AuthDatabase CheckPassword broken?

I had been using the CheckPassword authentication interface with dovecot 2.2.15, https://wiki2.dovecot.org/AuthDatabase/CheckPassword, and it was working. After upgrading to 2.2.33.2 CheckPassword no longer works. The referenced wiki page says, Checkpassword Interface Read <username> NUL <password> NUL from fd 3. I've checked the information read from fd 3 with 2.2.33.2 and I get <username> followed by 3 nulls. I'm guessing the 2nd null is supposed to be the password. Why is this no longer working? How can I fix it? THX --Mark

Dovecot 2.3 on CentOS 7.

Greetings! I'm having a bit of trouble trying out Dovecot 2.3 on CentOS 7. Hi, I have the mailbox of jon.doe(a)example.com just migrated only with mails after migration, is it ok to run: doveadm -o mail_fsync=never sync -1 -R -u joe(a)example.com imapc: wiil that import all mails missing mails to the new server? Hello, Sometimes, when delivering mails, this warning appears in my syslog: > lda(...): Warning: Failed to parse return-path header: Invalid character in localpart dovecot-lda still exits with 0 and the mail is inserted into my inbox. Looking at the mails in question, I determined that the error is caused by a multiline Return-Path header. The header is 'Return-Path:', \r\n, two spaces, '<...>', \r\n According to rfc2822 folding rules, that should be valid - the Return-Path header allows CFWS at that location. Hi there! I splitted my Mailarchiv to an extra namespace. Because i have some Problems with the Archiv. I can open all Folders from Mailarchiv with dovecot. But i want to have a "all archives" Mailbox to search in all messages in only one virtual mailbox. Why does dovecot reject password when authorizing by a certificate?

We have FreeBSD-server with dovecot installed on it as IMAP-server. My user and password database is a text file with plaintext passwords. Clients connect to imap-server via TLS protocol and plaintext password. All works fine. But I want to configure ability to authorize with a client certificates. I have generated a client certificate and imported it to email-client. Also I have configured dovecot to verify client certificates. But email-client cannot authorize: Password mismatch. Why dovecot reject my password in this case? Please help! send specific NDR message for users in certain OU

Hi, The question can perhaps be made more generic like this: Can dovecot generate a *specific* NDR (or an autoreply) for accounts that meet a specific criterium, such as: - user account was found under OU=to-delete,CN=company... contrary to the regular location CN=Users,CN=company... We would like to move to-be-deleted users to this container, before actually deleting them. That gives us an easy way to revert, if the deletion turns out to be erroneous. We could do that with via a sieve config for those accounts, but if dovecot could send a "delivery failure"-type specific for those accounts (with instructions who to contact to revert the situation) it would be very easy: only move the user to the specific OU, and have the system do the rest. Can this be done? (dovecot 2.1.17 on wheezy, yes we know we should upgrade, and we also will, but it runs rock solid...) MJ

2 panics, 1 segmentation fault in dovecot 2.3.0 (fts)

Hi, While testing our migration to dovecot 2.3.0, we encountered 2 panics, 1 segmentation fault while we wanted to rebuild the solr indizes. Problem [1] was encountered while rebuilding the indizes, and now I don't know how many mails/documents are indexed or where it got stuck. [2] and [3] encountered while just playing around, since I did not know of "tokenize" and did not find a lot of information about it. This is a ubuntu 16.04 machine, dovecot 2.3.0 compiled from source ( + the patch for the recent zlib problem). "doveadm index" runs on a ~ 4GB mdbox-zipped-mailbox for about 3-4 minutes before aborting with the message above, beforehand I did a "/opt/dovecot/bin/doveadm fts rescan -A". When I repeat "doveadm index" it aborts after about 4 seconds, after a "/opt/dovecot/bin/doveadm fts rescan -A" it runs again for 3-4 minutes. Apache tika logs, but those are probably not related to the problem, however, the devs might want investigate the last line: WARN Parse exception Expected ';', got "," determining content disposition javax.mail.internet.ParseException: Expected ';', got "," and org.apache.tika.exception.ZeroByteFileException: InputStream must have > 0 bytes I would be happy if you could have a look at this, please, and of course just tell me what further information you need. problem with lda

