[Dovecot] Best way to migrate from qmail-ldap's autoreply?

Hi, qmail-ldap uses four LDAP attributes for handling autoreplies in qmail-local: - deliverymode (to see whether the autoreply should be send) - mailreplytext, which is a base64 encoded multiline string* - mailreplystart and mailreplystop, unix dates I'm wondering how this could be handled with Dovecot (2.0) in the most easier way. All I could find out so far: - patching the code - writing a plugin (it it possible to get these LDAP attributes in the LMTPd with a single userdb-lookup and get it from the plugin during a new mail event? Any examples?) - conditionally provide these values to a sieve script and process them accordingly (the base64 string and maybe the dates seem to be hard for the first glimpse) the mad stuff: - using an LD_PRELOAD library, which emulates per user sieve scripts according to LDAP lookups (gives a lot more flexibility) - an LMTP proxy/server, which does all this and forwards the traffic to the Dovecot LMTPd/deliver process * a sample mailreplytext looks like this: '''%HEADER% Content-type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" távol vagyok''' (of course this is in UTF-8).

[Dovecot] Maybe wrong quota recalculation behaviour on overquota delivery try

Hi all, we are experencing some, may be strange, slowness in our dovecot/postfix mail system. We have three dovecot 2.0.1 server with LMTP, POP3 and IMAP enabled. Three shared OCFS2 filesystem are used for mail storage. We have too a load balancer based on dovecot director in front of these three server. Our SMTP cluster receives mail and send by LMTP to load balancer. Everything work flowless, but sometime, under heavy load, three server slow down a lot. Our mail gateway logs a lot of: status=deferred (host 10.194.1.20[10.194.1.20] said: 451 4.4.0 Remote server not answering (DATA output timeout) IP 10.194.1.20 is dovecot director. Looking at mbox servers log nothing seem to happen, but stracing lmtp process we can see stat system calls to all Maildir files, as if dovecot was recalculating quota and regenerating maildirsize file. It happens always when LMTP tries to deliver a mail to an overquota account. Is this possible and right? How can we look deeper in system to have more information? I noticed 2 minor things with the director. 1) if I start 2 directors, but in 1 of them I dont add the other as a director_servers, they both start spamming the logfiles really really fast. It seems there is no backoff mechanism in the protocol between directors. 2) user mail server ip expire time cor 194.109.26.171 2010-09-02 14:32:13 <unknown> 194.109.26.172 2010-09-02 14:33:13 Why does it say 'unknown'? [Dovecot] Suggested location for single-dbox

I've updated http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailLocation regarding a typical mail_location entry for dbox. Previously it said: mail_location = dbox:~/dbox but of course "dbox" is now the old name for "sdbox", so the example should be updated to say "sdbox" and there might/ought also to be an example for "mdbox". In http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/dbox the example mail_location for mdbox is given as "mdbox:~/mdbox", so I have followed that for "MailLocation". So I have changed it to say # single-dbox mail_location = sdbox:~/dbox or: # multi-dbox mail_location = mdbox:~/mdbox I didn't know whether to change the directory for sdbox to "~/sdbox" or to leave it as it is. For the time being I have left it at "~/dbox" --- following the example given should allow new installations of Dovecot 2 to be able to read any existing single-dbox data which used the historically-suggested "~/dbox" location, whilst at the same time avoiding using the old mailbox format name of "dbox". Hi to all, we are using quota to collect statistics about usage of mailboxes (thanks to the one who implemented :noenforcing) and we are using “maildir” backend, but we are thinking to migrate to *dbox (as soon as “per-user \Seen flag” would be implemented) and we should need a faster way to collect statistics, so I’ve tried to use Postgresql as a backend. I’ve follwed literally instructions from wiki2 (and part from wiki), but quota is not automatically updated as soon as a messages is delivered to user or deleted from mailbox, we need to perform a “doveadm quota recalc -A” to have it updated. Hello, I want to create a plugin to dovecot 2.0.1, to call a on the deliver action. My plugin work even if I include other libs like mysql or wathever I tried to use the "sql-api.h" (lib-sql), but at runtime, I have : "undefined symbol: sql_init", "Fatal: Couldn't load required plugins" Is it possible to use lib-sql api or mysql libs in a plugin ? I've tried with lda or lmtp plugin with the same result... Any idea ? Charly.

