I tried to disable courier-pop3 today in favour of dovecot pop3. [Dovecot] dovecot-sieve vacation changes

I'd like to put forward the following patch for dovecot-sieve. Essentially this just merges in some changes made in CMU sieve 2.3.8 and as such brings the behaviour more in line with RFC 3834 "Recommendations for Automatic Responses to Electronic Mail": - fixes erroneous sender "-request" substring match - checks for existence of a selection of list-* headers - expands "named-as-recipient" header checks to "Resent-To", "Resent-CC" and "Resent-BCC" fields. Note that the appended patch also includes a fix for some missing parentheses in the "resent-to" test which resulted in some extra work being done but was otherwise harmless. The fix has been sent to <cyrus-bugs+(a)andrew.cmu.edu> - prefixes subject in response with "Auto: " rather than (non-expanding) "Re: " I also, mostly for kicks, attach two sieve-like scripts that attempt to encapsulate the when-not-to-respond logic as implemented (if the patch were to be applied) and as advised by RFC 3834 respectively. I wrote these as an exercise to help me gain a better understanding of sieve and the CMU implementation. I'm not sure they are otherwise useful.

[Dovecot] NFS rquota support

For v1.1, probably applies to v1.0 code pretty easily too: http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot/rev/078d9dde99c8 The other rquota patches had authunix_create_default() call. Is this needed/useful? The client is now always created+destroyed for each quota lookup. I'd think it would be faster if it was created only once, but does it then break something? If the above isn't done, clnt_create() could be replaced with clntudp_create() and have the struct sockaddr_in cached. Patches welcome. :)

[Dovecot] Shared folder hierarchies, multiple groups

Hi, I'm trying to set up two shared folder hierarchies on my Dovecot installation for two groups of employees, all of whom should only have access to their own hierarchy. Any employee should be able to create sub-folders and generally have full access to the hierarchy. My initial setup was to create two public namespaces, Shared-One and Shared-Two. Each is a Maildir under /var/mail. The actual shared folders seem to be working fine in terms of adding and accessing folders and messages, and there are no problems at all for the 'admin' user, who belongs to both the shared1 and shared2 Unix groups. The problem is for other users, where trying to (IMAP-) LIST folders fails. (sanitized) IMAP session log: ('user2' is in group shared2) * OK Dovecot ready. A LOGIN user2 pass A OK Logged in. B LIST "" "%" * LIST (\Noselect \HasChildren) "/" "Shared-One" B NO Internal error occurred. Refer to server log for more information. (Is there a way to set global defaults on a global basis? [not per-folder]) I also think there would be a problem with the hierarchies being similar. (e.g. both have a 'Projects' sub-folder, but there's a pretty clear WARNING on the wiki about mailbox name conflicts.) I can't use symlinked Maildirs, because new subfolders get created under ~user/Maildir/. (Want them under /var/mail/Shared-X/) I can't use hidden namespaces, because employees use Outlook (uggh), and I couldn't figure out how to "find" the namespace when it was hidden. (That seemed like the closest thing to a solution - it solved the LIST problem.) Ideally, Shared-Two wouldn't even be visible to members of Shared-One, and vice versa. But, that's at least an acceptable "problem" I could live with. Any suggestions? Thanks, Ben

Hi. I'm using SMTP auth with Exim authenticating against Dovecot's auth socket. Seeing a few core dumps on my two proxy servers with dovecot-auth since upgrading to 1.0.2. [Dovecot] Authentication problem - or is it?

My old server ran v.0.99, and this is the first time I've tried to get v.1 running. When I try to test it with telnet I see telnet localhost 143 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to david.lydgate.lan (127.0.0.1). Escape character is '^]'. * OK Dovecot ready. x login anne xxxxxx x OK Logged in. Connection closed by foreign host. I assumed it was an authentication problem (I want to use /etc/passwd as the authentication file) but it does say that I managed to log in. If so, what could be causing it to close immediately? Anne

I'm not aware of any major problems and I think I'm pretty much done with new features (except for dbox). The largest changes since alpha1: * Removed THREAD indexing. It's a bit buggy and I think there's a better chance of releasing a bugfree v1.1 soon if it's not included. I'll fix it after v1.1. * Removed THREAD=X-REFERENCES2 also because it wasn't as easy to implement with the old threading code. I might put this back though if there's enough interest. * PAM always works in blocking=yes mode now. If you have problems with memory leaks, change auth_worker_max_request_count setting. + Filesystem quota backend supports inode limits, group quota and RPC quota for NFS. + SEARCH and SORT finally compare all characters case-insensitively. We use i;unicode-casemap algorithm. + Config files support splitting values to multiple lines with \ + Winbind NTLM and GSS-SPNEGO mechanism patches by Dmitry Butskoy.