Hello, I am currently testing the upgrade from our dovecot v2.2.23 to 2.3.0. I have a strange problem with lda. We use bounce mails for internal users if they try to send virus/spammails. The exact same config works with 2.2.23, but not with 2.3.0. The relevant postfix/master.cf part: dovecot unix - n n - - pipe flags=DRhu user=vmail:vmail argv=/opt/dovecot/libexec/dovecot/deliver -d ${recipient} -f ${sender} On the same machine, with 2.2.23 I get a bounce mail when trying to send a virus, with the subject "VIRUS in message apparently from you (Eicar-Test-Signature)", to both the users inbox as well as to the mailbox of virusalert(a)ourdomain.internal With 2.3.0, in the logs I get an error: relay=dovecot, delay=0.01, delays=0/0/0/0, dsn=5.3.0, status=bounced (command line usage error. Command output: lda: Fatal: Invalid -f parameter: Missing domain and the alert message is only sent to virusalert(a)ourdomain.internal, but not to the user who tried to send the mail. The relevant part of our dovecot.conf: protocol lda { mail_plugins = " quota zlib sieve acl mail_log notify" postmaster_address = postmaster(a)ourdomain.internal } Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Quota plugin creates IMAP folder

Hi everyone, I have noticed recently that Dovecot creates lock directories under users' Maildirs which look like IMAP folders. This is bad since users will see IMAP folders that are not supposed to be there. In my logs I see dovecot: imap(...): Error: file_create_locked(/.../Maildir/.vsize.lock) failed: Is a directory The directory in question # ls /.../Maildir/.vsize.lock/ cur/ dovecot.index.log dovecot-uidlist maildirfolder new/ tmp/ so Dovecot seems to think this to be an IMAP folder. I am using Dovecot 2.2.27 under Debian, built from source, the lock_method is set to fnctl, and the quota plugin uses the maildir method. Can somebody advice me on how to fix this? Single mailbox optimizations

Hello, I have unconventional load profile for my email server and I would like to ask if someone can suggest optimizations in my case. I have only one mailbox on the server for collecting emails from variety of external mail servers. I use Postfix for collecting emails and Dovecot to provide IMAP for downloading emails from this mailbox. Currently Postfix configured to use LMTP for transferring emails to Dovecot. Dovecot mail storage format is mdbox. Everything was in order (no incoming and active queues in Postfix) when daily incoming email count was up to 1 million emails. But now I have to process up to 2 million incoming emails and I faced bottleneck of 10 emails per second for saving emails from Postfix active queue to mdbox using LMTP. Currently Postfix receives about 20 emails per second, incoming and active queues in Postfix are growing and I have to find the way to speed up transferring process from Postfix to mdbox. This setup is running on the virtual machine with 8 CPU and 8 GB RAM. CPU loaded only by dovecot/lmtp process but not more than 20% per core. I/O wait is 2-3%. Disk load is about 200 wMB/sec and 300 rKB/sec (and this sounds quite a bit for our storage capacity) . Postfix has destination concurrency limit 20 for default and virtual transport (I’m using virtual transport due to virtual domains configuration). Strace showed up that dovecot/lmtp processes have some delays only on waiting for write lock on truncation log file dovecot.index.log. I have temporary moved all index files including truncation log to tmpfs, but this did not help. The only thing that helped me to increase speed up to 20 emails per second is removing almost all emails from the mailbox (with empty Inbox I got even 30 emails per second). But I have to keep all incoming emails in the mailbox at least for one week so this way is unacceptable. So I would like to ask for suggestions, because I can’t find the root cause of this bottleneck. Questions about SPECIAL-USE IMAP extension

