This makes some commands slower, but should fix the rest of the problems. - IMAP: SEARCH BEFORE/ON/SINCE didn't handle timezones correctly. - ldap: auth_bind was doing lookups using subtree scope instead of the scope specified in config file. - zlib plugin crashfixes by Richard Platel - master passdbs: pass=yes setting was broken with blocking passdbs (e.g. MySQL)

[Dovecot] Missing IMAP folders

Hi, I'm fresh starting to use dovecot. Before this I used bincimap, mainly because it was very simple to config. I've tried to find the FAQ's and tried searching the archives, but little came up. My current config: server FreeBSD i386, postfix 2.4 dovecot 1.0.10 client: windows 2000 thunderbird 2.0.0.12 after some inital config this starts up, and I even have the advantage that I can save in the Sent folder on the server. However I have over 3500 folders and most of them are more than 3 levels deep. And I only get to see the first top level of directories. Searching and/or subscribing does not bring anything. Does somebody have pointers on how to fix this, other than manually trying to recreate al subscriptions. --WjW

Hi I downloaded dovecot 1.09 sources I patched it with quota-rewrite patch for v1.0. And now I have a problem with quota , I have quota dans mysql. [Dovecot] odd password issue using ]...[

Hello folks, I'm using 0.99.11 with sendmail and shadow passwords. I've discovered an odd bug with password characters. Password Result [dove] works ]dove[ fails You can substitute anything for the dove part so its the inverted ] [ that's causing some sort of problem. [Dovecot] Index corruption with squirrelmail.

Hi. I don't know if the problem is related with squirrelmail or not, but I started to have index corruption when I started to try squirrelmail. Some informaton about my instalation: dovecot 1.0.5-1 debian package with maildir squirrelmail 1.4.9a-2 debian package Some log information: dovecot: 2008-02-27 08:39:39 Warning: IMAP(<please don't send spam to me>): fscking index file /var/virtual/contactnet.com.br/fcatunda/Maildir/dovecot.index dovecot: 2008-02-27 08:39:39 Error: IMAP(<please don't send spam to me>): Unexpected transaction log desync with index /var/virtual/contactnet.com.br/fcatunda/Maildir/dovecot.index I'm not pretty sure, but it looks like that if I keep my thunderbird open, receive a message and a rule move the message from INBOX to some other folder and then, finally, I try to login in squirrelmail I reveive a message like this: Query: EXPUNGE And in my log file the above message appears. I already deleted dovecot.* files, but the error ocurred again. Any suggestion? Thanks!

[Dovecot] How to prevent deleting mail by mailer?

Hello Dovecot users, I found a few annoying bugs in the ManageSieve implementation. Particularly, v0.10.0 can pollute the tmp directory of the sieve_storage directory with useless compiled script files. Change Log v0.10.1 ------------------- * Fixed bug introduced in v0.10.0: compiled scripts were also written to disk in the sieve/tmp directory and left there. This accumulates much .sievec junk in that directory over time. * Fixed bug in tmp file generation for sieve-storage: errors other than EEXIST would cause the daemon to sleep() loop indefinitely. + Improved log lines to be more recognizable as being generated from managesieve. + Added short proxy configuration explanation to the README file + Added 'Known Issues' section to the README file - Fixed assert bug in sieve-storage occuring when save is canceled. Hi, I'm not sure what NTLM version is used as default by authentication between Outlook and dovecot and I couldn't find it out with a packet sniffer. I think its NTLMv2 but I'm not sure so I'm asking here. [Dovecot] Sieve management without shell access or homedir

Hi. Is there some user friendly application (web based, maybe a webmail addon) that can help a user manage their sieve filtering? My mail users don't have any shell access to the mail host. Most users won't have a regular home directory either. Can I store this sieve information someplace else? Either directly in LDAP, or in some database, or a common directory for all user's sieve files? /Tobias

[Dovecot] Master user doesn't work with 'pass=yes'

Hi, It seems that master user login does not work with the 'pass=yes' option as recommended and documented. I defined a master user passdb as documented. In addition, I have a passdb sql. If 'pass=yes' is defined then it seems that dovecot recognizes the master login, verifies the master password but then attempts to verify the ***master*** password again with the ***user*** password (?) and fails. If 'pass=yes' is not defined then master login works OK, but if the user does not exist I get a "* BYE Internal login failure. Refer to server log for more information." instead of the usual "NO Authentication failed.". In addition, I'd like to check the SQL users before the master user, because most logins will be done by SQL users. If I place master passdb after passdb SQL then dovecot fails to start with "Last passdb can't have pass=yes". How can I use master password and "pass=yes"? I'm using dovecot 1.0.10. A co-worker edited a dovecot-acl file and accidently introduced a space at the end of a "user=username lrwstie" entry. Fortunately he noticed errors in his own mail client, but I'm not sure what may have happened to other users. Would it be possible to make dovecot more forgiving by ignoring whitespace at the end of ACLS to avoid this issue? [Dovecot] nfs locking issues...

