[Dovecot] CRAM-MD5 auth broken with postgresql passdb?
by Chris Laif 03 Nov '06

03 Nov '06

I'm currently experiencing a problem which has already been described by Jonathan in http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2006-August/015501.html If I use CRAM-MD5 auth with passwd-file as a backend (Thunderbird client) everything works fine (MD5-hashes have been shortened for readability): dovecot: auth(default): password(bob(a)foo.bar,10.0.0.123): Credentials: f12c884ba3cc82.. dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<bob(a)foo.bar>, method=CRAM-MD5, rip=10.0.0.123, lip=10.0.0.234 My passwd file contains a line like this: bob@foo.bar:{HMAC-MD5}f12c884ba3cc82.. If I change to postgresql-based passdb, PLAIN auth works (!) and CRAM-MD5 does not work: dovecot: auth(default): sql(bob(a)foo.bar,10.0.0.123): query: SELECT 'bob(a)foo.bar' AS user, '{HMAC-MD5}f12c884ba3cc82..' AS password dovecot: auth(default): password(bob(a)foo.bar,10.0.0.123): Credentials: dovecot: auth(default): cram-md5(bob(a)foo.bar,10.0.0.123): password mismatch Please note the ultra-simple SELECT-statement (I've tried other combinations as well - no success). sql.conf setting is "default_pass_scheme = HMAC-MD5". Dovecot version 1.0.rc10. In the postgresql-based example the "Credentials:" variable is empty. I wonder if this is a bug in dovecot. Please let me know if you need any further information to resolve this issue. Thanks, Chris (As a side not I still do not understand how CRAM-MD5 auth is able to work without a plain text password, but that's another story. If it works with an HMAC-MD5 hash in a passwd-file backend it should work with the postgresql-db backend as well.)

[Dovecot] quota question
by Jakob Curdes 03 Nov '06

.. maybe a silly one, but how does the user get notified when he is over quota? Did not find anything in the docs. Is there a general IMAP way to do this or what else ? Yours JC

[Dovecot] Check plugin loading for LDA and dovecot-sieve
by Will Prater 03 Nov '06

03 Nov '06

Hello, I found this thread: http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2006- September/015955.html and have successfully compiled and installed cmusieve plugin. How does one test to make sure its being loaded? It's not parsing my sieve files in the users homes and I'd like to first check if the plugin is being loaded, since I am getting no errors about it. Thanks

[Dovecot] Postfix + Dovecot LDA Problem
by Steven F Siirila 02 Nov '06

02 Nov '06

I am having a problem setting up a server to handle e-mail in a way in which it had always done traditionally, but with Postfix+Dovecot LDA. Here's a rundown... Solaris 9 Postfix 2.3.3 Dovecot 1.0.rc10 Postfix non-defaults (postconf -n): alias_maps = dbm:/etc/mail/aliases command_directory = /opt/postfix/sbin config_directory = /etc/opt/postfix daemon_directory = /opt/postfix/libexec debug_peer_level = 2 html_directory = no inet_interfaces = $myhostname mail_owner = postfix mailbox_command = /opt/dovecot/libexec/dovecot/deliver -f "$SENDER" mailq_path = /opt/postfix/bin/mailq manpage_directory = /opt/postfix/man masquerade_domains = tc.umn.edu masquerade_exceptions = root mydestination = $myhostname mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8, ... (omitted) myorigin = $mydomain newaliases_path = /opt/postfix/bin/newaliases queue_directory = /var/spool/postfix readme_directory = no relayhost = [omitted.tc.umn.edu] sample_directory = /etc/opt/postfix sendmail_path = /opt/postfix/sbin/sendmail setgid_group = postdrop smtpd_client_restrictions = permit_mynetworks, reject unknown_local_recipient_reject_code = 550 This works just like our old MTA, with one exception: sending e-mail to addresses within our domain (@tc.umn.edu) requires us to specify the @tc.umn.edu -- otherwise it is rejected with a message like alias(a)host.tc.umn.edu does not exist. I want such messages to be relayed to the relayhost. When I set mydestination to null, and luser_relay = $user@$domain the message goes into a black hole (I never get the message, nor do I get an NDN.) I am posting this to both the Dovecot and Postfix lists since I'm not sure where the fault lies, configuration- or software-wise. Thanks in advance for any helpful tips. -- Steven F. [Dovecot] compiling dovecot-sieve
by Fintec 02 Nov '06