I'd like to configure my dovecot service to use the IMAP SPECIAL-USE extension, but have a few questions for those who have used them, or are knowledgable about its use. Using this configuration as an example, namespace { ... mailbox xxx { special_use = \Sent } } Q1) Am I correct that mail client that don't understand SPECIAL-USE extentions will behave the same way with repect to outgoing mailbox storage? Q2) Will SPECIAL-USE enabled mail clients switch the mailbox used for outgoing mail from whatever it was using (e.g. "Sent Mail") to the (new) special-use mailbox "xxx"? Q3) Will SPECIAL-USE enabled mail clients connecting for the first time use "xxx" for outgoing mail, auto-creating it if necessary? Or will "xxx" be used only if the user does not manually configure a mailbox for this purpose? Q4) If I have an additional configuration mailbox yyy { special_use = \Sent } how does it affect Q2, Q3? dovecot 2.1.x and 2.2.x has "just worked" with a minimal configuration for just about anything I've ever thrown at it. Now, with 2.3.0, there is one user (and only one user) that continually sees horrible delays, which is not surprising given the logs: Error: imap(user)<70175><356C8oljxrCBUppP>: Timeout (180s) while waiting for lock for transaction log file /path/to/home/directory/.imap/dovecot.list.index.log (WRITE lock held by pid 69995) where 69995 is the pid of the first dovecot process and 70175 is the pid of, e.g., the first LIST command. What's unique about this user is that he's the only one using linux (thunderbird) and his home directory is NFS-mounted. I understand that something is incorrect with the locking, but there are a couple of issues that I do not understand: 1) Is there a default that changed between 2.2 and 2.3 that would cause this? Despite potential issues associated with NFS, I didn't see the problem with 2.2. There is nothing in my conf file related to locking, so if there was a change, it must be a default for 2.3 (from doveconf -a): dotlock_use_excl = yes lock_method = fcntl mbox_dotlock_change_timeout = 2 mins mbox_lock_timeout = 5 mins mbox_read_locks = fcntl mbox_write_locks = dotlock fcntl 2) If the problem is related to NFS locks, why would the problem persist when the user runs thunderbird from the server where his home directory *is not* NFS-mounted? PDFs getting mangled

Since upgrading to 2.3.0 / 0.5.0.1, incoming PDFs are getting mangled. It seems to be happening when I use vnd.dovecot.filter. When I comment out the block, things come through fine. Auth cache prevents login when non-password fields change

The auth cache contains all fields returned by "password_query" (in itself a little odd), including the fields "nologin" and "reason". If a user is cached with "nologin=Y" and the database-source is changed so nologin condition is no longer true, then the cache prevents login for as long as the TTL remain? is there any way around this? Hello Everyone: When user got quota exceed and trying to delete mail. Most MUA's default "move to trash folder" will proceed by copy mail to trash folder,then by delete/expunge it(copy before expunge). Unfortunately this will not success due to quota exceed. There are several new and exciting features in it. I'm especially happy about the new logging and statistics code, which will allow us to generate statistics for just about everything. We didn't have time to implement everything we wanted for them yet, and there especially aren't all that many logging events yet that can be used for statistics. We'll implement those to v2.3.1, which might also mean that some of the APIs might still change in v2.3.1 if that's required. We also have new lib-smtp server code, which was used to implement SMTP submission server and do a partial rewrite for LMTP server. Please test these before v2.3.0 to make sure we don't have any bad bugs left! BTW. The v2.3.0 will most likely be signed with a new PGP key ED409DA1. Some of the larger changes: * Various setting changes, see https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Upgrading/2.3 * Logging rewrite started: Logging is now based on hierarchical events. This makes it possible to do various things, like: 1) giving consistent log prefixes, 2) enabling debug logging with finer granularity, 3) provide logs in more machine readable formats (e.g. json). Everything isn't finished yet, especially a lot of the old logging code still needs to be translated to the new way. * Statistics rewrite started: Stats are now based on (log) events. It's possible to gather statistics about any event that is logged. Strange thing on log rotation front