Hello, I've been using the dovecot 1.2.x branch server software for a while now. With the advent of the 2.0.x branch going 'stable' I decided to attempt a migration and make use of some of the features that I've not needed before. One of these is the shared folder/namespace feature. No luck. I've hit a wall and can not determine the problem. At the moment it looks like a bug to me, but it may well be that I'm missing some related configuration, or file permission. I can not get the %% variable expansion in a namespace to work. What I end up with, on an IMAP connection is a directory named, for instance, '%h'. The same goes for any of the %% variables used at this point. My current set-up is 'not' the same as the current setup and I'm using virtual users that are not 'live' on the current system. I would really appreciate it if someone could cast an eye over my config and let me know if I've missed something obvious. Thanks. [Dovecot] Dovecot - some more optimisations

I did some more optimisation. Most performance hit in Dovecot do "for loop" in string operations. In one case (in message-parser.c) "for loop" has another "for" inside with the same variable used as iterator. This case is very hard to optimise by compiler. I do changes only in top functions listed in oprofile. Maybe I do more in future. Code was analysed and tested but it's hard to generate all cases. It's working well in production server (I'm monitoring). In istream-crlf.c I've changed one thing. When destination buffer is full after '\r' addition (to dest), It didn't skip '\n' in source buffer. I think this was buggy in earlier code, and '\n' was skipped (this piece of code is used very rare). Please check this out. This can help in huge e-mail systems :P And another problem. Why You use safe_memset instead of memset? Now this function have the largest impact in Dovecot performance. Another on list is t_push. Regards, Len7hir

When authenticating, there's where my problem is, I can't have ALL user e-mails under "ou=people", maybe just 1, so I need to search under "ou=services", there I have all user email addresses, and by using "edupersonPrincipalName", I want to point to the right location under "ou=people", where I have the user password. edupersonPrincipalName is the attribute present under "ou=services" and "ou=people" that links the entries. I tried to do it by changing passdb filter file, like this: pass_filter = (&(objectclass=eduPerson)(mail=%u)) pass_attrs = userPassword=userdb_password,eduPersonPrincipalName=userdb_user It works, but changes the username to the value of "edupersonprincipalname", and this changes the mailbox name. Dovecot accesses the wrong mailbox then (something like 29859085900(a)example.org) * My question is: is it possible to change the passdb filter, so it searches for somemail(a)sub1.example.org (under ou=services), then it gets the value of "edupersonprincipalname" (the unique identifier, present under "services" and "people"), and with that value, it looks under "people" the person with that identifier and validates the password. Hi All, my name is Giovanni and I am new to dovecot. I have installed version 2.0 the past week and I find it very powerful. I have started to play with the virtual mailbox plugin. I was unable to do a virtual mailbox filtering out the contents of other mailbox, for instance I have a virtual/spam mailbox which filter out all the spam thanks to spamassassin. This mailbox is virtual, its description is INBOX -Trash -Trash/* -Junk subject SPAM I'd like to do a simple virtual/ham mbox using this dovecot-virtual INBOX -virtual/spam to: jj(a)gioorgi.com but it seems not working. it does not filter the spam. Hi All, I am trying to configure shared mail folders and have made some progress, however I am just stuck lack of experience I think. I have ubuntu 10.04 postfix and dovecot (working well) using dovecot deliver as LDA thunderbird reports that folders are shared flat file database has the shares My problem is I am missing something on the userdb I wish to use auth passwd as it is a small system of 20 system users I have the following from dovecot -n auth default: passdb: driver: pam userdb: driver: passwd I get the following IMAP(peter): userdb lookup: connect(/var/run/dovecot/auth-master) failed: No such file or directory dovecot: IMAP(peter): Namespace 'shared/': Could not lookup home for user ian I am lost and would be grateful for any help all the best Ian

