirror" the mailboxes(only the spam-subfolder) to another location and convert it to mbox or maildir and act then on it with sa-learn? Is there a way for an unsubscribe from a previously (auto-)subscribed folder? I'm building an email archiving system, and archived mails are organized by annum. A user will have e.g. 3 years of archive available. Currently that would mean this user would be auto-subscribed to private folders named 2007, 2008, 2009 and current. Hi Timo and Everyone.... There is a way to know when a folder it's been deleted ? And if this folder is empty ? Let's explain why... I intercept the expunge function, to treat my files expunged, but when i expunge a folder, this function it's not called, and my emails don't get my treatment to be expunged. Basically i need to do something like this: It's empty ? No --> return OK but Dont Delete folder, because it's not empty. Yes --> Return OK and Delete the Folder to be expunged. Tks !

Hi all, I've been using dovecot as our internal mail server for quite some time. It works very well. Each of our mailboxes have 1000+ messages (some have more than 4-5000 messages). I have recently started using virtual folders and, using an adaptation of an example script in the dovecot site (http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Virtual) to have a virtual folder changed to act as inbox. All of my email is delivered in some folder other than the real inbox via sieve scripts. My inbox is, therefore, a virtual folder, which only displays the unread emails on all the folders in the account. Everything works fine *except* that, when I mark an email as read or when I open an email directly on the inbox, it does not disappear from the inbox (as it should since it is not unread after being open or being marked as read). I'm not sure if this is a bug, a "feature", or a misconfiguration.... :) I'm using dovecot 1.2.13 on Debian Etch (installed using the backports repository). Attached is the file with the output of "dovecot -n", the script for the virtual folder and the custom login script to change the virtual folder to act as the inbox. I'm using Thunderbird 3.1.6 on Windows XP SP3 as the main mail client and also using an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy) to access the same account. Regards, -- Anto'nio Henrique A. [Dovecot] Dovecot 1.1.20 on OS X - ACL deliver Problem

I am trying to create an archive postoffice by bcc all e-mail from the "real" mail server to an existing OS X server and by setting all ACL to read-only. Problem: deliver reports: "Fatal: mail_full_filesystem_access=yes is incompatible with ACLs" It seems, that the failure is independent of the existence of an ACL file. I cannot change machines (must be OS X) and I do not like to compile anything on that box (but I could re-configure stuff). Can anybody help how to get around this error with existing hard and software? I just noticed this error in my logs: director: Error: doveadm not compatible with this server (mixed old and new binaries?) director: Error: director(10.161.192.28:541/right): Wrong protocol in socket (director-doveadm vs director) The first error I removed by changing director_doveadm_port = 541 to director_doveadm_port = 542 Not really sure why that fixed it. The second error I don't know how to clear. I found this thread, http://dovecot.org/pipermail/dovecot/2010-July/051022.html but it didn't work for me. This is scenario that cause segmentation fault in my Dovecot. Maybe I do something wrong, but I don't know what... We run: mailbox_delete mailbox_delete do: mailbox_open(box) < 0 and after we have: box->v.delete(box) which run index_storage_mailbox_delete index_storage_mailbox_delete do: mailbox_close(box); and now mailbox is closed (this close box->view and mailbox open) Try to delete folder, but can't do this... example becaus it is system folder, or NFS failure... set error message and return -1. Now we are returning to mailbox_delete. I have successfully implemented the global quota as well as per user quota using ldap for storing per user quota. Now i am trying to send warning message when user exceed quota limit of 80% and 95% but unable to implement the same. I'm a little confused about how public namespaces work with subscriptions. If I set subscriptions=no and subscribe to the folders, the subscription entries go into the user's private subscription file and that's fine. However, I am unable to pull their status with the LIST-EXTENDED extension. Hello, if new mails arrive, the quota information is updated and reported via imap immediately. However, after deleting a message, nothing happens. [Dovecot] LDAP acl_groups - can multivalue LDAP be used

Hi, Is there some kind of way to get acl_groups out of LDAP without having to maintain an entry with a list of groups 'a,b,c' and so on? Our groups have a list of 'member' attributes with CNs pointing at users. Ideally there would be a way to look this up directly. Alternately I could perhaps use an OpenLDAP overlay to show 'group' attributes for each user's ldap entry. I would then like to be able to tell it to get all 'group' attributes and comma-separate them. The best option I've seen so far is something like http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2010-March/047731.html which seems to involve a completely separate LDAP session from a login script. [Dovecot] problem with folder creation