Hi all! I've decided to rotate the dovecot logs automatically on my freebsd 10.4 server using the system's newsyslog feature. Hello Florent, How did you proceed with the upgrade? Did you follow the recommended steps guide to upgrade ceph? (mons first, then OSDs, then MDS) Did you interrupt dovecot before upgrading the MDS specially? Did you remount the filesystem? Did you upgrade the ceph client too? Give people the complete scene and someone might be able to help you. Ask on ceph-users list too. Hiya all, I'm seeing this "Fatal: nfs flush requires mail_fsync=always" error on my testbed. Replication configuration

Hello, I am trying to configure replication between two servers, for only specified virtual users, without success of course :) I am using LDAP for accounting. I have tried to pass a file with list like this: replication_dsync_parameters = -d -N -l 30 -U -F /etc/dovecot/list I have even tried to specify users with LDAP filter: iterate_filter = (|(uid=user1)(uid=user2)) both without success... But replicator every 5 minutes tries to replicate all users. I want this mainly for testing (i am preparing to server migration) and for bigger control who and when will be replicated/transferred. Submission/SMTP proxy server

Sorry if this seems elementary - but a question on implementation/usage/purpose of this. My understanding is at this time the SMTP proxy server is only that - it does not implement any further functionality. So its availability now is purely for testing purposes. Is that accurate? I secondly assume that this intended for trusted clients only - so this is not intended for processing email submitted via port 25. And thirdly - if a separate firewall/anti-spam/virus/authentication service is run outside of the MTA (like ASSP) then the Dovecot proxy should be inserted between that and the final MTA? -- Daniel

Hi, some of my maintenance scripts weren't working as expected and I finally found that this only happens if the user was mapped to a backend server reachable via IPv6: On a director: doveadm mailbox status -u username messages Junk returns Junk messages=203 (if backend is connected via IPv4) or Lookup of host ipv6addr:542 failed: ... (if backend is connected via IPv6) doveadm_tcp_connect_port tried a net_gethostbyname with "ipv6addr:542" as hostname. Non-destructive deduplication

Greetings. I use Dovecot 2.2.29.1 as my IMAP server. Owing to a bug in my mail client [1], several unique messages (mostly in my Sent folder) have duplicate Message-ID headers. Dovecot itself doesn't seem to be bothered by this, though my mail client is confused by the false duplicates. (It screws up the threading display, and results in data loss when I run the client's deduplication filter.) I would like to change the Message-ID headers in the "duplicate" message files stored in my IMAP server so that they are unique. I realize that this has disadvantages of its own, but I can't think of a better alternative. So this leads me to two questions: 1) Will Dovecot get confused if I simply open the message files in a text editor and manually change their Message-ID headers? If so, how should I go about changing the Message-ID headers? 2) Does there exist any tool that will scan a maildir folder to find messages with duplicate Message-IDs, and automatically rewrite the Message-ID headers so that they are (probably) unique? I could probably kludge together a quick shell script, but if someone's already gone to the trouble of writing such a tool and making it relatively robust, I'd rather use that instead. Hi there! I have more namespaces. One for subscription, another one "inbox", then one for the archiv and a shared and a public namespace. And than is there a namespace for virtual mailboxes. In the namespace for virtual mailboxes is one mailbox wich gives me all emails in the archiv namespace #cat dovecot-virtual Archiv/* all The namespace is normally hidden, but for debugging i make it visible. doveadm search -u jakob mailbox Real/Archiv all lists all the emails. So i want to integrate this virtual mailbox in another namespace. Client Identification

I have two seperate clients (using fetchmail) on two seperate machines that use the same login and the same ip address as each other fetching their mail over IMAP using IMAP idle. Naturally Dovecot assumes that they are the same machine but they are not so messages only get downloaded to one of the machines rather than both which is what I want. How do I get Dovecot to recognize them as two individual clients so that mail downloads to both of them? Regards, spaceman