I'm running Dovecot 1.1 RC1. I believe I've done all the due diligence for making things working correctly over nfs. But I run into locking issues if I run over nfs. procmail is doing the delivery over nfs. uw-imap was ruining over nfs. dovecot is fine if its on the nfs server (i.e. it has local access to the disk, no nfs) I run into lock deadlocks if I run dovecot over nfs Users are directed to different servers, but a given users will always get the same server (at least until there's no activity for that user for over an hour). This only applies to when running dovecot over nfs. Everybody goes to the nfs server otherwise. Sometimes I can kill all the processes, remove the dot locks, and recover. Something I need to reboot the nfs server to recover. Let me give a run down of the particulars: All the mail is in mbox format. everybody runs linux with kernel 2.6.24.2 (any known nfs locking issues there?). delivery is done via procmail, its locking and dovecot's are both dotlock, fcntl. The nfs mount options are actimeo=3,hard,noatime,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,nfsvers=3 The clocks are in sync. Dovecot.conf: protocols = imap imaps pop3 pop3s login_greeting = imap ready. mail_location = mbox:~/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u mmap_disable = yes mail_nfs_storage = yes mail_nfs_index = yes protocol imap { } protocol pop3 { pop3_uidl_format = %08Xu%08Xv } auth default { mechanisms = plain passdb pam { } userdb passwd { } user = root } dict { } plugin { } Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hello, My user's imap folder locations are a mess. Some have them in /home/username/mail but a lot of them just have them in /home/username. So I need to have dovecot's base imapdir pointed directly at the user's homedirs. My problem now is that a lot of users have many links in their homedirs. Some even have circular links, such as: /home/username/foo/foo1/foo2/foo3/foo4 -> /home/username/foo/foo1 All these links are causing some dovecot imap process to endlessly search. Hi, I patched dovecot-1.1.beta14 to compile under gcc 2.95. __builtin_expect and __attribute__((malloc)) are only available since gcc 3.0, and __builtin_types_compatible_p since 3.1. Also the flexible array members (char a[]) are not available for gcc 2.95. So I replaced them with zero-extent arrays (char a[0]), which should also work, but that is gcc specific. A general pointer (char* a) should work as well, I guess. I have attached a patch that fixes all this. It is for beta13 but also works on beta14. BTW.: There is a typo in src/login-common/main.c, it's equivalent, not equilevant. Hi there, I'm happily using dovecot, and today tried to integrate the antispam imap plugin to automatically train/inform the crm114 spam classifier when moving messages in and out of folder "SPAM" However, when i try to move a message to folder spam, my client (Thunderbirds) says: The current command did not succeed. The mail server responden: antispam signature not found. Checking the source i found in signature.c *signature_hdr = "X-DSPAM-Signature"; This appears to originate from the DSPAM support of the plugin and apparently doesn't find these header lines. When using crm114 to sort spam there is no special header line. (or i didn't turn it on. do i _have_ to?) how can i get that antispam plugin to work with crm114? Hi there, After being extremely impressed from implementing it in some customer installations, I've decided to migrate our mail infrastructure to dovecot. Being able to have /bin/checkpassword support across the board for pop, imap, and smtp authentication, as well as being able to ditch stunnel for the SSL layer...where were you in 2001?!? :) I have two concerns, the first is about the proper index configuration in our environment, and the second is about the best way to migrate mailboxes. Some quick background: we've long been distributed, with an L4 switch up front and a Netapp in the back, Mysql for metadata. We have a cluster of several FreeBSD boxes doing filtering and maildir delivery (postfix/amavisd-new), and we have a server that users get sent to for pop/imap. If it's down, they get sent to one of the filter boxes instead. So, regarding the indexes: >From reading the docs, it appears I would not be able to use the dovecot LDA due to locking issues (bummer), and I should configure dovecot to store index files on a local disk of the primary pop/imap server rather than on the netapp. My first question would be, how much of a performance hit should I expect from having to update the indexes when mail is checked rather then when mail is delivered since I can't use the LDA? Is this a minor issue like I expect, or can it be something the user actually notices when checking mail? In a worst case scenario, if the pop/imap server is down, and another server is used, how long would it take to create an index for an account with a few hundered megs, several thousand messages? I'm wondering if, since I have plenty of overhead available on the netapp, I should just store the indexes there in case another server must be used. I'm basically looking for more information about the pros and cons of storing the indexes on the nfs volume in a situation where a single server would normally be providing pop/imap service. Regarding migration: My concerns regarding migration relate to how best to process existing maildirs by both converting the previous imap metadata and calculating an initial index for each account. First off, I can't seem to find any info on a way to create an initial index file for all of the mailboxes. Can anybody suggest a command I can use for this? I'm sure I just overlooked it. Regarding the migrations, we have both courier and bincimap to deal with. (We use qmail's pop, so no complications with migrating courier). Fortunately, courier is used for normal imap on 143, bincimap is only used for webmail. So, it would seem that metadata from bincimap could be ignored; the only thing it would seem important to preserve is mailbox subscriptions. Please correct this assumption if I'm wrong. bincimap uses a INBOX/folder format in the subscription file, however the actual folders are stored exactly the same as the INBOX.folder style of courier. So, it seems like my best option is to modify the courier-dovecot-migrate.pl script to consider the mailboxes subscribed to via bincimap. Here's a modified convert_subscriptions that seems to work well in limited testing, feel free to point out any idiot mistakes, it's been a while since I've done anything substantial in perl. I've finally added support for "normal" command/reply tests for