Hi. I am looking how to allow gosaMailAlternateAddress connection. I am unable to login to dovecot . I have edited dovecot.conf as per the Basic Configuration.txt in the wiki.I am using Suse 10.2 on I586 and OS is Linux 2.6.18.2-34-default i686. Anyone know of a /complete/ step-by-step HOWTO for setting up a system using Postfix, Dovecot, and Deliver? I'm looking to put a new mail server together that will host three domains with pretty low volumes of email. Later adding three or four more for some non-profits that I host. I'm finding my self skipping all around the Postfix and Dovecot sites trying to come up with this setup. I have set up Postfix in several different configurations: inbound spool, outbound SMTP, regular mail server, etc. And with Dovecot I was lucky as it ran for me pretty much out of the box. Of course that was on a single domain mail server. (Not to mention it is a really old version.) Since it went up I've added a couple of domains to my personal collection and rather than add a new mail server for each I thought I'd go the virtual route. Anyone have a complete set of example .conf files they could share? main.cf, master.cf dovecot.conf Isn't it about time for a Dovecot book? TIA, Rod --

Hi, as part of an effort to make dovecot usable as the IMAP component in the Kolab Groupware system <http://kolab.org/>, we've started to develop a plugin that implements the IMAP METADATA extension. The plugin is still under development and development is focused on the plugin's use in Kolab, so it will at first only implement what's immediately needed to achieve that goal. [Dovecot] Unable To Move IMAP Folder (Dovecot)

I have a user who has a folder in his Maildir/ called "test" /home/user/Maildir/.test This folder shows up as a sub folder to his Inbox on his Thunderbird client and I tried using the "cp" command to move this over to my Maildir/ directory on the same server and when I launch Thunderbird, that folder is not visible for me. I made sure permissions are correct and even reloaded Dovecot. mail:/home/user/Maildir# cp -R .test/ /home/me/Maildir/ mail:/home/user/Maildir# chown -R me:users .test/ The permissions and ownership seem to be identical to all the folders I created as subfolders myself but for some reason, I can NOT see "test/". Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

[Dovecot] Why my Evolution cannot delete emails in dovecot IMAP folder?

I use Ubuntu Hardy, get mails locally and run dovecot listening on localhost. I run Evolution and have it connect to dovecot, so that I can access my mail in IMAP and be able to use mutt from remote. So far so good. It works. However, my problem is that Evolution cannot delete any messages. That is, when I click DELETE in Evolution, Evolution no longer sees the message , but the message is still there. That's not what I want, when deleting messages I want them to go away from Inbox. How can I do it? thanks i

Hello, I am working on implementing support for the RFC4314 ACL management commands and responses in the ACL plugin included with dovecot 1.1.2. (I verified the error persists with 1.1.3 though.) While the described objective is still in the works, I have stumbled upon what I believe to be a critical issue with the handling of negative rights in the present ACL plugin - to be precise, the cache component of it handles them in the exact same way as it does positive rights, thus granting rather than retracting the individual privileges. To fix this, go to src/plugins/acl/acl-cache.c:391. The line and the one following it should read p[j] |= obj_cache->my_neg_rights[i]->mask[j]; Replace that to read p[j] &= ~obj_cache->my_neg_rights[i]->mask[j]; I hope this information is useful. [Dovecot] quota warnings clarification

I spent a long while trying to get quota warnings working with v1.1.3 on Centos5 before almost giving up. I configured everything as per the instructions on the Quota wiki page however no warning emails were being generated when I tested & no debug messages in the log to give any clues as to what I was doing wrong. It turns out I wasn't doing anything wrong, but just misunderstanding at what point the warnings are generated. The warning email appears to only be generated when a message is moved from one folder to another. I was expecting the warning to be generated when the INBOX was simply opened & viewed! Hello, I work for an organization that uses a Secure Dovecot server for messaging, and recently we've had to undergo some security screenings for PKI compliance (credit card industry standards). However, the screening returned to us a failure due to the following reason (attributed to our Dovecot server, which runs on port 993 and is the only "open" port on our firewall): Synopsis : The remote service encrypts traffic using a protocol with known weaknesses. Description : The remote service accepts connections encrypted using SSL 2.0, which reportedly suffers fromseveral cryptographic flaws and has been deprecated for several years. An attacker may be able to exploit these issues to conduct man-in-the-middle attacks or decrypt communications between the affected service and clients. I made the script which is called when quota_warning condition is met. Then i made a rule to exclude that folder from quota, quota_rule3:folder:ignore The problem is that this folder is still counted in quota. I don't know if this is a bug or this is how ignore is supposed to work(maybe ignore works only for storage).