Hello, In the past (older dovecot versions) I've tuned the SQL "password_query" of our mail server so that when the user has the account blocked for some reason (expired, need password change, etc.) the query returns nologin=1 and a verbose reason like reason="Your account is expired please change the password" and it worked very well with IMAP clients. I'm now seeing that despite the message returned by the SQL, the IMAP server always returns a generic error "NO [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Authentication failed." When in the process of testing out the 2.3.0 version of Dovecot, we noticed that on a busy server, imap-login can sometimes take 100% CPU and remain there indefinitely. Hello, i have a problem with a very huge mail account. The INBOX of this account has ~1.1 - ~1.7 million mails inside. And from time to time the index cache make problems and i got the following in the logs: --- Snip --- Jan 10 20:43:04 XXXXX dovecot: imap(XXXXX): Panic: file mail-index-util.c: line 37 (mail_index_uint32_to_offset): assertion failed: (offset < 0x40000000) --- Snap --- I skip the raw backtrace to keep the post "small", but can hand it in later if needed. Got this for UID FETCH, UID SEARCH, UID SORT, ... The size of the file dovecot.index.cache of INBOX was in the last seen problem situations between 1.1GB to 2.3GB. To solve the problem the last times was to reduce the amount of mails to under 1.7 million (seems to be the limit to trigger the problem), delete the index cache and let him rebuild with a controled request. But this is a odd situation (because it confused 3rd party tooling, which access this mailbox) and i cannot find any helpful informations to solve this problem. Sharding it into several folders to keep the amount of mails in INBOX small is not an option currently. If further informations are needed, just let me know. Thanks for any help! Kind regards Stefan

Managesieve cannot access script store

Hi, I am trying to get sieve working on a new OpenSuse leap 42.2 install. On my 'old' OpenSuse 13.2 machine it worked fine. The problem is that Managesieve can't access the script store and won't let me create any script. It says permission denied on ~/sieve directory. See log below. I 've activated debug logging, but that doesn't give any clues to me. Ignored mount points forgotten on reboot

It seems this should be stored in /etc/dovecot to remain persistent across reboots. <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filesystem_Hierarchy_Standard> I discovered this when I saw a dovecot error message in /var/log/maillog that some of my automounts (that don't contain mail directories) were missing. Latest dovecot from this distro is dovecot-2.2.10-8.el7.x86_64. Does the new release fix this? (I haven't seen any real problems from it, just log noise.)

Can Dovecot reject unencrypted mail?

Hi, Is it possible to configure Dovecot to reject mail that is not encrypted. In other words: 1. If the user tries to send an unencrypted message from their MUA, the server rejects it. 2. If a third-party tries to send an unencrypted message to the user, the server rejects it. The end result would be that no mail stored on the server can be decrypted by the administrator. I am aware that: * "Encrypted" could mean a lot of things. I'm imagining GPG encryption, but am open to other supported methods. * This configuration would not suit everyone, e.g. someone posting to a public mailing list :) Regards, David

Hi David, I don't know how to do what you want with dovecot, but what you are asking is easy and straightforward with Postfix. Postfix can easily be configured to feed mail through a milter ("mail filter") interface. You would just need to write a milter (there is a nice python library) that checks if the messages is "encrypted" to your specifications and tells Postfix to bounce the message if its not. This would be a nice backscatter-free solution. After you have the milter written, you specify it with the "smtpd_milters" option for Postfix. openssl question

Hi we are using dovecot on secure port when i try to command openssl s_client -connect mail.mydomain:pop3s it works perfect. [image: Inline image 1] Also i check from https://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html web page i can see all correct ceritificate paths but i try to this command openssl s_client -connect mail.mydomain:pop3s -starttls imap it says CONNECTED and hang. second command is correct? also my thunderbird client doesnt work with 143 port and STARTTLS. is this general issue or have we config error? thanks in advance Selçuk YAZAR