I am running dovecot 1.2.12 on Free BSD 8.1. We also have postfix and a version of squirrelmail for the UI. We are using MySql database to store the email account info. I wrote a script to insert about 100K users into mysql. Those accounts seem to work well and I'm able to see things like 'Drafts', 'Trash' and 'Sent'. Now I am working on code to create new accounts - one at a time. The accounts get created and I can send and receive email from them but when I go go Drafts, Sent or Trash I get an error that says: ERROR: Could not complete request. Query: SELECT "INBOX.Drafts" Reason Given: Mailbox doesn't exist: INBOX.Drafts When I go out and look at the mailbox folders for these users I only see "cur", "new", and "tmp" whereas on other accounts that work well I also see things like INBOX.Drafts etc. I have examined the sql that is inserting the accounts in bulk versus the one by one case and can not see any differences (other than a new mailbox name/password etc). Everything that I'm reading online indicates that Dovecot should just create these extra folders on the server and there is really nothing for either an admin or a user to do. Hi, I have Dovecot listening on both IPv4 and IPv6, and can connect on both interfaces, but cannot authenticate over IPv6, using exactly the same credentials as IPv4. I assumed that the same authentication mechanisms would be used, regardless of the protocol being used - are there differences somewhere? Hello, I cannot run FTS SOLR engine. OS is debian lenny. I re-compiled debian package (from backports) with --with-solr option. Dovecot loads fts_solr plugin. I know that it loads plugin because if I remove lib21_fts_solr_plugin.so, dovecot does not start. But it does not attempt to communicate with SOLR. Simple check: stop solr tomcat, and open 8080 port in netcat: $nc -l -p 8080 dovecot never tries to connect to 8080 when I search message by IMAP. I removed indexes, it did not help. The problem is users cannot open attachements from their clients ( thunderbird 3.1 ) it stays in "download" mode until timeout. Maybe there is a Dovecot's workaround to solve that boring problem ? Hi, i hve a requirement of setting up two folders which should be shared only to selected users only. Pls note that my users are virtual and reside on mysql db. im using maildir as storage. lets assume user A wants to share a folder named shared with user B only. how can i get this done? Regards Jay

Hi there! Im using a dovecot system in combination with postfix(with dovecot lda) and ldap. Till today it ran well, but before switching to live, i did some system updates and at the reboot following message occured: Starting IMAP/POP3 mail server: dovecoUnexpected first line <localhost: timed out, nothing received> (First it says: "Starting IMAP/POP3 mail server: dovecot ", but then something fails and overrides the "t" of dovecot with "Unexpected.... ") I don't know when this error occured first, but it only goes away if i delete dovecot from autostart at bootup (by renaming dovecot-file in /etc/rc2.d/ ) No error shown in /var/log/mail.* or syslog Apart from showing this message, system is running perfectly. Users can login, receive their mail and produce new mail-traffic with postfix ;) ATM i really dont know what to do, im near switching to live status of this system and that message is annoying me. Didnt find any information on the net. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a simple mailing list manager that plays well with a Postfix/Dovecot setup, with virtual domains? It really just has to be very simple, basically, an alias would work, if I could rewrite the sender address/name, and I don't really need the possibility for users to subscribe via e-mail based commands. Hi! I noticed these messages in my logs. It seems that the user checked the "encrypted password" in her outlook or something, and wants NTLM auth. I have two questions: 1. What method/tool (other than a MuA) can I use to test my Dovecot setup from Windows CLI when ssl is enabled? Hello all. I am reading the mailinglist for a long time now, and there was a thread i believe called webgui or something. In this thread there was a company i believe german, that was working on a dovecot appliance with a web based gui to administrate a dovecot mail server. The problem is i did not save the URL of that company. Does anyone know which company make the appliance. Or does anyone knows a good webbased tool for dovecot. The reason is that in a windows environment, with only a few FreeBSD machine's , my collega's get frustrated if they can not use a mouse. They even want a mouse on there smartphone's :D I am doing the administration of the mail server, but when i am not there, it would be nice if they can do things them selves. thanks for your time. regards, Johan Hendriks

[Dovecot] Upgrading from 1.2.8 to 2.0.6: INBOX not selectable in Thubderbird (greyed and italic)