[Dovecot] Converting from MBOX to Maildir broke procmail and Spamassasin and halted incoming mail

I could use some help here - As I use Dovecot I started here when trying to figure out why I could not add new mail folders under my Mac's Mail program, but could under Thunderbird. It was quickly pointed out that my system was set up to use MBOX and not MAILDIR, and some helpful links and notes were sent back and forth giving me a good clue as to how to perform the conversion process. I did have success in getting my mail accounts converted from mbox to maildir, but then ran aground. I could see all of my existing mail and create new folders, but I could not see any of my incoming mail. What I was late in realizing was that I needed to also adjust the settings for my LDA, which as I am using sendmail is procmail, and it was suggested that I needed to adjust /etc/procmail to include the line DEFAULT=$HOME/Maildir/ I did that, but new mail still didn't show up correctly. I can only assume that I have something still not properly adjusted in my procmail settings. Given that I got everything else to work, and even successfully upgraded dovecot, it was very frustrating to set everything back to square one with mbox so that I had a functioning system once again. I am about to have some time on my hands and am going to try again - but this time I thought I would ask for help before I possibly loose my ability to receive new mail - makes reading those suggestions very hard. At present, my etc/procmailrc file is like this. ----------- [dan@trailrunner etc]$ cat procmailrc # send mail through SpamAssassin :0 fw * < 256000 | /usr/bin/spamc -f ----------- In each users Home directory I have a .procmailrc file that further directs things on a user level. Whether I put the new line "DEFAULT=$HOME/Maildir/" in one file, the other or both - I got no incoming mail. My guess was that I had offended promail in one way or another. So, as I prepare to do the MBOX to MAILDIR conversion once again, does anyone have any guidance to offer for how to properly adjust the procmail files so that I can continue to filter spam? Hi, I'm already using Bacula for a lot of backups jobs and I also want do backup mail which is stored on a server. The mail is stored in Maildirs which a could backup at filesystem level. But when I restore such a backup strange things happen. My mail client show some mail double and most of the restored mails are unread. I think I'm missing some important IMAP things. Martijn

I'm using Fedora 9 I downloaded dovecot-1.1.3.tar.gz and extracted it. I then opened a terminal in the extracted window. Apparently the building where dovecot.org server is located will lose its electricity for something like 9-26 hours this weekend. During this time the mailing list will be down, but the web, hg and wiki will be available in another server. (Well, the wiki depends on if I can get moinmoin fixed on the server.)

Hi, We've observed frequent auth failure recently from the SquirrelMail frontend. The imap server is the dovecot-1.0.7-2 from Centos 5.2. The auth backend is a pgsql database on another server. The only way to make it work is to restart the dovecot, though sometimes it'll recover automatically, but you don't know when. At first we thought there might be a network problem, but we can always run pgsql client from the dovecot server to connect and query the backend database during the auth failure. We then upgraded to dovecot-1.1.3 from atrpms.net yesterday, and still the same. It looks like the dovecot fails to reconnect/retry pgsql backend. Hello there, I have a client connecting to dovecot and comunicating like this: * OK Dovecot ready. * AUTHENTICATE MYAUTH + base64 challange base64_response {NNN} * NO Invalid base64 data in continued response The problem is that dovecot seems to reject the response because of the {NNN} in the end of the string. If I remove the {NNN} it authenticates just fine. Any idea of whether it's standard or not? Thanks you.