my imaptest program (http://imapwiki.org/ImapTest) My plan is that imaptest will include some generic IMAP compliancy tests and Dovecot will include some more strict Dovecot-specific checks. "make dist" will run all these tests before building a tarball, so in future I shouldn't be able to release horribly broken versions. :) I haven't yet had time to implement all the features that I'd like (e.g. unordered list handling needs support), but I think the current features will allow testing quite a lot already. http://imapwiki.org/ImapTest/Tests explains how it works. There are currently two files: the actual test file and *.mbox file where the mails are appended from to the test mailbox. I'm going to also add *.conf file which allows specifying specific dovecot.conf settings. This way I can test all these different namespace (etc.) variations as well. Greetings- I'm running dovecot 1.0.10, but am seeing the "too little data" error that was supposedly fixed in 1.0.9. Not sure how long it's been going on. I have a straightforward mbox setup, and am using Thunderbird to check my inbox. It can't read the box. I (think that I) want a global Sieve setup like this: require ["include"]; include :global "spam.sieve"; include :personal "folders.sieve"; include :personal "vacation.sieve"; ... that does not fail if a user has not created the personal filters. Any ideas how to do something like that? I read the source, but it seems that a failed include will exit the Sieve, so the above will not work. Incidentally, I think I found a typo, so a patch is below. Hello, is possible in some way use on each ip address different certificate (for imap, for pop3). There are options like (but that is not enough for me): protocol imap { listen = *:10143 ssl_listen = *:10943 .. } protocol pop3 { listen = *:10100 .. } I have server for 4 domains (each has own ip address), so i need bind one ip address to one domain to one certificate(each certificate contains name of domain): domain1.tld (x.x.x.100) -> certificate domain1.tld.pem domain2.tld (x.x.x.101) -> certificate domain2.tld.pem domain3.tld (x.x.x.102) -> certificate domain3.tld.pem domain4.tld (x.x.x.103) -> certificate domain4.tld.pem Or i must run different instances of dovecot ? [Dovecot] Dovecot 1.0.10 <- IMAP -> Nokia N95 ?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has IMAP working between Dovecot 1.0.10 and a Nokia N95 (8GB version with firmware 15.x.x.x)? I've been trying to make it work using a default Dovecot config but the N95 just hangs when updating the folder list which has a bunch of nested folders. So I made a new test user and started from there. That works but the moment I add a folder in Evolution and a subfolder in that one then the N95 seems to fall apart. In wireshark all I see are a bunch of TCP transmissions over and over from the Dovecot server to the N95 and the N95 just sits there. I also configured Dovecot with a basic private namespace but that did not make any difference: namespace private { separator = / prefix = location = maildir:/var/spool/mail/%u/ inbox = yes } Any tips much appreciated. Hi, right now I have default_pass_scheme = MD5-CRYPT in my dovecot-sql-auth.conf file. This works; however I noticed because of history a lot of my users still have a CRYPT password (not a MD5-CRYPT password). Hello, I need to know how to make a quota warning message from Dovecot or Postfix. I'm using Dovecot 1.0.rc15 and Postfix 2.3.3. I didn't installed the quota-warning patch cause i read that it doesn't work with dovecot filesystem quotas (as i'm using). What else can i use for this? I wanna warn users when they reach ..let's say 90% of their quota by sending an e-mail to their address. I'm using maildir format. I did a little too much copy/paste, and ended up with an ldap config file containing a line of the form user_filter = user_filter = (&objectClass=... (with "user_filter =" repeated). This caused the auth process to segfault (v1.1.rc1). I suppose that I can reproduce this problem if more information is needed. Hello. I am on an irrational crusade against unneeded timers (it started as a well-meaining power saving exercise), and I have now started removing polling in Dovecot. Attached is a patch with the work I did on this the other night. Would something like that be acceptable, or should I make it in a different way? There seems to be no one-shot timer support, right? Is this patch perhaps in the 1.1 rc1version included? I'm not sure because I don't really know how it's to use. I thought about returning some password fields from a database. If not could someone provide a working patch ? Hello, I'm trying to migrate a legacy system to Dovecot in which I need to support mbox format storage with the following parameters: Inbox is in: /var/spool/mail/%u Additional mail folders are stored in: /var/spool/mail2/%u (i.e. Spam, Sent, Trash, Drafts, etc.) /var/spool/mail and /var/spool/mail2 are configured with the same permissions. (Read/write/execute user root, Read/write/execute group mail). I've added mail as an additional group in the Dovecot configuration. # dovecot --version 1.0.10 # 1.0.10: /etc/dovecot.conf ssl_cert_file: /etc/pki/dovecot/certs/dovecot.pem ssl_key_file: /etc/pki/dovecot/private/dovecot.pem login_dir: /var/run/dovecot/login login_executable: /usr/libexec/dovecot/imap-login first_valid_uid: 100 mail_extra_groups: mail mail_location: mbox:/var/spool/mail2/%u:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u:INDEX=MEMORY auth default: passdb: driver: pam userdb: driver: passwd The problem is what when I run this configuration, I am not able to see any of the contents of /var/spool/mail2. I ran around with this problem for a while and ultimately found that the following fixes it: cp -Rpfd /var/spool/mail2 /home Change Dovecot to use /home/mail2/%u instead: # 1.0.10: /etc/dovecot.conf ssl_cert_file: /etc/pki/dovecot/certs/dovecot.pem ssl_key_file: /etc/pki/dovecot/private/dovecot.pem login_dir: /var/run/dovecot/login login_executable: /usr/libexec/dovecot/imap-login first_valid_uid: 100 mail_extra_groups: mail mail_location: mbox:/home/mail2/%u:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u:INDEX=MEMORY auth default: passdb: driver: pam userdb: driver: passwd Further investigation revealed that no path outside of /home would work for the storage of the mbox directory. Any ideas? Everything seems to work great except for this one (pretty major) issue. Also, /home, /var, and / are separate filesystems. I'm not sure if that's playing into this or not (doesn't seem like it, since it seems to have no issue storing INBOX in /var/spool/mail). Thanks, -Bill