I recently upgraded from 1.2.8 to 2.0.6, I am using Maildir, and Thunderbird is showing the INBOX grayed out and in italics, and does not show new messages in it (it shows messages previously downloaded). This occurs when Thunderbird is restarted (if I upgrade dovecot, TB keeps working fine until I shut it down, and at next startup it greys out the inbox). All the subfolders of INBOX work fine. Accessing with horde+imp webmail works fine. I'm using TB 3.1.6 After some traffic capturing, The first difference I see in the IMAP exchange is the answer to 6 list "" "INBOX" Which for 1.2.8 is: LIST (\HasChildren) "." "INBOX" and for 2.0.6 is: LIST (\Noselect \HasChildren) "." "INBOX" Of course for the same user and same maildir. I enabled tb-extra-mailbox-sep in 2.0, but it doesn't appear to differ (I don't really think it should). Any help will be very much appreciated. Hi all, I am in the middle of migrating from an old, Windows based mailserver, and have run into a small challenge I hope someone here can help me with. In my old setup, a user could have folders on the server, and by using his login with the mailbox appended, could pop a given folder specifically. For instance, logging in with user(a)example.com would pop INBOX, and logging in with user-folder(a)example.com would pop just that specific folder. Is it possible to do something like this in Dovecot, or is the only possible way of popping folders by using the virtual plugin? Hello Dovecot users, There haven't been that many Pigeonhole developments lately, not even really significant bugs were reported. That is why this release is pretty small in terms of changes. However, one issue got some attention: the fact that not recompiling Pigeonhole for Dovecot v2.0.3 would result in rather interesting message delivery. Normally, Dovecot would complain about a version mismatch, but unfortunately Pigeonhole's Sieve plugin didn't record the Dovecot version it was compiled with. Starting with this release, such problems should not occur again. Hello, with latest 2.0.6 (601065674f74), the following virtual mailbox is not behaving correctly. I'm quite sure that the problem has not existed in some earlier 2.0.x (maybe only INBOX as mailbox then though): ~user/Maildir/virtual/.week/dovecot-virtual contains INBOX INBOX.* -INBOX.Trash inthread refs younger 604800 This works as expected for the first time. But later on, also older messages/ threads are included until I delete the virtual/.week/dovecot.index*. Just made the leap from 1.2 to 2.0.6 - and several maddening config typos I think I have a working system again! Getting closer to converting from maildir to mdbox, but first... Trying to use dsync gives me: dsync(root): Fatal: Mail locations must use the same virtual mailbox hierarchy separator (specify separator for the default namespace) Ok - I 've never configured namespaces before...time to learn. Hi again, I just recognized that my dovecot forgets the quota for a mailbox. This is what the maildirsize looks like: 1 read mail present, 1 new/unread mail 2097152S 0 0 909936 1 and later, with 2 read mails: 2097152S 0 0 There are no errors logged. Moreover, my quota warning script doesn´t work because dovecot doesn´t recognize my specified folder. Is there a way to make quota_rule apply to subfolders? I've got some symlinked mailboxes which I want to exclude from quotas. This would work, but is verbose: quota_rule6 = USERS.aaa:ignore quota_rule7 = USERS.bbb:ignore ... quota_rule9999 = USERS.zzz:ignore But simply writing this: quota_rule7 = USERS:ignore doesn't apply to USERS.xxx and so on. The wiki says '*' isn't supported as a wildcard and frankly I'm struggling with the source code! Alle, We're running Dovecot V1.0.7 on RHEL5.5, using maildir. We would like to user per user quotas with an OpenLDAP (V2.3.43) backend. We have setup a default quota in /etc/dovecot.conf: quota = maildir:storage=10240:ignore=Trash And have the following userdb configs in /etc/doveconf.conf: userdb ldap { args = /etc/dovecot-ldap.conf } and the following user_attrs defined in /etc/dovecot-ldap.conf user_attrs = uidNumber=uid,gidNumber=gid,mailQuotaSize=quota=maildir:ignore=Trash:storage,mail_plugins The user's quota setting is: dn: uid=loadtest,ou=people,dc=subaru,dc=nao,dc=ac,dc=jp mailQuotaSize: 1024000 Dovecot-imap appear to recognize the quota from ldap, as the Thunderbird quota plugin reads the correct info from LDAP if the mailQuotaSize entry exists, and the default storage=10240 from doveconf.conf if there is no LDAP attr. [Dovecot] imap can't reconnect to auth-master after setuid

With service imap { client_limit = 5, service_count = 0 }, when the auth process crashes the existing imap processes cannot reconnect to the auth-master socket because they have long ago dropped root privileges. Is the right solution to this: (1) change the perms on the auth-master socket so processes running as vmail:vmail can connect to it, or (2) change the code so that multi-client imap processes stop accepting new clients when they notice an auth bounce? If (1), the wiki should be updated to mention this. Thanks.

When using the stats plugin for dovecot-2.0, UID commands that "continue" cause infinite recursion and crash. For example, "A22 UID FETCH 151 BODY[]" when the body is 3MB or so always crashes. For smaller messages, this command logs the duration twice. Hi, I'm using dovecot as IMAP server. I access my mails trough Mail (Mac client), iPhone and webmail. In Mail I use a smartbox that shows all my unread messages, no matter where it is. I really want this feature at my iPhone, so I'm thinking about developing a plugin that will create the smart unread box and follow these rules: - Every new mail arrived, it will create a hard link to directory .smart.unread (in case of Maildir); - Every mark as unread, it will create a hard link; - Every mark as read, it will remove the hard link; - Every mail delete, it will remove all files with same inode. This way, a smartbox with all unread messages will be available into webmail, iPhone and every IMAP client. What do you think about it? Is there a simple way? If it is a cool feature, I'll develop it and post the plugin here. Regards, Marcelo

Is it considered 'safe' to delete directly from a dovecot Maildir? I mean things of the form: rm Maildir/cur/1288062016.M581217P9422.alpha,S=1873,W=1900:2,S The wiki tells me 'If you wish to modify them in any way, create a new message instead and expunge the old one. ' but it doesn't mention deleted files. Specifically I'm wondering what happens with: dovecot.index dovecot.index.cache dovecot.index.log dovecot-uidlist Since (http://wiki.dovecot.org/IndexFiles) tells me these files index each message is there a chance of Dovecot breaking badly if it can't find them? Is it intelligent enough to automatically update the above files when it finds a missing message file? Would simply deleting the 4 files be appropriate? I have users with 4 gig mailboxes so I really wouldn't want to be deleting those files in a script every night if its a long winded process to regenerate them. Thanks in advance for any help, Ian