Good day. I want to migrate from cyrus-imap to dovecot but I can not find replacement of one feauture presented in the cyrus-imap. It is LMTP. All mail users are virtual and mail works like: username(a)real-domain.com -> anotherusername(a)fake-domain.local. I whould like to check "delivery is possable" in the exim's ACL. In the exim+cirus scheme I use Callout verification from exim to cyrus and if user's quota is exeeded callout returns fail and exim does not take message for queueing. Dovecot has no LMTP and I see no possability to do such callouts. I tried to turn on quotas in the dovecot. Message was taken by the exim placed into exim's queue but cannot be delivered to dovecot with "local_delivery transport output: Quota exceeded" and message stays in queue for a long time. When an user issues just "SETACTIVE" in order to activate an _old_ script, deliver does not rebuilt the compiled file. Hi all, I'm facing this error: dovecot: auth(default): vmysql: sql error[3]: MySQL server has gone away I've been reading this list archives and seems to be a resolved issue (back to 2005), so dovecot should just reconnect but it does not so. [Dovecot] Dovecot LDA and quota

Hi List, I recently upgraded to Dovecot 1.1.3 on FreeBSD and got into trouble over the quotas. We implemented per-user quotas using plugin { quota = maildir } and protocol lda { mail_plugins = quota } We use a passwd-file userdb with extra fields, which used to be quota=maildir:storage:<bytes> which I changed to quota_rule=*:bytes:<bytes> What happens now is that deliver (the Dovecot LDA) only picks up the quotas set in the maildirsize file in the user's homedir. It doesn't pick up the quota set in the userdb. Also, when I delete the maildirsize file, I doesn't get recreated by the LDA and quotas don't get checked at all. Any ideas? Hi, I'm trying to set up dovecot 1.1.2 and postfix 2.5.4 on freebsd 7.0. I'm getting permissions problems on auth-master and I'm not sure of the correct settings to use. In postfix's main.cf I have mailbox_command=/usr/local/libexec/dovecot/deliver -d $USER In dovecot.conf I have: socket listen { master { path = /var/run/dovecot/auth-master mode = 0660 user = dovecot group = postfix } ... # ls -l /var/run/dovecot/auth-master srw-rw---- 1 dovecot postfix 0 Sep 18 18:26 /var/run/dovecot/auth-master= In maillog I'm getting: deliver(sumbuddy): Can't connect to auth server at /var/run/dovecot//auth-master: Permission denied (I'm not sure where it's getting the "//" in the path either ...) Also I'm confused about whether I need the postfix options: maildrop_destination_recipient_limit=1 dovecot_destination_concurrency_limit=1 or even whether these are current options in my version of postfix (they don't appear in main.cf.default) Does deliver require such limits on concurrency or # of recipients? Hello everyone, I am testing Dovecot 1.1.3 at the moment to see if I can migrate from UW-Imap(mbox) to Dovecot(maildir). Because I dont' want to influence the production server I installed Dovecot on an ununsed computer with some dummy-testusers using ssl and maildir. Installation was without any problems and everything works fine with one exception: I cannot download some attachments. If the attachment is a simple textfile or bitmap it's ok, but everything else (pdf, zip, etc. - size doesn't matter) does not work. Here is what happens: 1) I right-click on the attached file -> "save as" (using Thunderbird 2) 2) I choose a target dir (no matter if local disk or nfs) 3) the download-dialog pops up and says: "starting...." 4) nothing happens form then on In the log file I see (lots of them for a single "attachment-download-try" until I stop Thunderbird): "dovecot: Fatal: IMAP(<username>): io_loop_handle_add: epoll_ctl(1, 1): File exists" (which file??) I googled this message but without success. I already tried having all files on the local fs instead of nfs but it doesn't change anything. I also tried a lot of different settings (concerning locking, nfs, permissions) in the dovecot.conf. Everything else works just fine: logging in, receiving, creating folders, deleting etc...) Im using a (very) old SuSE 9.0 installation with ext2. I put my (current) devecot.conf and the output of "dovecot -n" at the end. As I have no idea what else to try/check: Anyone out there who has a tip what else I could check to solve this? Hi all, Trying to setup Postfix / Dovecot / Fetchmail to collect all my mail centrally on my home server and serve it out by IMAP. Everything is working, using Maildir format except I can't move mail from a sub-folder to my Inbox. Example: I send a test message to myself. It gets picked up by fetchmail, and delivered to /home/user/Maildir/new by postfix. Dovecot serves that out to my client. I can then move that message from the Inbox to a subfolder, but then I can't move it back to the Inbox. [Dovecot] One fs with quota, one without: incorrect data shown