Hi, What exactly do you mean with "deliver preps the index"? Dovecot itself preps/creates/alters the index, when retrieving mail; right? Or are you (probably) saying this is one more benefit of using 'deliver'. Anyone know of any 'deliver'/(dovecot) stresstests with regards to forking and threading of the deliver binary? Hi, I just finished setting up a functional design with Dovecot+Sieve and it works like a charm. However I'm having serious doubts about the scalability of this. Here is part of a discussion we're having here: About Dovecot+Sieve. What happens here is that your MTA is configured to pass _all_ email to Dovecot which is configured as a LDA. In practice this means this in the Exim config: command = /usr/local/dovecot/libexec/dovecot/deliver So you call on a single binary "deliver". This binary then looks for a .dovecot.sieve file in the user maildir, _compiles_ it to .dovecot.sievec file, and than drops the mail according to the rules. Calling a single binary: that's isn't threaded, doesn't fork, and that has to compile a file (everytime?) it's called isn't scalable. Multiply this with 100 mails(calls) per second and this is bound for problems. The Dovecot/Sieve implementation is functional but not very elegant or robust. But this can be explained because Dovecot is build for _retrieving_ mail (imap/pop) and _not_ delivering mail. Any thoughts on this? Are there people out there with large Dovecot+Sieve implementations (100k+ users). Are there benchmarks available; how well does it perform under heavy load (mails/sec)? Cheers, Jan