The hard part is trying to figure out what the client is doing. Maybe you can turn on dovecot "verbose_ssl = yes" and that will dump SSL diagnostics logs to point out where server/client cipher negotiations fail. You can also try and run "openssl s_server -cipher 'kEECDH:+...'" on an alternate port/host, point your client at it, and let this utility dump out the SSL cipher negotions. Hello, I use the zlib and imap_zlib plugins on FreeBSD. As of 2.3.0, my logs are producing these errors every so often, but AFAICT the messages themselves aren't getting corrupted. My version output is below, under the heading "My actual question". Background to my woes: =================== I installed a new virtual machine with CentOS 6.9 (I'll refer to it as xxserverxx) and included the postfix server. I configured a virtual network, did a decent job of hardening firewalls for both physical host and virtual guests. I was able to get mail / mailx to send and receive mail on the command line using postfix using Maildir delivery. Sent and received email to/from self as well as from an external email address hosted elsewhere. But not being satisfied enough with mailx mail client... wanting an IMAP client on the same 192 virtual private subnet, I used yum to install dovecot package from CentOS repositories on the virtual mail guest server. Configured mail client (Evolution installled via graphical interface on a CentOS 6.9 workstation on the same subnet), and configured dovecot, used mbox delivery, struggled with documentation to understand how server mail directories/files are actually used, fixed a problem or two, but did not have IMAP send and receive working. Then, wanting to be on the latest stable version of dovecot anyway, I downloaded dovecot 2.3.0 from dovecot.org and attempted to follow the instructions on building from source, but in the end all I could really find was the simple sequence of steps, make configure, make and make install, so that's what I did. Continued struggling with configuration (needing to be somewhat certain that defaults would not create a completely wide open mail server that would be hacked in 10 minutes, since this is on a real physical host with a public ip. I actually got an email to get appended to the users mbox file. Evolution Email client at one point actually logged into dovecot/IMAP and retrieved 3 received emails. The problem is that Email client is now failing on permissions in creating index files. I've gotten to the point of going to extreme measures to "fix" that file creation problem, but to no avail. Now unfortunately I've found an underlying problem to everything, going back to the beginning where I upgraded dovecot. My actual question: ================ I don't want troubleshooting help, but help with documentation. It appears that make install has not replaced the old 2.0.9 binaries with new 2.3.0 binaries, even though it faithfully created everying under the /usr directories, e.g., /usr/bin, etc., and make install did not set some variable or otherwise configure for the new version to run instead of the old. Well, maybe. Very scary (to me) in my maillog file, starting up and shutting down doevcot... Of course, it appears that the dovecot executable can't find config files. So why would my maillog say that the old version is running ? Perhaps it's the new executable running with some leftover config from the old version ? Obviously I have not a clue as to the following, and these are my questions: a) what determines from which directories are each and every dovecot executable runs (i.e., normal plus any oddball) ? b) under what userid is each one run ? c) what determines from which directories are each and every dovecot config file is read ? d) when I install a new version of dovecot, how do I control which versions of config and executables are used at runtime ? Is there a place in the documentation where all this is contained in one place in a nice organized table ? My mitigating workaround: ===================== I can of course start over, creating a brand new mail server VM, WITHOUT installing dovecot 2.0.6, and then JUST download the 2.3.0 and build and install it. At least then I will only have 1 version of dovecot present on the virtual machine to deal with. But the obvious question then remains: After my NEXT dovecot upgrade, I'm back in the quagmire, needing to know a) b) and c) above. I am confident that dovecot is not lacking in this department, I just can't find what I'm looking for in the documentation. Thanks in advance, John

Hi we are using dovecot on secure port when i try to command openssl s_client -connect mail.mydomain:pop3s it works perfect. it says ***OK Dovecot ready*** Also i check from https://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html web page i can see all correct ceritificate paths but i try to this command openssl s_client -connect mail.mydomain:pop3s -starttls imap it says CONNECTED and hang. second command is correct? also my thunderbird client doesnt work with 143 port and STARTTLS. is this general issue or have we config error? thanks in advance Selçuk YAZAR