Hello all, I'm using Dovecot 1.0.15 on a Solaris 10. There are two different FS in place for IMAP: /var/mail for inbox /export/home for the mail folders The first doesn't have quota, the second does. However, I've noticed that Thunderbird does display quota information on the inbox (that doesn't make any sense, the values are incorrect). The same incorrect values are shown for folders as well. I tried the following configurations, but without success, the result is always the same: quota = fs ---- quota = fs:INBOX:mount=/var/mail quota2 = fs:Others:mount=/export/home ---- quota = fs:Others:mount=/export/home Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Hi, all. I managed to get my new password scheme routine written, but a couple of things: 1. The example module lacks an init routine. Since I used it as a model, my module also lacks one. As such, my newly-built module is seen but not registered. In the meantime, I moved the routines into password-scheme.c instead where I had access to all the MD5 routines already set up for me. 2. Once in password-scheme.c and modified to the point where it builds without warnings or errors and it doesn't gag on itself, it doesn't seem to work properly. What's the best way to debug password-scheme.c so I can see what's going on so I can fix things accordingly? I have to "manually" break apart the value stored in a database a bit differently than other salted values (it's using salted MD5 values a bit differently than normal). [Dovecot] Small deliver bug

Setting "mail_location=maildir:~/Maildir:INDEX=~/index:CONTROL=~/control" (or separating INDEX and CONTROL in general) along with "quota=maildir" (and or having a ~/.dovecot.sieve) appears to expose a small bug in deliver (version 1.1.3, but probably all). While deliver will create a missing INDEX directory, it throws an error if the CONTROL directory is missing, exiting with exit code 75 and the following message: Internal error occurred. Refer to server log for more information. Hi All, Yesterday I began experimenting with using LDA to do delivery. To begin with I'm using a .forward file entry for myself so as to avoid affecting other users. Hi, all. I was curious how difficult it would be to add a new password scheme to Dovecot? I have to transplant mailboxes from one machine to another, the older machine running Post.Office from now-defunct Software.Com, which was bought by OpenWave, then discontinued. Apparently, Netscape's mailserver offering from the day also supports this scheme. There's code out there that was incorporated into OpenLDAP a while back which can read this scheme, but I need to use MySQL as a source for this. Does the keyword/action discard work by default or is there something I have to do in the configuration to get to work... maybe I missed something on http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Sieve I have the following rule: if anyof ( header :contains ["Subject"] ["Test Discard"] ) { discard; stop; } but it delivers to INBOX with or w/o the "stop;". If I change the rule to if anyof ( header :contains ["Subject"] ["Test Discard"] ) { fileinto "spam"; stop; } the message will deliver into my spam folder which makes me think I am doing something wrong with "discard". Using 1.0.2 sieve plug-in. Thanks.

[Dovecot] Outlook 2003 and Thunderbird IMAP + getting new headers

Hi, We run 1.1.3 and I use Outlook to connect to my IMAP box and a couple of times per day (randomly) when I click certain folders IMAP will start retrieving ALL headers for that folder again ('retrieving new headers')! I don't understand this. What triggers IMAP to do so, why not just retrieve only the NEW headers? Is it Dovecot or Outlook (probably) and what can be done about this? I already use the Dovecot Outlook workarounds. I have also gotten word that this behavior happens with Thunderbird. This is really a problem causing a lot of load on our storage (I am not the only user). Cheers, Jan

We have home directories on the server. Virtual user's can login (at least I've been able to verify that from using telnet to port 143). Yes the earlier mail was different. [Dovecot] procmail -> deliver: file too large

I am using procmail with deliver as recommended on the wiki to send mail snagged by SpamAssassin straight to a spam folder. It seemed to be working fine, but now I'm finding messages like this: Sep 17 12:13:47 hosty deliver(whoey): write() failed with mbox file /var/mail/whoey: File too large I don't think this is a setrlimit problem -- the host operating system is OpenBSD 4.0. My dovecot version is 1.0.13. Is there a maximum size used by deliver? Or is this a procmail problem? It looks like the message is coming from deliver. I don't think this is a postfix problem -- my max message size 33M in postfix. -Thanks, Jim