I used 1.0.10 with the quota-rewrite patch for v1.0. Greetings - new to the list, so apologies of I'm asking questions that have been brought up before. I work for a large email provider, currently using qmail, vpopmail and courier-imap. We tend to make fairly regular customizations of the software, and if you folks have any knowledge of courier's code layout, you probably can understand why we hate working on it. Anyway, I am looking at the possibility of migrating to dovecot, after a quick review of the code layout. It is MUCH nicer to read. But I have a few specific questions: 1. We customize our maildir system fairly heavily, and I'm wondering where the maildir code is located. Specifically, anywhere the app actually does work on disk related to folders, mail content and quotas. While I have reviewed the code in brief, I thought it would be easier to poke this list to get pointed in the right direction. 2. Courier works quite well over NFS for us, and I'm curious why your documentation covers NFS more specifically. What aspects of the filesystem are normally used that don't translate easily to work over NFS? Do you use stuff like inotify or atimes? 3. If anyone has any suggestions on how to migrate tens of thousands of imap users from courier to dovecot in a few hour window, I'd like to hear them :) Thanks, Aaron Wiebe

Provided he writes a working .dovecot.sieve script, is there a way to put all those already delivered mails through Dovecot's LDA and thus have the sieve filter rules applied? [Dovecot] Postfix on one host/Dovecot (mailboxes) on another - How?

Hi, I'm using Dovecot 1.0.5 on OpenSUSE 10.3. I run postfix/amavis/clamav on one host, postfix uses LDAP to identify whether or not users exist. On this same machine I was running dovecot, so I used dovecot LDA on Postfix master.cf (as mentioned on http://heinous.org/wiki/Virtual_Domains,_Postfix,_Dovecot_LDA,_and_LDAP#Pos…) Now I want to run Dovecot on another machine, how should I configure postfix on that first machine? first machine: the domain my users know/use; webmail; postfix/amavis/clamav; mx record for domain all users have mail addresses; imapproxy (pointing to the second machine, where the imap server sits). second machine: just dovecot and user's mailboxes. [Dovecot] Deliver - Virtual users

Hello... I have dovecot 1.0.10 running with users in an LDAP database. Things are working as they should with IMAP. However, I can't seem to make deliver w. postfix work they way I want. My problems are: Mail to users who do not exist in LDAP or locally are accepted and mailfolders are created. I want mail to users that do not exist in LDAP or locally to be rejected. Mail is delivered to users even though they are over quota. Below I have included a bit of my log. This is what I see when sending a mail to an existing user. I don't understand the part that says: dovecot: auth(default): passwd(tbp(a)kontrapunkt.dk): lookup In my database users are stored as usernames without domains. Deliver seems to lookup the name with domain? The lookup ends with "unknown user". Then I wonder, why is the mail delivered if the user is unknown? I have included the "protocol lda" part from my dovecot.conf and the result of "dovecot -n". Can someone help me get this sorted out? When you post to doveco(a)dovecot.org a copy is sent to me anyway. I'm not sure that I can help. I think you should check your permissions on the folder. And I think you should try with: fileinto "Junk"; Instead of: fileinto ".Junk"; (without the preceding dot that is) The preceding dot will automatically be added to the folder name by dovecot so it may create confusion if you use it too. Dovecot always uses the dot-prefix on folder names in the file system but this isn't really part of the IMAP/Sieve folder name that you wanna use. Regards, Mikkel

Hi, Is there a way to enable telemetry or debug-level logging in Dovecot IMAP, to see the exact IMAP command issued by the client and server? E.g. to confirm if a certain MUA is indeed using IMAP IDLE, or if it's doing LIST or LSUB. The IMAP connection is made over TLS/SSL, so tcpdump won't work. Thanks, Robert

Running CentOS Linux 5 with sendmail-procmail putting email in /var/spool/mail. I'm running pop3 only with the servers configured to authenticate with ldap (which is configured and running OK). I do have this same configuration on an older FC6 box and it works fine. I'm thinking I just need to upgrade dovecot given all the nss_ldap problems it has had, but I hate not using RPM packages and CentOS does not have upgraded packages. Hardware is Dell PowerEdge 1900 (64bit) with 2G RAM. Hopefully I'm doing something stupid and there's an easy fix for the packages and configuration I have. I'm seeing the following in the /var/log/maillog when I run dovecot. When I log in via telnet, I get the connection, but it never responds when I enter a user. [Dovecot] Dovecot User Script?

