Not sure what happened here, but today, all of a sudden, pop3 emails are not being deleted. I was using the 1.1.3 version then upgraded to 1.1.4 now it no longer deletes emails. [Dovecot] LSUB strangeness continued

Hi, I wrote earlier to mention that I am having touble with LSUB command reporting "permission denied' on some accounts and not others that are identical as far as I can see. I am trying various combinations of stuff, so i set up a new IMAP account in Thunderbird that went to one of the accounts I am having trouble with. I was not surprised to get "Server says permission denied". I was surprised that after a minute or so, it went ahead downloaded the mail messages? What the heck? Does Thunderbird try another command? -Don

Hi, I'am using Ubuntu Server, and I can't get Dovecot working. Please give me a clue if you can. Ok, my gide to configuration was https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Dovecot I tryed to "telnet mydomain.com 110", but the authentication fails, give this error: -ERR Authentication failed. I got it with multiple imaptest instances even with current dovecot-1.1 hg tree. I checked the emails with that UIDs and they are actually truncated. Some things I noted on these mails: - they are all with MIME multipart attachments. - the last multipart attachment is truncated - the truncated last line is not complete - the following line is the beginning of a new mail (From line) without any empty line after the truncated attachment. - in "got too little data: #2 vs #3" 0 <= #2 < #3 (zero included) - Content-Length: #4 is sometimes bigger than both #2 and #3, sometimes smaller. So is there a way to force it to check virtual users just on the /etc/virtual/%d/passwd? I mean, if the domain is the real one, abusar.org, or it doesn't have a domain, it will check in the system passwords, but if it's some other domain except abusar.org, it should skip checking system passwords and check directly in the /etc/virtual/%d/passwd. Hi, I'am new to Dovecot and Postfix... I have made a Postfix installation as "Internet with Smarthost". I'am using a domain in Godaddy, I have point "A (Host) Record" to my IP and the "MX Record" is also pointing to my IP. I have tested sending e-mail from my gmail.com account to my server, the server receive e-mails from gmail.comto my /home/andre/mbox successfully, the server is also sending mails by SMTP successfully. Now I need to configure POP3, I have been searching but I don't know what to do... I only need to receive e-mails in my windows machines in Outlook Express. I have test telnet in my localhost with "telnet mydomain.com 110" It appears: Trying 127.0.0.1 Connected to localhost +OK Dovecot ready Then I try to auth by telnet with: user andre(a)mydomain.com +OK pass mypass -ERR Authentication failed. I know that my password it's ok. When I try to "telnet mydomain.com 110" on other computer with another IP on Internet I get blank screen. [Dovecot] Quota exceeded message

I just realized that "quota" word probably doesn't mean much to many non-native english speakers. Do even non-technical native speakers understand what "Quota exceeded" really means? It's sent by quota plugin, currently in two different situations: 1) To the user doing the operation via IMAP COPY/APPEND. 2) More importantly: If deliver rejects the mail, it's sent to the sender. Here are some ideas for improvements: "Mail storage disk quota exceeded" "User's mail storage disk quota exceeded" "Quota exceeded - not enough disk storage capasity for the user" Any better ideas? I think it should mention "quota" word in any case so that people who understand it would know immediately what the error message is about. The current code doesn't allow cleanly using separate messages for 1) and 2), so I'd prefer to use the same one. But if you've a great suggestion for them separately I could do it.

Hi, I have a FreeBSD 7.0 server with the following version of software's installed: postfix-2.5.4,1 postfixadmin-2.2.1.1 roundcube-0.2.a,1 php5 mysql-server-5.0.67 dovecot-1.1.3_1 Note that pre-reqs for all of the above also has been installed. Dovecot is not able to authenticate by using the query in its dovecot-sql.conf file. I have tried a lot of tricks by changing the mechanism MD5 , PLAIN LOGIN etc, but no avail. Please , could someone assist me in solving this issue, not that I can send and receive emails but pop and IMAP seems not to work , so is the webmail functionality . [Dovecot] cyrus2courrier mass migration

Hello, So we've chosen to use dovecot as our imap mail server and replace our old cyrus server ! BUT : I would like to do a conversion of my imap accounts (and keep all theirs characteristics) from cyrus-imapd-2.2.12 in cyrus format to dovecot 1.1.3 in courrier format. I've tried those 3 tools : cyrus2courrier.1.5.ts cyrus2courier-1.3z4 imapsync (works well but very slow and should not be a true solution) But nothing is working to keep the seen/unseen flag (expect imapsync) ! I know my cyrus version is too "recent" but do you have any idea how could I do this migration ? A second problem is that I have 600 Go of imap account to migrate, if you've any clue on how to do a migration without loosing a lot of availability, I would be happy to read you ! Tanks in advance.