Hi all, We have recently had some power failures have led to corrupt mdbox instances. Dovecot’s fsck appears to get caught in a loop when the recipient has a large amount of mail. In the example log output below, each “rebuilding indexes” seems to be interrupted by a new IMAP connection. Later, when our folks realized the issue and blocked access to the mailbox, the index rebuild finished in about 90 seconds. Is it possible for the fsck to “lock” the mailbox or otherwise protect against this? Hello, it's the first time for me writing to the list, I'm trying to change the location into which the Dovecot's locks are done reserving a special temporary directory on an other partition, then adding to the dovecont.conf the line: mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir:VOLATILEDIR=/tmp_lock/%2.256Nu/%u so that through the VOLATILEDIR directive the locks should be written in this path. We observe though that the locks for many users are still done in the real maildir (NFS mounted filesystem) as if in some situations this instruction is not effective. Anybody knows if are there other things to change or to do or what could be the reason? (for instance to login in a specific way or doing a particular operation). Regards, Federico

Removing IMAP ID command

Hello all. Happy 2018! How can I disable the dovecot IMAP ID command, or hide the product name, so one does not eyeball what server software I am running (which happens to be v2.2.33.2)? Mailing list content filtering changes

I've now disabled all content filtering in Mailman, because of the failing DKIM/DMARC issues. Hopefully that solves them for now.. Although this will mean that we'll probably start getting HTML mails to this list, which isn't ideal. I guess an alternative could be to reject any mails with text/html MIME part, but that could prevent some people from sending any mails to this list unless they switch to a different client/webmail.. Also that feature doesn't seem to be possible at least with the Mailman version we're currently using. BTW. All/most of the Gmail and Yahoo users just got disabled by mailman due to DMARC bounces. I've (hopefully) re-enabled mail for all of them.

I did some more digging around and found this is reproducible on multiple hosts running the same version of Dovecot/Pigeonhole/Postfix. The problem resurfaces on any host to an account with enabled Vacation/OOO response. The Vacation/OOO reply filter was created in Roundcubemail, but has been fine for years. One thing to note is in Dovecot 2.3.0 I did enable UTF8, but even if I disable UTF8 the issue remains. quota issue - fs backend troubles with mount

Hi, with the last update to version 2.2.33.2 I had problems with quota management; the plugin no longer reads the configuration correctly or something undocumented has changed! Until the version 2.2.30.2 the mount parameter work well, now no longer; so with... plugin { quota = fs:HOME:mount=/home quota2 = fs:INBOX:mount=/var/spool } ...the server no longer works and I read this in the log: Debug: Module loaded: /usr/lib64/dovecot/lib10_quota_plugin.so Debug: Quota root: name=HOME=fs args=mount=/home Debug: Quota grace: root=HOME bytes=0 (10%) Debug: Quota root: name=INBOX backend=fs args=mount=/var/spool Debug: Quota grace: root=INBOX bytes=0 (10%) Error: User initialization failed: Failed to initialize quota: Quota root HOME: fs quota init failed: Unknown parameter for backend fs: =/home I saw that the method for acquiring the parameters was revised in the src/plugins/quota/quota-fs.c but I still could not understand why it fails! TLS problem after upgrading from v2.2 to v2.3

Then i put back email for email from the cur-folders from backup to the new-folders in the rebuild mailboxes. From the filename i cut of the part with hostname and size and flags. The archive now is in a separate namespace, because there are really a lot of emails in. Now it works great again (exept one error, i posted before) Maybe you can find something to improve dovecot in selfhealing broken index. Thanks for the great work on this server! jakob

The imap4flags bug is actually not first seen in the 0.5.0 release (it is ancient), but I included the fix for it anyway. Changelog v0.5.0.1: - imap4flags extension: Fix binary corruption occurring when setflag/addflag/removeflag flag-list is a variable. - sieve-extprograms plugin: Fix segfault occurring when used in IMAPSieve context. Dovecot 2.3 - using doveadm as non-root?