I am new to Dovecot. I have been using Postfix as a mail relay to our Exchange box and have been happy with the setup. The Linux box also runs Apache and VSFTPD for our WWW and FTP services. However, we are now starting up a new smaller domain. I am grabbed a spare box and have setup Fedora 7 on the machine. I am can handle apache, vsftpd, and postfix alright, but I am not familiar with dovecot. I need a simple setup of about 15-20 users. Instead of setting up each user through the terminal is there a PHP script that anyone would recommend? A setup of virtual users in mysql is preferred, since I already have that installed. I found a HOWTO on Howtoforge with ISPconfig, but it did not setup Dovecot. They forgot that setup. Any suggestions would be useful. Thanks! David White dwhite(a)fddisystems.com

Hello, I have dovecot mail server on a Debian etch: dovecot-common 1.0.10-1~bpo40+1 dovecot-imapd 1.0.10-1~bpo40+1 dovecot-pop3d 1.0.10-1~bpo40+1 It is configured with the quota plugins: protocol imap { mail_plugins = quota imap_quota imap_client_workarounds = outlook-idle } plugin { quota = fs } The problem is that I always get used space but not the limit, and the limit is not the same for all the users, I have tried from thunderbird and horde IMP from another server. Why is not reporting the quota limit? [Dovecot] corrupted index?

We're seeing the following sporadically in the log file (single line broken into separate lines for readability): Corrupted index cache file /home/user/mail/.index/.imap/INBOX/dovecot.index.cache: invalid record size We're running dovecot-1.0.7-2.fc8. The imap directory is in the user's NFS-mounted /home directory, but doveot is running on the same host as the /home filesystem. There's plenty of disk space and no other significant system problems. The mail index directory we rm'd a week/so ago, so doveoct has had the opportunity to rebuild it. Any ideas on what might be causing this? Is this issue anything to worry about? thanks.

For quite some time I have seen dovecot imap exit with a sig11 without any other error message, but usually with the frequency of between once per week and once per day (per server). A few weeks ago I finally enabled core dumping with debug symbols and it seemed to happen less often. I finally caught a coredump that wasn't overwritten. [Dovecot] Shared Mailbox

Hi all, I am a very new dovecot user and I do not have many experience in Linux configuration. I use dovecot v1.0.rc.15 (Debian package) IMAP service with virtual domains and users in /home/vmail and everything runs perfectly. Now I want to share the "testfolder" under the mailbox of "user1" to all memebers of "example.net" but I don?t understand the wiki pages (http://wiki.dovecot.org/SharedMailboxes) The ACL-plugin is on in dovecot.conf. my structure under /home/vmail -example.net --user1 ---/.drafts ---/.INBOX.testfolder ---/.Sent ---/.trash ---/Cur ........ --user2 --- (dito) -xxxx.de --user3 --user4 -test.com --user5 --user6 can anybody help with a configuration tip? Hello... I'm experimenting with controlling users quota by manipulation the maildirsize files in virtual users (LDAP) homedirs (Is this OK?). This works with IMAP, but deliver via postfix delivers mail to users even if they are over quota. I would like to reject new mails in this case. Any ideas? Thanks, Tobias