[Dovecot] Not seeing other folders with some clients

[Dovecot] BUG (and suggested fix) in maildir code

Hi all I'm using dovecot 1.0.rc15 to serve a maildir by IMAP. I have an IMAP subdirectory called subscriptions. The messages are in maidir/.subscriptions/cur/ etc. Dovecot is renaming the directory .subscriptions/ to subscriptions/ This means that when my IMAP client requests this directory, it gets the message "no such directory", and dovecot also gives the error message: dovecot: IMAP(tcv): read() failed with subscription file /var/mail/maildir/tcv/subscriptions: Is a directory The two should be able to live happily side by side, with the subscriptions file called "subscriptions" and the maildir called ".subsciptions". The offending function is maildir_subscriptions_convert_099() in src/lib-storage/index/maildir/maildir-storage.c Can someone with developer access please change this so that rename() is not called if subscriptions is a directory. Hi, I just wanted to "beautify" my dovecot configuration file and as one of the first comments suggests whitespaces and <TAB> should be completly ignored but that doesn't seem to be the case, e.g.: postmaster_address<TAB>= some(a)address.de results in an configuration error as the postmaster_address is not set. Using just a space or replacing the <TAB> char with space chars resolves the problem. This is with dovecot version 1.0.3 on Debian and FreeBSD. Greetings, Sascha

[Dovecot] OpenBSD and too many open files

I posted some questions a few months back and received lots of great help in getting my dovecot/postfix/LDAP setup working. Initially, I ran into the pipe failed too many open files error. I am running this setup on OpenBSD/sparc64 4.1-stable and so I put dovecot in its own class and upped the maxfiles setting for that class. This was back with dovecot 1.0 and everything worked fine. I just recently upgraded to dovecot 1.0.2 from ports and now I am having the same problems again. I moved kern.maxfiles for that class from 2048 up to 3404 and yet I still run into the error. When I do, I have to restart dovecot to get things running again. Could this be causing the issue? I only have maybe a dozen other users using this server right now but I am planning on putting 500 users on it soon. I added another heavy IMAP user shortly before these problems started but I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. Likewise, I am not sure if the dovecot 1.0.2 upgrade had any effect either although it did coincide. Any ideas? Thank you. Bryan

(Sorry for the impatience. This was one of several questions in my email from yesterday. I thought I might have better luck being more direct.) Is there a way to set ACL's, using the vfile backend, on a truly global basis? or hierarchically (i.e. .Maildir.Sub inherits from .Maildir)? The wiki page says: "The default ACLs for mailboxes is to give owner all permissions and other users none. Mailboxes in public namespaces don't have owners, so by default no-one can access them." Hi, just a question: I know that dovecot supports SASL authentication and supports LDAP. Which means that dovecot performs the SASL methods itself and stores the plaintext secret on LDAP. But it is also possible to have the LDAP do the SASL work and dovecot just pass SASL messages through? Even when the LDAP server uses a proprietary SASL method not supported by dovecot? regards Hadmut

[Dovecot] Ideas for Webmail/OTP

I want to discuss some problems/enhancements for dovecot in a webmail/otp setup. For access to an IMAP server like dovecot I see different client types: a) a "normal" MUA installed in a more or less trusted environment b) remote access via "webmail" from untrusted environments For a) I see with dovecot and other IMAP servers no problems, tricky is the setup for b). If you use a webmail client in an untrusted environment the risk is high, that keyloggers and other malware steal your password. One easy solution is to use One-Time-Passwords (OTP). The otp setup for interactive logins (e.g. ssh) is easy, but until now I did not find any easy to use solution for webmail. The main problems I see - In most cases a webmail client does not hold a persistent connection to the IMAP server, but makes a login for every request. - The webmail clients are not prepared to display the otp password challenge to the user. When we say "otp" with IMAP we further have to distinguish a) the OTP SASL authentication mechanism b) OTP configured by PAM. I believe a) is implemented in new dovecot 1.1 version, but I prefer b), because - it works with many clients without special client support - all authentication setup is central in the os. All above described problems are not specially linked to dovecot, but I believe with dovecot there is an easy solution to solve them. :-) Solution 1: When PAM is configured for IMAP the user can use a one-time-password in the same way as before. The problem is, that the user must know the sequence number for the password (otp challenge), so we need a way to display it. The PAM module supplies the otp challenge in the conversation function, but the challenge is not processed by the IMAP server. My proposal: The IMAP server stores the challenge from the conversation function and includes it in the LOGIN response, when the login was not successful. So a user can try a login with a wrong dummy password and get knowlegdge about the current otp sequence. The webmail server should be extended in a way, that it displays the complete IMAP error message, when a login fails. Solution 2: Webmail clients do not use persistent connections in most cases. A OTP login needs different passwords for every displayed web page. My proposal: Use dovecot's login cache and do not ask the os for every login. :-) Solution 3: When we configure PAM we can restrict/allow it's use depending on IP address of client. Unfortunately with a webmail client the IMAP client is always the the webserver. It should be possible, that the webserver forwards the client IP address to the IMAP server. Furthermore to use dovecot's login cache as described above in a safe manner, the IP address should be compared, too. My proposal: Create a new IMAP command "XSETREMOTEIP". With this IMAP extension a client can set the real IP address of remote client. The access to this command is restricted to the webserver with a new configuration parameter "trusted clients", which holds an IP address with mask. I ask to discuss these solutions. It seems to work, I'm making the first tests now. I have patches for dovecot and squirrelmail, but they are very "quick and dirty". They show a possible solution, but not a clean implementation. Do you believe, that we can build a good webmail system this way, or do you have better solutions? [Dovecot] Subfolders

Hi, Does dovecot supports sub folders ?? I tried creating a subfolder for a folder under the main tree .... Thunderbird allows you creating but doesn't show up ... Plz suggest how it can be enabled. [Dovecot] [PATCH] Split sql drivers from lib-sql to plugins

Hi, in order to solve rhbz#170960 [1], I split the sql drivers to plugins so that they are loaded dynamically and can be split to separate packages.