[Dovecot] Expire with space in mailbox name

Hello all, I'm running Dovecot 1.1.3 and trying to make use of the expire plugin on my mbox-based mailboxes. Expire seems to be populating the database when it comes to the trash folder, but I'm having issues with a spam folder (unfortunately) named "Junk E-mail". I've tried quotes and a backslash to account for the space, but it's not happening. Can anyone tell me how I would account for a folder like this? Hi, we are using dovecot's deliver to deliver mails to a virtual mailbox tree owned by the vmail user, by piping the message to the following command spawned by vmail: /usr/bin/env HOME=/srv/vmail/mydomain.ch/myaccount /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver When a message is delivered to an account that has reached its quotum, deliver issues a failure message saying: From: Mail Delivery Subsystem <postmaster(a)seamus.madduck.net> To: $ENVELOPE_SENDER Message-ID: <dovecot-1221640816-796581-0@seamus> Subject: Automatically rejected mail Your message to <vmail> was automatically rejected: Quota exceeded The original message is attached, which is nice, however, I don't like the dovecot rejection message for two reasons: 1. there was no message to <vmail> sent, dovecot should use the envelope recipient considering that it doesn't know the envelope recipient, this would best be solved by 2. don't accept the mail and send out a rejection, just exit 69 and write the reason to stderr! Hi, I recently changed from uw imap to dovecot on the sound recommendation of a friend and have mostly succeeded in getting all of my clients up and running, but am really stuck with the iPhone which is failing to make connections. I run certificates on all of my clients and thunderbird happily connects both locally and remotely. I installed the certificate on the iPhone after great pain (pk12 via the Web administration utility). When you open the configurations on the phone , it tries to make a test connection to the server and fails with a generic SSL error. Dovecot reports just a generic disconnected error (imap-login/client.c line 333), and it appears to be dropping the connection. [Dovecot] Moving from cyrus to dovecot (a story)

The transition was quick, and also (so far) seemingly painless. The server is an old Pentium II 233 machine that sits between my home LAN and the internet, and have sitting there, and running night and day since 1999. For the first two years it was running SuSE linux, but since 2001 it has been running debian and been continously upgraded. It was originally installed with potato, but have been apt-get dist-upgrade'd to woody, and then to sarge, and then etch, which is what it's currently running I've been using cyrus imapd since 1999 (compiled by hand on SuSE and using the debian packaged version on debian). But in all these years I've never become really friendly with it. In the years leading up to 1999 I had been running UoW imapd at work, and I wasn't too impressed with it at that point in time. The alternative choices were courier and cyrus, and I picked cyrus more or less arbitrarily. By "never become really friendly", I mean - I've never really gotten a good understanding of the configuration - I've never quite understood what the documentation have said about authentication and SSL support. I've gotten things to work by trial and error - Four times the seen data bases have become corrupt. Two times during upgrades (one of them after I had switched to skip lists), and two times on their own, while I was still running BDB - Since delivery was to a central spool and database, owned by user cyrus, has meant that I had to use sieve (which is another thing I've never quite understood) for mail filtering, instead of dear old procmail Cyrus has lots of stuff related to scaling and having mailboxes for users that have no users on the host, but that's not really relevant to my home server. Around six months ago I stumbled over dovecot, which from my POV have the following crucial features: 1. folders under the users' home directories, either as mbox or as maildir, which allows me to do list filtering with procmail, and no central databases that can become corrupt 2. understandable configuration (the only change I'd had to do in the debian dovecot, is to allow for cram-md5 authentication) I decided om maildir as the folder format. I like the simplicity of mbox folders, but I have some archive folders with around 20k of articles each, and maildir would scale a bit better for them. Also mail delivery without locking is a very nice feature. Here's how I proceeded: - I set up dovecot on my daughter's Ubuntu Hardy machine - I ran imapsync on this machine to extract everything I had on the cyrus server to Maildir folders in the users' home directories on the Ubuntu box - I shut down fetchmail on my gateway box (since ISP port filtering and blacklisting of dynamic addresses stops direct SMTP delivery I have to use ISP gateways and mail drops) - I changed the exim conf on my gateway from using cyrdeliver to delivering to a maildir folder in the users' home directory - I restored my old .procmailrc file from subversion (my home directory is checked into subversion, this was originally a CVS repo that went subversion a couple of years ago), merged in the last version of the .procmailrc that used cyrdeliver (I gave up on that because the .procmailrc file had to be owned by user cyrus, which was very impractical), and changed the filtering rules to deliver to maildir folders - I tested some delivery - I apt-get install'd dovecot from the etch back ports pointed to from the dovecot install page http://wiki.dovecot.org/PrebuiltBinaries#head-477d52d96fcf34ad3033b13e5e5a2… This uninstalled cyrus22-imapd, but not the rest of cyrus 2.2, which blocked dovecot from starting after the install - I stopped cyrus22 and uninstalled all of the cyrus22 packages - I rsync'd the maildir folders from the Ubuntu box to the old mail server - I started dovecot - I use Gnus as my MUA. I had removed all nnimap groups related to the home server in Gnus, and resubscribed them. All folders came up in the state I had left them. Gnus stores article state on the server as custom marks, and imapsync had preserved the custom flags. I unsubscribed the groups to avoid article caching confusion, because imapsync changes the UIDs. However, all folders except INBOX had changed their names, so that didn't matter much - I started fetchmail and sent som test emails, and observed that they ended up in the right Maildir folders, and that dovecot picked them up as expected And today I accessed the server from work. [Dovecot] How to recover sieve files?