Hi all, I'm using maildir dovecot on DRBD home, in the primary machine the emails delivered works fine and in the secondary machine works fine as well. Part of flow are the following: - procmail get the mail from Sendmail - procmail ask to deliver/dovecot if have any retriction (sizer mailbox, etc) - procmail put the mail on inbox user. I have installed postfix, dovecot, mysql as per: http://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/DovecotLDAPostfixAdminMySQL ..on Debian Etch. I thought mailboxes were created by postfixadmin or postfix but I only get an error: warning: connect to transport dovecot: No such file or directory ..in the postfix log. No /var/vmail/example.com is created. After creating the domain directory and user directory, applying correct ownership, still it made no difference. I load quotas from users homefolders using postlogin like this: ------------------------- #!/bin/sh # Read users quota if [ -f ~/quota ]; then export QUOTA=`cat ~/quota` fi # Start IMAP session exec /usr/lib/dovecot/imap ------------------------- User without a quota-file in their homedirs get a quota set in dovecot.conf. Im using LDA. According to the wiki this should not work: http://wiki.dovecot.org/Quota?highlight=quota : This post-login trick unfortunately doesn't work with deliver <http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA>. If you need it, you're pretty much out of luck for now. v1.1 *quota* <http://wiki.dovecot.org/Quota/New> makes this possible. According to my tests it does indeed work. What is not supposed to work? [Dovecot] Duplicate Messages, Different X-UIDs?

We're running into an issue where sendmail is only receiving one e-mail, but after a client accesses the message via IMAP and moves it to another IMAP folder, the message duplicates but each message has different X-UID headers. Has anyone ever seen this type of anomaly before? Is it a bad IMAP client, or a known bug? Running 1.0.7 Thanks!

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, some users are to read other users mailboxes (secretary-boss relationship), in order to filter out minor issues, SPAM, appointment requests etc. pp. The "boss" wants to see/access his/her mailbox the usual way, no fancy stuff. Furthermore, this is a N:N relationship, meaning one user needs to read one set of user's mailboxes, another user needs to read another set of mailboxes; both may or may not overlap. My idle solution would be to create some name space or a special "shared" directory in the secretary's Maildir/home dir and symlink the Maildir of all the "boss"'s Maildir roots. Because only the "secretary" shall use/see the definition, I'm not to make one namespace per relationship, but predefine one namespace and issue the path via userdb, right? Does somebody has some setup of this sort running? Are there some differences in v1.1 in this aspect? Currently I've setup that the secretaries connect with the real account of the boss(es), what is not good in my eyes, the secretaries should use their own accounts accessing the mails. [Dovecot] quota doesn't work?

I'm using dovecot 1.0.rc15 with debian etch. In dovecot.conf I have set mail_plugins = quota imap_quota for imap mail_plugins = quota for pop3 and quota = maildir:storage=10240. I seems that it doesn't work 'cause I send messages over 10M and it doesn't block my maildir box. I have to do something more?

In Open Directory, a users mail-info is saved as XML-formated data in the field apple-user-mailattribute as seen below. I want to extract the value key "kUserDiskQuota". [Dovecot] Passwordless Login Auth

I have Dovecot 1.0.5 running imaps successfully with Postfix on Ubuntu. Authorization is by SASL. Currently, my mail client (mutt) requests a password to access my folders. I would like to configure Dovecot so that a user logged into the localhost (i.e., already authenticated) does not receive the password prompt. Remote logins should of course demand the authentication, but if I'm logged into the server via SSH, for example, I'd like to be able to run mutt without the password prompt. Is this a viable proposition? Hi, this is sort of off topic but I'm using dovecot with postfix on centos 5 and I have multiple virtual domains and I want to be able to have virtual admin's add/remove mappings/users for their own domains. I have looked around and haven't found many solutions just wondering what everyone is using for virtual mail management. TIA, Paul

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get dovecot to authenticate against LDAP. And it's a first time to run both dovecot (at all) and OpenLDAP (at all). Versions are below. Dovecot: 1.0.10 OpenLDAP 2.3.40 Dovecot cannot bind to the dn. This may be due to the fact that all google-able documentation doesn't give good examples or anyhting to hint. I'd prefer to use the rootdn by slapd.conf, but if I have to use a entry in the LDAP database, I will do that. I've tried the rootdn, password, overriding password with the same hash as in the slapd.conf via {SSHA} and nothing works. I then tried to create a uid (and dn) within the LDAP database, and it can't bind to that either. Long story short, I would very much appreciate a working example with OpenLDAP v2.3x and Dovecot 1.0x, on a FreeBSD 6.x host. If it makes any difference (I don't think it does), the mailserver is going to be located within a jail, which has given some problems to some software that are looking for a specific /dev entry or being able to customize that entry (permissions, links, etc). Thank you all for excellent software, and I really hope I can get this working. I'd like to point the finger at dovecot not being able to read userPassword but since no debugging information can be extracted, I have to assume.
