[Dovecot] .INBOX required?

Hi, Newbie to Dovecot and IMAP in general. The system in question is RH 9, Dovecot 0.99.11, Maildir, accessing mail with SquirrelMail, Thunderbird, Kmail, Mutt, Entourage and Mail.app. I've set up the maildir for users in ~/Maildir. Inside that I have other folders, .Sent, .Drafts, .Trash, .Junk, .MakeJunk, .MakeGood. ~/Maildir itself has the cur, new, and tmp folders, but I note that there is also an .INBOX folder. Mail to the account does end up in ~/Maildir/new and it's readable in the various MUA's (as Inbox). I'm just not certain why the .INBOX is there, and if I'm supposed to be creating the other folders as .INBOX.otherfolder. Thanks, Todd

Hello, this patch adds initial response support for NTLM and RPA authentication mechanism. It can be useful if dovecot acts as authentication backend for SMTP server. RFC2554 permits initial response in AUTH command, so it's legal to send NTLM type 1 message or RPA token 1 in it. Please consider applying. I have no idea what that user is doing, but I can harrass him and find out if need be. I'm using 1.0-test52 on OpenBSD/macppc. -- There are three ways to get something done: (1) Do it yourself. (2) Hire someone to do it for you. (3) Forbid your kids to do it.

Is this possibly a problem with dovecot 0.99.10.9? Maybe it's been fixed in a later release? Might it be a security issue? Thanks!

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone's seen anything like this? The client is Thunderbird. This only appears to be happening when viewing certain mail folders in the IMAP account. As a temporary fix, it seems to stop happening when I delete the ".imap*" files in the affected folder, but this is hardly an ideal solution. If you want any debug-type information please send me "idiots guide" type instructions as to how to do it - I'm not a software engineer :? Okay see if you can see what I am doing wrong? Pretty simple bug, fixed finally. For 0.99.x: http://dovecot.org/patches/sql-ldap-auth-leak.diff Next 1.0-test release (or next nightly snapshot) fixes it for 1.0-tests.

[Dovecot] noob - Outlook Duplicate Problem Question

Hi, I use dovecot 0.99-11 with sendmail latest, and clamav-milter, and spamass-milter. Whole setup works great. We only use dovecot for pop3, no imap. We use primarily Outlook 2000-2003 for a client. I have a couple of users who prefer to leave a copy of each message on the server. I read the archives about the Outlook Duplicate Message problem regarding the setting 'Leave a copy on the Server'. I read that someone fixed this by changing the order of the UIDL from datestamp.message# to message#.datestamp. My question is if I make that change in my source for 0.99-11, will the 1.0 version have a fix for this included, or should I look for another pop3 server? I'd like to continue to use dovecot as it is very light and fast, but I'm trying to eliminate using source compiled binaries on my production servers, and letting YUM do my updates for me. I can compile this version from source, using the fix that was mentioned in the September Archives for this list, if I know that the problem (which is an MS problem, go figure) will be gone in future RPM binary packages. http://dovecot.org/test/ I have very high hopes that mbox support is finally stable in this version. I've been running some stress tests for an hour now without it breaking (well, there are two potential problems but I think they were just fixing previous breakages). Before it took only a few minutes at most to break. - fixes several mbox syncing problems, especially expunges potentially deleted parts of wrong messages - maildir: readdir() race conditions are fixed by keeping dovecot-uidlist lock a bit more than before (it really doesn't matter in most cases, we did this before as well but slightly less often. so this really fixes just the problematic cases without giving hardly any more overhead than there was before) - index header changed a bit. will rebuild indexes and print some cache indexid errors.. i should hide these errors too.. - fixed memory leaks in dovecot-auth

[Dovecot] dovecot and outlook express and large messages

Hi I have been using Dovecot 0.99.11 and 1.0-test52 on a server with about 2000 accounts. All has been working good until a few days ago. Now I'm stuck and can't work out whats going on. The problem seems to be only with Outlook/outlook express clients. If the mail is large with an attachment its fails. After you hit the send and receive button after a while Outlook express gives the error "Your POP3 server has not responded in 60 seconds". Network activity seem to be minimal between the client and the server. There is no log entry out of the ordinary to say what went wrong. I have tried out a number of changes to the dovecot.conf file, none make any difference. Thanks for any help. Regards Daniel Rowe
