I did Dovecot profiling on huge e-mail system, and p_strdup was very high on list. I do minor change: p_strdup: /* for (len = 0; (str)[len] != '\0'; ) len++; len++; */ len = strlen(str) + 1; p_strndup: /* len = 0; while (len < max_chars && ((const char *) str)[len] != '\0') len++; */ len = strnlen(str, max_chars); And after changes strdup drop down on the profile list. [Dovecot] maildirsize having incorrect content, how to recreate/correct?

Hi List, I have (otherwise successfull) migrated a server from cyrus to dovecot (Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 to 10.6.4 [dovecotd version to be 1.1.20apple0.5]). There are ca. 300+ users of which a very small handfull (ca. 1 %) are having reported a usage size that is very different to what 'du' reports. How can I rebuild the maildirsize and why might it be wrong in the first place(?) Will the maildirsize files be regenerated if deleted and when will this then happen ( at the next time of the user logging in or…) >From what I can read here: http://www.inter7.com/courierimap/README.maildirquota.html The maildirsize file contains (in linenumber > 1) "bytecount SPACE filecount" I also have one (perhaps more) user with one line having a negative value in maildirsize (-138204393 -2294) how can that happen / be corrected? When I run it myself with "--help", it just does it all again and says "SSL parameters regeneration completed". Hi, since I use TLS I'm getting the following waning when I send mail to somebody in the internet:| "warning: network_biopair_interop: error reading 5 bytes from the network: Connection reset by peer|" ... Mail seems to be delivered & sent as usual. I found a post about it: http://de.postfix.org/pipermail/postfix-users/2009-March/000891.html but it didn't help to involve: "smtpd_tls_ask_ccert=no" Did anybody face that issue before? I'm using self signed certs. Regards

Is there a feature or plugin to restrict access to IMAP/POP service by the domain name in reverse lookup? It would be even better if this restriction can exclude certain users (e.g. some users can access IMAP from certain networks but other users cannot). -- sHiFt HaPpEnS!

[Dovecot] Dovecot 2.0.rc4 not generating ssl-parameters.dat on first start

Dear Dovecot lovers! When starting Dovecot 1.x the first time, it runs "ssl-build-params" to generate a file named "ssl-parameters.dat". This takes a couple of minutes. During this time users have no access to their mail, but this can be planned in advance and users can be notified. This is explained in http://wiki.dovecot.org/SSL/DovecotConfiguration With Dovecot 2.0.rc4, the new command "ssl-params" seems to do this job, but unfortunately it isn't run on first start of Dovecot but the start is delayed until a user connects to port 993 (or does STARTTLS in 143). According to http://wiki2.dovecot.org/SSL/DovecotConfiguration it should behave the same way as Dovecot 1 did. So, with Dovecot 2.0.rc4 it hits the first user who wants to establish a secure connection. It's hard to explain this to users. ;-) Of course, I could simply run "telnet <imaphost> 993" manually after installation. I also tried running "ssl-params" manually before starting Dovecot but it stays in foreground forever and doesn't seem to finish (what is it waiting for?) So it would be really great if Dovecot 2 could do this on its own like Dovecot 1 did. Besides that, Dovecot 2.0 runs like a charm ... Andreas

Hello, the migration guide from Courier-IMAP to Dovecot says that I should change the folders namespace to "INBOX." if I want a seamless migration. Isn't it that e-mail clients determine that namespace automatically? At least I never needed to enter one in Thunderbird and then it was there. [Dovecot] Dovecot 2.0.rc4 core dumped with Alpine 2.00

Hi Timo and all others! The current Dovecot 2.0.rc4 did really well with Mutt 1.5.20 and Thunderbird 3.1.2, but a user with Alpine 2.00 crashed it immediately. I'm running Fedora 13 (Linux) and compiled Dovecot 2.0.rc4 manually like I did before with Dovecot 1.2.13. When switching from 1.2 to 2.0 I removed all those ".imap" folders with internal cache data (didn't know for sure if it's compatible between both version). All folders are in mbox format. When Alpine is started, the first crash happens. Alpine notifies the user that there was a problem connecting the IMAP server. No mail is display. And then the second crash happens. Looks like Alpine starts a second try to connect to the IMAP server before displaying the (empty) screen with (no) folders. [Dovecot] Dovecot and Active Directory separate domain data stores.

