When I run this: /usr/local/sbin/dovecot -c /etc/dovecot.conf I get this Fatal: Can't use SSL certificate /etc/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem: No such file or directory But in my conf file these are commented out?? #ssl_cert_file = /usr/share/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem #ssl_key_file = /usr/share/ssl/private/dovecot.pem Why would I get this error? [Dovecot] pop3d keeps downloading messages over and over again

Solaris 9 SunOS 5.9 Generic_117171-11 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-250 gcc version 3.3.2 dovecot-0.99.11 compile options: LDFLAGS=-L/usr/local/ssl/lib CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/local/ssl/include/openssl ./configure --prefix=/opt/dovecot --disable-ipv6 --with-file-offset-size=32 --with-mem-align=4 --with-rawlog --with-ssl=openssl OK, this applies whether or not a user account is set to leave mail on the server or not. There are several things that might happen, depending on who knows what: 1. Mail pops fine. 2. The "DO NOT DELETE THIS EMAIL" keeps downloading over and over again. 3. All emails since the switch to this new test dovecot pop3d will be downloaded over and over again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Gordon Thagard

[Dovecot] duplicate woes

Hi, I have FC2/Sendmail/Dovecot default setup. I turned on POP3 and POP3S in /etc/dovecot.conf. I started out getting duplicates only when I was using Outlook w/ 'Leave copy on server' option. Lately, I've been getting duplicates at seemingly random messages sent to and from seemingly random users. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff Ramsey Tubafor Mill, Inc.

[Dovecot] Popping without home directories

Hello there I tend to e-mail user accounts to my servers with /sbin/nologin and /dev/null as their shell and home directories respectively. I have discovered that Dovcot does not like it when a user does not have a home directory. Obviosly the user POP3 and not IMAP! :P Is there a work around for this? I have a suspicion it is one of the chroot option, but I do not know the meaning chroot. Thanks Andre

[Dovecot] Possible Bug

Okay in dovecot.conf I set the fallowing settings log_path = /var/log/dovecot info_log_path = /var/log/dovecot Then I setup log rotation for that file (using logrotate). But after it does the rotation. Dovecot dies. Now I know why this happens. But should it ? To over come this I now have it set to stop dovecot and start dovecot after it's done dealing with the log file. -- Chris L. Franklin --

I am in mbox configuration, and I am getting INBOX listed 3 times. I suppose the first is /var/mail/login and the others are $HOME/Mail but they appear twice. [Dovecot] [PATCH] NTLM update and crashfix

Hello, attached patch allows LM authentication for older (Win9x) clients which do not pass NTLM response in type 3 message. It also fixes crash in dovecot-auth (empty credentials could be passed to hex_to_binary function if NTLM2 was negotiated). Please consider applying. [Dovecot] noob - integrating dovecot with postfix

Hi list, Just jumped providers and am now desperately trying to get IMAP running on a new server... But not getting the link between postfix and dovecot working. :-( My two problems are: 1) local mail seems to get into the ~/Maildirs, but not from the outside (this is a postfix issue?) 2) I cannot find information on how to tell postfix to use virtual domains/addresses and then connect dovecot to them (as they are now in non-standard locations and/or formats) I'm sure this is a FAQ, but cannot find an example that would walk me though this. Can someone kindly point me in the right direction? -- Mitch

[Dovecot] Excessive imap-login and pop3-login processes

I'm running a Linux mail server with Postfix and Dovecot. I've noticed that the number of "imap-login" processes usually sits around 240, and "pop3-login" usually around 50 or so. The comments in the config file seem to indicate that, with my setup, I shouldn't see more than about 10 of each. Am I misunderstanding the config or is this expected behavior? login_process_per_connection = no login_processes_count = 10 login_max_processes_count = 128 login_max_logging_users = 256 The mail server receives about 1.5 - 3 logins per second and usually has around 75 simultaneous IMAP sessions. [Dovecot] dovecot 1.0-test52 build notes

I thought I would try to use 'configure' to lay out the dovecot install a little differently than the default. I prefer all the support files under one tree (e.g. in /usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0) rather than distributed around the filesystem. And I'd be happiest if all of the support files were just at that top level rather than in subdirectories. e.g.: /usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0/dovecot.conf /usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0/imap-login /usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0/dovecot-auth etc. (I'm happy to have a "doc" subdirectory though.) And ideally I'd have the primary executable installed in a more generic place, but tagged with its version number, like /usr/local/sbin/dovecot-1.0 Note that I'm not suggesting this, just explaining what I am after. So the second to last thing I tried was: --program-suffix=-1.0 \ --bindir=/usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0 \ --sbindir=/usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0 \ --libexecdir=/usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0 \ --sysconfdir=/usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0 \ --datadir=/usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0 \ --localstatedir=/usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0 \ But that didn't really work, for the reasons listed in the "last" try below, plus all of the executables got the "-1.0" suffix, not just the "dovecot" program (not a big surprise..). And the last thing I tried: --bindir=/usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0 \ --sbindir=/usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0 \ --libexecdir=/usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0 \ --sysconfdir=/usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0 \ --datadir=/usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0 \ --localstatedir=/usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0 \ which kinda got me where I wanted, except that if I want a dovecot-1.0 executable in /usr/local/sbin I need to add that by hand, and also that the build process added another subdirectory "dovecot": /usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0/dovecot/ I can (and did) manually remove that final directory and flatten out the tree, and fortunately you've made it possible to specify in dovecot.conf the paths to all the executables and so forth. But it would be nice to be able to create this desired layout entirely via configure and not have to move things around after the fact. Is that even possible? Obviously, don't spend a lot of time on it.. but if I'm missing an option that would get me where I want, I'd be interested in knowing about it. Oh, and "strings src/master/dovecot | grep /usr/local" gives this: /usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0/dovecot.conf /usr/local/lib/dovecot/imap /usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0/dovecot/imap /usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0/run/dovecot /usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0/dovecot/dovecot-auth /usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0/dovecot/imap-login /usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0/dovecot/pop3-login /usr/local/lib/dovecot-1.0/dovecot/pop3 /usr/local/lib/dovecot/pop3 So it looks like there are a couple of places where the configured paths aren't caught (or so it would seem).