Dear All, I am trying to use Public Folder feature of dovecot but having some confusion with the configuration part as well as understanding the same. Here is output of doveconf -n which i think required to help me - mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir namespace { inbox = yes location = prefix = separator = . type = private } namespace { list = children location = maildir:/var/mail/public prefix = Public. separator = . subscriptions = no type = public } plugin { acl = vfile:/usr/local/dovecot/dovecot-acl/acl } after making this configuration i also created subfolder inside /var/mail/public which looks like following:- mail1:~# less /var/mail/public/ dovecot-acl-list .Public/ mail1:~# less /var/mail/public/.Public/Maildir/ cur/ new/ tmp/ I have changed default permission to [ chown -R vmail:vmail /var/mail ] on base public folder. Now I am able to see the public folder from webmail as well as from thunderbird but no display for .Public folder. I am expecting that .Public folder will be visible to all but no one will be allowed to delete and make any change in that folder, I am also using global ACL in my configuration. Please let me know what i am doing wrong because not getting any error in log, Correct me if i am understanding wrong. Thanks

Seeing a whole bunch of the CLIENTBUGs in the logs since IMP uses imapproxy and relies on the proxy to unselect the mailbox when a LOGOUT is caught. Thus, when we rebuild the connection on the next page connection, we assume that there is no active mailbox (we actually use LIST-STATUS to do folder polling, but we still use STATUS when we only need data on a single mailbox). imapproxy *should* really be using UNSELECT, but that looks like a different (imapproxy) bug. michael

[Dovecot] 2.0 migration weirdnesses: logs and hang

Hello, I'm testing out an upgrade to dovecot 2.0 from 1.2.11, and I've stumbled across two weirdnesses that I need help with. First, I'm only getting one log message: master: Info: Dovecot v2.0.0 starting up After that, while I can connect, log in, read mail, etc., no further log messages are created. I have log_path set to /dev/stderr, and no syslog_facility setting, so... what could be going wrong? Second, when I create a new mailbox and copy messages across namespaces, dovecot hangs. The mailbox is created and the messages are copied successfully, but dovecot simply stops responding. I can't even logout! There are 2 user/passwd databases in my setup - ldap and mysql. when i login into one user with telnet 127.0.0.1 143 and share inbox to some users - records in dict-file apears? but if i delete some acls - records indict-file stays same. 2. [Dovecot] doveadm search/expunge with public folders

Hi all, can I expunge or search emails in public folders? The command 'doveadm expunge -u rzimmermann mailbox Public/folder all' does not delete emails in the folder 'Public/folder'. The command 'doveadm expunge -u rzimmermann mailbox Spam all' does delete emails in the folder 'Spam'. The user rzimmermann has all rights in 'Public/folder'. Greets Ralf Zimmermann -- .''`. Hi, I'd like to use Global ACLs to limit user's access to individual folders (e.g. read only). The dovecot-acl file limiting my user "test": user=test lr works fine when I put it into the user's mailbox /home/vmail/test/Maildir/.Records but gets ignored in /etc/dovecot/acls/Records Bellow is my dovecot -n output: # 2.0.0: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf # OS: Linux 2.6.18-194.11.1.el5 i686 CentOS release 5.5 (Final) auth_master_user_separator = * auth_mechanisms = plain ntlm disable_plaintext_auth = no mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir mail_plugins = acl passdb { args = /etc/dovecot/users driver = passwd-file } plugin { acl = vfile:/etc/dovecot/acls } protocols = imap userdb { args = uid=vmail gid=vmail home=/home/vmail/%u allow_all_users=yes driver = static } protocol imap { mail_plugins = $mail_plugins imap_acl } Any help will be appreciated.