Hi dovecot developers and users, I recently upgraded my server running Arch Linux to dovecot 2.3.0, and I noticed some of my cron jobs started issuing me error messages. These cron jobs run as a non-root user associated with my mail account, and they use doveadm to tidy things up (ex. purging the trash, moving old mail in certain folders into the trash). The error message is: > Error: net_connect_unix(/var/run/dovecot/stats-writer) failed: > Permission denied I assume this is doveadm trying to participate in the new 2.3 stats process, and after reading the code a bit, I can't see way to tell doveadm to not connect to the stats writer. The socket is owned by root with 600 permissions. What would be the right way to remedy this? AFAICT, I could potentially run doveadm as root (which I would prefer to avoid), or I could change the permissions on the stats writer socket, but I would hate to introduce any sort of security vulnerability by doing so. I currently have a scrappy Perl script that just runs doveadm and filters out the error message (it doesn't seem to affect the behavior of doveadm other than the message), but that feels dirty and I would prefer a cleaner solution. Dovecot auth SASL for exim and plain auth issue without initial response

Hi, I'm not entirely sure whether this issue is with exim or with dovecot. First some background: I'm using exim with dovecot-auth which in turn is using LDAP for authentication. When using AUTH PLAIN with the optional initial response argument, everything is fine. However when using AUTH PLAIN without the optional response argument, instead of getting an empty challenge ("334 ") as per RFC i am getting a "535 Incorrect authentication data". Dovecot panic for one user after upgrading

The EC2 instance that I run Dovecot on (personal mail server) was forcibly "retired" yesterday, and as a result I ended up rebuilding from backups. I’ve recently configured my mail server and was using a simple sieve rule in order to store all my ‘user+pattern(a)example.xn--com-to0a ingoing email to be stored in the INBOX/pattern folder. This setup worked very well. Hello, After upgrading to dovecot 2.3.0, my sieve filtering is broken. Dbox and NVMe drives

Hi all, We're looking at replacing our existing NFS setup and using local storage on multiple nodes - using Director to send clients to the correct node. We have about 10,000 mailboxes using about 6TB at the moment, a mix of IMAP and POP, probably 65% IMAP. I'm thinking of moving from Maildir to Dbox; using 2TB NVMe drives in RAID1 as primary storage and 4x 6TB SATA disks in RAID10 for altstorage and probably smaller SATA SSDs in RAID1 for the indexes. I guess my question is, have other people had bad experiences with flash based storage on medium sized mail servers and does splitting the storage like these seem sensible for Dbox in terms of maximizing performance? Sieve can't move messages in a public namespace

Hello, my dovecot version is 2.1.17 I've configured some public namespaces (config attached). When a mail arrives at a certain mail address, that mail is handled by dovecot lmtp server and a sieve script is executed that shuold move the message in one of the namespaces. This is the script: require "fileinto"; if header :contains "From" "example(a)example.com" { fileinto :create "Cond-UFF_FORNITORI/CONTABILITA/Inviata"; } else { fileinto :create "Cond-UFF_FORNITORI/CONTABILITA/Ricevuta"; } The problem is that the sieve script fails with the error: sieve: info: started log at Jun 27 12:42:28. error: msgid=<c9154db4-ff68-52a3-2639-11f09f225f68(a)fcr.re.it>: failed to store into mailbox 'Cond-UFF_FORNITORI/CONTABILITA/Ricevuta': Mailbox doesn't exist: Cond-UFF_FORNITORI/CONTABILITA/Ricevuta. I double checked config, dovecot documentation, sieve documentation, ACL, filesystem paths, filesystem permissions, etc. etc. I'm pretty sure it's all right. So why isn't sieve working? Hi, With latest 2.3 -git (and 2.3.0 release), I'm running into this error with Thunderbird: "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.5.4 Unsupported mail BODY type. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again." This is fatal and means Thunderbird cannot use the submission service - fortunately I can revert back to a native Postfix service which works. You can also pipe it to a script that will select a destination to forward to alias "info(a)domain.tld" to "|/my/selector|script". This will work both in Postfix, sendmail, and probably most other MTAs. If you actually want randomization (rather than sequential round-robin), you can simplify because you won't need to record the last delivery.