Hi, I've got Dovecot setup to auth my AD users fine via Winbind and I've also tried it using LDAP and can get this working also. The problem lies in the way we store our email for our virtual users in this setup. We run a flat domain for AD (lets call it newzealand.local), and then under each users account that gets email, in the E-mail field in AD, they have an email address like user1@auckland, user2@wellington, user3@chch and so on. With Postfix, I've set it up so that each email domain ends up being stored in a different path - /mail/auckland/user1, /mail/wellington/user2, /mail/chch/user3. This was done using a query filter that returned a person's email address from AD, chopped it into separate user/domain parts around the '@' symbol and using these to determine where the mail should be stored. This seems to work well for our purposes. But now I need to get Dovecot to be able to do the same thing in order to present the email to the user. I'm fairly certain this isn't going to work with Winbind, so I implemented the LDAP passdb and got that working, but I can't seem to quite work out how to get it to work with the domain part from the email address. Could someone give me a pointer in the right direction if this is possible. I'm thinking it has to do with the user_attrs variable, but can't quite workout how I would split this. Or is there a better way to do this? Thanks, Andrew

[Dovecot] Setting up webmail in DMZ

I have a Smoothwall server on my network and am running three network interfaces off it. 1) local LAN 192.168.0.0 with PCs and an internal dovecot server on 192.168.0.154. 2) internet interface 3) DMZ 192.168.2.0 which has a linux web server 192.168.2.1 on which I want to install a webmail so I can access my email remotely. Originally 192.168.2.1 couldn't see the 192.168.0.0 network but with some help from the Smoothwall forums I have fixed that. The problem now is that 192.168.2.1 can't connect to the dovecot server on 192.168.0.154. When I "telnet 192.168.0.154 993" or "telnet 192.168.0.154 143" I get a "Connection refused" error. But these commands work fine from PCs on the 192.168.0.0 network. I'm pretty sure there's no firewall on the dovecot server and /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny are empty. Is there a default setting that I need to change in Dovecot that only allows connections from machines on the same subnet?

Thanks Jerrale, I'm currently running the following dovecot packages: dovecot-plugins-sieve-1.2.6-1.1mdv2010.0 dovecot-1.2.6-1.1mdv2010.0 I don't use mysql with dovecot. I do use sieve. Hi All, Loving Dovecot after several years with Cyrus. This might be more a general question, but this seemed the best place to ask. The idea is to just add up all the values of quotes I've sent in a month. I want to search my Sent mail folder for all messages with a certain subject, then "grep" out a certain line that has a dollar ($) figure, and add up those figures. Hi, I'm looking for a way to deliver mail to both 'folder' and '.folder'. I put LAYOUT=fs to mail_location, sieve recognize both 'folder' and '.folder', but I don't want dovecot-imap to show 'folder' to imap client. The purpose is to send some emails to 'folder' and don't let user to see the folder and email in it. I'm using dovecot-1.2.13 and dovecot-1.2-sieve-0.1.17. Can someone help me with the configuration. [Dovecot] Strange behaviour when add new mailbox to IMAP (v 1.2.13)

Hi, I think I need to ask you for advice. Personally I face that for the first time and hardly imagine this could be possible at all, but... My setup is simple: I have one mail server where all of my mail accounts are stored, and another one to store backup of all mailings. The scheme is simple, SMTP on first server forwards a copy of each message to address catchall(a)secondserver.my-domain. So whenever I need to restore any message I'll simple search for it on second server. Both servers are have Dovecot 1.2.13 as IMAP servers. First server's Dovecot is sql-backed one, the second server's (in fact it serving just one box) is using passwd-style text file auth. Other than this, setup is pretty similiar, and everything is well, but here is the mystery: I use Thunderbird (yesterday it was 3.1.1 and now it is 3.1.2) as my IMAP client. When I connect to my IMAP account on second server, and create mailbox, I see that there appears greyed folder named #virtual^Sent , and my new mailbox is in it. When I do the same thing on first server, everything works just as I expect it (new mailbox created right under root of my IMAP account). If I create on second server new mailbox right under any existing (say, under Inbox) everything is fine also. To check the problem I simplified my Dovecot config to the bare minimum, and it also won't work (#virtual^Sent still there). When I see on server disk, I see there .#virtual^Sent.NewTestMailbox dir (NewTestMailbox is the test mailbox I created), but there is no .#virtual^Sent dir. I rebuilt Dovecot, and also tried to build 1.2.12, none worked. May there be any solution for that? Yours, Alexander Chekalin

Hello, I use Solaris Live Upgrade to install solaris patches in an alternate boot environment. Unfortunately the dovecot sockets /opt/local/var/run/dovecot/dict-server and /opt/local/var/run/dovecot/login/default are created as normal files in the ABE. After switching to the ABE dovecot will not start because of the existence of these two files. After removing these files dovecot starts normally. I think that dovecot should create the sockets even if there exist files with the same names. Hello, I will use expire like described within wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Expire with sqlite for a folder AutoCleanSpam.