[Dovecot] Bug? Expunging Symlinked Maildir w/ Lazy_expunge Enabled

Hi all, Using Dovecot 1.0.3 on RedHat Enterprise 5 (kernel 2.6.18-8.1.6.el5PAE), and NFS storage, we symlinked a Maildir folder: /mailstore/user/Maildir/.Junk -> /junkstore/user/Junkmaildir Everything works fine, until we try to expunge, which produces: A04 NO BUG: Unknown internal error This only happens if "lazy_expunge" is enabled: mail_plugins = quota imap_quota acl lazy_expunge lazy_expunge = .EXPUNGED/ .EXPUNGED/ .EXPUNGED/ Lazy_expunge works great on non-symlinked folders. We tried version 1.1 alpha2, which actually crashes in this scenario. The only fix we've found is to disable "lazy_expunge". Attached is our "dovecot -n" config. [Dovecot] Corrupted transaction log file / record size too small

I recently upgradeded dovecot on one of our servers from version 1.0.10 to version 1.1.3. I saw an archived mailing list message from January 2007 which may be relevant (www.mailinglistarchive.com/dovecot@dovecot.org/msg07908.html) in which the original poster's symptoms disappeared when he recompiled dovecot with gcc-3.4.0 instead of using gcc-3.1. In my case I used gcc-4.1.2, so I don't know if that's still relevant (and if so, what other version to use instead). In the output of `dovecot -n` which follows, /local/pkg/dovecot/localmods/wrapper.imap is a locally written program which registers the user's IMAP or POP connection in the lastlog file and also ensures that the user's shell is considered valid. I'd be surprised if this is relevant, but I've appended the source code in case it may be (and/or in case anyone else may find it useful!). I've been working around the problem by deleting the contents of ~user/.imap for affected users, but I'd really prefer to fix it properly. :-) Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Hi I'm trying to set up the dict/expiry plugins, but the dict server always tells me it can't find the modules although they should be there and compiled in. [Dovecot] Expunge working on folders, but not main mailbox

I've recently installed dovecot, and while the behavior on folders is correct, the inbox cannot be expunged. This is 1.1.3 running on Fedora release 8 (Werewolf) on ext3 filesystems, using both thunderbird and squirrel clients. Any assistance would be appreciated. Hi, I have a question about the following explanation; IndexFiles.txt ------------------------------------------------------ If index files are missing, Dovecot creates them automatically when the mailbox is opened. ------------------------------------------------------ Are they made based on which information? [Dovecot] Any suggestions for backing up an imap server and whould maildir or dbox be better than mbox?

Hi, we run a Red Hat EL 5.2 mailserver with dovecot as the imap server. Mails are stored in mbox format and there are about 134GB of mail. At the moment users copy their importent mail to their workstation accounts wich are backed up nightly. What are your suggestions to back up the mails not copied? Thanks for any comments. BTW: Dose changing the mailbox format from mbox to Maildir or dbox dose have any advantages? [Dovecot] Feature wish: "Virtual" POP3 folder with IMAP

Hallo, is it possible to implement a "flat folder view" for POP3 users? The problem is that POP3 only knows one folder: INBOX. Now, if a user logs in via POP3, he won't see messages that live outside the INBOX folder - this could be e.g. a *SPAM*-flagged message moved to another folder via Sieve/LDA/other mechanism. What about adding a feature `pop3_remap_folders` to virtually place *all* messages spread across different folders inside INBOX, only for the POP3 session, and without impact on the actual folder structure as seen thru IMAP? I see some issues though: - How would SENT and TRASH be handled? These special folders shouldn't be part of the game. - What happens if the POP3 client deletes a message, which is the default behavior of Outlook and friends? Proposed logic: really delete message if not logged in via IMAP since ($filemtime_of_message - $user_configurable_amount_of_seconds), else gracefully ignore client's delete request. This *could* become a problem if quotas are enabled, but then again it should be the admin's decision to offer this feature to his users. - Message IDs: Would the above Delete-only-if workaround confuse some mail clients and make them download the same messages over and over? - Perhaps another way: create a separate POP3 directory inside the mailbox, only used by dovecot-pop3. Inside reside symlinks to the actual messages spread across different IMAP folders, which can safely be deleted by a POP3 client and also following the real-delete logic described above. The benefit of such a virtual folder remapping would be great for systems also using webmail and/or Sieve. Regards, James -- jbdovecot(a)fcgh.net