I'm seeing a lot of these messages in my log files... deliver(...): Aug 10 15:18:34 Error: sieve_execute_bytecode(.../.dovecot.sievec) failed I'm guessing the file needs to be updated/recreated, but what's the "correct" way to do it? should I just remove the existing one and let the server recreate it? Hi! Is there any known way I can log traffic caused by IMAP sessions? First it is adequate to have a rough overall statistic let's say traffic per hour - this is easily done with iptables. But on the long term I also need information on account basis. I thought of rawlogging every IMAP session and then simply count the filesizes. But the created logs have dropouts because dovecot doesn't log whole FETCH commands what is a problem. Thanks for every idea you have! Paul

Hi, Currently I use dovecot 1.1.3 on Debian Testing. CPU arch is x86. Mail is stored on ext3 fs. I'm having a following problem with deleting folders (there is no problem with creation of folders): Error: IMAP(test(a)laptop.aonet.pl): unlink_directory(/home/vpopmail/domains/laptop.aonet.pl/test/.//Maildir/..DOVECOT-TRASHED) failed: Permission denied HOW TO REPRODUCE 1. Create a fresh new account 2. Login to a new account and create folder say 'TestFolder' 3. When I try to delete TestFolder - it is deleted and ..DOVECOT-TRASHED appears in user's Maildir AND Error: IMAP(test(a)laptop.aonet.pl): unlink_directory(/home/vpopmail/domains/laptop.aonet.pl/test/.//Maildir/..DOVECOT-TRASHED) failed: Permission denied message appears - it is triggered from line 815 of dovecot-1.1.3/src/lib-storage/index/maildir/maildir-storage.c 4. Create 'TestFolder2' 5. Hi, I'm not a Blackberry user, but we have some customers currently using an Exchange server with some kind of blackberry and interested in moving their service over to our dovecot 1.1 server Does anyone have any notes or recommendations on getting a (UK) Blackberry to talk effectively to a normal Dovecot server, and are there any things to consider in order to get whatever features they are normally using on their Exchange link working on the Dovecot server? Is there any other mechanism than using passwd files with md5-hashed passwords created by dovecotpw that will support cram-md5 authentication? Has anyone created setups where the passwd databases reside in the individual users home directories? Is it possible to persuade dovecotpw to update the passwd databases automatically. Having to use a text editor to paste in the passwords sets a high user treshold on using the cram-md5 authentication mechanism. Thanx! - Steinar