02 Nov '06

Our server is an CentOS4.4 box and we use the atrpms built RPMs for installing dovecot. I am wanting to use the sieve plug-in so I've followed the dovecot wiki instructions, downloaded the files from CVS, but I'm not sure what configure options to use. When I try without any options I get: dovecot-config not found from /usr/src/dovecot-sieve, use --with-dovecot=PATH to give path to compiled Dovecot sources I tried using "./configure --with-dovecot=/usr/libexec/dovecot" but get the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. [Dovecot] making dovecot and exim write to one log
by Zbigniew Szalbot 02 Nov '06

02 Nov '06

Hello, I am looking for some advice. I am trying to force dovecot to run to the same log as exim does. In dovecot.conf I put the exim log path /var/log/exim/mainlog. I restarted dovecot and the process worked fine. However at midnight exim log file is rotated and since then dovecot stops logging to this log. In syslog.conf I put: mail.* /var/log/exim/mainlog And in newsyslog.conf I have: /var/log/exim/mainlog mailnull:mail 640 60 * @T00 Z I used to have an N flag next to Z but after reading the man I realized that its job is not to inform other processes about log creation. My qeustion is how do I set up things that dovecot and exim happily write to one log without having to restart dovecot at midnight? I am fairly new to FreeBSD which I use so I beg your patience with me. Thanks! -- Zbigniew Szalbot

Re: [Dovecot] deliver + quota failure
by Mark Ruijs 02 Nov '06

02 Nov '06

I investigated the deliver with quota's bug a little more (rc10, mysql, virtual domains, maildir). My log files reads: deliver(test(a)ruijs.cc): Info: msgid=<000f01c6fac1$bd4e8670$8801a8c0@Moskou>: save failed to INBOX deliver(test(a)ruijs.cc): Info: sieve runtime error: Keep: Generic Error deliver(test(a)ruijs.cc): Info: msgid=<000f01c6fac1$bd4e8670$8801a8c0@Moskou>: save failed to INBOX deliver(test(a)ruijs.cc): Error: open(ruijs.cc/test//.temp.in2sports2.vianetworks.nl.13210.72d247ac698d0019) failed: No such file or directory deliver(mark(a)ruijs.cc): Info: msgid=<dovecot-1162066721-407295-0(a)in2sports2.vianetworks.nl>: saved mail to Junk Dovecot tries to deliver, but notices quota exceeded. I don't think Sieve is playing a role here - I added Sieve before I encountered the problem. Two problems: 1) The .dovecot.lda-dupes can't be written (that's what the open...failed notice is about). 2) The Quota Exceed mail seem to contain mal-formed headers (that's why it the notice-mail ends in my junk-folder). Digging into deliver.c, I noticed that auth_client_put_user_env() changes the HOME environment from /var/mail (which is ok), to ruijs.cc/test/ (which is the maildir, relative to /var/mail). And then fopen fails (see the trace below). So I think that the code auth_socket = getenv("AUTH_SOCKET_PATH"); if (auth_socket == NULL) auth_socket = DEFAULT_AUTH_SOCKET_PATH; ret = auth_client_put_user_env(ioloop, auth_socket, destination, process_euid); if (ret != 0) return ret; home = getenv("HOME"); if (home != NULL) { /* If possible chdir to home directory so core file could be written. If it fails, don't worry. */ (void)chdir(home); is the key. Should the chdir be done *before* the call to auth_client_put_user_env()? I'm not familiar with the internal workings of the Dovecot LDA, so I won't suggest a proper fix. Who will. As for the mal-formed headers, I'll take a look at it later. [Dovecot] INBOX un-subscribable (is that a word?)
by Jim Horner 02 Nov '06

02 Nov '06

I am trying to get open-xchange installed and working (which after two days might be futile). In doing this I noticed that no email client can subscribe to INBOX. I'm using rc10 and my namespaces are the following. 99% of the email clients ignore the inability to subscribe to INBOX and display all the folders underneath anyway which is why I've never noticed this issue... however, open-xchange is not in that camp and only displays messages in INBOX. All folders are in the subscriptions file including INBOX but all email clients always list INBOX as not subscribed to. COMPANY are ROOTMAIL are share folders with ACLs in /etc/dovecot/acl and those top folders are not subscribable either. namespace public { separator = . prefix = COMPANY. location = maildir:/home/services/mail/arinbe.com/arinbe/Maildir:CONTROL=%h/shared-set… hidden = no inbox = no } namespace public { separator = . prefix = ROOTMAIL. location = maildir:/home/services/mail/arinbe.com/rootmail/Maildir:CONTROL=%h/shared-s… hidden = no inbox = no } # default namespace namespace private { separator = . inbox = yes hidden = no prefix = INBOX. }