I am trying to filter my imap mail sent to my phone by using sieve. Currently everything is set up and works well using mbox and sendmail as the lda. I then created a ".dovecot.sieve" script but am not sure where to place it. I tried ~/ and ~/.imap but it never seems to get compiled. Dovecot is running as a root service so it should have access. The functionality added in changeset 818a638fa9a3 has a bug for x86_64 on line 103. The src/auth/mech-gssapi.c file must now include stdlib.h to have the declaration for getenv(). Otherwise, the compiler uses the implicit return type (int), which truncates the 8-byte pointer getenv() returns to a 4-byte value. This causes a segfault on subsequent reads. Ive been getting a LOT of these errors since 1.1.2: So far ive seen this with 1800 customers, and we're getting active complaints about errors in imap clients. When I check the users log I always see this error.. This always happens with COPY commands in Squirrelmail. I'm trying to set up a public namespace so that a set of IMAP folders are available to all staff - similar to MS Exchange Public Folders. I've managed to set up the namespace correctly but I'm having trouble with the ACLs. The global ACL file is the only method I can get to work. All I want to do is to allow 1 user admin privileges to create & delete anything but all other users should only be able to create not delete. Reading through the mailing list I thought a /etc/dovecot-acls/.DEFAULT file would be suitable but what should be put in here to achieve what I want? Are you able to use wildcards somehow within this file, i.e.: ---------------------------------------- owner lrwstiekxa user=admin(a)domain.com lrwstiekxa user=*(a)domain.com lrw ---------------------------------------- Does this .DEFAULT file only apply to the public (shared) namespace or will it effect private mailboxes also? If I was to create a specific global acl file for a specific folder which would take precedence, the .DEFAULT acls or the specific folder acls? Also an "INBOX" is shown within the public folders namespace but no folder exists in the public folders maildir hierarchy - any ideas how I can stop this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Recently I posted about wanting to add an x-header recording a timestamp for changing the \Deleted flag, for purposes of doing expiry on mbox mailboxes. To test my sanity, I changed the string 'X-Status' in each of these to something else. Hi, I was wondering if there is any possibility to access the status if a user has provided a certificate, that has been accepted or not via variables. And further if there is any way to get the value of SSL certificate fields by use variables. I'd like to use those variables in sql statements. Hello, I would like to know what is the proper way to restore a Maildir : Assuming someone has got a foobar/[cur|new|tmp] maildir, loses for some reason its content and that some new mail (seen and/or unseen) comes into that mailbox inbetween (that is before the restore procedure takes place, thus creating the need to merge restored messages and new ones). I'd like to check the following (I don't use deliver but procmail) : 1. the messages filenames are unique in time (meaning that a new message cannot be assigned a name already existing in the backup (the name of an old message), at least for the same mailbox instance : if that's not the case : how can we merge safely ? 2. what naming scheme is used (the left part of the name, before the :2,) ? I've got something like : 1215166123.52887_0.host.dom.ain:2,[...] what are the 1215166123, the 52887 and 0 ? 3. what can we deduce from the last modified date of the file as seen in ls -l ? . when in new/, is it the same as the one in the Received: header or is it when in tmp/ ? . when in cur/, is it the date the client "saw" the message ? What would "saw" mean in that case ? 4. should the dovecot-uidlist and dovecot-keywords be updated after the restore or is it better to let dovecot rearrange them itself ? 5. same question for the index and cache files ? Dovecot 1.1.3 Solaris 10 SPARC (Sun Fire T1000) Compiled with Sun Studio 12 compilers. Maildir on NFS Indexes on local disk (UFS). 'dovecot -n' output attached. IMAP process crashes for certain (many, but not all) users when accessing certain folders (in the example below, in crashes when accessing my INBOX, about 1700 mails). I could access other mailboxes without problems. And a simple telnet to the imap port followed by a login works fine. Erased the coredumps (was filling up the system too quickly) so I can't really produce a backtrace right now (had to back down to 1.0.13 again even though that one has another core-dump-generating problem - but that is atleast limited to only one specific user so far). Going to set up a separate test server to test things more without disturbing our normal operations... I started with an empty INDEX directory to make sure there weren't problems with old corrupted indexes. [Dovecot] Support of client specific flags?

Gnus use a lot of custom flags to represent the messages state wrt. Gnus. How well are these flags supported in dovecot? How fast are access to them? (Ie. will dovecot have to open the message and parse the headers) Are they supported when using imapsync to transfer messages from a different IMAP server? (I guess I'll find out soon, because I'm using imapsync to transfer messages from a cyrus imap daemon to a dovecot one, as I'm writing this)

Hi, since I've numerous reports of segfaults/crashes/corruptions with Dovecot 1.1.3 with Sieve, I'd like to ask - is 1.1.3 an improvement over 1.1.2 or are there some acknowledged regressions and 1.1.4 is planned to fix that?
